We just went by the reviews here while trying to find a restaurant on the way and kalispell was mid way to our destination. Boy the reviews don't lie! This was our best pick! It boasts of barbecue style sandwiches and menu and this place was packed on a Friday at 3pm! Hosts looked like are the owners of the place made every effort to go above and beyond to seat the guests and look after them. They have the bar seating facing the kitchen where we occupied the last 2 seats remaining in the restaurant getting the live action right in front of us. We ordered the PBJ (pork belly jelly bites) and brisket cheese steak sandwich with jalapeno mac n cheese on the side. Both the dishes were amazing and we will surely stop by here again when in the area. The whole sassy sandwiches section look like a must try. Only thing we will try to avoid here is the desserts that were not bad at all but because we saw them being made in front of us now we know it is just assembled we may not order more of that. We got the huckleberry peach cobbler and banana pudding. Both the dishes aren't really made from scratch and had we not seen how they're assembled we may not judge it too harshly. read more

Server Kaylee G was horrible. I can see she's overworked and overwhelmed, and even though she took forever to get to us every time and it was impossible to flag her down making our meal last 2.5 hours when we're on limited time on our trip, I tried to be really nice to her, when I made simple, normal requests, she gave me an unsmiling look and made me feel very uncomfortable. I think she needs more training in service. The owners were very nice and exemplified what I think service should be. The bacon mac was not good and rather flavorless. Mac & cheese is one of the benchmarks of a good BBQ place. Collard greens I think had BBQ sauce? making them very tangy and not good at all, almost inedibly sour for me. They tasted better the next day mixed with other things. Elk sausage came smothered in more BBQ sauce and mustard. I wish these were on the side so that I could control how much sauce was on there. Cornbread seemed good but if I really looked at it, the cornbread was rather bland and the server instructed us to put honey on it. Well anything is good when you pour honey & butter over it. So, I really don't know why people come here. Maybe we got unlucky but let's run it from the start. Upon entering, the place does look very cool. It almost feels like you're in a mineshaft or an antique store, which I thought was awesome. We are immediately greeted with a very friendly smile and told there were seats at the bar (the restaurant was packed, another good sign). A few minutes go by and we're still standing at the check-in, and another couple comes in. They are greeted in the same way, offered seats at the bar, and are thusly ushered to their seats... while we were still standing there. Okay, few more minutes go by and we call out the table that was just cleaned, and we get seated. The menu looks phenomenal, and we ended up getting the meat combo to try everything. This is where it gets even worse. The barbecue itself took a while to get to our table, which would be fine if it wasn't cold. Yes, you heard correctly, the barbecue was all cold. Baked beans had to have been Bush's. Potato salad and Mac was good, same with the cornbread. But the main things we paid $60 for were cold. The ribs were beyond burnt, and the brisket was tough. Oh, and the single sausage we got was slathered in mustard and barbecue sauce, come to think of it everything on the plate was slathered in barbecue sauce. Usually not a good sign lol. I really wish I could say nicer things about this place but I unfortunately cannot recommend it to anyone. But hey, they're packed so maybe that's just the quality of the food around Kalispell. We came because this place has great reviews. Was hungry and excited but unfortunately the food didn't meet our expectations. First off, the service was great. The cornbread was great and the beans were good. The brisket and pulled pork were not good. Maybe Montana BBQ standards are lower than the rest of the country but again, I was hopeful because of the high reviews this place had. The collard greens and slaw were also not that great. Came here with a few friends while we were in Kalispell. This place gets hectic and really busy! Be ready to wait it out but make sure you stick around for your table. We were told it was about an hour wait which almost made us leave but we grabbed some beers and sat on their patio. It took around 45 actual minutes which wasn't too bad. We ordered 2 backed potatoes with brisket, nachos with brisket (nachos can easily feed 2-3) a few orders of corn bread, salmon plate with potato salad and Mac n cheese. Food was good! Brisket was awesome, potatoes were good, cornbread was moist not dry and the butter seemed home made. The decor is interesting, kwirky. This place has a personality of its own. The owner was out there hustling helping around. This place was so good we almost came back twice but there was more to explore. From out of state, all the way from Florida and so enjoyed this little spot! For an appetizer, we got the Pork belly "PBJ" bites and they were amazing! Elk hot dog very good - not greasy - bun softly brown along with a side of collard greens - what a choice rather than 'usual fries' - although we did get ex side of bacon mac and cheese - wonderful cream dish of love. Like this place probably is buzzing for drinkers on weeknights and weekends. Ordered the Beef Brisket Plate, with a side of Their Popular Collard greens w/pork, and potatoe salad. This meal also came with a side of Two pieces of Corn bread and whipped butter. Bonus points. Brisket: little to no Smokey flavor, and not much seasoning. Not as fall apart as Texas style bbq if I can compare. Came out warmish. Not hot. Potato salad: Topped with green onions, seasoned well and delicious Collard Greens: Now this... this was the star of the show. The side... Tangy and Slightly sweet like honey almost. Amazing blend of complimenting flavors and large chunks of pork, yumm. The corn bread was a nice bonus, not crusty but airy and just right. Not hot though I might add. The whipped butter made up for the spreadabilty factor tho. Washed everything down with a delicious local Soda pop made with Huckleberry, which Montana is known for. In summary: for me? My hubby got the brisket platter with classic coleslaw and smoked veggies. My ribs were good but all the sides lacked flavor. We love coleslaw and left most of ours after a couple bites. Sadly the brisket was so bland and tasted like boiled meat. What went well? Everything! First of all, the venue is very cool! It's filled with rustic/tool shed/saloon vibes. It *feels* like the Wild West. We were greeted by a very nice hostess that was able to seat us right away! Our server was more than accommodating and was timely in all our orders and requests (new napkins, etc). I think I'll need to go back several times this trip so I can try everything in the menu! Literally every item sounded (and smelled) delicious! The kitchen is open in the same room too, so that was neat. Also, they have GF buns for substitution, and they are really good! Everything on the menu is GF (or GF substitutable) The beer selection isn't big, but it's quality - tasty brews from local MT breweries. This place was packed on a Friday night. The man handling drinks and host duties was on it. We had a bit of a wait to get seated at the bar, but understandable on a packed night. Husband and I split the 3 meat plate (although we were tempted by the special-beef ribs on mashed potatoes). We had brisket (good and my favorite), pork ribs (fall off the bone good and tasty), pork belly (hubby said it was good since it isn't my thing). For our sides we had collard greens (we fought over those they were so good), bacon Mac (creamy and smokey), and corn bread (so glad we each had our own serving of that or there would have been bloodshed). Visited on a Tuesday evening around 6 and it was pretty full but I was seated quickly at a table fashioned out of a stop sign. The menu had several categories and a variety of options. I choose a Chicken Sandwich with a side of their Cajun Vinaigrette Slaw. The bun was fresh and the chopped smoked chicken was so good I didn't even put any sauce on it. I see plenty of great reviews for this place, so we decided to try it. I ordered the brisket sandwich with slaw, a side of beans, and added the cornbread, I love cornbread. Well the brisket was disappointing, it was dry and didn't have much of a flavor other than the bbq sauce that was covering it. Not to mention my slightly burned bun, made it all dryer. The beans are very sweet, it threw me off, I thought they would be more savory, I couldn't eat more than a bite. I never got my cornbread, although I saw our waitress, bring "free" cornbread to the table next to us. The cornbread was still on the check, so I had to have them take it off. She was very nice and apologetic about it. We ordered the huckleberry cheese cake to go, we ate it for dessert that night and it was really good. Not too sweet, just right. read more

We are visiting Kalispell on a vacation trip with friends and needed dinner. Yelp suggested the DeSoto Grill so we gave it a try and, boy are we glad we did! Rob, the manager, greeted us outside and immediately took bus under his wing. One of our party has some mobility challenges and Rob made sure he and we were well taken care of. Our food was excellent and the staff was awesome! When we mentioned a food allergy, our server went above and beyond to help ensure we were taken care of. The brisket, the pork belly and the pulled pork were awesome and the sides were all amazing. Service 10/10 Food selection was not overdone and had something for everyone. We sat outside but inside was old school country diner vib. The food was amazing.
