my husband is here and actually developed a new addiction to pills they crush up the psych pill Effexor and snort it , and what it is. If you look it up on Google it has the same effect as cocaine and other stimulants like speed, he admitted this to me but only because he had to pay some people back for the pills that he got fronted so therefore I had to foot the bill ive complained several times and complained everything to them exactly the way he told me all they say is is resources are there to participate They had to be willing But with people with mental health issues? I was trying to stress them was sometimes some people have really bad issues and they need help just getting started maneuver towards the right direction just cause they're there. Doesn't mean you stop helping. Some of them still need a little bit of a push. I was told he would get rehabilitated and know he's gonna come out with a new Addiction. read more

Place is full of black mold, they have assigned bunks that are underneath leaking exhaust vents and you will get sent back to county if you're not in your assigned bunk so your forced to sleep in a wet bed, multiple inmates were beaten and sent to the ER even though it's only a 90 day program, they do not give access to the phone system for the first 2-3 weeks making it hard to contact your family and let them know where you are or if you're safe, almost little to no access to commissary, irregular food schedules, inmate taught classes, the workers, teachers, and guards, smuggles stuff in knowing that the people have addiction issues, forged training documents by the instructors for classes that were never taught, lack of response for medical request, and the CO's and their commanding officers that love yelling, cussing at, and disrespecting individuals who are supposed to be in a rehab program to control their anger and cognitive and behavioral functions when they can't control their own. It was not a safe location. Positive- The religious programs are great and some of the CO's and teachers actually care. The program helped a lot of guys get their GED and for the longer programs it helped people get some other life skills. read more

This is a review for when your loved one leaves this facility and goes to a half-way house. My son went to the half-way house in Corpus Christi Texas. He got one phone call to let me know that he was there. He had no money to use the payphone. He used a roommate cell phone to call me. The roomate agreed to let me sent money to him. My son never got the money. The facility threw my son out when he confronted the roomate. They did not do any investigation. The police who came to get my son was also notified; they did not do any investigation. I filed a report with Corecivic. The half-way house told Corecivic that no cell phones are allowed at their facility. Please call the half-way house when your loved one goes there and find out what are their rules and regulations. I don't want anyone to go through what I am going through. read more

I went her about 8 months ago it's definitely not a rehab facility the "classes" are just bullshit and you can't really learn anything because the other inmates don't care either. It was all done on a screen. The counselor was hardly ever in the dorm with us unless she was there to be rude and embarrass us. We had to sign a couple different papers every day saying we were in class. When I did hear parts of the groups they never corresponded to the papers we signed for our attendance. And the supposedly leaders we had that were other inmates did not care either they just wanted to look good for the probation officer. The food was absolutely horrible and never on a scheduled time so some days we'd eat lunch at 10, or 11, or 1:30,or even 5 very inconsistent then to top it off the first month we did not have access to commissary until a month after I had gotten there I also couldn't get a hold of my family for quite a few weeks and had no information to even give them to let them do anything to help me with commisary. The place doesn't automatically provide you with the supplies you need except for toilet paper and soap. The cos working there treated everyone like shit majority of them were very rude to us and did not care. They definitely did not treat us like we were in a rehab program but as if we all have committed murder or something. As a female in the facility I noticed men were able to do way more thing like even go outside everyday where we had to sit in our dorms all day everyday. In the 90 days I was there we were allowed outside was a total of 3 times. Not cool At one point we did have 10 fights in a week and a girl slice her wrists all in the same week. They also did not do anything about the girls having sex with each other in the beds I could honestly go on and on about my experience. My boyfriend was sent here 2 weeks ago exactly and I haven't been able to come in contact with him at all. No phone call whatsoever. You can't put money on commissary unless you're approved by the facility. How long does that even take? It's been 2 weeks and I STILL can't put money on there for my boyfriend to buy any of the essentials. This facility does not provide inmates with any of the essential items when they get there. This place is a complete scam!!! They need to be shut down. They receive money from the state and they are supposed to be rehabilitating these young men and women, but they are doing absolutely nothing!!! My son is forced to sign a form at the end of each day saying that he went to class. My son said he didn't want to sign it because there was no class. They said if he didn't sign it he would get kicked out and refused the program then sent back to his county to go before the Judge. He is only getting 2 sandwiches a day, peanut butter and jelly or bologna. If he's lucky he might get some chips. The is no group therapy nor counseling sections. The counselor only comes at the end of the week to pick up all the forms saying they have been to classes all week. This is total bullshit!!!!!! The guards are never around and inmates are fighting and steeling from other inmates. Yesterday my son waited in line for commissary for 6hours and they closed and said they would come back the next day. He stood in line today from 10am till 3:30 waiting for commissary and the lady never showed up to open. Last week my son sent all his socks, shirts and boxers in his mesh bag in to be laundered and never got it back. The guards didn't care. This makes me so angry because now he has to go buy all that stuff again. I could go on and on and on. The state pays this facility $35,000 per inmate and the facility does absolutely nothing that they are supposed to be doing!!!! I can't give this place a star but I have to in order to post this. I spent last summer there (from May 11, 2023-Aug. 8, 2023) and I have to say it's a complete joke and I'm surprised the place hasn't been shut down honestly. When I got there the whole place was on lockdown, which happens and that wasn't a big deal. However, the lockdown lasted for a month after I got there during which time a new Warden had been transferred there from the Kyle unit, if I understand correctly. She seemed okay, but seemed to have walked into a buzzsaw. Apparently the previous warden was let go for "fraternization with an inmate". I don't know the validity of that, but that's what was going around. Anyway, during my time there the first month was spent entirely in the pod because of the lockdown with no group sessions at all, We didn't go to commissary until after a month and it was only ran, at least for my dorm C-8, four times my entire 90 days there. I didn't get an inmate number for phone usage until I only had three weeks left there. (You can't use the phones until securus comes and gives you a number and has you set up your "voice recognition".) All of that pales in comparison to a few things I personally witnessed or was a victim of. In one instance, there were apparently two guys from the same town who had beef with each other and made it loudly obvious during chow after which the hall SGT. I repeat. The hall SGT. LET 2 GUYS FROM ANOTHER TANK INTO MY TANK SPECIFICALLY TO JUMP THE GUY WITH THE BEEF WHO WAS IN MY TANK!!!!. She let them in, stood at the door for a while looking out for the captain and after the guy in my tank was knocked out on the ground by the bathrooms, she said "Alright fellas! wrap it up and let's get you back to your dorm".....what the hell is that? not only should she be fired, but arrested...Anyway, one other instance I'll give as an example is various other types of harassment. I personally was harassed by way of coming out of the chow hall on more than one occasion when a particular female C.O. called me out claiming I was hiding and trying to sneak oranges back to the dorm. I was taken to the medical hallway by her and another female c.o. she grabbed and I was strip searched by female c.o.'s. This happened on more than one occasion that started with the first one who would always grab another random female c.o. to witness before it evolved to where it was happening almost every day by other female c.o.'s and it was always the same little group of 5 female guards whose rank ranged from c.o. to captain...This place is a complete mockery of the justice system and if anything, just releases their "clients", which we were supposed to be instead of inmates which we actually were, in a worse state of mind than when they went in or probably than they've ever been. Also, I had to wait in county jail for 101 days before they came to get me and prior to that, the crime that I was charged with happened three years prior. The whole time I was out on bond after spending 90 days after my arrest, had a job where I was thriving and advancing, was getting my s*** together financially after everything and was coerced into probation because my wife was being threatened by MY COURT APPOINTED DEFENSE ATTORNEY; Edwyn Matias!!! Who took her into a private conference room without me for about 30 minutes. She left the room crying and wouldn't tell me exactly why. Edwyn brought me into the same room to tell me that he strongly advised me to sign for probation, when I was going to be taking it to trial because I am still not guilty. He gave me no real reason why, but he made it obvious that if we went to trial he would see to it that the prosecution would win and I should sign for probation for "my wife's sake" whatever that meant. My point is, all that took place over 3 years, I was doing well in my life with my wife and as a result of all that, not only can I not get my job back, but I can't get a job hardly anywhere. None of the places I'd applied and been a top candidate for, would hire me because of that and there were about close to 20 employers who wanted to proceed....Bottom line. The whole situation has destroyed not only my life, but my wife's and my families lives have been greatly affected by the whole situation and this place being the subject of this review, destroyed part of who I am after going through what I went through and being forced to not say anything and that wasn't even the worst of what went on. Others had it even worse!!! This place and the entire process along with a few certain people in particular; i.e. Judges, prosecutors, and attorneys need to be completely done away with and even have charges brought to them. I believe at least a couple of the parties involved with my case have actually had charges brought up for other matters which speaks to the gravity and degree of the corruption. The case was in Hays county by the way and the parties involved. Thank you for taking my life, dignity, and livelihood away from me and necessitating actual therapy for me. read more

Rude, cut me off mid-sentence when calling for information when my son was transferred to this facility. Inmate was almost killed while my son was doing 90-days rehabilitation at facility. Inmate was beaten so severely by other inmates... I cannot understand how guards are unaware of such a severe beating taking place that it continues to the brink of death... Punishment is placed upon every person who resides in the rehabilitation facility and all tv, commissary, and every other possible privilege is revoked!! My son has a medical condition that was being treated with medication, urologist, and catheter while in Bexar County Detention Facility for 101 Days prior to Henderson... then, he cannot pee on demand... and is given an additional 30 days to his time!!! He appealed and explained!! His pee test came out clean when he could pee later that evening... Their response..."we have all the medical records we need ".. Ryan's Grandfather died August 10th & he was supposed to be released August 15th & funeral is August 28th! The new RELEASE DATE IS SEPTEMBER 15th!! His Grandfather is like his FATHER!! His father is not in his life! His Grandfather was 92 & always PUSHING RYAN TO WORK HARD & get his LIFE ON TRACK!! I haven't broken my father's death to Ryan yet... it will devastate him when he knows he will not be able to say a proper GOODBYE because of his own actions! read more

Every time I call to check on a loved one I am treated as if I am an inmate and I did something wrong. They are very rude and not willing to be as helpful as they could be. Not to mention if you have a loved one at this facility. Nothing will get done on time. My loved one has been waiting for over 60 days just to get voice recognition to make a call home! if there's one thing, this place can work on it certainly being polite to the families of the incarcerated. and I can understand the need for a stern structured environment, but why be rude to us too? read more

Every negative review in here is accurate. This place is a joke, a complete waste of government funding and tax payers money!! They literally do not give 2 shits about real rehabilitation, they just want to get you in and out to keep the funding coming in. The facility staff are incompetent, the warden included. To the point they aren't capable of even doing a head/bunk count accurately, to order enough dinner for every individual. They don't have any type of structure or routine, other than turning on a tv at a certain time and shutting off their tablets at 12am on the dot. They walk away from breaking up fights. They aren't giving adequate serving sizes of food with meals, and find any and every excuse to put them on restriction from commissary and outside time. No wonder tensions are high in there, when they are starving grown adults, fights are gonna happen. In NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM IS THIS A FACILITY FOR ANY KIND OF TREATMENT. All inmates are treated like animals I understand some may go to the consequences from their actions but the guards talk to them with the most disrespect and the inmates cannot say anything or they will get written up and if they get written up they have to go back to court and can get a longer sentence on top of that they only go to commissary once a month and are given a limit of $100 or less only around December the holidays they can spend $100 other than that it's 70 the guards do not pay enough attention as there is a lot of funny business going on with inmates taking advantage of other inmates if you even try to get in contact with anyone they are very rude if they answer the phones they even hung up the phone one time I have reached out and left voicemail after voicemail to the warden and got no response at as they do not care only for the money that continues to go into this facility this treatment center needs to be shut down or have better care and or a lot better observation on the inmates as these are family members to others they treat them like they are nothing and they basically have no voice and if you try to set up the phone it takes more than 2 weeks to get approved and if you send a ecomm it takes longer than 3 weeks when it says two but that is not true also they are supposed to be giving a tablet but that takes months so to get in contact with your loved ones being in this facility is almost impossible and as far as even being safe in there you will never know but this is not a safe place for your loved one to be read more

My husband has been there since the probation officer and the judge sent him there on August 1, 2023, for a total of 180 days, although they no longer have the 180 day program, only a 90 days one. The things that he has told me make me feel all kinds of emotions from anger, sadness, and confusion and utter helplessness! I was hoping he would at least get some counseling or treatment of some sort, but from what I was told, they come into the dorm, have a seat with a stack of papers and tell them where to sign, and if they don't sign saying that they had therapy or something, the person with the stack of papers will forge the inmate's signature! What is that telling our guys? It's telling them that they can go to jail for forgery but TDCJ persons can do anything they want to even if it's illegal! But that's not the only thing; they are 200 guards understaffed and therefore nobody is available when somebody across the way is dying of a heart attack and might have been saved if it had not taken so long to get a guard's attention! I received an email from another inmate today that was dated for the 9th, and it was very short and cryptic and said that he was told by my husband to use his emergency stamp to contact me if he didn't come back and I understand that he had been gone since the previous night but no matter who I talked to, I can't get any answers, and I have been freaking out all afternoon and I'm still freaking out! read more

If I was able to give MTC East Texas Treatment Facility 0 stars I would. I was recently released on January 9th and couldn't be more happy to leave. To start off when you first arrive you are given absolutely no hygiene products, everything must be bought of commissary. And you are not allowed to set up voice recognition until you are given a lay in to the west gym when securus is there which is rare. I wasn't able to set mine up until my 63rd day out of my 90 day sentence. And when it comes to the lay ins the facility gives to new "clients" as the counselors call us it can be any time from 1am to 5pm, and when you tell the guard you have a 1am lay in they proceed to say whoever the lay in is address to is not there so you are forced to stay up for no reason. Then they proceed to serve breakfast at 5-6am so you are running on basically no sleep because the pod is up 24/7. Then you are "required" to get up at 7am for self run group until 11am which almost no one in the pod attends then the whole pod gets punished because the rules are not enforced. And that isn't even the start the mats that are given are as thin as paper and the only way to receive foam is by taking some from a inmate that is being released. And when it comes to the bathroom and walls there is black mold everywhere, anyone who is new automatically get sick within the first week because their immune system is not able to handle the mold on the walls and in the vents. Finally when it comes to receiving fresh air you are only allowed outside for rec which is either at 7am if you are a Maroon or TDC client and 4pm if you are a Yellow or St. Pete client for 1 hr a day, so the other 23 is spent in a mold infested 54 man pod with no contact to the outside world unless you got lucky with securus and was able to set up phone before you got released. read more

My wife is there at the moment and she calls and writes to me every day, and the things that are happening there , should not be happening,I don't know why this place is even called a treatment facility. The way they are treating them ,to the way they are being housed, fed.. I wouldn't want any of you to ever be sent to this place,they aren't given any hygiene products when they get there,it really dirty not sutablabe to live in,they are only fed twice a day cabbage and Lima beans and cornbread are introduce in any way or form in there daily consumption meaning anything you can think of mixed with those three things , everything is sold to them,even feminine products for the lady's.so if you don't have any money coming they are forced to do what ever they canto get what they need. This is where the problems start,you have a situation where you need to do what ever you can to servive this turning normal people into doing things they would never normally do. Changing there way of thinking and reacting to prison life , there aren't getting "treatment" they are being trained to be inmates , it should be the other way around, helping them with their addictions and how to be productive members of society, not what is happening there .I truly hope someone in a higher position reads this and help the unfortunate people that re being wrongfully placed in this hell hole. read more

I was sent here in December of 2018 and placed in a dorm with about 50 other inmates. The second I walked in the dorm all these other prisoners rushed to help me get settled and I'm guessing it was because I was the oldest one in there. I was paw paw to everyone. They all had my back. Bloods, Mexican Mafia and Arian Brotherhood all took me in. A very humbling experience. The counselors, however, were the worst in the history of counselors. They'd tear you down and keep you there daily. The guards were great though. I was Skool to the majority of them and the meanest toughest female guard just loved me to death for some reason. In the chow hall they didn't give you anytime to eat unless you were lucky enough to sit at the slow eating table and they put toothless 'ol paw paw there on my second day. The head guard didn't even wait for me to get a doctor's request. He put me there and announced to the other guards that was where I belonged and to not censored with me. There were 3 or 4 occasions from the others during our groups that I'll remember forever. I never preached at anyone or gave unsolicited advice, I just led by example and it was noticed and admired from all races. Huge racial tension after an outspoken biggot kept saying the N word right to the black guys faces and 5 Bloods beat him down severely. It didn't effect me at all, I hung out with everyone and had no backlash or any ramifications from any group. Near the end I was unofficially voted the "Realest n__ga in the dorm and got a standing ovation until the counselor threw a fit. I never want to go back to lockup but that experience was very uplifting and truthfully a positive one for me in a strange way. read more

This facility has more problems and issues that are too numerous to mention. These inmates were sent here to receive some rehabilitation training and are being paid by the State of Texas, but due to Covid they are housed in areas with 50+ women and are not given enough cleaning supplies to keep it clean and yes the inmates do the cleaning (no mops and one broken broom). They are fed at ridiculous hours and given their meds at different times each day or not at all. On the weekends they only receive 2 meals a day, breakfast at 3:30 a.m. and the evening meal at 3:30 p.m. in the afternoon. They don't have access to an emergency button the one they have does not work and emergencies that have occurred within the unit are the inmates screaming and banging on windows to get help. These have been real emergencies. These are inmates that are in minimum security facility and are not hardened criminals. They get no outside time or sunshine at all. They now have several cases of Covid within the facility and until now they were never taking temperatures. This place is horrible and these inmates have no arbitrator. This is Texas and TDJC takes care of its inmates (hard core felons) so much better then this private run facility which is paid by TDJC to facilitate treatment and rehabilitation courses that's why they were sent there. I understand they have broken the law and need to pay for their crimes but to use them just to get paid with no regard for their safety and health. If they get anything a family member provides funds so they can get personal hygiene products or they survive with a small bar of soap and toothbrush. If they are indigent that's all they receive. The Governor should be made aware how these prisons are being run and investigate this place. They are not at all being rehabilitated just treated like they are not human. read more

Well, I it helps any... Our son is 23 and has been there now for half his time! I love his attitude and he has totally changed and literally said, "Mom... This has been really good for me! I am a different person, a better person now and was on the wrong path! I have learned so much and have a NEW found appreciation for life in general!" Personally, we had lost him. He did not have a problem with drugs but they have taught him to learn how to control his anger. He is wanting to go to church now! NEVER has this been! It has been a horrible battle with his inter demons so I CAN'T TELL YOU how wonderful it is hearing him say this! I thought we had lost him! Not the case! This brought him closer to us! Maybe bc he also has us going to see him! BUT... His dad and I got divorced a couple years back with a bad divorce so he stayed at his dad's bc he worked with him so of course his dad had a lot of anger from me leaving and literally turned him against my entire family and I. Really Bad! So, this has been a God sent help bc I didn't know how to fix it! He said he actually doesn't mind it there and foods better tasting that the jail! lol But... His entire attitude has been positive when we speak to him and can see a changed person without hate! Without reviews on here it scared me bc he is my baby so I thought I'd leave a message in case others needed a good review! Kind of play on Group bonding with counselling and anger which I don't know what kid doesn't have those issues on top of other problems! So I give it two thumbs up... ETTF is a privately operated ISF, Special Needs SAFP, DWI unit. It's a prison of course, they food and conditions reflect that. They do offer a good chance at Counseling that helps many turn around if they want to. The unit offers faith based programs and AA in addition to CBT. I think these numbers are off a bit I was told 1850 men and 324 women DWI: 500 (male) SAFP: 336 (male)ISF: 1,400 (224 female / 1,176 male). Left this hell hole about a month ago. I never thought I would like to see a TDCJ prison again until I got to ETTF. The place sucks big time. Food, medical, and the staff are the worse I have encountered. If you don't have commissary money then you will be hungry for 7 months. The medical is also terrible. I was there for 3 weeks before receiving blood pressure meds.The guards and the counselors are always at each other. Back stabbers. Any I 60's or complaints about the place will never leave the unit. We were supposed to be treated with respect but that never happens. The counselors are always creating chaos among the dorms. I am not racist. With that I will say that if you are white or Hispanic you are screwed. 99% black employees.The only good I can tell you about the unit is AC in the summer. If you have a loved one there and he or she can endure the bulls**t then they have all of my respect. The TDCJ monitor that is there is a joke also. He does not do his job. I saw lots of complaints about the food and he did nothing. We are supposed to get 4oz servings of each food item. You can weigh your food tray before consuming and weigh it afterwards and it probably will only weigh 6 ounces less. Medical even worse. 2 people passed away while I was there. They both suffered strokes and medical sent them to the dorm to lie down. Go figure that one out. I will say that if your loved one complains about anything you should believe them. There is help thru an Ombudsman in Huntsville. If enough people complain something will be done. The Ombudsman address is on TDCJ web site.
