This pharmacy is very lousy . They don't send medicines on time and always they are missing some of the medicines. Even after calling them several times about the missing medicines and after they tell me that they will send it immediately and after sending sms message that the medicine was shipped out but I don't get anything. I think these people are playing a game especially with controlled medications . They acknowledge receiving the prescription and they affirm that they sent it by mail but I never get it. I think there is something fishy about this pharmacy and the staff working there . I filed a complaint with DOH and I will file a police report soon to find out where are the missing medicines and who is responsible for this mess . My doc's office used to use Cordant pharmacy. They delivered my scrips same or next day (free) for well over a decade. However, when they changed their business operations and stopped delivery service, my doc searched high & low for a delivery pharmacy in the area. She made contact with Eastern and I've now been using them for ALL of my scrips. I think it's been about 3 years now. I've spoken to Joe every time I've called in for any reason. He's always been super nice, patient & helpful. Yes, there have been a couple of delivery issues, but aside from one that was an oversight by whoever packs up the bottles to ship, (and believe me, I got the 'missing' bottle the next day!) most of the other problems have been ....well....usps. (they get enough guff and I doubt anyone there deliberately delayed my package, so I don't like to bad mouth them). I'm a senior on SS & Medicare, and I don't want to have to drive/call around to see if some place actually has the meds I need (it has happened more times than I care to remember!). I'm going to stick with Eastern for as long as I'm around :) Hint: sign up for the USPS alerts. You'll get a tracking text every time your Eastern pkg is scanned when it goes through one of the USPS stations. Also a decent idea when it will arrive and DEFINITELY when it's been delivered to your mailbox. I do live in an apt and if any package that 'shakes' and sounds like pills, it's gonna get stolen if there are any dummies around, but mine are always placed in my securely locked mailbox....which is great because lots of other deliveries are left on a counter in the f'ing lobby....where there's a BIG sign telling them to deliver to the resident's door. Thankfully, every Eastern pkg has been secure in my box & since I use USPS tracking, I know exactly when it's been delivered. read more

I have been using this pharmacy for the last four years and they are always so nice and helpful. I almost never have to wait and when I do, there is a little cafe and tables that I can sit at or grab some needed items in their retail store. I walked in to get the latest COVID booster and I only waited 5 minutes. This pharmacy is a such a nice change from the big pharmacies that take forever and are very impersonal. What a treat to have moved to Eastern's after having my Rite Aid prescriptions dumped at Bartell's after the buyout, Bartell's pharmacy being a dumpster fire, Walgreen's being an understaffed hot mess. Moving prescriptions over to Eastern's was a piece of cake (they took care of everything), the pharmacists answer the phone and are pleasant, they had my stuff in stock, and shipping is fast and free so I don't have to find parking on pill hill. What more could I ask for? I also feel good about supporting a local business. read more

I am a cash-spaz, I never have it. Never. The Minor & James parking garage doesn't take credit cards. And the building doesn't have a cash machine. So every time I go to hang out in the stirrups, read an eye chart or get my boobs painfully smooshed I find myself in Eastern's Pharmacy picking up a Vogue and paying for it with my ATM card so I can get the cash I need to free my car from parking jail. The parsimonious assholes at Eastern's always argue with me about how much money I can have. I plunk down my Vogue and they ask, "would you like cash back?" I answer, "Yeah, I need a twenty to get my car out of hawk." Every time I get the same answer like a fucking John Belushi "No fries, cheeps!" skit. They say, "No twenty. You get ten." So the next time I ask for a ten and they say, "No ten. You get five." What the hell? It's my goddamn money. Let me have it. I've asked why not put in a cash machine? The receptionists tell me it's because Eastern's Pharmacy would like my business. They want me to buy my Vogue at the store so I can get cash to pay for my car to run free and wild. Well fuck you Eastern's. Guess what: today I brought my own goddamn Vogue from home and remembered my cash so my car and I had a good laugh at you as we rode off into the sunset - or broad daylight as the case might actually have been. It will be the day after I kick Satan's ass in a snowball fight in hell before I buy another magazine from you. Oh yeah, and you know what else? Your coffee sucks, too. To be fair - I've been getting my monthly prescription filled from here for a bit less than a year and they were great - that is until about two months ago. Usually I refill over the phone and they ship it out and I get it the next day or two days later. Great service. But two months ago I didn't get it for about a week. I chalked it up to a small oversight. Then my recent order was delayed way longer. I ordered right before Veteran's day and I got it two days ago. In b/w I called twice. The first time was after a week and they said they shipped it out and maybe the US mail was backed up b/c of Veteran's Day and the holidays. Uhh hello? Who the heck ships things during Veteran's Day?? And it was weeks before Thanksgiving! I called again four days ago and they said - oops - it is sitting on the shelf - we'll send it out now. I wanted to cancel that but they made the lame excuse of saying that they already put it to the insurance company weeks ago (no duh) and can't do that. I said I wasn't going to take it and refused to give them my cc # for the co-pay. The man .. get this... the man was upset with me. With me! I only took the order after arguing that he should be paying for it since I went without my meds for almost a month - he thought that was an incredulous ask. Geeze louise. End of story - don't give them your services - that is unless you like to receive your meds a month later. read more

This place is great. Sam Eastern recently retired, but the new owners are doing a great job. They mail prescriptions for free, and their instructions for medications are very clear. The candies remind me of the drug stores my grandparents dragged me to when I was a kid. They renew medications via telephone, and you can use the phone tree if you have your prescription number (written on the side of the bottle) ready. Today, I called them up, as I needed two month's worth of my medications for a trip out of the country. They were worried it wasn't covered, and I offered to pay for it, if not. They called my insurance company, and called me back within thirty minutes. So easy! read more

I have used this pharmacy off and on over the past 15 years because my primary care physician is at Minor and James, in the same building. Before today, I never had an issue. Today, they refused to fill my prescription because I wouldn't move all my prescriptions to them. I explained that I live far from their location and only fill what I need when I'm at Minor and James for an appointment. It isn't practical for me to drive 30+ miles to get my prescriptions filled. The pharmacist didn't even consider this, became very rude, almost hostile, and still refused to fill my prescription. I have never been treated so poorly by a business, especially one that concerns my health care. I will NEVER do business with this place again. read more

Well, good grief... here I go updating AGAIN--2009, 2011, and I PRAY this 2016 review is THE LAST I EVER NEED TO TYPE... but there's a good reason for this: CHANGE OF OWNERSHIP. If I'd written this update when ownership FIRST changed, I would be a bundle of nervous, slightly annoyed, timidly hopeful energy, but I was patient and did two things I always think are warranted: I gave time to iron out wrinkles and get things improved where they can be and... I gave feedback TO the new owner, who was a Rite-Aid pharmacist before buying Eastern's... I will say it again: If ever ever ever Joe stops working at Eastern's, they will forever lose me and my referrals. Sorry, new owner, but that's how it is... Joe is still why Eastern's has gotten the great the barely tolerable but retained-because-Joe-is-there and now again a "Woohoo!" review... boy times have changed but sure enough, I like what and who I like. I trust who I trust. I like and trust Joe who is not only incredibly pleasant whether on the phone or in person but is SO savvy and sharp. That man knows distributors and brands and somehow with all the changes can keep things sorted--he's seriously awesome, hence being why I stay with them for what they fill and giving them a chance even when it's something they cannot break even in ordering (that said they HAVE lost money here and there with my insurance always changing its going prices periodically, but it's made up for by the price for brand name or even inexpensive generics my insurance pays plenty for)... Details that have truly brought it back to 5* should be said, though. This is about the WHOLE pharmacy, not just the one guy who will forever have my respect and trust... What's changed that I can credit the OWNER with? 1) They took my feedback (and others') seriously and stopped having the packages state that a pharmacy is where they were sent from--important for apartment dwellers should something not fit in the box. 2) THEY FINALLY FINALLY TRACK PACKAGES--something Sam Eastern refused to do, as if that was SO terribly costly that he couldn't buy a loaf of bread if he did it... 3) While the BUILDING required part of the store's modifications in appearance (bye, familiar old pharma-pink counters!), the organization and things to buy are generally just better...part of that= 3b) Hey, what do you know, you can, if needed, finally get a wheelchair or walker in and out of this place without being attacked by the stuffed animals for sale or scraping the coffee counter! One tiny gripe=still haven't gone back to Zoka coffee...I think they have Cafe Vita, which isn't awful by any stretch but isn't, when The Peak has Stumptown right across Jefferson St., unique or interesting or really worth the cost differential when there's free coffee (yes, drip, but the barista isn't a devoted barista at the pharmacy, either) of similar caliber in the clinics. It'd surely be nice if somewhere could give me Zoka TUSCAN by the glass... even Zoka only has that lovely stuff by the pound (the clinics had Zoka stuff, that and Tangletown, for about 6 months then I guess all the people stealing the free delicious coffee who weren't patients made it unsustainable... if it's Tuscan I'll buy 20oz of it... just a thought)! Anyway, it's not exactly the place you buy your OTC stuff if you take anything frequently, no, but first aid and even having (Curad) brand name 2-ply alcohol wipes (what I carry everywhere instead of drippy goopy Purell--much cleaner to wipe the grime OFF while sanitizing, not wipe it around) that don't smell funky like the cheap Premier Value/Walgreen's off-brand stuff that is like petrol-based textile texture preservers plus the alcohol)... I personally have no need for the stuffed animals, but it DOES remind me of the days when I was the little kid who GOT said animal... and they have good ones compared to the chain stores... THAT is for sure. Even their greeting cards are generally better stuff. It's nice to still have local shops that even focus on SOME local gear. Now that they track and aren't run by a guy just waiting to retire, they're back to a 5* operation. WHAT A RELIEF. Sorry it took me so long to actually acknowledge this, new owner guy and always cool retained staff from yesteryears. SO nice to be able to support them fully again... Oh, and they "may" or "are working on" physical delivery so things like, you know, refrigerated stuff will come to your door... which is why I use NW Prescriptions and Medical Supply--one thing I use does need steady refrigeration, so it's been a godsend of sorts to have it brought here so I'm not running around with cold packs in bags of a tiny number of terribly expensive injections! In any case, it's a maybe/some day/looking into it thing for now. Cabrini does have that service for that immediate area, but I wasn't a huge fan of them when I tried them out moons ago and Cabrini in general isn't great at having more than the cheapest option even between drug FORMS. read more

Sam Eastern (the owner) is the very definition of sanctimonious. I no longer use that pharmacy after he told me my suggestions weren't welcome; and worse, because I didn't like his attitude, he tried to force me to buy a subscription I had started to order there. I told him no and if he didn't return the coupon for the prescription I'd file a complaint with the licensing board. He was angry, but got the hint that my rights prevailed over his sanctimonious attitude. He has no expertise I cannot get at Bartels. I only wish that Minor & James would discontinue their relationship with him or at least, perhaps, it is time for him to retire. read more

I have switched all my prescriptions to Easterns (12) and have them mailed monthly for free. I haven't had any problems so far of any consequence, but I can and have called them and talked to a real person -- Joe. If I need a new prescription from the doctor, he gets it handled immediately -- unlike some big name pharmacies. If there is an issue, he calls me. (I can't begin to tell you about all the problems I had at Rite-Aid.) The personal service doesn't cost me anymore since I pay a set deductible anyway. Also, they carry some unique gifts and cards if you need something different. Yes, perhaps the sundries in the store do cost more, but if you want cheap go to the pharmacy at Walmart. And yes Sam can be a little cranky at times, but he sees to it that you're waited on immediately and gets you the right help. All in all, you get what you pay for. read more

DON'T COUNT ON CIVILITY: For years I depended on Sam and his cohorts. I live out of town, and though their service and attitudes were often just tolerable ('you are only a customer, why should I be friendly with you?'-- about 50% have a bad attitude, but a few of the pharmacists are always helpful!) they did help me out in getting meds through the mail when I was out, and couldn't make the 120 miles into Minor & James that day. That worked several times, although, if they were not successful in their attempt to contact my doctor (2 floors upstairs), I never received any calls letting me know that they were unsuccessful. And that is the situation that has caused me to call up Sam today and tell him that I will never step foot in his store again. I needed some meds badly a couple weeks ago (I have several herniated discs) and snow on the pass made it impossible to get over there and I was getting too close to out. So I called Sam to contact my Dr. (UPSTAIRS) and asked if they could simply do it again. However, though he faxed them daily,he received no response. However, he never called to say he was having a problem--I figured they were in the mail, as I had emphasized to the pharmacist this time to PLEASE CALL IF THEY HAD ANY PROBLEMS. Their faxes went unanswered for 4 days. I figured out the problem when I drove in a few days later (after the weekend, when Eastern's is closed). The problem turned out to be a lazy Dr's. assistant (not a nurse), who did not pass them along to my doctor. I let them know how difficult a position this put me in--I couldn't imagined that a person with no real medical expertize wouldn't at least ask my doctor (who IS Superman). Nor did Sam do anything but continue to fax and continue to get no response--no calls upstairs, no calls to me--hell, someone could of even hopped on the elevator and gone the two floors to his front desk and leave a note for the DR. Instead, almost 2 weeks later now, Sam personally calls my home and gets my wife on the phone and complains to her about how much "work" they did sending those faxes and how I didn't even call them (to give him information that I had called him to help with!). He upset her badly (she has continued cognitive problems from a car accident--rolled 10 times--which cause her to take people very seriously and get easily upset. I do too; same wreck). Sam continued his "angry, upset" attack until she was compelled to say how sorry she was for us causing this. Then she called me to find out who this person could be. Also, almost every time I have walked in there now (Sam had gotten to know my name after a couple of initial rude encounters -- 'only customers are allowed in here, sir' -- or something similar), Sam asks me to transfer my scripts to him. I did once transfer my way over $1000 a month regime to him, but they screwed up the first two times--without showing a bit of concern. So, I transferred everything to a small local pharmacy in our small town who can apparently use the business more than good old Sam. Friendly, call if any problems, they know my unique problems, greet me as I walk in, available after hours....and while competing against all the chain drugstores in supermarkets, etc., they need 4 fulltime pharmacists to keep up with their volume. Why? Customer service. Treat everyone equally--and that means very well. They look up from their work now and then and ask a customer if they need help finding anything. And in a university town in which a huge part of the population is constantly changing, this good sevice is not because they know everyone. Support your local independent pharmacy--they will always care more--and desperately need your business in today's world where big business has overwhelmed the little guy. Apparently, Sam has more business than he needs, so he now IS big business. read more

The pharmacists are nice and try to be helpful. The techs, who sometimes answer the phone, are quite rude. This pharmacy is very difficult to work with overall. They mean well I think, but did not do anything correctly, including inputting the wrong billing info, not prescribing my medication correctly, as well as sending my prescription to the wrong address which is a huge HIPPA violation. I would recommend going with a different pharmacy. read more

Basically Eastern's sounds good with their free mailing and free parking if that's the way you wish to pick up your prescription,plus a huge selection of great cards for each and every occasion,not to mention salt water taffy. My problem with the place is it's staff behind the prescription counter(all of the pharmacists.) They are argumentative and sure of themselves inspite of being proven wrong about ,say,the right time to re-order. They also,and this may sound petty,comment about my appearance each and every time I have either been in their store or standing at the elevators.The last time I was browsing the cards and turned to leave when I heard the owner laugh derisively to another customer as he pointed me out. The arrogance of men to think they can comment on any woman particularly from their lofty perch overlooking their fiefdom turns me way off and I will take my business elsewhere. read more

I work at the clinic and its very seldom visit this pharmacy for maybe a drink or a tums something of that sort. Ive worked here for almost 2 years and sam eastern, the owner. is rude to me each and every time i go into his shop. I come in there i don't short change them, don't even give attitude, nothing but i get my card or change thrown at me, i get very rude glares from this man EACH AND EVERY TIME. It makes me wonder if he is prejudice? I have told my family who have their medical provides here at MJM, not to EVER get their medications from him. read more
