The host was very nice and welcoming and we felt very comfortable to come and go as needed. There is a really great shared kitchen and living room. Our room had a queen bed that was so comfortable we slept great. There are multiple bathrooms on the floor some private with shower, private with only a toilet, or shared with toilets and showers. It's also a great location where we could walk to get food in downtown. We recommend Columbine Bar and Grill and Fahrenheit Coffee Roasters.

We have a full kitchen which we use for most of our meals - a full-size refrigerator, a full-size stove with a large oven, a microwave, and a coffee maker. The sitting room is large. Management is friendly and attentive. The Inn is on the main street but in a very small town--NO TRAFFIC NOISE. We have not heard a car horn or siren all week. Needed services are within walking distance. With the big box stores, Cortez is less than 15 minutes away.

One Star - Outrageous Host Behavior, Unprofessional, and Discriminatory…read more I stayed at Outpost Motel on the River in July 2025. After being treated poorly and forced out of our room despite a verbal agreement to extend our stay, I emailed the property to calmly and respectfully explain the issue and offer a solution. I was polite, reasonable, and offered the property a chance to resolve the situation. In response, I was sent one of the most hostile, abusive, and unprofessional emails I have ever seen. I've attached her response in full so you can read her exact words. She called me a "dumb fuck" and told me to "fuck off," all while claiming to run a "family joint." I'm not sure what kind of family she's referring to, but I wouldn't want mine anywhere near that environment. I am a person in recovery with nearly seven years of sobriety. Her false accusations and dehumanizing language were deeply retraumatizing, stigmatizing, and harmful--and this kind of treatment is dangerous for anyone, especially those in recovery. I've also included time-stamped photos of the room as we left it: clean, undamaged, and not remotely what she falsely described. I've reported her conduct to Booking.com and submitted all supporting documentation. This is not just a case of bad customer service. It's a case of blatant hostility, discrimination, and verbal abuse. I'm sharing this review to protect future travelers--especially those in recovery or anyone who expects basic human decency.

A river meanders nearby as well as an easy walk to an incredible waterfall on property. Eric is the heart of this place (he cares for it as his own and is so detail oriented)(Emily is new and petty fantastic too). Special shout out to Holly (she made us feel so so welcome), Kelly. Alice, and John were fantastic as well. But all the staff are fantastic! This year especially. We've been several times and this was by far our favorite staff experience. Soaking under the stars in the hot springs is incredible as are the communal dinners. The road to get here can be a bit bumpy but once you arrive you quickly see it was all very well worth it. I cannot say enough about how kind and helpful the staff were in helping us get cell service and internet and a comfortable place to wait the hours it took to get a tow truck and taxi service from the rental company. They researched ways to fix our car and provided information to help us find a way to get to Durango. They went FAR, FAR out of their way to help two people who weren't even staying with them. I can only imagine how they take care of their guests. The property is rich in natural beauty, and we hope to be able to actually stay here one day. We know we'll be in the kindest and most considerate of hands when we do.
