We had some good and bad experiences here. The place is beautiful and clean. Most of the instructors are nice and helpful. But there is one instructor who obviously does not want to be there and she makes it uncomfortable for the kids and the parents. We tried to brush it off but it was affecting our kids learning and they dreaded when she was the instructor. Why pay for someone who doesn't want to teach your kids and makes them uncomfortable? Communication was always an issue as well. Several times there were scheduling issues. We appreciate what our kids learned but there also wasn't any new skills being taught, each lesson was repetitive even after years. While we really liked some of the instructors we felt it was best to leave and find somewhere where our kids felt comfortable. read more

Had a great time for my first lesson here! Bought the Groupon for 3 lessons and my instructor was Diana who's there on Sundays. I let her know my confidence had been shaken from a fall as a kid and she put me on Slick, a nice smooth quarterback who definitely was a good match for me. Her instruction was great especially after it being my first training on a horse in about 4 years. Yes, riding time did only come out to about 30-40 mins for an hour lesson but I didn't mind grooming down Slick and spending some time loving on him. Such a great boy :) Also, this place does take a while to get back to you. I read other reviews and bought the Groupon knowing that so I wasn't surprised when it took about a week for them to get back to me via email. I booked my next appointment while at the barn so I wouldn't have to worry about that again. read more

I saw this awesome deal through Groupon and I bought my wife 5 lessons. The first lesson she took she was treated with little respect. The second lesson was canceled last minute while she was on her way there. We rescheduled with difficulty and when they finally found an opening, the trainer was 20 min late. She never received her 3rd, 4th or 5th lesson as we attempted to call and left messages several times without a single response. They still owe us 3 lessons and it's been over 6 months. It really seems like they don't care. There are an abundance of other stables that are substantially superior to this one, avoid this one at all cost! read more

I have started learning to ride at the age of 67. It's a lifelong dream of mine. I was given one lesson at Earthquake Arabians by a grown daughter as a present for Mother's Day this year, and I have fallen in love with the place. (The daughter is taking lessons too now!) It's a GREAT place for kids, but it's not just for kids!! If you are an adult who wants to learn to ride horses, get right out there, they're the best. Hope you have half as much fun as I'm having! Megan is a SUPER trainer and teacher, and thanks to her I'm now going on wilderness horse rides in the Eastern Sierra and looking forward to doing some cattle drives! Me! Wow! And I'm no athlete, I assure you! These people are fabulous, the barn is a great place for anyone interested in horses to hang around, good vibes, happy horses, happy kids, and they're winning competitions too! Very user-friendly, they'll take you where you are and take you where you want to go. If you want to do it, with their help you can do it! It's not just about being up on the horse, they teach care of horses, the use of the equipment, and general horsemanship. How to conduct yourself around a horse, what to watch for out on the trail. The owners are certified horse trainers, not just riding teachers, and they know a great deal about the fine points of horse training and behavior, and they will teach you. Writing this review for Earthquake Arabians is way overdue. Our daughter has been taking horseback riding lessons from Tammy for a few years now and her riding ability has blossomed. She also competes in shows on the Earthquake Arabians show team and has won numerous ribbons and awards. But she has gained so much more from her time working with Tammy and Megan. This is because at Earthquake, they don't just teach kids now to ride horses, they teach them how to become confident and self-assured young women. The barn specializes in Arabian horses and is family friendly and affordable. Every effort is taken to maintain the safety of the riders. One of the things that impresses us the most was how clean this facility is. It was a welcome change from some other horseback riding facilities we had tried with our daughter in the past. Earthquake is also appropriate for all ages, they teach children to ride almost as soon as they can get on a horse, but I have also seen them giving lessons to much older riders as well. Horseback riding is not an inexpensive sport, but Earthquake Arabians is surprisingly affordable and they will work with your budget and do their best to make it work for you. A by-product of all this is the wonderful relationships our daughter has forged with the other riders at Earthquake. She loves her time at the barn hanging out with her friends and working together to help with younger riders. We feel so lucky to have found Earthquake Arabians and Tammy in particular. We had our daughter's 3rd birthday party here last month and it was great experience and fun place to go for the kids. Earthquake Arabians provided us with everything, decorations and goodie bags. Everything was customized, and we had the entire facility to ourselves. It was great for the kids to ride horses, and they loved painting horses I recommend this place if you don't want to worry about anything and have no mess to clean up at the end of the party. The owners and staff are really kind and professional, and they made it so easy for us to plan this party. We like our children's parties to be detailed and special, and having our daughter's party at Earthquake Arabians was like having it at home, but without the headache of planning. We just came from our birthday party hosted at Earthquake Arabians. It was a great experience. The girls learned about grooming a horse and taking part in the grooming. Had a 45 minute lesson teaching them how to stop, start, turn and more on the horse. After they actually painted a horse. Girls all had a great time. read more

Everything about my experience deserves six stars. My friend and I, both in our 60's, drove all the way from San Francisco on a miserable wet day. It was totally worth it. The place was clean, the horses and teachers were great, and the people hanging out in the barn and around the ring were lovely. My friend had never had a lesson, and I had not taken any lessons since I was 40: 25 years ago! They rejected my geriatric helmet as dangerously unsafe, and explained why. It was good to know and understand. My teacher Nicole walked me through tacking up my horse Panik, one of four horses they keep for students. In the ring, she was patient, and moved me smoothly and at a perfect tempo through a review of skills right up until I hit my level of incompetence, moving Panik smoothly into a canter from a walk. By that time the lesson was almost over. Her reminders as to my form (e.g. shorten reins, post on the correct lead, etc.) were gentle and on target. Even her mnemonic device for correct lead will be permanently helpful to me. Panik was totally responsive. I loved him. I want to contrast all this with many experiences I have had in the past, where barns were not clean, horses seemed to wish they were anywhere else, other people around the barn were cold and cliquish, and the instructors were verbally abusive despots. None of the great features of Earthquake Arabians should be taken for granted! My one caveat is, that as others have mentioned, there was a glitch in getting my first communications responded to. I wish they answered their phone, as when we arrived from San Francisco, we weren't sure of exactly where to go, and my phone call to try to find out was unanswered. But once that was smoothed out, it was all great. read more

We moved to Concord a few months ago and I immediately started looking for a place to take riding lessons (I'm an adult beginner-to-intermediate rider). I researched stables and made a few inquiries; Earthquake got back to me in a timely and friendly manner and within a few days I had my first lesson with instructor Juliana. You know when things just click? That was the experince I had, from the moment I showed up at the stable! I'm now taking two lessons a week and am making more progress and having more fun than I ever had in my past lesson experiences. We gave my daughter horseback riding lessons for Christmas this year (purchased from a groupon) and are we glad we did. This place is marvelous! The teacher, Alex, for one, is patient, caring, and she knows horses. The facility is clean and organized, and the horses seem content and well cared for. The surroundings are idyllic, with a gorgeous stream running along side the pastures and beautiful trees and foliage. There are also pigs and mini horses to amuse while you wait for your child's lesson (adults can have lessons too). I was lucky enough to score a groupon for my two children to try a lesson here. Neither had been on a horse before and were incredibly nervous. After an hour, they were beaming and had already come a long way! I am a teacher by trade and was very impressed with their teaching style. I really like that they emphasize learning how to care for the horse. They were patient and encouraging to my nervous kids. What a great experience! Had a great experience taking a friend's 10 year old daughter here for her first riding lesson. Vicky devoted the whole hour + more to not only teaching the basics of sitting on a horse and making it walk, but educating about horses in general. The day was extraordinary and the staff made every one of the children feel special and were attentive to their needs. Each child enjoyed riding their own horse (so cool) and had Numerous great hands on experience. Children ranged in age from 3-10 years of age. I highly recommend a birthday party at Earthquake Arabians' beautiful stables. Brentwood folks really need to check this out!!! I called the number groupon gave me and they said "I am sorry we only take appointment via email." So i emailed them and never heard back from them. So i email them again and never heard back from them. Finally after weeks they emailed me back asking what days I am available? i emailed them back with several days and again don't hear from them for weeks. basically this went on for months until my groupon expired. Excellent facility and wonderful supportive staff that is there to make your horse experience positive. Facility is first class yet has a country feel which inhances the experiience.
