Dr. Betsworth fixed me up with my first crown a couple months ago, and as nervous as I was, everything turned out great. I started bringing my teenager here too for routine dental cleanings. They have made her a Maryland bridge, and a custom made flipper until she's old enough to get a dental implant for a gap she has from where she lost a baby tooth but has no adult tooth to grow in. Now I have been to several dentist and did not like any of them. When I walked in everyone in the front office was very kind and friendly. When it was time for Dr Ward to see me he listened to what was going on with my tooth. He examined me and gave his suggestions on what I can do. I decided to get my cap on my tooth replaced. When I came back to get my permanent cap put on Dr Ward explained step by step what he was doing and why. I have never experience this with a dentist before. I really appreciated him doing that. Save your mouth and your wallet a lot of hassle and DO NOT GO HERE. I normally don't use caps lock in reviews as I feel it's a little dramatic but, I don't know how better than yelling from the rooftops. So, first off, they bribe their clients to give them five star reviews with a $25 starbucks gift card. At first, I was pleasantly surprised by how clean and nice their waiting room is. The nurses are very friendly and I was always in and out in less than 30 minutes each visit. In hindsight, that should have been my first red flag. -the dentist definitely rushes through the appointments. I never gave a review for the gift card because something about the dentist rubbed me the wrong way. He was pretty condescending. Now, it has been quite awhile since I'd been to the dentist. I had 8 cavities that needed to be filled. The first one he did was a tooth that had been sensitive for awhile. I felt a lot of pain while he was working on it and he seemed annoyed. "Can you hold on for a bit longer? I'm literally almost done." I tried but a few seconds later, it was too much. He let out a sigh and gave me two more shots of Novocain-or whatever is used to numb these days. One more would have done the trick. He was working in my bottom tooth and used so much that my eye was numb. Second red flag. Now I probably had five fillings done. I kept going because hey were quick and fairly cheap (we will come back to that). At one point I told him that every time I flossed between a certain tooth that was just filled, it was like electric pain throughout my whole body. He flossed a bit for me and told me "I'm not sure, looks fine to me." And then said they probably needed time to adjust. Okay, like I said, it's been awhile since I've been to the dentist. I also notice that he seemed to have really drilled down one of my molars to the point that when I closed my mouth, it doesn't touch the top tooth. It was at this point I silently made the decision to not go back. Flash to four months later, ANOTHER tooth he worked on started giving me trouble. I'm talking can't even chew on a piece of bread. I was drinking water today at work and the entire filling just fell out. So much pain. Kinda gross, but I want to let you know I'm telling the truth, so I'll post a photo. I don't think fillings should fall out four months later. Last but not least, I keep getting bills in the mail months later only to find out they messed up charging my insurance and I owe them a few hundred dollars. I went back to look at their reviews, sorted by lowest rating, and low and behold mishandling insurance and a condescending dentist and a mess up mouth are all over the reviews. I've been a patient here for many years, but had to go elsewhere due to a change in my coverage. During that time, I was very satisfied with the office personnel, environment (TVs on the ceiling were a huge perk), and of course the medical staff and the level of care. When I changed jobs a few years back, I was very happy to be able to use Tempe Dental as my provider again. An recent incident has forced me to rate this business negatively, due to an unprofessional experience. My wife and I had scheduled an appointment for the about a month in advance for the 31st. This morning, I recieved a confirmation text to which I replied "Yes", thereby confirming the appointment. However, later today I recieved apologetic text and voice-mail messages from Vanessa, saying that I'd need to reschedule the appointment, since the office was closed that day. Having had to make a number of arrangements to have this appointment possible made this more than a simple inconvenience, and was the main reason why I left my prior dentist. When I called to reschedule the appointment and get an explanation, I spoke to Lisa, who was not empathetic to our situation at all. I asked her why they both scheduled, and later confirmed the appointments, if the office was closed that day. She replied with some attitude that obviously they didn't know when they made the appointment that they'd be closed. When I pressed as to when they knew and the confirmation text I recied a few hours earlier, she tersely asked me if I wanted to reschedule, or not. That response gave me pause, and I replied "No. I had to take off work..." before she hung up on me. Now, I'm forced to reexamine my family's relationship with Tempe Dental. I realize they don't "need" my business. But, I'd remind Tempe Dental that I also don't need to give my money to people who don't care about me or my family. read more

My dentist was exceptional. However the front staff is consistently rude. I finally got dental insurance and i was looking forward to getting a cleaning, x-rays and filling my cavities I haven't been able to afford. They do not do cleanings and fillings. When trying to schedule for my 6 month visit for a cleaning and get reestablished as a patient, she told me she could not guarantee a cleaning. at my cleaning appointment. because the hour she booked me for may not be long enough due to "waiting on doctors." Why would the dentist want to look at my uncleaned teeth anyway? When i requested clarification she got rude and told me "this may not be the office for you." This place is a nightmare served up with a smile Obviously they pay to hide {almost all of} their terrible reviews. Extremely unprofessional dentist / hygienist / billing staff. I've been going to this place since Nov 2020 I do not recommend this place 0 out of 10 ! Brace yourselves! I've never even had an 'okay' experience on the 4 separate visits I've had here. They have all been odd, uncomfortable, sketchy and abusive. Yes!! Abusive! The hygienist who "doesn't work here anymore" tried to strike up a political conversation with me on my very first visit. The same hygienist who took care of my tooth cleaning. Never bothered to tell me that the upgraded cleaning service that he recommended was not covered by my insurance. When I came back for my root canal. Which I had absolutely ZERO pain. And the dentist Brandon Betsworth looked at my x-rays and HE even said I don't see an issue. He took my x-ray over again. It looked exactly the same as before. I suggested he do a different service that was in my treatment plan. Since there was no issue and I wasn't having any pain. Nope this guy asked me to open up. Then without any concern started drilling on my tooth. THEN he goes "Oh yeah there's definitely a cavity." And starts filing off the rest of my tooth until it's gone. Explain to me why you had to expose and file off most of my tooth in order to determine that I had a cavity? This dentist Brandon was flossing between my teeth to make sure the new crown fit and this jack a** had the floss pressed against my gums so hard that I had to move his arm so he would stop. I told him he was hurting me. THEN he had the audacity to say "I do this all the time." Seriously what kinda 'do you know how my dad is' type of nonsense is that?! The crown that was made for me did not fit my mouth. The bite was way off! And the dentist (I kid you not) filed the crown down and checked my bite about 10 different times. On the last try the dentist Brandon didn't even bother the re-polish the crown. Leaving with a crown that is about 40% smooth and the other 60% is dull from where Brandon filled the crown down. Which I'm now stuck with! It had already been a terrible experience up to that point. Then this happens. On my limited FSA card which I used to pay for these services. I randomly get a $95.00 charge for 'Dental'. This is the only dental provider I've been seeing. I called the office and asked them to email me my records. Which they never did. The front office staff is just as toxic as the rest of the staff. When I called to ask why I was randomly charged an additional $95.00 fifteen days after my appointment. Which was on the 16th and the charge was dated in the 31st. They lady who whose voice resembled my own and my own culture was very defensive from the get go. I asked what I was charged for since I hadn't seen them on the 31st. She had no legitimate answers to my questions. I work in insurance and doctors offices call in all the time to verify if our member have a HSA/FSA and how much is in the account. It's a tactic they use. Obviously this place abuses that access to rack of additional charges that member's rarely get to dispute since it is not a normal credit/ debit card DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME, MONEY, OR EFFORT AT THIS POORLY RUN ESTABLISHMENT! read more

Last Wednesday I went in for my biannual cleaning and had Sonora clean my teeth. She is so amazing and did such a great job. She is always so patient to my needs and answers all of my questions. I know that I've needed some work done and I've been putting it off like a brat but Sonora was able to show me some cool but disturbing pictures of what one of the teeth looks like now. I scheduled my crown to be done before the end of the year because the very nice girl from the front office notified me that my insurance renews at the beginning of the year and if I don't use it I lose it. I'm so happy that I've found this office that actually cares to help me look into my insurance especially when money is getting tight. Made an appointment to get my dentures relined and repaired. They had a small crack , I let the dentist now his assistant said you can come back in 5 hrs they will be ready. But she made it clear that if they break again you will have to get a metal plate put in ..... ok So why not do it now? As soon as I got home they cracked again. Quarantine-era review update: On 3/16/20 I returned to Tempe Dental Care, against all odds and reason, for my previously-scheduled cleaning. Despite my previous review, I opted to go for the sake of convenience; they've already got my X-rays and history after all. I called the office in advance, solely with the request of being evaluated by one Dr. Purcell, and they obliged. I arrived for my appointment on time. Due to COVID concerns, everybody's social distancing was praiseworthy; the front desk staff also removed the sign-in sheet (good call). After a short wait, I was greeted by Leslie -- the same hygienist from my inaugural appointment, which seems so long ago now. Leslie recounted all the things we discussed from my first appointment; she's conversational, friendly, and a professional at her craft. She provided some useful information about toothpaste and electric toothbrushes for sensitive teeth, and put together a care bag of supplies at the end of the cleaning. She is truly pleasant, and I am looking forward to our next follow-up. Then came Dr. Purcell, a new member of the staff in light of one of the dentist's recent retirement. Our meeting was brief and to the point; she found no cavities -- a testament to my now-flawless dental hygiene, I'd imagine. She also acknowledged some residual damage left from the cleanings I had last September. She kindly offered a future appointment to fix it, but I declined for the time being. | Verdict | Yes, despite the content of my last review (which I recommend to you as a cautionary tale nonetheless), I am glad to endorse TDC with a 4/5 star review. It should go without saying that I'd vouch for Leslie and Dr. Purcell as your go-to staff at this facility, which is still as modern and efficient as ever. I won't be in Tempe for that much longer, but given my appointment on 3/16, I feel confidently about the last cleaning I will have at TDC. 'Til next time. read more

She was very understanding, explained everything as we went along, ensured I was comfortable with the process, and patiently answered all my questions. Do not go to Tempe dental care. The reviews are not an accurate representation of the care given here. Most reviews are highly incentivized. I work at starbucks and was routinely asked how staff could receive starbucks points for all the gift cards they buy for patients leaving a good review. The dental work is very poor( various fillings have come out) they are unhygienic, rushed, rough, and unprofessional. I have had 3 doctors who are "no longer with the practice" in a span of two years. I was prescribed Vicodin the next day after calling the office in pain. Went to a new dentist office the next day who found a abscess and infection that needed immediate treatment. I had to go back to get a cap fitted and the dr interrogated me about going to a different dentist office & made bizarre jokes that made me very uncomfortable. My new dentist warned me they would try to fraudulent charge me & they did, until I spoke directly with the office manager. This place is a money grab. Escalated to office management, nobody took accountability & he was very unprofessional. Been at a new dentist office for a year, no issues, no pain, just high quality care. I chose this practice because of the reviews, and feel compelled to write about my experience so others don't have to go through what I have or at least have the option to choose to go there. I was assigned to Dr. Ward. When I got there I was pretty sure I wanted to be done with future dental work and wanted a full set of dentures. They wrote up "the plan" which is an estimate. When I realized it was going to be over $6000.00 I knew I would have to change my plan. Dr. Ward never sat down, never looked me in the eye but just did a quick peek in my mouth a new "plan" which was for an extraction and implant. I had a crown break while my husband and I were quarantined because he tested positive for COVID so I couldn't go out and get it fixed right away. This is a visible front tooth. Once the extraction was done and the bone graft was complete the suture were placed and were way too long, the assistant asked the dentist if he wanted her to trim the sutures since they would bother my tongue. He didn't respond to her question. I then asked when I would get the temporary since I looked ridiculous with this missing tooth. Dr. Ward said "I didn't know you wanted one". Well I didn't know I was suppose to ask. This is how little this man will talk to you and explain the procedure to you. I am an ICU RN and know how vulnerable it feels to be laid back with someone hovering over you and I will admit I have a panic disorder with dentists and this is why I went to this place...it advertises as Sedation dentistry. I believe if I'm going to have surgery I should be sedated. I wouldn't get a total knee replacement without being sedated and this is surgery. I called the day before because I didn't see any sedation on "the plan" and requested Nitrous. When I got there I had to remind them and when the nose cover went on I was told they were new and patients didn't feel like they were getting anything. Well the reason they "felt" like they weren't getting anything is because they are not. I asked to have it removed since it wasn't doing anything and was told to wait a minute (which means wait until I am done working). At the end when I asked about the temp Dr. Ward said it would be okay to take the impression over the newly suture hole in my mouth if there was gauze on the gum. That is where I got up to leave. I have had impressions done and they create a lot of suction. Then I waited at the front desk to pay (and they can never find the current "plan"). I got to the car and realized I didn't have surgery discharge instructions. So I went back in and asked if I can start eating right away and one of the ladies started to explain the instructions to me and I told her please don't tell me I won't remember because I am so upset don't you have them written? So while she went back to get the instructions one of the other ladies said "well you did get up out of the chair and just leave" and I said well I've been standing up here at the front desk for 10 minutes they could have brought them to me. The whole time there was an insinuation that all of this was my fault. Very poor communication between the back office and the front office, between the dentist and the staff and extremely poor bedside manner from Dr. Ward On this flipside I found someone else later in the week to take over the care of this hole in my mouth. At 29 years old and as an executive for my company, it has been a monumental struggle to deal with extremely poor teeth. Through a combination of genetic predisposition, chronic illness throughout my late teens/early twenties and less than perfect dental hygiene practices, my teeth were unsavable to say the least. I had found some cosmetic relief through multiple orders of IMAKO veneers that I had crafted into a sort of poor man's denture to help tide me over once my front teeth started going. For over a year, I had no choice but to make them work, but they did nothing for the crippling pain I put up with nor for my overall health. As a birthday gift, my family scraped some money together in the hopes that this, in addition to my two dental insurances, would be enough to get my teeth fixed. I then set out to find a dentist. I was immediately 100% sure about Dr. Ward the moment I met him. I'd been to two other dentists for consultations before searching out Tempe Dental Care due to their excellent reviews. I had, in my two other appointments, experienced very poor treatment due to, what I believe to be, the other dentist's opinions of the state of my teeth and what they thought had happened to cause it. I'm sure that they probably both thought that I must have been a hardcore drug addict and treated me with a lot of unkindness. I'd even go so far as to say that they made me feel embarrassed for even reaching out for help. Dr. Ward, if he did think that, never showed it and both he and his staff all treated me with the utmost respect and kindness. The sedation, the extractions and the dentures were about what we expected to pay for such a serious procedure and, once my parents and I talked it over that weekend, we booked the appointment with Dr. Ward. The day of the procedure was rough, I'm not going to lie, but Dr. Ward did such a wonderful job and made sure to give us more than enough resources we could use if we should have had any questions at all over the weekend. The post-op appointment went very well and the Lab Director, Eric, and Dr. Ward made sure I was feeling as good as possible, answered my questions and made some adjustments to my temporary denture. They are wonderful. I still need to heal from all of this but the experience I have had with Dr. Ward and his office has been nothing but excellent. I'm so grateful for everything they've done for me and for making me feel good about this life changing decision. I can never say enough good things about this office nor about how skilled and competent they all are. When I needed a dentist for something so large, sometimes it felt so discouraging to meet with other dentists and be made to feel embarrassed. I never once felt that way here and I want to let everyone know that I am so grateful for the care I've received at Tempe Dental Care. read more

Every single appointment I've had at this place has been bizarre and unprofessional. Unfortunately I won't be coming back (and I REALLY hate moving dental providers!). Here are a handful of anecdotes that I had really hoped were isolated incidents, but are really just a pattern: 1. Unprofessional staff: At my last visit, the dental hygienist tried to strike up a politically controversial conversation with me on two separate occasions (I just got quiet and didn't respond hoping that he would take the hint and realize it is an inappropriate and not remotely professional to go there...) 2. Poor processes: The same hygienist X-rayed my mouth, and cleaned by teeth and then lifted up my chair and told me my dentist was out to today. I replied "So...are you saying I'm done?" He said "I guess so. Well, do you want me to call in another doc to check you out?" I was speechless. 3. Billing: I received a random $350 bill in the mail when I had no work done except a mouthguard for which I already paid a co-pay. When I called, they said it was a mistake and to disregard. I received the bill again with no description of services, and when I took it in to inquire, they explained that my mouth guard was not actually covered by insurance even thought they thought it was....but they would check into it again. 4. Customer Service: After checking out of my appt, I had the aforementioned billing question and I was told to wait in the waiting room while they took care of another patient. I waited for over 20 minutes, and finally when I saw the front desk staff laughing and talking about personal things, I went up to the desk to remind them that I had been waiting. Having dentures can be a pain. Having denture issues can be terrible! But having an office that is friendly, professional and courteous is the antidote to that grief. Friday afternoon I broke a tooth off of my dental plate. Stacey set me an appointment as soon as they could and from the first second with Dr. Jeff he was informative and honest. He explained my situation and gave me options to think about. I've been in Arizona for a couple of years since moving from the Midwest and the vibe from every employee I came in contact with was absolutely pleasant and comforting. I cannot say enough good things about my experience with Tempe Dental, Dr Betsworth and the entire staff. They saw me for a dental emergency the Friday before a holiday weekend. Not only that, I was a new patient. I should say that I am a major "dentistphobic". Dr Betsworth and staff made me feel comfortable and addressed my emergency. Not a current patient but my experience trying to book a first appointment was so disappointing and hurtful. I accidentally missed my scheduled appointment as I had made it less than 24 hours prior and it was made for first thing in the morning. It was a big mistake on my part and I owned up and called to state that I wasn't going to be able to make it and if I could reschedule for another day. The receptionist asked if I could come in at another time later in the day and I said no I had to work. She said, I should have known I had work if I had just made the appointment yesterday? And that I needed to provide 24 hours notice for schedule changes. I work full days which is why I need as early as possible and could not come in at any other time. She became very annoyed and rude with me to the point where I was in tears after the call was over. I had done extensive research on dental offices in my area and was so excited to try this place out as it seemed amazing from reviews, but I made an honest mistake and was met with undeserved rudeness and unwillingness to cooperate. I haven't been to a dentist in a while and wasn't looking forward to it. The people at Tempe Dental Care are extremely friendly and welcoming and that did a lot to make me feel less nervous. I had an exam and cleaning performed and they walked me through each step and informed me of what they were going do or what I would feel before doing it. I really liked that-- no surprises. Ok, ok. . . . It's been over a year since I last updated my Review for Tempe Dental Care. Nothing has changed. I still RECOMMEND this Dental Office. I am completely satisfied with the care I receive here. And lately that seems to be quite a bit of "oh my goodness" and "how soon can you fit me in" and "whoops! I broke another tooth." They always get me in and fix whatever I have done to my teeth. I have been going to Dr. Ward for close to seven (yes, 7!) years now. I know having lights, tools and hands in your mouth isn't fun . . . but if you must, then Dr. Ward and his staff are your best bet. read more
