Regardless of whether it was intended as a joke, it was an insensitive and racially inappropriate comment that should never have been made in a professional workplace. What disturbed me even more was the response. Instead of addressing the comment, the manager laughed along. That reaction sent the message that this kind of behavior was acceptable. As a white customer, I recognize that I don't experience racism the way people of color do, but witnessing this interaction was upsetting. My heart went out to the two African American stylists who had to work in that environment. If someone feels comfortable making comments like that openly in front of customers, it raises concerns about what may be said when customers aren't around. Businesses should foster a respectful, inclusive environment for both employees and customers. Décor looks great, there's always good music playing, and they're following all the proper COVID measures to ensure a safe and clean experience. It's a full service barber Shop- so you can get a beard trim, a shave, or a cut (or combo of all). Though the shop feels brand new- the haircut itself is all about the old school barber experience. Straight razor on the neck, neck & scalp massage, wash & condition, hot towels- you can expect the whole nine yards. Halcyon Barber is by appointment only- but the online booking process is easy and I've never had trouble getting an appointment for a cut.
