My family had a blast here for our family reunion! We rented a boat and went tubing, rented jet skis and brought our paddle boards. My husband and I also camped overnight in a tent. I'm dying to come back and try the yurts! I'm honestly afraid to share the news about how great this place is because it seems like a hidden gem for locals! The water was refreshing. I do recommend water shoes since the shore is muddy, rocky and has some thorns on the edges! Overall I highly recommend this place for a nice summer getaway. Could be a great day trip or overnight camp stay! It also gets really dark at night so you can see the stars. read more

The beach could get 4-5 stars, but jet skis dot the beach and swimming landscape. You need to keep your head on a swivel to avoid injury. The water used to be clear, but it is murky with engine oil and gas. It would be fun to swim , kayak, paddle board etc, however since DNR ranger's wink and nod at Jet-skis, speed boats and other motorized floating vessels which have taken over the swimming area, it's dicey at best to do those activities from the beach. There's a huge empty dock adjacent to the beach where boats and jets skis are supposed to dock, but a ranger told us, "too bad so sad, if you don't like it, don't come to the (pay to get in) beach. read more

Back again, and I'm kinda amazed that I went 30 years without visiting. After rediscovering the reservoir last year, I've made a few trips. Shortly after my last visit, the park earned the distinction of being an International Dark Sky Park, which is kinda surprising given its proximity to SLC, but who am I to argue. I have come here on a couple of occasions and slept out under the stars and that's just it--there are definitely stars in that sky. I've only camped at the Dixie side (that's the marina side) but I think next time I'll camp over in the River something-or-other campground. It's quieter over there. I seem to find a lot of, um... less-than-courteous campers at this place, who leave their lights on all night, or burn fires despite the tape and signage prohibiting it this year, and just overall rowdiness. At $35 for a primitive site or hookup sites that start at $40, it's not a cheap night of camping. But to have something close, again, is the real clutch part. The reservoir is way down this year. Way down. Very tiny, very low, very drought-y. But folks are still out there waterskiing and paddleboarding and fishing. Summer lives on at East Canyon. read more

First off, you need to be prepared to be off the internet and phone reception was sketchy. The campground was clean and nice and well maintained. No complaints there. A dump site is available and convenient as you leave. The beach is quite rocky and entrance to the water is murky and under the water is muddy and I sunk down in it making it difficult to get on my kayak. The water had a faint smell to it and there were many boats and jet skiis on the water so maybe it was oil or gas, not sure. The general store has a lot to be desired and was very sparse. Not planning on returning. The nearest town is Morgan (~10 miles north) which is just a small agricultural town with a couple of fast food places ie. McDonald's, Subway. There is a Ridley's Market and an Ace Hardware on the main drag. If you're coming up from the Park City area, I would avoid taking the road on Maps through East Canyon. Lots of switchbacks and difficult to navigate hauling a trailer. Go I-80 to I-84 and get off in Morgan. read more

Great place during summer! Boat rides and such! During winter the lake is frozen but still a pretty sight.

I love this state park mainly due to the crystal clear blue waters of the lake and the recreation it provides, but I also just loved the fact that there was grass. I know, sounds silly, but the last time we went to a lake, it was kind of desert-y and kind of snake-y, too. This lake feels like an actual park with lush green grassy areas, perfect for playing sports, throwing a Frisbee, kicking back at the BBQ..awesome. Picnic areas are plentiful and they have a couple of larger pavilions to accommodate larger groups. The beach was larger here than at Rockport, but this can change any time due to water levels. Rockport is usually higher, as well. One negative (that may not be a negative to you), there is no cell phone signal out here. It made finding everyone in our group difficult when we had vague directions. We ended up pulling into the wrong side of the park, thinking that was the day-use area, but it was really just a small camp ground. The park entrance is way around the other side of the lake and it will feel like you've gone too far, but you haven't. Great for a nice summer day. Highly recommend, and the drive out here is simply gorgeous, though a bit winding and treacherous. read more

After got off I-84, long up hill and many sharp turns it appeared the beautiful resvoir in the east canyon. We camped here 4 days. Enjoying fishing, trailing and taking lot of pictures. We saw sheep and a harding dog coming down the hill. Just like movie! You would expect see some more wild life here @ East Canyon state park like Elk, Moose and Mountain lion. Not to be confused with East Canyon Resort, though. The staff were very helpful giving us lot of great info. read more

We planned on only staying one night here heading back east but it was so nice we stayed 2. The road going to the park off the freeway is a little dicey but completely driveable with a large rv and totally worth it. I can't even describe the views from the park, snowy mountains in the background over the crystal clear lake. The spots were large and spaced apart pretty well so you had a lot of room. At each site we're canopies with aluminum picnic tables and fire pits. There was no water since it was early in the year so we had to pump water into our tanks which would have been nice to know before we got there when we called and spoke to woman on the phone. The park manager Chris is super nice and suggested a lot to do in the area. Probably one of the best parks we have stayed at across the country. read more

This is a nice place. I would expect more though. The floating playground is outrageously expensive as well as the jet skis and boat rentals. The female staff was rude, but the male staff was kind and wanted to help with any questions. The sand was super rocky and the mud made it extremely uncomfortable to walk on. Overall a fine experience, but I would rather go to Tibble Fork or Deer Creek. Sorry guys, but it's a no from me. -Simon Cowell read more

the camping and the lake were an amazing experience! However, the camp host in the Dixie campground was not very pleasant. She gave away our campground because my car was not there. it was still parked within the campground just not at my specific spot. When we confronted her about why someone was in our campground that we had paid for and reserved months in advance she proceeded to tell us that it was our fault that the car wasn't there so she just assumed we left and made up a story that i had complained and said it was to hot and packed up and left, which was completely untrue. Instead of talking to us and trying to figure it out she was yelling and extremely rude. It left a bad taste in our mouth about camping there which is sad because it is so close to home. read more

I've been coming to East Canyon resort for over 10 years for family reunions same time every year. One of the amenities my family looks forward to the most is the gun range. Sadly it is now closed. Under the reasoning that it's a fire hazard? All the previous years it wasn't. I guess we will have to find another location to teach our children responsible gun safety and respect for firearms. Pretty sure there's another reason they closed it but don't want to admit it. Oh well it's their loss of revenue. read more

We just spent this past weekend at East Canyon State Park. We were lucky to be able to stay in a Yurt. The grounds, bathrooms, office, yurt were all clean and well maintained. We especially liked the park ranger Chris Haramoto, he was so helpful, as we were new to the park, he went out of his way to help us, and even talked to our teenage son about working in this field. Kent was also very helpful when I made calls in advance about the park. This is a beautiful place, if you want to enjoy nature, and beauty, I would recommend it. read more
