Fast food place, clothing discounters, liquor store and even some EV chargers. I loved going to this particular TJs in years past as they closed at 10pm. That is when I prefer to do grocery shopping - as late as possible on my way home. Some people make special trips for grocery shopping. They even set aside whole afternoons for it with coupon hunting or Costco. I just don't like grocery shopping that much. TJs is great for that. Sadly this TJs closes at 9 these days like every other around.

The Oakland City Center is always super clean!!…read more The 12th Street Bart Station is located just down the stairs, and this place is right in the middle of Downtown Oakland. Old Oakland and Oakland Chinatown are just a few blocks away. Lots of small places to eat here, although most are closed during the weekend. You can tell this is a major lunch area during the week for businesses located here and the surrounding area. I think if they promoted this place a little better, it has the potential to be a very popular place, mostly because it is so aesthetically pleasing!!

Hoped their supervisor teaches them how to communicate well with the public, so they don't end up confusing people by giving little info.

But there are other stores here along with restaurants and coffee shops. Seems like this is more of a place to hang out at to me. They had live music the time I was here. I got lucky and found some street parking, but make sure you feed that meter, the Berkeley meter patrol doesn't play. They are waiting for that meter to expire and they circle this area a lot!!

It's not a big street and there's a limited number of shops, but it's nice to take a quick stroll down. I'll be honest, none of the shops here are really from brands or stores I would normally shop at (lol rich people stores), so we really didn't stop by a lot of them and most of them were closing for the evening anyways (I have learned that lots of things in the Bay Area close quite early). Now they have fancy-ish, ethnically diverse delights, a meat counter, and a cupcake place and a lot of closed stalls. The most frustrating for me is that they will have a stall that is fantastic, only to have it close in a couple of years. The people who work there are very nice. We did have a weird interaction with someone from a restaurant that was no longer there. The value is fine. This is a place that I will park and go to if I see a parking space. If I don't, I won't even bother. I don't know how I feel about them. They are so far from what they used to be and I wonder if closing down and starting over would have been preferable.

Housewife's replaced the old farmers market which was often called the "Free Market" because they gave away much of the unsold produce that remained when they closed after they were open for a few days. One was a package of a dozen well-known brands of athletic socks for almost 50% less than what I had seen in other stores. I had a brief interaction with one of the associates, and she was very helpful in finding what I was looking for in another section. Altogether, a very positive shopping experience.

Overall the place needs a little new life brought into it. Some reimagining and maybe new trendy stores.
