Came here on ClassPass on a Tuesday night for their Reformer All Levels class with Josephine. I've never used a reformer before and Josephine was super awesome in terms of helping me use the machine and being patient while I figured things out. I think the studio is gorgeous and felt very clean! There's a big open space with plenty of mats and mirrors in the front and a smaller room in the back with around 5 or 6 reformers. The back room also has a mirror so you can check your form. The reformer class was very low impact but I still felt like I got a workout out of it. Josephine is really good about giving various modifications so you can push yourself at different levels during the class. read more

Only thing to note is that the teachers move very fast and you won't received personal 1 on 1 attention unless you sign up for that specific type of class at a higher price. Many people think that yoga and Pilates are only for hipster women, but everyone can benefit from practicing them. It can help bodybuilders lift heavier weights and do more reps. It can also help runners increase their stamina and alleviate knee pain. I used to practice Pilates at Progressive Pilates, but due to a financial situation (which I won't get into), I had to stop. Long story short, my situation improved. Today, I took a mat class at ERP with Kate. Unlike at Yoga to the People in which the instructor aimlessly meanders around the class, Kate interacted with the class. She went around correcting people and offering words of encouragement. The ab exercises were deceptively hard. The arm exercises were even harder. One embarrassing moment was when we were doing arm exercises with the two pound weights. I was struggling with it while some females who were half my size did it with ease. Nevertheless, the pain that I endured throughout the class was totally worth it. At the end of the class, I felt a pump in my biceps. The studio was immaculate. In addition, there was enough space for everyone to do the exercises. A mat class is $22, which is borderline overpriced. At least that's cheaper that Progressive, which is $25. Besides the price, I have one complaint: ERP doesn't accept cash. I feel that's somewhat snobbish. Contrary to popular belief, not everyone has a credit or debit card. The card only policy prevents low income people, teenagers, and elderly people from attending class. This might have been the reason why I was the only person in the class who wasn't white or Asian. Will I return? Probably. I just wish that ERP changes its no cash policy. read more

Love their broadway location but the reformer class on this location is too cramped. Overall disappointed with the class I took here, it felt more of a mat class than a reformer class. Spent most time off the machine than on it. Also, for an advanced class expected it to focus more on the exercises than just breathing and stretching. Felt more like a yoga class than Pilates. Really disappointed with the instructor and location. Waste of class and time. Would definitely go back to the instructors and classes at Broadway. I have only good things to say about ERP. One of my friends is an instructor and I decided to give it a try since Pilates is my favorite form of exercise. My first class was a mat Pilates 10:30 am with Chloe, at the South 1st location. First off, it's smells NICE inside, I'm sooo turned off when studios have that gross sweat smell. Just can't get into it. So that was a very pleasant surprise. There is a little area right in front to take your shoes off and cubbies near the back. The receptionist and ALL of the receptionists I've dealt with here have a big smile on their face, treat you super kindly, answer any and all questions, and now I'm even known by name after 4-5 classes. So for overall aesthetic and cleanliness, this place gets 5 stars...it's open and bright and airy, ahhh I look forward to walking in the doors every time. So onto the classes, WOW. Chloe KILLS it with her mat Pilates and the springboard classes. I noticed a difference in my body after just a few classes. She gives amazing direction, and it's a SERIOUS workout. Always offers modifications and helps with adjusting. Every body part is covered..abs, legs, butt, arms, back, etc. I've never enjoyed classes like I do here. I've also had 2 other instructors for Springboard, Lauren and Kate. They are also wonderful, and seriously you can tell the instructors are REAL pros. I'm always super impressed when they come over to adjust me and then you feel a huge difference, it's really amazing. ERP is a little on the pricey side, HOWEVER, I'm seeing that there is a reason for this. The classes aren't tons of people squeezing in, you don't have to rent or bring a mat, they are always provided, the instructors know what they are doing, and the place is so welcoming and clean. There are a lot of different packages/ memberships available. I'm currently looking into buying 40 mat classes at $16/each. To me it's worth it! It's a healthy addiction in my opinion :) Anyway, HIGHLY RECOMMEND giving this place a shot. Thank you ERP! read more

I have had the pleasure of working with Kimmy one on one, and she is an excellent teacher. She is very personable and informative and will make certain your form is correct throughout the instruction. Kimmy makes learning so much fun with her warm, inviting personality. The sessions always seem to breeze on by! Since starting private instruction with Kimmy, I feel leaner and stronger than ever and I've become much more cognizant of my form. In fact, since beginning my sessions, a slight knee injury I had has resolved itself and much credit has to be given to Kimmy for stressing form and exercises to strengthen parts of my body I never would have trained before. Came here for a mat pilates class on a Sunday morning aka hungover. This place is located in the basement level of a huge building right under the Williamsburg Bridge. At first, the studio was kind of hard to find because the basement entrance is to the right of the building behind a gate and down the stairs. There is a note on the door that gives you instructions on how to find their entrance. The studio itself was really small (unless this was just that space for this class). It fit a max of about 10 people comfortably during class. The only issue was getting around the space before and after class. No need to bring mats to their classes - they're nicely laid out for you - just wipe them down after use. The instructor (can't remember her name) had such a great sense of humor and great music playlist. She engaged the class in conversation while we did the exercises which was cool. The class itself was challenging (especially since I was hungover a bit) but gave me a great burn once we were done. Can't wait to return! read more

So happy this place opened! I was devastated when Kimmy stopped teaching at SOMA so you can imagine my joy when I saw her name next to this studio on class pass. Kimmy gives so much personal attention, with tons and tons of positive encouragement throughout class. She also gives thoughtful corrections that are super helpful and motivational and never discouraging. I also had the pleasure of taking Natalie's cardio+condition class last Sunday morning and what an amazing workout! A perfect circuits workout feel great to head out to brunch with friends, or wherever your Sunday takes you. Natalie plays amazing music! She gives super clear instruction so you nail your form but in such an open, happy manner that the class still feels relaxing and friendly and fun. This is a great studio where you will be challenged, grow stronger and get personalized attention. Kimmy (studio owner and pilates extraordinaire) is an amazing, fun and encouraging instructor. I take reformer classes with her about once a week, and it's always something I look forward to. She teaches 3 students at a time in her reformer classes, making them very small and focused. I have noticed a big change in my strength and pilates level over just a few months and Kimmy will really push you. The studio itself is very clean and has a great vibe, very relaxing and open. Kimmy plays great music and has new equipment that is well maintained. There are also a number of other classes including yoga and dance, which I still need to try. Some of the studio classes are also on Classpass so it's an easy way to try a new class. Overall, highly recommend this studio and cannot say enough about the wonderful owner. read more

I love this studio!!!! For so many reasons!!! ::heart emoji:: After trying out a handful of studios around Brooklyn and Manhattan, I somehow stumbled upon this neighborhood spot and found it to be a sparkling gem. I have mostly taken classes with Kimmy and Natalie who are both positive, inspiring and friendly instructors. I am pretty sure they are always smiling and smiles are contagious, making the work outs really fun -- I've never been so motivated and happy to feel the burn haha. The studio is clean and beautiful while it maintains a down to earth, unpretentious vibe. The classes are a nice small size and there is a good variety of music in rotation, rather than a constant fist pumping edm / house soundtrack. Most importantly, I love that the culture here is about pushing your body rather than punishing it for results through a well-rounded variety of classes. I have yet to find an exercise routine that whips me into shape as effectively and quickly as Pilates Reformer. So far I've taken about 6 reformer classes here and have loved how challenging they were and how informed the instructors are. I took the yoga+core mat class once, but didn't think it was challenging enough on my core, so I'll probably just stick to the reformer classes at this studio. It's incredibly expensive, but worth the investment if you really want a true reformer class. I hope they offer better deals in the future so I can keep coming back. read more

Loved this studio! Took my first class there on Sunday, and initially had some trouble getting to the studio and thought I would miss my class. The bus I was taking to the studio broke down half way through, and I ended up waiting for another bus for 35 minutes. I knew I wasn't going to make the class, and was really worried that it was going to be $25 down the drain. When I explained the situation, the woman chatting to me (I never got a name) was really lovely, and told me that although I couldn't get a refund, but that I could pop into any other class and make up the class I missed. There was an open level class directly after the beginner class I signed up for, and I expressed concern that I would hold the class back as I was only a beginner. She assured me that the instructors are very patient and would give me modifications if I needed. She was right! My instructor, Christopher, was so sweet and patient. Helped me through everything I didn't understand, and as the class was only 3 people he was very attentive. I am thrilled with my experience here, and will definitely be buying a package soon! read more

Wow. Wow. Did I mention . . . WOW! I've had a painful and challenging hip injury for 10 years. I've tried countless methods of overcoming this injury, including surgery, yet nothing has gotten me there. After watching careful, asking questions and talking about the injury, in just 3 sessions, Kimmy has helped me make more progress on my hip than I had made in 10 years. i took cardio + condition this morning through classpass based on the great yelp reviews, and i wouldn't say it was a five star workout. the class was in a storefront, and it would be great if there were curtains or anything--i was on the end near the window, and it feels like a zoo when people look in as they pass. the class is split into two halves, cardio and conditioning, but the "cardio" part was just a routine of six moves we went through over and over, which felt VERY boring and repetitive. worse, they weren't even challenging. the conditioning half was better, but i wouldn't take the class again. read more

I love this studio. Kimmy, the owner, is an incredibly skilled pilates teacher and has a great sense of humor. Since I joined last summer, she has opened up the studio to a larger variety of classes such as Cardio/Condition (take Natalie!) and Core Elements (check out Leslie & Christina!). There are plenty of options time and class-wise throughout the week, making it easy to find a good fit for my schedule. I have definitely noticed results since joining, thanks to all of the wonderful instructors! I can't imagine being a part of any other studio, it's just that great. read more

I took my first mat pilates class today and loved it! The studio staff is so welcoming and accommodating - I checked in with Sophie at the front desk and she gave me a quick studio tour and then Tina (the instructor) talked to me about what to expect out of class and asked what I was interested in working on during the class. She tailors each class to what her students are focused on that day. Classes in NYC can sometimes feel squished due to how small spaces are, but East River was spacious, clean and the ambiance is very relaxing. You can tell there are plenty of regulars because a number of people stayed to chat after class. The class itself was challenging - and it's been a while since I've done pilates, so I needed some posture work, but Tina was amazing with adjustments and gave people individual attention. Another ClassPass success! Took a yoga class here last week with Natalie and really enjoyed it (Although it was a little hard to find!). Only about 5 people in the 7AM I went to and I really felt like I had personal instruction. There was a little more extended meditation/mantras than I was used to, but overall I felt rejuvenated, stretched and most importantly, happy when I left the studio. After months of searching for a Pilates studio, I found this gem that offered a variety of classes at different times everyday. Perfect for a busy full-time working mom of 2 little girls to have options to choose from. From the first Pilates mat class I took, I got hooked and knew this was the perfect place I spent months looking for. Natalie's core elements class is awesome and I am super excited that she will now teach Wednesday evenings. I'm looking forward to taking her cardio & conditioning class again as it works perfectly with my schedule. Kimmy is another amazing Instructor. Her Mat Pilates class is amazing! And I love her choice of music. It's always upbeat and sets the tone for a great workout. My only wish is that she can teach an evening class at least once a week so I can attend her classes more. I really love this studio. I tried the mat pilates class out with Classpass and was pleasantly surprised since I was a little nervous having never taken a pilates class. The studio is simple and small but the staff is great. I have taken classes with Kerstin and Christopher- both of whom are funny and encouraging. The classes don't feel competitive with anyone but yourself and the instructors are gentle and encouraging. Would really recommend! read more

I think this place might convert me into a work out junkie. The space is gorgeous, some serious decorating expertise that is inviting yet luxurious. I didn't want to leave after class. I took a Sunday night mat class with Kate and the class had a perfect pace. I tend to have a wondering mind but Kate's tone and lingo had me calmly keeping up, she kept reiterating where our focus should be with a warm encouragement. I really really liked and felt like I got a great work out while my mind felt more spacious. There's a lot of care and good vibes here, I really love it. Just took a great reformer Pilates class here for the first time! Tina was the instructor, and she was fabulous. She knew exactly how to cue you into the right posture. The space is beautiful! This morning I attended one of Kimmy's classes for the first time. I adored her! The energy in her studio was uplifting and her attitude was so wonderful to be around. You can truly tell she loves what she does and cares about all her students. This place rules. I love the mat class, but generally I take Core Fusion or Cardio & Conditioning with Natalie. She is amazing! Kimmy is great as well. I have taken Stretch & Lengthening class too, it was just what I needed that day. You will get a great class in no matter which one you take. Very friendly spot. read more
