Easily one of my favorite public courses in NoVa! Fun course, friendly staff, great price. Facilities: There is a practice putting green, but there isn't a driving range - they do have practice nets with free balls you can use to warm up though. The clubhouse is nice and clean, but nothing special. Beers range in price from $6-$6.50 and they do serve hot food in addition to snacks. Course: The course is beautiful and well-maintained. The tee boxes, fairways and greens were all in great condition, and there are a ton of doglegs and interesting elevations which makes for some fun golf. For the nature lovers, there are a ton of birdhouse throughout the course which attracts a fair amount of different species of birds adding to the atmosphere. Difficultly wise I think it's easy enough for beginners to enjoy, but also enough of a challenge that low handicaps won't get bored. Pace of Play: We had a 4pm tee time for 18 holes on a Saturday and had no issues with pace of play. We walked the course and finished within the 4:20hr stated PoP without slowing up or feeling rushed by the groups in front/behind us. Staff: Amazing staff! Everyone from the pro-shop to the starter was friendly and helpful. We were even given bags of ice for our beers to finish the back-9. Negative: Only negative was that they did run out of hot food by the time we reached the turn (around 6pm). All-in-all, I can't wait to come back and play this course again! read more

Whatever they are paying Miki at the pro shop, it's not enough. She is the sweetest lady and they are all so kind. I left my bluetooth speaker after playing a round, and at most golf courses, it wouldve been long gone. Not here!! A called a week after leaving it and they still had it in the lost and found and put it aside for me to pick up at my earliest convenience. Oh yeah, the course is great too. I golfed here on 4/2/26 with some of my friends and I wanted to talk about the staff. They were absolutely fantastic and very friendly and professional. The course has 1 hole closed at the moment and took 20% off the round when most courses wouldn't have done that. I bet that was a management decision but still a great thing to do. The staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful in every way. I paid for my tee time before the round and the pro shop attendants/workers couldn't have been more quick with 10/10 service. The starter was very pleasant as well. After 9 holes I made the turn and went into the shop to get a few drinks and I believe the attendant's name was Christie and she was so nice and made friendly small talk with me and my golfing partners. Honestly it's not like they went above and beyond but I feel like golf courses have a stigma of being a bit rude or brash at times and it also was my first time here and it just made me be able to enjoy my day there that much more. As a new and young golfer I can't wait to go back with my buddies and play some more golf. Golf course conditions were expected with the price($35 for a round) but honestly the only thing that can be better is the greens but only on some holes and that's basically it. Fairway lies were pretty darn good too. Safe to say I enjoyed my time and I definitely wanted to leave a review of the customer service just based on how good they treated my group and I. This used to be my friends' and my go-to course when we wanted to get together for a round of golf. Unfortunately, during our most recent visit we were told at check-in that two holes were not playable due to construction. There was no warning about this when we booked our tee time online, which was frustrating. We asked if we could replay two other holes to still complete 18, but were told that wasn't allowed. If I had known ahead of time that two holes would be closed, I would have gladly paid an extra $10 to play at a better course. Because of lack of communication and price, I will not be returning to this course. read more

4 stars for a much-improved Virginia public golf course. My wife and I were looking to get 9 holes in one weekday evening and were not interested in dealing with the wait times at East Potomac. I saw that Greendale, located off Telegraph Road in Alexandria, was offering 9 hole rounds in the evening for $25. We had played Greendale a few years ago and were pretty disappointed by the conditions, but the recent reviews were pretty good so we gave it a try. We arrived around 6:30 and were able to rush on to the course to get our round started. What we found was a golf course that was in really good condition. The greens are still a little slow, but they are in much better shape and the fairways and bunkers are lightyears better. Our playing partner was a very pleasant left-handed golfer who mentioned that he was grabbing a 9 hole round for the same reason and was also pleasantly surprised. In terms of the course, the first hole is a long par 4 that is the toughest on the course that dog legs to the right. You then walk a couple feet over to a short straight par 5 before moving over to the first of 3 par 3s. None of the 3 par 3s are particularly difficult, but each is a little interesting with trees and a slight bend for the first par 3 and water on the other 2. The course feels very links style with lots of trees lining each side, but isn't too punishing and is overall not too long with only 6200 yards from the back tees. Overall, Greendale's much improved course makes for a great public golf experience. My wife and I will definitely check them out again. read more

I have played here a couple of times now. This course is a great course and staff is very friendly for everyday players. Some Fairways are close to other therefore keep your head on the swivel for players teeing off in your direction. I will continue to play this course in the future. read more

Greendale is a very challeging 18 hole course off Telegraph Road. The fairways tend to be narrow and you can spend a lot of time searching for your ball in the woods. the rough can be very rough. They have a small pro shop and a nice grill. If you are playing 18 i recommend a cart. 18 holes at good rate. read more

Walked 18 September 9th for $27 plus a push cart for $5. Haven't played this course in over 10 years. It's in a low laying area which makes some area wet most of the time. Greens were aerated recently with no top dressing sands and extremely slow. some greens had dead patches which makes putting difficult. if your looking to just play and walk with no regards of course conditions , then greendale GC is right for you. If you want to play here only play the front nine. It is literal night and day between the front and back nine. I understand this is a muni course, and you get what you pay for, but I still expect an average general upkeep, which was to be desired here. The tee boxes were not cut and were mostly crab grass, thus when trying to tee the ball a little lower, you were swinging like you were in light rough. The greens were either a hit or miss. Many of them were in decent condition, but the further on the track you went the worse they got. For example, see the 13th green photo where the hole wasn't even in the ground. Even for a municipal course, not worth the $52 for 18 and a cart. Better off paying $60-$70 and getting a good outing at Twin Lakes or Jefferson District. Bottom line: If you are a casual golf player who plays 5-10 times a year and you don't want to break the bank, this course is for you. It's not spectacular, but for the price, it's what you have to expect. Pros: - It's rather cheaper to play 18 here for this area. - Short course so it's walkable. I saw more people walking than riding. - Staff was friendly. Cons: - The greens and tee boxes have giant patches of dirt. I played in September so it's getting later in the season but still. It's unacceptable. - No drainage. If it rained recently then you will be playing in swamp like conditions. My wedge cut through the fairway like a knife in butter. So bad that they had to close hole 14 (par 3) when I played, although they did give a 25% discount due to that. - The "sand traps" did not have fresh sand. More like a dirt patch. - The rough was very long. If you didn't hit the fairway off your drive you had a 50/50 chance of finding your ball because it just hides under the long grass. - Pace of play was slow. Because so many people walk here, it took forever to play and nobody was enforcing it. read more

Forget all the 2018-2022 reviews that dis the course. The course is tight on most driving holes and the trees and rough can be punishing but it's a great challenge and a fun course for all level of players. Two of the par threes are over water and dog legs require you to know your clubs and how far you hit them. The tee boxes and greens are all in great shape (new course maintenance management and additional staff) and the drainage issues have for the most part been mitigated. If there is a heavy rain it will be wet in some of the lower spots buts drying more quickly than in the past. The lack of a warm up practice area is the only negative. The course fees are reasonable and the staff are all great people. read more

The best thing a golfer can do is NOT PLAY HERE. Your money is better spent on ANYTHING else. Course conditions meet a zero. No sand, little bread on tees or they choose to not mow them. At least 2 or 4 greens have been lost to go knows what dirt, crab grass. Enough, for me as a tax payer i request the county sell the land to developers to build ANYTHING that's going to bring in revenue. I will never play here again. If the choice is play or not play, I'll not play. Oh, and I've played this course since it opened in 1976ish. The median on the Fairfax county parkway is maintained better than this golf course. read more

I had never heard of Greendale until recently and it has become my favorite Par 4 in Northern Virginia. The staff is fantastic, the community of players are very friendly, the course is kept up in pristine shape (especially the fairways) and it's in a great location. I understand some of the gripes about this course, but I honestly think its a fun place to play. It's not in top shape, but it's usually pretty well maintained and has a few challenging features. Here are some things to consider: 1. It's the same price as East Potomac, but about 50% less crowded (big plus). 2. It really makes you play your entire bag. 3. There are some challenging features, like water hazards. 4. "Better" courses are usually in Maryland or 30-40 mins west of DC, so saves time. 5. It's been in good shape every time I play here. The course is gorgeous in the fall. 6. Really good for beginners to intermediate players. 7. There's a drainage problem. Playing here after lots of rain will turn into mudball. 8. There isn't a range, but they do have a good putting green for warm up. Bottomline: Great course for the money, hardly ever crowded, easy to find and good for a quick 18. If you want to work on your game, and you don't want to pay $70 (or a 6 hour round at East Potomac) to do it, give Greendale a go. read more

Unfortunately, this course falls short of expectations in many ways...which is a shame since it's so close to my house. First off, the course itself is generally in average shape at best. I've yet to see it in a beautiful condition, except for maybe a few holes. The layout leaves something to be desired. While there are a few challanging holes, there are some (like 17) that are just poorly thought out. Then we come to the pace of play. Wow. I am not sure I have finished a round here on the weekend under 5 hours. They really try to pack people in, and there is no one out there keeping things moving. You have to clear your whole day to get a round in. The worst part of the course has been the management. Like someone said below, this is not some expensive club, but they act like it is. We actually were turned away once because we were 25 minutes before our teetime instead of 30. Yes, it's the rule I understand, but they could not have been more rude. And there were dozens of other people in the clubhouse, which showed me they were trying to pack the course as usual. I have actually decided not to return to this course due to the overall bad experience. Take your $50 and go spend it elsewhere. read more

For the location and price this course is a decent value. Of course it's not Stonewall, Whiskey Creek, or Raspberry Falls, but it's half the price and a solid course to practice on. I use it to get out after work or late on the weekends to play a few balls simultaneously to work on all aspects of my game. At one time I enjoyed playing here, but Greendale has fallen into extreme disrepair. The bunkers are filled with tall weeds and rocks. The tee boxes are complete mud on some holes and you can't tee off from them. And sadly, the fairways are half dirt and half ryegrass. They just need to be completely dug up, tilled, and sodded back over again. read more

The prices are cheap, and the greens are as good as you're going to get for a public course, especially at this rate. It's maddening that they don't have a small driving range area, and that the tee times fill up as quickly as they do, but....they're really the only option in this immediate area, so you live with it. this course has a lot of potential. great layout. but it's in poor/mediocre condition. the fairways & rough are overrun with clover. the rough is too long/ thick for recreational play. the height makes it tough to find balls , resulting in slow play. the base of many trees have heavy vines & undergrowth. also slowing play. Fairfax County, you waste so much $ on stupid woke things. get your act together. assuming theres a good greenskeeper. , spend the extra money & bring this course back to life. read more

Full Disclosure -- I was playing there with a friend for free the day we went out there and it started raining very hard the last 4 holes. First interaction of the day was with the pro shop staff and they were very much too serious, professional and thought they were working at a fine country club. This is not that. You need to realize that understand the type of golfers that are coming out there. Ones that are hoping to not pay a lot for a round a golf and we don't expect you to tell us that we had to wait 20 minutes for our tee time when there is nobody on the tee. The course was in OK shape for a public golf course -- I grew up playing all public courses in NC -- but the greens were just so slow. They need to cut them every day especially with all of the rain that we have had this summer. The front 9 was a bit more fun then the back 9. A couple of memorable holes out there, but other then number 10 nothing really sticks out. I'll probably go back but couldn't see myself paying what they charge to play that track. read more

Horrible Management = Horrible Golf Experience Was playing with two friends on a Saturday 5/17/2013. Was stuck behind a group of 5 using 3 carts. Pace of play up to that point had been around 6 hours. The Marshall drives up to us on the 6th hole and tells us we need to play faster. Now if you are a golfer you know that being stuck behind slow play is very annoying, but understand that it happens from time to time. However, to then be told you need to play faster when you have clearly been stuck behind a slow group - it's not a good feeling, let's just put it that way. After the round, explained what happened to the Manager at the clubhouse who responded saying that the group of 5 only actually had 4 people playing. Totally missing the point! Don't expect any customer service or common sense at this course. read more

This course is right up the street from me so I've tried hard to like it. If you're a new player or a hacker this may be an ok option to learn the game. It's cheap and the majority of people that play here aren't very good so there's not a lot of pressure to hurry up. However, if you are a decent golfer, this is the worst public course in Northern Virginia. It's always sopping wet, the greens are inconsistent from one hole to the next, and there is no effort to regulate slow play. I played this morning and we tee'd off 25 minutes late. The course was in such bad shape that I had to move my ball out of the mud in the fairway several times. The people that work here are very nice but that's about the only redeeming quality. read more

This is a CHEAP golf course for a reason . They cannot manage this course well. Seen better course management at a 9 hole course in Maryland .... walked off course after 11 holes . Course was in decent shape and a good value for the money.. The staff inside was VERY nice and helpful. The starter (old white guy in his 70s) was an arrogant prick from start to finish. He threatened to throw me off the course for life because I was putting on 18 at 7:59 and the course apparently closes at 8. With all the competition and different courses in the area, I probably won't be back just because of this individual. I recommend going on GolfNow and booking a tee time in the same price range to receive better treatment. read more

Every time I go to this course, they have some sort of maintenance going on and there is loud equipment on many of the holes. It is not pleasant and distracts from the game. I don't know why they don't limit that during playing time. Other courses that I go to, look great, yet don't do so much maintenance. I will go other places that are more pleasant to play. read more

The location and the price are excellent. The course is not. Many of the holes just need to be blown up - particularly the 13th and 17th holes. The course is too short for today's equipment and the greens are always stupid slow. But hey, it's a muni. Good place for beginners and high-handicappers. The golf course is pretty decent and driver-friendly. Wide open fairways are nice for the amateur. Every once in a while some deer will wander onto the course which is neat. It doesn't seem to handle rain very well - played there this morning and it was a muddy mess. My biggest complaint is the staff. For the most part, they are friendly, but I think they forget they work at a municipal course. This isn't Pebble Beach, people, lighten up. read more
