And who better to resurface a tub than a business by the epic name of Mr. Resurface? I contacted them through Yelp and the first of my many e-mail exchanges with Ernest resulted in just a few hours. The communication was fantastic -he was super responsive and we handled everything (pricing, options, deposit, appointment) electronically. He arrived as scheduled around 9:30 on Friday and he was finished around 3:00. He was very polite, professional, thorough, neat, and a real pleasure to deal with. He set up a venting system (that looked like a giant caterpillar) down our center hallway into a bedroom window to evacuate the fumes from the resurfacing spray -that was a very nice touch. We added on for a non-slip treatment to the tub floor and a professional caulking job around the tub/floor and tub/wall joints. The finished job looks fantastic and we were very happy with the work Ernest did.

How could one project go so well and the second project end in disappointment?…read moreThe first hardwood floor installation in June 2025 was professional, no dust and job clean up was thorough, it was flawless. It went so well I decided to do another room. Two different workers came this time, July 2025 & asked where my 220 plug was. The worker plugged his wires into my dryer machine plug. I questioned why there was no plug on his machine only wires coming out & he said "it's ok" when they began to sand my new smoke detectors were blaring & I come upstairs to one worker standing in my living room, far from the room they were working on with a mask on in a cloud of dust saying "sorry, something wrong with the machine" and my smoke detectors were put into a bathroom. As a professional they should have prevented the dust from circulating throughout my house and if the equipment was faulty it should not have been used. As soon as the dust was circulating throughout the house the equipment should've been turned off until a working replacement was available. Apparently the sander had no vacuum bag attached, in the high humidity the dust settled & adhered to everything inside the house. The fact that the smoke detectors were blaring was additional proof that the workers created a hazardous environment in my house and judging by the layer of dust on my fan blades I used to clear the air my new smoke detectors are probably compromised. Also the baseboard heater was left dangling from the wall & I had to fix the holes from them ripping it off the wall to reattach properly myself. Also worth noting, I have found 2 live cockroaches so far in the rooms that were done. I'm not sure if they were brought in with their equipment or what, but I have never seen previously in my home. I felt my concerns expressed to Brian were not taken seriously and the only apology I received for the second job nightmare was from 2 of his employees and none from the owner of the business. If this happened on the first job, they would never have been hired for the second Job. I have other projects I'm looking forward to do, but will look elsewhere. I would give the first job 4/5 stars, but zero for the second.

The owner, Brian Harding, came in within just a few days, and gave me a great estimate! He was very professional, honest, and right on point about a few nicks that were already on my floors. Initially, the estimate lacked any detailed information and any scope of work... just a price. When I insisted we met to clarify, his price was $1000 more than the original price and it became clear the scope of work he had in mind did not align with my expectations. The cost was then raised significantly more than that to be almost $3k more than the original estimate, which I could not afford. George said he would call me back that evening after looking at the numbers to see if he could do better. He did not ever call. The next day, when I decided to hold off due to budget concerns, I communicated this respectfully. (I never signed any contract) In response, I received a series of unprofessional and harassing messages from George, the owner, (at 4:30 am!) including insults (calling me stupid several times) and inappropriate language. ("FU") This level of disrespect and unprofessionalism is unacceptable and left me shocked. I recommend steering clear of west Hartford Finishing.
