Updating from a 2015 review. We noted how much we loved the atmosphere in the 10 years...well now…read moreit's been 20 years that we make a point to dine here, specifically on our anniversary. It's where we dined on our honeymoon and we'll be coming back for years to come. We stopped in a couple of times on this trip. The good - The smokehouse food is just what it should be! I mean, we really love this food. The first Cherry Old Fashioned. Made with care and good ingredients. The Meh - The service on Taco Tuesday. It felt understaffed and the server commented, "at least I'm not alone tonight". Very telling The Bad - The second Cherry Old Fashioned on a different night. Not good. It was Taco Tuesday and the Smokehouse felt understaffed. The drinks were just slammed together.

I ordered nachos, thought that was a safe bet! Supposed to be smoked chicken and cheese sauce…read more These were honestly the worst nachos I've ever had. The fresh chips were nice and the pico was good but the combo of veiny, bony chunks of dry chicken with the sweet BBQ sauce and sour "cheese" made it inedible. I really wanted to like this place it's a great location and fun drive, the patio was beautiful, great beer selection and the service was excellent. Maybe the nachos are just a bad item and they have other good stuff. I wouldn't give it another try unless to grab a beer.

This place was packed on a Friday night. The man handling drinks and host duties was on it. We had…read morea bit of a wait to get seated at the bar, but understandable on a packed night. Husband and I split the 3 meat plate (although we were tempted by the special-beef ribs on mashed potatoes). We had brisket (good and my favorite), pork ribs (fall off the bone good and tasty), pork belly (hubby said it was good since it isn't my thing). For our sides we had collard greens (we fought over those they were so good), bacon Mac (creamy and smokey), and corn bread (so glad we each had our own serving of that or there would have been bloodshed). That cornbread was the best I have had at a restaurant in ages. Staff were on it. They were personable and friendly. Kitchen staff--wow. It was awesome to watch the magic and teamwork happening in the very small wizard's workshop. Thank you for the great night and the leftovers.

So, I really don't know why people come here. Maybe we got unlucky but let's run it from the start…read more Upon entering, the place does look very cool. It almost feels like you're in a mineshaft or an antique store, which I thought was awesome. We are immediately greeted with a very friendly smile and told there were seats at the bar (the restaurant was packed, another good sign). A few minutes go by and we're still standing at the check-in, and another couple comes in. They are greeted in the same way, offered seats at the bar, and are thusly ushered to their seats... while we were still standing there. Okay, few more minutes go by and we call out the table that was just cleaned, and we get seated. The menu looks phenomenal, and we ended up getting the meat combo to try everything. This is where it gets even worse. The barbecue itself took a while to get to our table, which would be fine if it wasn't cold. Yes, you heard correctly, the barbecue was all cold. Baked beans had to have been Bush's. Potato salad and Mac was good, same with the cornbread. But the main things we paid $60 for were cold. The ribs were beyond burnt, and the brisket was tough. Oh, and the single sausage we got was slathered in mustard and barbecue sauce, come to think of it everything on the plate was slathered in barbecue sauce. Usually not a good sign lol. I really wish I could say nicer things about this place but I unfortunately cannot recommend it to anyone. But hey, they're packed so maybe that's just the quality of the food around Kalispell. If I could give Don less than one star I would. Dropped off over 200 lbs of meat this past fall…read moreand Don told me it would take a few weeks to get it processed. That seemed reasonable, so a few weeks later I checked back and he said it wasn't finished. A couple more weeks go by and I checked in again and he said it wasn't finished because he had a bunch of hunters from California who he put at the front of the line so they wouldn't have to ship their meat to their home. A couple more weeks and I checked in again, only to get the same answer... out of state hunters went to the front of the line so they didn't have to ship their meat home. Checking in several times later over the next couple months and his responses were things like he had to focus on "party platters" for Christmas, New Year's, someone's birthday party, etc., etc. Always some lame excuse as to why he hadn't gotten to our meat. So after nearly five months of this nonsense we went back and asked if our meat was done. Again, no. (Shocker...) Okay we said, then give it back to us right now and we'll take it somewhere else. He then had the audacity to tell is to come back for it later, to which we said, "No, that's not convenient and we'd like it all back right now." He uttered a profanity and then went into his freezer to get our meat, which had been stored in ripped trash bags! I don't even know yet how much will be lost to freezer burn. Based on all the similar stories and other bad reviews on Google I guess I shouldn't be surprised, but this guy is a shocking disappointment. Recommend you stay FAR away from this place and take your game anywhere else to be processed.

But good luck ever actually getting your meat back. After 4 months of waiting on the meat I dropped off and countless phone calls checking on the status. I eventually had to go get the meat and bring it to a different butcher. Then I found out 1/3 of the meat was completely freezer burnt from being improperly stored. And even worse the meat that Don gave me back was not mine, and a different kind of game all together. No surprise, that meat was even more freezer burnt from improper storage. So after all of that, I have very little of the meat I started with and it wasn't even mine or even the correct species. Go anywhere other than Don's Country Smokehouse. Do a little research and you will find some awful reviews that are almost hard to believe. But now, I bet they are true. Hopefully someone reads this review and is spared the awful experience that I and many others have had.
