This review is purely for the happy hour menu for the assembly row, Somerville location. Happy hour is 4-6 sun-fri. Bar was pretty empty when around 4. Rob (bar tender) was there and greeted me with menu and helped highlight which items on menu were happy hour prices. Very helpful and friendly. Bar area was clean and well organized, each seat already has utensil setups. 4/5 seared ahi tuna was delicious. Great presentation. Tastes fresh and seared just right to bring out vary flavors. The sauce balances well and tastes great. A squeeze of lemon helps to balance out the flavor. 5/5 spicy shrimp is amazing. Came out fresh fried and i just love the minimal breading that gives it a good crunch but still has a good amount of exposed shrimp for meaty flavor. Shrimp is butterflied well and well presented as well. The sauce gives small kick. Will get this again. 4/5 gambler's old fashioned is excellent. Prepared well and tastes on point. One good plus is they offered bread and butter which I appreciated. Bread is crispy outside and warm soft inside. Whipped butter on side, I usually don't write about bread service but damn, this was good bread and butter and I actually finished it all. We grabbed dinner here after an intense day of packing and we had an exceptional meal. We both did the Ruth's three course meal. The filet was a superb cut and seasoned perfectly lobster tail was expertly cooked, and the drinks were incredible. All that is the cherry on top of absolutely immaculate service. The reviews just don't do this place justice. Definitely recommend their Brown Butter Old Fashioned for cocktails and the filets were cooked to PERFECTION. Our server, Kendall, was fantastic and the GM, Srdjan, also checked on us which was so nice. We've tried a lot of steaks in the area and 10/10 recommend this place. My boyfriend and I visited Ruth's Chris for the first time this Valentine's Day and to be honest, I was really surprised by how underwhelming this steakhouse is. We've been to the Capital Grille dozens of times and expected it to be on par, but boy were we surprised. I'd say the only thing slightly comparable was the food, but even that missed the mark :( I had a filet that was delicious, but it was literally in a puddle of butter, and the lobster tail I'd ordered (a completely separate item from the filet) was placed on the same plate, so my $22 lobster tail tasted just like my steak. My boyfriend felt his steak was ok, but not anything memorable. The mashed potatoes were also very greasy and had a rim of oil around the side of the bowl. My espresso martini was a 3/5. My main gripe with the evening, however, was the manager who came by our table. Every time we've visited a steakhouse, there is a manager who quickly pops by to check on the table and make sure your dinner is going smoothly. This manager did not do that. The first thing he mentioned when he came by was that the single rose each lady received was from him (as he'd ordered them for the restaurant), which I found odd. Then he asked me what I'd received for my Valentine's Day gifts, and when I told him, he looked between my boyfriend and I and said "is that it?" I was mortified. He went on a spiel about winning $46k at a casino and hiding it from his wife, and then promoted a jewelry store down the street. By the end of the conversation, my boyfriend and I were just so put off and confused by the experience. It felt unprofessional and it was strange enough for me to question if he was maybe inebriated? I ordered my steak cooked " medium " and got " rare " ( more like RAW ). Someone needs to show the menu to the cooks and have them study it . More specifically the " USDA Prime Steaks " section where it tells what to expect your steak to look like when you cut into it . ( see attached pictures ) . Our server kept coming by the table asking if everything was ok , I think he could tell I wasn't happy with it but for some reason he wouldn't mention it . I will not send anything back in any restaurant for fear of angering the cooks and having them clean the floor or blowing their nose on it ( or worse ). Ruth's Chris Dinner Review Overall, we had a very good dinner at Ruth's Chris, with one noticeable service miss. My wife had a beautifully presented shrimp cocktail, and she really enjoyed her spicy strawberry margarita. I had a blueberry mojito, which was excellent. For dinner, we shared a Tomahawk Ribeye cooked Rare+, and it was wonderfully prepared. The steak was flavorful, cooked exactly as requested, and paired perfectly with the delicious garlic mashed potatoes. The only disappointment was that I ordered the calamari appetizer, but it never arrived. That was frustrating, especially because I had been looking forward to it...wanted to compare against Ocean Prime. To their credit, the restaurant handled it professionally and comped our first round of drinks because of the missed appetizer. Despite that service issue, the quality of the food and drinks was strong, and the evening was still enjoyable. We had a great date-night dinner Friday evening. Over the years I've eaten at this location a few times a year and this was the best experience from a food and service perspective, management seems to be stepping up their game. Jio was our server and he was friendly and timed our courses so that we could enjoy our meal and each other without being interrupted unnecessarily. There's plenty of comfortable seating and the atmosphere works well for everything from date night to group dinners. The service was fantastic, super attentive and friendly from start to finish. We ordered the lobster mac and cheese, tomahawk steak, Brussels sprouts with bacon, and a lobster tail. Everything was cooked really well and full of flavor, the steak was perfectly done, the lobster tender, and the mac rich and creamy. The only real downside was how oily everything felt. The Brussels sprouts were drenched, the butter on the lobster was a bit too much, and even the tomahawk had more oil than I'd prefer. It got to the point where it was a little overwhelming and I didn't feel like finishing, which was a shame considering how good the food was otherwise. To the future patrons beware the great Ruth Chris has truly fallen from grace. The steaks are tough and fatty to the over priced boxed deserts there is nothing special about the dishes here. I expect more for a $400 meal they dress it up nicely with good ambiance mood lighting but the service seems rushed and non responsive. As I myself have worked in the restaurant industry this is truly disappointing for a Saturday evening service. I will be spending my time and money elsewhere. read more

Our experience with a party of seven was extremely disappointing from start to finish. Service was inattentive and uncoordinated throughout the evening. It took approximately 30 minutes for our initial drink order to be acknowledged, followed by another 30 minutes before bread and beverages were delivered. We then waited 45 minutes just to have our order taken, and an additional 45 minutes for the food to arrive. When the meals finally came, some items were overcooked and not prepared as ordered. Despite the long delay, staff attempted to clear the table almost immediately after serving the food, which felt rushed and inappropriate. To make matters worse, we were nearly presented with the bill before completing the prix fixe menu, without being offered dessert. Given the $658.00 total bill, this level of service and execution was unacceptable. We repeatedly had to rely on other staff members just to locate our server or receive assistance. Celebrated a birthday with a large party and everyone was happy with their food. For sides we got the mashed potatoes, asparagus, lobster mac and cheese, potatoes au gratin, and sweet potato casserole. I would order all the sides again except the sweet potato because it was sweet and felt like somewhere between a side and a dessert. They were able to accommodate the allergies in our group well. There's one side of the restaurant that is more casual, with a bar and sports playing on the TV. The other half is a standard steakhouse vibe. The drinks were exactly what we ordered and were delicious. For entrees, I ordered the cowboy ribeye, medium rare, with an al la carte style for sides. The food was fairly expensive, but WOW! I read the reviews and we must have gone on a really bad night. But a review is a review. We had a 6:30 appointment and were seated promptly. Shortly thereafter bread and water was brought to the table and then the waiter disappeared. In a bit a waiter came by and we placed an order for drinks and an appetizer. 25 minutes passed and the appetizer came out but no drinks. We mentioned this to the waiter and another 5 minutes transpired and no drinks. I went to the maître de and she got the service taken care of. Now I am a vegetarian and saw on the Somerville website that they had a number of vegetarian options. Last night it was a broccoli steak. That was it. The staff was rather non apologetic, "we are a steak house, you know". In other steak houses around the country, they always offer to make something for me and apologize for the lack of choices. Not here. Food arrived and her steak, 11 oz fillet was very good. The broccoli was barely edible. Dessert came by later and the crème brule was very good. So the food was good for her, mine was horrid. The service was some of the worst I've had in decades. Next time we will go to Capital Grill or Grill 23. read more

I dropped by this place after walking around Assembly Row. The restaurant had a nice outdoor patio underneath the arch of the Partners building. I ordered the Ruth's Classics prix fixe meal for $59. I got the caesar salad as an app, steak and shrimp as the entree, and creamed spinach as the accompanying side. The caesar salad consisted of romaine lettuce, croutons, shaved parmesan cheese and caesar dressing. It was spot on and delicious. As always, the medium rare steak never disappoints. The 6 ounce filet was warm and buttery on a sizzling plate. The creamed spinach was great as well. For dessert, I got the bread pudding with raisins, whisky sauce and fresh strawberries. First a detail that I thought was so nice is when we told them what we were celebrating they put gold star confetti on the table, it was a nice touch and it gave my instagram photos that little extra touch lol. The steak was perfectly seared on the outside and cooked to medium rare on the inside. It was well seasoned as well. I'm salivating just thinking about it! I would like to commend the friendly service provided by the manager Keith and staff, However, I wanted to bring a slight shortfall in attentiveness from our waitress during the dinner, which was particularly notable as we were celebrating a special birthday at the table. While we did enjoy the overall meal, the lapses in attentiveness from her did create a somewhat lackluster atmosphere for our celebration. Such as not asking if we wanted any drinks at the start, disappearing for almost 30 minutes and not checking in if the meal was okay, the other wait staff were hovering over us when we weren't even done with our dinner to clear the plates, which made us feel like we had to hurry and finish our plates. Not to mention, we weren't offered any dessert from the waitress when she finally showed back up 30 minutes later, even though it was included with two of our parties meals. My fiancée and I sat at the bar and enjoyed their delicious lobster mac and cheese/goat cheese and artichoke dip/lobster bisque and wedge salad. Alex made amazing martinis with attentive service and a wonderful personality. All of the bartenders worked together to be sure everyone was attended to. I like how the tables and chairs are set up ambience: five stars. I told my waiter, Mike, that I want to go to every Ruth's Chris in the world, and that they were number 39 and the manager Nico offered me a free appetizer, but besides that he went above and beyond because my man wanted to try the Armagnac. am very upset as to what happened today at the Ruth's Chris on revolution Avenue Assembly Square, Somerville, MA. I have been to Ruth Chris before occasionally I go to high-end steak restaurants as I have been to your steak restaurant and appreciate the great service the quality food and the ambience not to mention respectful patrons that used to go to high-end restaurants. Tonight was quite different. I was in the assembly Square mall and chose to go to Ruth's Chris based on my previous experiences. I went to the bar for a drink as I was meeting somebody in an hour and a half, and we were going to eat dinner later at the bar. There were three individuals, and they were listening to their phone on speakerphone. They had no consideration for anybody else and they were playing their their phone call on speakerphone at the bar for everybody to hear. I asked them to turn it down. They seemed to be annoyed that who is this person ask them to turn down their music or their their phone and after a couple minutes, they finally obliged. They were vaping too and management looked the other way. I told management about it and they didn't speak to the patrons . I paid my bar tab and left and will not attend Ruth Chris again as I expected a good experience and I am shocked the Darden companies hire staff of people that think it is cool to allow their friends to act as if they are in their own home. The service was wonderful. Currently they do have a seating policy of 90min. I don't ever remember going to a steak house that I'll be out the door at 90min, but with the pandemic we do what we must right? Overall, the food was delicious and actually pretty quick. The steak was cooked to perfection how I like it. If you like your steak buttery and salty this is the place if not then well skip the steak and go with the crab cakes because they are loaded with crab meat and no fillers. read more

We had a ceasar salad and a wedge salad. Wedge was very good. The Ceasar was drowned in dressing, which was unfortunate. We both ordered the 11 oz. filet $57 each with au gratin potato for an additional $13. We ordered them cooked medium. One was cooked medium, the other was well done. They were not seasoned in any way or if they were very minimally. The augratin potatoes would have been better without the thick layer of cheese on the top. If that was removed, the cheese sauce they potatoes were in would have been better. The service was excellent. Overall, for the money there are other places you could spend your money and have a better and more flavorful meal. read more

I hosted a luncheon here this Saturday for 29 vaccinated guests for a small celebration. From my initial email, Kandis, the private event coordinator was responsive, friendly and helpful. The day of the event everyone was so pleasant and efficient. We were also so appreciative that the servers were masks, it helped put us at ease. Upon walking in the door I walked upon 2 maitre-d arguing in the reception area while a manager stood there and did not diffuse it. Our waitress was poor. Took 12 min to offer us bread. Drinks were served not at same time. Our appetizers were Cesar salad which was excellent and a lobster bisque which was horrible. Sherry was not burned off and was like warm with no lobster in it as the description said so. Worst part is they bring it out in this massive bowl and there is nothing in it. Maybe a 1/4 cup worth of soup . The steaks were decent. A filet that was butterflied thinner and cowboy rib eye. Both were over cooked. Sides were mashed potatoes and sweet potato. This is my first worst worst experience to reserve a birthday party at this restaurant in Somerville. The host told me if I would like to a private room they will past my information to the event coordinator in order to reserve the private area. We thought if we don't move forward with the room and they will put us in the dining area. But 2 days after i called them, they said they don't have anything for us because our reservation never made and that's our fault bc we don't have a private room anymore. They said the room can fit up to 20 ppl and there is min charge of 1500 plus taxes, tips and some fees not sure what it is. I remembered i told them our parties are only 12-14ppl, how can we spend 1500. I called the restaurant they said nothing do with the host since my reservation never made. Nothing they can do so they don't want to deal with this problem anymore. To be honest, I strongly recommend anyone don't ever try to go to this restaurant or reserve for the private party unless you make sure you will spend close 2000, other than that, do not consider it, just in case you will have this bad experience like me. I took my father and my girlfriend for Fathers Day to this location; it also happened to be my father's birthday as well. Additionally they sat us in the bar area and not the dining area - keep in mind we were over-dressed (ie suit, collared shirt, basically bizz casual) Ill list the issues in the order of appearance: 1) Asked for drink order 25+ min into being seated (keep in mind we arrived early for our reservation AND they were at 30% or less capacity- they had more than enough servers to accommodate 90-100%) 2. Ordered apps after the drinks came to the table; crab cakes and my father a chop salad * crab cakes brought in timely manner; no flavor completely dry no remoulade, lemon - nothing * Forgot my fathers salad - which was asked by the replacement server to come out with the crab cakes; confirmed twice *** They literally took an hour to finally bring out the salad - this after lying multiple times that it was 'just about ready' or being 'finished and right out' bullsh*t ****When the salad came out - it was the WRONG salad hahahaha you cant make this up- then they go back take another chunk of time correcting the mistake 3. The steaks were waaayyyy overcooked; girlfriend got hers medium (filet) and it was BUTTERFLIED and cooked medium/well, mine - a t-bone cooked medium/well- asked for it to be simply medium, fathers steak (filet) cooked correctly 4. Sides were overcooked and clearly were made in advance in some sort of conveyor/cafeteria style; potato au gratin and creamed spinach; the baked potato was cooked correctly 5. Dessert - Im told was ok; I did not get anything I was absolutely bullsh*t at that point and just wanted to gtfo of there having not believing how long it was taking and how BAD Ruths Chris ABSOLUTELY RUINED my fathers bday and Fathers Day*** ice cream apparently had frozen crystals - meaning it was old and over frozen The ABSOLUTE worst part is that the couple in front of us were seated way after us, got a similar meal, paid and were out the door before us- the couple and their kid(s) also seated after us and were attended to and got out of there before us --- WTF! Reservation was at 3pm, we arrived early, they seated us (because they were super under capacity) and as stated seated in the bar-area (ummm why not the dining area?) we did not leave with all the above in mind and after waiting AGAIN to pay the bill until just before 6pm- I mean I love my dad, but 3hrs??? Bill was for $349 - yes I left a 20% tip like an ass^ole because the 5th server that served us was absolutely a star - she was phenomenal, welcoming and hopefully took all the tip and gave nothing to the others. Never again - Ruths Chris: see-ya bye. Humble brag or not I spend a good portion of disposable income in restaurants and I will not EVER GO HERE OR ANY RUTHS CHRIS AGAIN. read more
