I've been coming to East Valley Dental Care for several years now. My visits have always been enjoyable (as enjoyable as a dentist appointment can be ). East Valley Dental Care has a small reception area where they offer free water while you wait. There are only a few rooms for patient visits so it feels like a more personal experience. Setting up appointments is super easy and they send you text notifications leading up to the appointment to confirm the date still works for you. I appreciate that they've never made me feel pressured to do any additional procedures. As long as my insurance is accepted here, I will keep coming back. read more

My review is missing stars, NOT because of the service, but insurance issues... I have been going to this office for many years now, and absolutely love it! I love the dentist himself, and the dental assistant. They are both so kind, they even remember details of my life, and of course do an excellent job with my cleanings and occasional additional care. I have attempted to refer everyone who even mentions needing a dentist (though the follow through doesn't happen as often as I want). In October our "benefits enrollment" was open, and although I usually choose Delta Dental, this was now the more expensive option, with Cigna coming up as the lesser price. I called the office to make sure whichever I chose would still be covered. I was told that this office takes both Cigna and Delta Dental, so I did choose the one that costs less (as I primarily just need my yearly X-rays and 6month cleanings). In January I went for my cleaning and forgot to show the updated card. They called to follow up, which I gave my Cigna card information. I then was told that there are actually 2 types of Cigna, and mine is not the one they cover. I explained that I had called to verify and that I was told it would be accepted, but apparently I didn't clarify if there are more than 1 type of plan available. I am a 32 year old nurse, who still needs help with insurance questions. I see the issues insurance causes holding people back from necessary things daily. I'm just disappointed that I called, asked for help, but was misinformed, which is now going to lead to bills and out of pocket charges just to come back. Again, I see this happen so often, and people don't know who to call and ask for help. I know to make sure to call since the person I'm putting the insurance claim will have more appropriate answers, yet that still didn't work as I clearly didn't know to ask if I had a specific category. Lesson learned. I'm sad my next dental appointment will be elsewhere so my insurance can cover it, and hope to one day come back to this office. read more

I can't tell you how appreciative I am to have found Dr Zuniga! I have suffered from extreme anxiety my entire adult life that is debilitating when it comes to dental visits. Over the past year I have had to have over 10 dental visits to repair a failed implant surgery and am proud to say that I no longer require meds to see Dr Zuniga. They are so caring and kind to me and their work is incredibly detailed and absolutely my finished implants are beautiful. I can smile non stop and eating is fun again! Update 2017-07-18 Wife went to dentist and they found the filling had CRACKED HER TOOTH. Not cool, back to 1 star. I received an email from Donna saying that they performed an audit of the charges per my original review below. Donna said in the email that they refunded the charges to my insurance company as she admitted it was incorrect. Although I have no proof of their refund to my insurance company I appreciate the kind apology and I trust they are making this right. I have improved my rating from 1 star to 3 for that. As mentioned in my original review, my 1 star rating was due to the dishonesty my wife experienced, not for Dr. Thompson's performance. If my wife and I come back to Dr. Thompson for dental work, I'm sure we would be given the same good treatment as we first did. Thank you Donna and Dr. Thompson. ORIGINAL REVIEW BELOW: I'd like to add my rating along with Regina F.'s review earlier. This review is not necessarily on the performance of Dr. Thompson, rather the dentistry's billing. My wife had some fillings done by Dr. Thompson that developed sensitivity afterwards. She set up a follow up to resurface the filling and after the visit left the office satisfied (as a side note: their scheduling is very inflexible, ie only open a few times a week, limited hours). This would have been an otherwise positive experience, HOWEVER (and yes, this is a big however), a few weeks later, we received a large bill for this visit (just under $100). The bill stated that the insurance company had paid their portion, and we were expected to pay the remaining difference. The charges had absolutely nothing to do with the filling (x-rays, consultation fee, etc). First of all, it is the Doctor's responsibility to ensure his work is sufficient. There were no x-rays taken. There was no additional work done, except to resurface the filling, which took 15min. My wife called the office and the billing lady stated that they "assumed" these services had been provided. She said she would "take my [wife's] word" and remove the charges. When asked how their office determines charges, she stated they schedule ahead of time what charges they anticipate. So, you're charging us for work that hasn't been done? In my opinion, this is absolutely dishonest, they get to keep my insurance's money, and apparently have been doing this to others for some time (Regina's review was back in 2014, it is now 2016). I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND A BUSINESS THAT IS NOT HONEST. THIS BUSINESS IS NOT HONEST IN THEIR BILLING, AND YOU'LL PAY FOR IT, LITERALLY. ps. he does have an office in Scottsdale, if you still insist of supporting dishonest businesses. read more

This is the first dentist I have been to in 6 years. I have obviously been avoiding the dentist for a while for a reason. Everyone at EVDC was able to make my first experience back pleasant and helped to overcome my dental fears. I am actually flossing for the first time in my life! I was so adamant that I wasn't going to go to the dentist that I opted out of my works dental insurance. Sheila, the front office manager, was able to work with me to arrange reasonable cash payments for my initial deep cleaning and subsequent routine cleanings. Definitely picking up dental insurance this year so that I can go back. Make sure to ask for Tracy (I believe this is her name) as your hygienist. She is great! They have late appointments available on Tuesdays as well. read more

As far as dentists go, Dr Thompson is probably the best I've seen. His whole staff is very personable and extremely helpful. I've got ridiculously sensitive teeth and generally have to be knocked out for any procedure, including cleanings. Dr Thompson understands this and works with you to do whatever it takes so that you feel comfortable. He's a great big giant of a man and can seem a little intimidating, but he really is a gentle giant. Blocks your view so you can't see the needle coming, talks to you to take your mind off the procedures. He and his staff always have your best interests at heart. I went in recently because of tooth pain in lower molar. I was given 3 options: root canal, extraction, filling. They ran my insurance and gave the costs of everything before we even decided on a method of action. One of the assistants came in and advised against the extraction, if possible, since it was a key tooth in terms of chewing. Dr Thompson made it clear that the filling may not work, but he could try it, but there was a possibility that it may turn into a root canal. I opted for the filling. Once again, he did a great job and I haven't felt any discomfort since. If you're in the market for a great dentist, especially if you have a phobia of the medieval torture that is dental care, I highly recommend Dr Thompson and his team. read more

I had a deep cleaning done there and have gone to a few other dentist in the valley before finding this one. I chipped a tooth when I was young and it stayed on for about 10 years. I broke it off here and after going to a few dentist it fell off about 4 more times in 6 months. I went to east valley and they fixed a prevous dentist's bad work for free. I ended up breaking it off 2 more times and they did a veneer for me. I admittedly had some issue with the temporary but this office was helpful in getting through it and rushed my permanent one. I had to go in about 5 times to get help but in the end now I have a perfect looking and feeling tooth. Percilia in the front office is VERY peppy and happy and helpful. She also is a skilled assistant ( I found out she helped me on a day there was no one in the office on fixing a tooth.) Good dentist are hard to find and I highly recommend them, they do a good job and care about their patiants. read more

Like many people, I'm not a fan of the dentist's office as I've had my fill of not-quite-numb-oh-you'll-be-fine procedures and pressure to get stuff done I can't afford or don't really need. This is not what this office does. I don't have perfectly straight, gorgeous, shiny white teeth (thanks genetics) but have never been pressured into braces or whitening or worse. I need a filling, I get a filling. I need a cleaning, I get a cleaning. I've also gotten my TMJ guard from him as well. The staff is great as is Dr. Thompson, very personable and never seen him not smiling. I just always feel comfortable in this down-to-earth office. Very highly recommended. read more

Dr Thompson practice by far is the best dentist I have ever been to. I moved to Arizona in 2001 and started going to East Valley Dental care and have never went anywhere else. Dr Thompson is the most caring amd compassionate dentist I have ever met. Tracey who is the dental hygienist is very caring and gentle also. Dr Thompson's assistant Raven is also very caring and gemtle with all procedures. I first started going to Dr. Thompson about 7 years ago. Back then it had been a very long time since my last visit to any dentist and I was nervous about how my experience with a new dentist would be. I was assured by Dr. Thompson that the most important thing was that I was on my way to dental health and that he would take good care of me. This office is great as long as they can make some money off of you. I was previously a patient here for several years and finally put forth the energy to find a new dentist. I think Dr Thompson does some shoddy work as I never had sensitivity in my teeth until I had him do my fillings. They are generally accommodating to get you back in when you tell them about the sensitivity but they never have fixed any problem I've had with their work. The final straw was when I went in for a "consultation" for a veneer that broke. Dr Thompson looked in my mouth for 2 minutes, never took any X-rays and then the front desk personnel pushed me into a room and gave me a quote of $8,900+ to fix my teeth. Two dentists since then have told me the quoted work is unnecessary. Then, they tried to charge me $106 for the consultation, including a charge for X-rays which they did not do. They told me the fee was because "Dr Thompson's time is valuable and we have to set up and tear down the room". I am still fighting the fees. Be very careful of this place and definitely get a second opinion before having any major work done. This place is a nightmare. read more
