We stayed at the Lodge while we visited Mesa Verde. If you eat at the Lodge DEFINITELY eat the Honey Hot Chicken. Sooo good. Had the Prickly Pear Margarita and for dessert the Cheese Cake with Chocolate Drizzle and the Chocolate Torte. It was all top notch. Sit on the patio for the best view.

This place is well worth it if you're visiting Mesa Verde. Gorgeous views from our room, friendly staff, and you don't have to make the long drive into the park each day because you're already close to it all. Room was nice and clean. Balcony was amazing! Ate twice at the Far View Lounge and the service was truly exceptional. Food was good (even if understandably limited). We stayed two nights and also did the 700 years tour which I highly recommend.

    dusty and dirty underneath beds

We unfortunately couldn't stay here, after the long drive up the mountain we arrived and had to wait an hour for our room to be "cleaned" and ready. When we finally got into the rooms, we were disappointed to find mouse droppings, dust and hair all over the floor, hair in beds, and missing blankets in one of the room. Thankfully they refunded us for the rooms but I wouldn't recommend staying here.

Nast is the word, picture is worth thousand words! Stay in Durango have your tour guide pick you up there. We were told we had to give 72 hours to cancel our reservation. Yes, mouse droppings can carry Hantavirus, a family of viruses that can cause serious illness and death in people. The virus can also be found in rodent saliva and urine. When rodents disturb the virus, or when humans disturb it by sweeping or vacuuming, it can easily be released into the air in confined spaces. The most common way people become infected is by breathing in the virus. People can also become infected by touching their mouth or nose after handling contaminated materials, such as tools or clothing. In rare cases, a rodent's bite can also spread the virus.

Great accommodations inside the National Park. The walls were thin, but views were great. We loved the small porches off every room. We had beers and watched the sunset and then the far off thunder storms. Rooms have a rustic vibe- fairly small, but were adequate for our stay. The front desk was very helpful and also had national park maps (the visitor center was closed and the ranger station was out).

The condition of the paint on the balcony door is typical of the shoddy maintenance

The corporate managers of this hotel realize that they have no need to maintain the property...the location will always guarantee business. The buildings are old and shabby. Upon opening the front door, the screen in the large picture window blew into the room. Later, when I opened the window above the door the air out the room, I realized the whole window was just sitting loose in the frame. The room wasn't very clean. There was no toe kick under the sink, and when I retrieved my shoe from underneath there I saw a mass of crumpled tissues and dust bunnies. The outside light didn't work. The walls are thin, and the rooms are too small for two double beds and an armoire (you can't fully open the doors or drawers because they hit the bed) Their list of amenities include a "fitness center" and "library". Don't bother unless you need a laugh The positives: great views, the desk staff were attentive and friendly, the food in the Metate Room was good and reasonably priced given the location Aramark Corporation should step up their maintenance if not improve this once great property, but I doubt they will so long as the location keeps bringing customers

After a long drive through several states to arrive to the fair-weathered town of Cortez, Colorado,…read moreI was pleased to see this hotel within walking distance of so many places. It's an ideal location for those conscious of the environment to easily move around and find what you need. At first glance, I thought the fountain was inappropriate until I got closer and realized the water is meant to flow from a vase and not something that's... erm... Well something often uncovered on a Greek statue. Love love LOVE the Southwest theme! Native Americans come in to set up a pottery and jewelry table in the lobby Monday through Friday from 6 - 10 am. The breakfast also has a sizable spread just outside the lobby with a variety of coffee, tea, and juice to choose from. Also, it was nice to see Halloween decorations at the front desk, reminding me fondly of my childhood. The bathroom was spacious and came with a tub. Something I've noticed lately is that tubs only seem to come in handicap accessible rooms, and now knowing what I do, I don't wish to ever take that away from someone who needs it more. However, I'll note that the counters, closet, and door latches are all shorter with those needs in mind. The floor tiles coming in have these really awesome Native American stamps, and the lamps have similar design. The curtains are in hues of green, blue, and turquoise, and the furniture is nice. The tellie works, and the bed has no right to be so comfortable. During our first night, the lamp switched on and off by itself repeatedly, walking us up at odd hours. I know, I know, you're thinking, it's not haunted, there's a scientific explanation for this! There was. The bulb was loose, and vibrations from the floor above us kept tripping it. BUT WAIT! There's more. As I have the ability to work from my laptop, I noticed things slightly out of place. Not moved, per se, but shifted. And on Thursday, my vape lay flat on the counter, minding its own business and not hurting anything when I watched in real time as it rolled off the counter and shattered on the tile. RIP glass tank, RIP. I will say right now that it was far from the ledge and the surface was level. My vape had no reason to roll away on dangerous adventures. All I can say is if my room was haunted, 1) that's freaking awesome and 2) it's likely a playful ghost. But I really wish it hadn't targeted my poor vape. That gets expensive. Speaking of oddities of the non supernatural variety, the floor length mirror is right in front of the toilet. For the love of all things good, why is this a thing? I really don't need to watch myself do my business on the pot. That's weird. A final thing I will note regarding the building that has been echoed in many reviews is that the foundation, decor, carpeting, and dim hallway lighting is all dated. It actually didn't bother me because it gave the odd happenings a very fun appeal, and I also felt an old charm. However, this hotel probably could do with a remodel at some point. Amenities: The indoor pool and hot tub are nice. I wouldn't say the pool is large, but there was enough room for me to comfortable swim laps while my husband relaxed in the jacuzzi after being on his feet all day. Laundry room: didn't use. This hotel charges for those features, and half the equipment was out of order. Fitness Room: right next to the laundry room, and both of these amenities are in a building in the same parking lot but separate from the main building. Staff: Excellent! They were on top of our needs, providing me with extra coffee for my Kürig, switching out our towels since we have the DND sign up, and even placing trash bags on my door handle after I'd set out my bags in front of my door (I'd brought my own but this was nice). I even got to know the morning housekeeper a bit during my stay. My week consisted of a fantastic, if not slightly spooky and fun experience. I'd definitely return.

Desk, fridge, luggage rack are all there. Bathroom has multi-use products on the walls and there are plenty of hooks in there! Towels enough for three. There is a fan in the ceiling, but no switch to turn it on. Plenty of hot water and good pressure. Barn style door rolls between the closet and bathroom. Breakfast was OK. The coffee isn't good. This location does not have a breakfast fridge so some of the items (yogurt, cream cheese) were not available. Oatmeal, eggs, sausage gravy and biscuit, meat along with cold cereals, toaster items and waffles. Staff were friendly. Big hotel shop. Water bottle filling station. Guest laundry.

One Star - Outrageous Host Behavior, Unprofessional, and Discriminatory…read more I stayed at Outpost Motel on the River in July 2025. After being treated poorly and forced out of our room despite a verbal agreement to extend our stay, I emailed the property to calmly and respectfully explain the issue and offer a solution. I've included this link (https://photos.app.goo.gl/cnfiqJrszczcjswE9) to a copy of my full email so you can see exactly what I said. I was polite, reasonable, and offered the property a chance to resolve the situation. In response, I was sent one of the most hostile, abusive, and unprofessional emails I have ever seen. I've attached her response in full so you can read her exact words. She called me a "dumb fuck" and told me to "fuck off," all while claiming to run a "family joint." I'm not sure what kind of family she's referring to, but I wouldn't want mine anywhere near that environment. I am a person in recovery with nearly seven years of sobriety. Her false accusations and dehumanizing language were deeply retraumatizing, stigmatizing, and harmful--and this kind of treatment is dangerous for anyone, especially those in recovery. I've also included time-stamped photos of the room as we left it: clean, undamaged, and not remotely what she falsely described. I've reported her conduct to Booking.com and submitted all supporting documentation. This is not just a case of bad customer service. It's a case of blatant hostility, discrimination, and verbal abuse. I'm sharing this review to protect future travelers--especially those in recovery or anyone who expects basic human decency.

Cable TV worked well, internet took a few minutes to connect but worked fine, and showers were hot. Other patrons were quiet and caused no disturbances. Only issue was the tub drain that did not drain, but after borrowing a plunger and attempting to gain flow, the manager gave me the room key to the room next door so we could continue our shower process. Problem solved! It is family- run establishment, which I like to support- and although dated, it was clean, convenient, and at $147, more affordable than other options in Cortez. Thanks, White Eagle!

**Family-Owned, Clean Pet-Friendly Motel That Checks All the Boxes**…read more The White Eagle Inn was a very nice stop to recharge on our way to New Mexico. Being a family-owned hotel with just three owners in 60 years, it was satisfying to support a local business run by two charismatic and enthusiastic owners that deeply care about their property rather than another hotel chain run by the "Big Six" (IHG, Choice, Wyndham, Hyatt, Marriott, Hilton). We arrived late at night, but the owners were so kind to arrange a late check-in process. Check-in time is from 3-9 so they were generous to accommodate us. The late check in was convenient and socially distant. The owner Kellie even sent ice to our freezer! Nice touch. -Location: The hotel is located right off the highway through Cortez, though a little removed from the city center. -The Hotel: White Eagle has a homey, down-to-earth yet earnest feel. It is a lovely throwback! There are 16 rooms and a nice picnic area with grill. There are 2 areas for the furbabies. Pet friendly but you absolutely need to declare your animals. Rooms are a single level motel format with quaint front desk area. -The Room: We had the triple room 17 which was very comfortable with three double beds. It is located at the end of the motel and has two chairs and a table in front. The room was clean and had retro wood paneling and traditional lamp shades. The bathroom was properly sealed and very clean. There is a table and chairs for eating as well as desk with chair. The beds are a bit springy but nice. It was so nice to have three beds for three travelers. Light fixture above window may need some dusting (mostly negligible but just wanted to point it out). Room blackouts out with ease for easy sleep. The bathroom had tile floors and the shower was very quiet. The water pressure is lower, but this is the desert! Perfectly understandable. However, the hot and cold faucet knobs took more adjusting to get the right temperature (bounced between very hot and very cold fast). They did not skimp, with tons of towels, washcloths, toilet paper, and shampoos/soap (came in individual packages) in the room which was so welcome! A/C ran consistently and the room stayed cool in the Colorado heat. Two important notes are that check out is at 10 AM and that there is no breakfast (though there is tea and coffee). Better get your early bird game on and get the worms! Check out is seamless, just put the key in a drop-off at the lobby door. The owner Mark personally sent us goodbye and gave us some great recommendations for the area. Positives: + Enthusiastic Staff + Three Beds Option + Tons of Towels + Quiet Shower + Only 16 Rooms + Easy Check In and Check Out + Great Value Neutrals: / Location Quips: - No Breakfast (understandable with COVID) - 10 AM Check In (due to COVID) - Knobs on Shower Overall White Eagle Inn was fantastic and we will definitely return when we see Mesa Verde!
