I looked on Google for hotels, but all the listings (commercial ads) were $90+ so I pulled into a place that the place with the sign that said, "Historic Hotel, Low Rates, Free Wifi". The office staffer, Connie, was amazingly nice. She gave me a "National Park Pass" discount of $10 so my room was under $70. Price is nice, but the room was truly "historic" AND very clean. Queen bed with lots of room to walk around it and a large bathroom. Plus the Wifi was lightening fast. I download all my photos from the Grand Canyon without so much as a slow down. I'd like to come stay here as a weekend destination get away; too bad its 1400 miles from my home.

I stayed here in August 2019, which judging by past reviews, was shortly after the change in ownership. Check-in was alright and I was directed to a room in the front of the property. When I pulled up to my room, a staff member doing work on the came up to me and asked for my room key so he could turn on the AC and make sure the room was ready...okay. This might just be my New York paranoia talking, but I gave the room a thorough inspection when I got inside. The room was a 50s motel room, which was about what I expected. Furniture was dated, but it was clean. The internet password was not posted prominently and required me to read the fine print in the guide. Most hotels post the wifi password prominently and don't expect you to spend 15 minutes looking all over the room for it. Once I got that settled, the room was generally quiet and comfortable. The next morning, renovation work was going on pretty early in the morning. Thankfully, I wanted an early start anyway, so I wasn't bothered. This property worked for the night, but I'm not sure I'd return. Independent motels are always a gamble and, unfortunately, this one didn't live up to the past reviews.

If you need a place just to lay down and lay your head, no frills, and on a budget, I would 100% recommend this place!! I was on a road trip to hike at Mesa Verde before I made a trip to Moab and Arches. The room was clean, the bed I was in had a brand new mattress and it has a nic retro 1980's old school charm. Most importanly, the room was queit and I was able to do some work. Joy was great and responsive. She even called me to invite me for a fresh pot of coffee. This motel has been in Brian's family for years. Today, Joy and Brian manage the property and are curently in the process of making renovations and upgrades. The Wi-Fi can be slightly spotty and I hope this is one area they can invest in. If you are arriving late in your travels, Joy will work with you and make sure you are taken care of. Joy and Brian really do care about your well being.

I was so baffled that their rating was over 4 stars because it was terrible. 1- on each sheet, blanket, and towel there were human and dog hair; I thought maybe it was a one-off when I saw it, but I just kept finding them! 2- the fridge in the room didn't work, and when I opened it smelled absolutely rotten. 3- the shower didn't appear as thought it had been cleaned well, because there was still blue shower gel on the bottom. 4- we were going to be getting into town later than we expected, so I messaged the host; 4 hours later I had not received a response, although it says 1 hr response time. I decided to call, because absolutely no late check-in (or any, for that matter) instructions were provided; some other reviews said that they had arrived after 10 and that the host would not answer their phone and they lost their money. 5- the address provided on AirBnB is incorrect; this might not be so bad in the daylight because there is a sign, but at night it doesn't light up and it is easy to miss. We drove around and around trying to find it. Overall, I would never stay here again and hope you will consider all these things before booking.

We opted for the deluxe view room since it was only like $10 more a night, and we were super glad we did!! The views were truly stunning. Our bed was comfy. They don't have TVs in the room and the wifi was tough to connect too and pretty spotty once you were connected. You're very immersed in nature!! They have a restaurant onsite and a lounge/bar area as well. They have a game room but people were using the space to work, so we opted to play at this darling picnic table we found outside. There was a horse that was wondering around the property. I would stay here again if I was going to the park, but I wouldn't plan on spending much time in the room.

Held our breath while opening the door to the room, but room 17 was clean and well equipped with 3 double beds for our family of 5. Cable TV worked well, internet took a few minutes to connect but worked fine, and showers were hot. Other patrons were quiet and caused no disturbances. Only issue was the tub drain that did not drain, but after borrowing a plunger and attempting to gain flow, the manager gave me the room key to the room next door so we could continue our shower process. Problem solved! It is family- run establishment, which I like to support- and although dated, it was clean, convenient, and at $147, more affordable than other options in Cortez. **Family-Owned, Clean Pet-Friendly Motel That Checks All the Boxes**…read more The White Eagle Inn was a very nice stop to recharge on our way to New Mexico. Being a family-owned hotel with just three owners in 60 years, it was satisfying to support a local business run by two charismatic and enthusiastic owners that deeply care about their property rather than another hotel chain run by the "Big Six" (IHG, Choice, Wyndham, Hyatt, Marriott, Hilton). We arrived late at night, but the owners were so kind to arrange a late check-in process. Check-in time is from 3-9 so they were generous to accommodate us. The late check in was convenient and socially distant. The owner Kellie even sent ice to our freezer! Nice touch. -Location: The hotel is located right off the highway through Cortez, though a little removed from the city center. -The Hotel: White Eagle has a homey, down-to-earth yet earnest feel. It is a lovely throwback! There are 16 rooms and a nice picnic area with grill. There are 2 areas for the furbabies. Pet friendly but you absolutely need to declare your animals. Rooms are a single level motel format with quaint front desk area. -The Room: We had the triple room 17 which was very comfortable with three double beds. It is located at the end of the motel and has two chairs and a table in front. The room was clean and had retro wood paneling and traditional lamp shades. The bathroom was properly sealed and very clean. There is a table and chairs for eating as well as desk with chair. The beds are a bit springy but nice. It was so nice to have three beds for three travelers. Light fixture above window may need some dusting (mostly negligible but just wanted to point it out). Room blackouts out with ease for easy sleep. The bathroom had tile floors and the shower was very quiet. The water pressure is lower, but this is the desert! Perfectly understandable. However, the hot and cold faucet knobs took more adjusting to get the right temperature (bounced between very hot and very cold fast). They did not skimp, with tons of towels, washcloths, toilet paper, and shampoos/soap (came in individual packages) in the room which was so welcome! A/C ran consistently and the room stayed cool in the Colorado heat. Two important notes are that check out is at 10 AM and that there is no breakfast (though there is tea and coffee). Better get your early bird game on and get the worms! Check out is seamless, just put the key in a drop-off at the lobby door. The owner Mark personally sent us goodbye and gave us some great recommendations for the area.
