In town for our 20th wedding anniversary and decided to give Earls a try. So glad we did. The food and the atmosphere were great. However, what truly made the evening extraordinary was the service. Our waitress, Jennifer, was spectacular. She took the time to walk us through the menu, made excellent recommendations, and just showed an interest in making sure our dinner was perfect. And for an extra, she provided us with a wonderful dessert on the house. Also want to make a special mention to one of the managers, Mimi. Mimi greeted us as we sat down and brought us complimentary champagne to celebrate our anniversary. She was so professional and just an overall kind soul. It is evident that she loves her job and goes out of her way to ensure all of Earls customers receive excellent service. I used to only go here to meet friends at the bar but we were in the area and we stopped by here after an appointment and it was truly worth while. It was over a month ago but I still want to review as it was a wholesome experience, every staff member that stopped by the table was full of energy and extremely nice to us and my kids. We made a reservation for Sunday brunch and were seated as soon as we arrived. Place was super busy and most tables appeared to be booked. There were many conversations happening so it was a somewhat loud and energetic vibe. Our server appeared to be in a rush to take our order but gave us a few minutes to read through the menu before placing our order. I went with steak and eggs and both my friends went with chicken and waffles. They were satisfied with their meal. My steak was cooked medium as requested but my food arrived cold. Monday night football was on and the patrons were not a raucous sports crowd but it was still lively and a good place to take in a game. Came in today with my two kids. This is not a kid friendly restaurant. The host looked at them with disdain and seemed to begrudgingly set up the high chair, which took a while. Then we were seated and the waitress took her sweet time coming over. Took even longer to bring water. I ordered quickly because I knew at this rate the kids wouldn't last, they are 1 and 3. I had to ask the bartender to tell her to wrap the food to go and bring me the check. When she came over she had a stone cold look and attitude on her face as if she was better than me. I apologized that we had to leave but told her the kids wouldn't last. Still cold attitude. Didn't even say bye to us when we saw her on the way out. They need to find better staff. I feel like Earl's is just "fine". It's not bad, but it's not great. The location is pretty good and it has a decent enough variety so that anyone in your party can find something they want. On my most recent visit, I was surprised by the price of my cocktail! I got a gin martini and it was over $20 - almost as much as my entree. I expect that at a steakhouse or other high-end restaurant, but Earl's is not high-end. I got the same drink across the way at Tony C's for much lower price (and it was just as good). It also seems like they got rid of the spicy tuna roll. Why serve sushi, but get ride of the most popular kind of roll?? Ordered the calamari, avocado dip, bacon burger with truffle fries, and truffle tortellini with steak. -Calamari was very light and tasty but the portion was so small it was not worth the money. -Avocado dip was okay, the corn gave it flavor but the avocado itself needed more spices. -Bacon burger and truffle fries were great. They didn't ask how I wanted the burger cooked and it came out a little too cooked for my liking but tasted good. -Again they didn't ask how I wanted the steak cooked either and it didn't have enough pink but was flavorful. My biggest bother was that the broccoli stems in the dish weren't cooked enough so they were very hard and messed with the texture of the dish. They have huge TVs surrounding the bar area but they were all playing the same channel which was airing an old NFL game instead of the current Celtics or NFL game that were actually playing that day; should definitely be more aware of daily sports games (especially Boston sports) if you're going to have those huge TVs. read more

I had a passion fruit martini that tasted like just juice and their sesame noodle was so bland. The miso salmon tho was delicious. The next batch served was like warm but we ate it. BUT after returning home and looking closely at bill, Earle's tacked on a Service charge of $12.20 AND Administrative Fee of 3% total bill AND the server still asked for tip. All this was done electronically and only offer a hard copy of bill if ask. Otherwise you go home like us with hard copy of bill and find out this AND one of eggs Benedict was charged $15 and the other $18.75. Pretty devious to say the least. Earl's reminds me of a less good version of Hillstone, a fancy-ish chain where you can get dressed up if you want and sit in comfy booths and eat slightly elevated dishes of old classics. But whereas Hillstone had some mean drinks, the Bloody Mary I had at Earl's was one of the worst I've ever had. I'm not much for alcohol but when I do drink, I tend to always go for a Bloody Mary and this one let me down hard. We came here during a busy brunch so that could explain the drink situation. Right when the drink hit the table, I saw the problem - it was a very light shade of red. Almost pink. Barely any drink mix to speak of. No spice or pepper at all, the vaguest flavor of tomato. It was like drinking water with a slight hint of tomato. Not sure if they ran out of whatever mix they used but had I not been in a hurry, I would have sent the drink back. It was an absolute waste of $15. Everything else ranged from fine to pretty good. My Southwest chicken avocado salad was delicious, with chopped bits of dates added to it that really boosted the flavor, though the garlic/onion in the dressing lingered in my mouth for the rest of the day. Also loved the crispy potato squares that came on the side of my husband's burger, something I haven't seen other places do. On the whole, I think this place is fine for Assembly Row but every time I see a menu that has burgers AND sushi AND tacos on it and charges upscale dining-prices, I'm apprehensive as to just how good it can be. read more

I hadn't been to Earl's since pre-lockdown. Girls night out at nearby Encore brought me here for a second time. It has the same energetic vibe I remember and it remains hugely popular. Our server was super friendly and attentive for the most part. I think one of the best things here are the cocktails. Even the mocktails are delicious (try the Italian Spritz). The white sangria looked great, as did a friend's Woodford Old Fashioned. The quality of food is great, albeit portions are a bit scant for the prices. We started with the Street Corn & Guac w/ chips app. All delicious but really a portion for one, IMHO, so if you're there with a group, the check is going to start increasing. Chips were the perfect thickness and the corn dip was delicious. Servers, PLEASE remember the serving utensils with shared dishes and dipping sauces! Post-Covid (or RSV) dining means we don't want to share everyone's saliva no matter if friends or family! I had the bacon cheddar burger (cooked perfectly medium) with fries. Friends had the Bangkok Bowl and Tacos. All looked tasty and everyone was happy with their choices. We skipped dessert (although I had "room" for it). Assembly Row was busy and parking is somewhat of a challenge unless you don't mind walking a bit, so be mindful if your party includes the older folks. Today is May 9. We had lunch today at Earls for Mother's Day--too many conflicts with an actual Sunday lunch. Our server was a delightful young woman named Sarah, who welcomed us the minute we walked in. At that point it was just my husband and me. She immediately got to the business of setting up our table--4 adults and 2 squirrely young boys--and no nonsense about needing to wait for the rest of the party. We were seated in short order and eventually the rest of the family showed up. The food was varied and delicious--tacos, chicken and waffles, strawberry pancakes, plain buttered pasta for the 7 year old and a filet mignon for the 10 year old. Sarah seemed to appear exactly when we needed her. More coffee, more ketchup, more water was delivered quickly. Everyone was happy with their food choices.
