Unacceptable Service & Zero Priority I am beyond frustrated with the service I received today, and I ended up walking out. My wife, my two kids, and I walked into this establishment around 4:35 PM on March 25th. We were greeted at the front by Ted, who told us he'd be over to help us "real soon" and instructed us to head back to the electronic drums. Couple other staff asked if we needed help which we did, and was told they couldn't really help us because they weren't the 'drum guy' and to wait for Ted. We waited. For 25 to 30 minutes. When Ted finally decided to show up, he gave us maybe five minutes of his time. Instead of actually helping us make a decision, he left us with more questions than answers. He told us he'd be "right back," and then disappeared for another 10 minutes. From where I was standing, I could see him at the front of the store helping people who walked in long after we did. The breaking point was when he finally came back to our area...but not to help us. He started assisting another person who had just arrived. At that point, I was losing my cool. He knew we had been waiting patiently for a long time, yet he continued to treat us like we weren't a priority. Once he finally finished with the latecomers, I had to confront him with the facts. I told him exactly how long we'd been sitting there while he ignored us for newer customers. Instead of offering a solution or taking accountability, he just hit me with excuses. Then, he actually had the nerve to ask if I had "more questions." I told him flat out: I was ready to check out 30 minutes ago, but he left us hanging high and dry. I was literally about to tell him which set we were buying, but after that experience, I decided right then and there that we wouldn't be supporting this business. We walked out. Bottom line: You need to get your priorities straight. UPDATE: I'm updating my previous 1-star review to 5 stars because of one person... Senior Manager Anju (I hope I spelled that correctly). After that initial visit yesterday which left us feeling disregarded and unimportant... Anju reached out to me personally to make it right during our phone call. It takes a true leader to own up to a mistake and honestly she did so with such grace. Took full accountability for her store and them some. When we returned today, we weren't just 'customers' we were felt like actual guests. Anju provided the kind of high-touch and personalized support that made the store feel more like a community. She was patient, informative, answered all my questions and incredibly kind to our 5-year-old. She made sure we walked out happy and we left with the perfect Roland TD-07DMK Electronic Drum Kit and a matching V-Drum Amp. I felt Anju made it her mission to make sure every detail was handled perfectly so we could focus on the excitement of our daughter's musical journey instead of the issues we faced previously. It's easy to be a good store when things go right, but how you handle things when they go wrong is the true test... Anju passed with flying colors. I live in Virginia and purchased an Epiphone Les Paul Tribute Plus guitar From Easy Music Center, Honolulu. They sent me photos of the guitar before I purchased it. I bought the guitar and they packaged it to perfection. I received it via FEDEX in excellent condition. When I got the guitar out of the box it was beautiful, not a spot of dust. The inspection and adjustments they made were nothing less than professional. The friendlyness of the entire staff was way more than 10+ stars. Every time we visit, we usually have an idea of what we're looking for, and there's always someone knowledgeable who helps us narrow it down -- whether it's for piano or ukulele -- and we always leave with something perfect. Went in today to purchase a Takamine Acoustic Guitar. Went to the Acoustic Guitar section and found the one I was looking for. "Cameron"one of their amazing associates approached me as I was walking to the front to see if I could try the guitar. He quickly set me up and let me know if I need anything else, he'd be back in a few minutes. Man, I fell in love with that guitar from the first strum! He set me up with a gig bag for it. My son was with me and he saw an Electric Guitar he liked. After looking it for a while, I did what any man that knows better does, get permission from my Wife. My son is a Senior in High School, has a job and works very hard. Got the green light from my Wife and off we went. The guitars are beautiful! Cameron went above and beyond to help us and we were so grateful! Easy Music Center is located at 1314 South King Street. Has ample parking, and the store was immaculate! We went there at 10:00am as soon as they opened. The Staff greeted us and other customers as we entered. We couldn't ask for better Hospitality! Very clean and orderly. The products on display were very well taken care of. It was like walking in a candy store for any musical instrument enthusiast. They have acoustic and electric guitars, ukulele, bass guitar, drums, keyboards, etc. We live in Mākaha and we didn't mind traveling to Town to get the best in Customer Service and selection of instruments. I saw on Easy Music Center's website that they had a saxophone in stock that I wanted to purchase. I called, made an appointment to try it out. Anju helped me get set up in a practice room and gave me a couple of options to try. She was very helpful with suggestions but not pushy or trying to upsell me on anything. She also had a technician look at the horn and do some minor adjustments for me to ensure it was in tip-top shape. Excellent experience! I had a similarly great experience a while back when I was in the market for a ukulele and ended up purchasing one through them. Was in the neighborhood so just stopped by as I have never been in this shop and was amazed at how large a place it was and how many musical instruments and accessories they stocked. I have an old Yamaha electric piano but the piano shop I bought it from went out of business. I was pleasantly surprised at how many keyboards and electric pianos they had. My piano is still good but my son likes to play so maybe we'll be back to check out a keyboard or electric piano later (he lives in a condo.) I know absolutely nothing about playing a guitar, but have always wanted to. I purchased a very cheap guitar on Amazon and took one lesson with Jason, and the instrument was practically unplayable. To begin, Jason is a professional musician along with being a patient, easy going guitar instructor. After having one lesson together, I attempted to return home and practice, but came to the conclusion quickly that the out of tune guitar I purchased on Amazon would be better of as fire kindle. I returned for my second lesson and Jason had suggested I could most likely find a nice beginner's guitar for around $200 or a little bit more. I was assisted by Cameron, sales associate, and within 4 minutes he had set me up with a beautiful Fender Dread guitar and case, that fit the bill to the amount I was hoping to pay. Yesterday I emailed the StringTech specialist at Easy Music Center and told him about the problems with my Kala ukulele, not being able to be tuned. He said, "Come on down and I'll check it out for you. I'll be here until 6:30 PM". So I went to the store and Brandon checked my ukulele out and said there was nothing wrong except the strings had been tightened too much. He tuned it up but I was so sure I was right about the pegs that we double checked them. Sure enough, he was right. I am suffering a cold and congestion and it has affected my hearing. I don't normally send reviews, but I felt I needed to share this with you, since I have been in customer service, hospitality, and business development for decades.   On 8/15, we went to your establishment to purchase a music book for my daughter, who plays clarinet in her middle school. While we were there, she looked at guitars since she is starting to play again after a 2-year layoff from picking up her random guitar we found on Amazon.  Her eyes lit up as she saw your amazing selection of acoustic, steel-string guitars.   MAKANA came in to greet us and asked us if we had any questions or needed anything.  He was very welcoming and made us feel at home.  He showed much patience as he answered my elementary questions because I know nothing about guitars.  He recommended a few options and talked about each brand. MAKANA is very knowledgeable, and I can tell he's passionate about guitars!  We spent around 90 minutes in your store, and he never rushed us to make us feel like we were wasting his time.  We decided to think more about it and figure out how we were going to pay for a sizable investment for a 13-year-old.    As we were leaving, we thanked MAKANA for his time, and he thanked us for coming in with no guilt trip or pressure to purchase that day.   Yesterday, we figured out a game plan to purchase the guitar and headed there 30 minutes before closing.  MAKANA welcomed us back and allowed us time to ensure we picked the right guitar.  After we picked the guitar(Eastman Grand Auditorium), he tuned it for us and had my daughter try it again to make sure she loved it, and she did! I took the time to write this message to let you know MAKANA is an asset to your company.  If it were not for him, I probably would have bought a guitar online or at another store.  His lasting impression made me come back.  He earned my business.   Please extend my thanks and gratitude to MAKANA and let him know he made my daughter's weekend by providing a 1st class experience we rarely find anymore.  I can assure you that many organizations would want MAKANA to represent their brand.  You are fortunate to have him. read more

let me start by saying Ted was super helpful and a very nice guy but when it comes to customer service the staff is super lacking. I went in to look at purchasing a tenor ukulele and after talking to Ted he recommended that I purchase a baritone ukulele because of my big hands. I explained that I wanted a tenor ukulele and he suggested that I could have them restring the baritone ukulele by using GCEA strings so that the baritone ukulele would play like a tenor. So I purchased the ukulele and was told to return the next day at 10:00 am to have them restring it. well that's when the fun began. upon my return they informed me that if I wanted the ukulele restrung it would cost me $60.00 other wise I would need to wait a week and then it would only be $40.00. after spending over $500.00 the day before on a ukulele that they suggested I buy and telling me I could have it restrung I was a little confused and upset at the amount they were going to charge me. The technician that came to get the ukulele to restring it was rude when I voiced my concern about the cost to restring it. So I went to speak to the Manager who basically told me oh well and offered no help. I know that $500.00 is a small amount in the whole scheme of things with the cost of most of the instruments they sell but all I could think about was how they suggested the ukulele I purchased and then charge me $60.00 to have it restrung. I am very disappointed and would definitely not recommend shopping at The Easy Music Store in Honolulu. By the way I actually went to two other music stores and inquired about the cost of restring a ukulele and both stores told me that it would only cost me $5.00 per string as long as I purchased the strings from them. So about $28.00 not $60.00 and by the way I purchased tw/o sets,of ukulele strings for the ukulele I bought at Easy Music Center from the easy Music Store. I couldn't find any ukulele stores that were open that had the Kamaka ukulele brand that I was recommended to buy while I was on my vacation. My friend who is native to the islands of Hawaii told me to get any ukulele that is Kamaka. I'm not sure who helped me but he was very patient and helpful to help me figure out which ukulele to buy. Have to say the guys at easy music Center really came through when I had issues with a new guitar. I end up going in and purchasing a Squier telecaster in order to hot rod it, and when it was going to get some work done, the rod was actually not functional. I took it back and after they did a lot of work to get fender to replace the guitar, they came through and I was able to get a squire telecaster. Bryson, Mike and the other guys that are working there it took them a lot of work to get this resolved, and I greatly appreciate it. The guys there were so nice and patient with me as they let try me various cases that would fit my son's ukulele. I went to EasyMusicCenter to get my guitar a "Full Setup". Customer service was very good. I was greeted at the front and then was instructed to go to the front desk to get more information on regards to getting my guitar a full setup. Only issue that came up was, I was wanting the guitar done by Tuesday (June 27th) and it was noted on the papers for the technician. However, I followed up on Tuesday around 4:30pm and apparently the technician forgot that my guitar was requested to be done on Tuesday. He expressed his apologies and even was willing to get it done by the end of the day but I wasn't in a rush. We agreed on the guitar to be done on Wednesday (June 28th) and he pulled through and did amazing work. I am still going to rate 5 stars because mistakes happen and I was satisfied on the resolution. Thank you Easy Music Center for servicing my guitar! I will definitely be back! read more

The issue going into highly "specialized" stores like this is running into an endless barrage of self proclaimed know-it-alls, and Easy Music, at least on my recent visit was no different. I came in looking for a USB Expression Pedal - and was told definitively that no such pedal exists. So I had to waste time showing them online that, yes, there are USB expression pedals. I asked then, if they had a converter from 1/4" to USB and once again, was told definitively that it didn't exist. So I had to once again waste my time and look it up and show them and they admitted that they didn't carry it. What's wrong with learning new things here, Easy Music? And actually pretending that... maybe, you don't know everything. Then the owner came into the picture, and with his INCREDIBLY condescending tone, he confirmed that they did not have it, then lectured me about not plugging my expression pedal into my computer (although with just 1/4" expression pedals... I'm not quite sure how he thought that I would be able to do the impossible.) I smiled anyway, and said that I wouldn't as he chuckled at my "idiocy." I asked about the return policy and at first was told that I couldn't return the expression pedal that I was gonna buy (which was $25 more expensive than any online store, and other brick-and-mortar stores). Finally they decided that I could return it. If the owner would make the effort to actually hear what my issue was and what I actually needed to solve it, instead of being condescending, belittling, and patronizing, then he would have realized that they had in stock, a new Bose Bluetooth Expression Pedal which would have worked for me quite easily, and at triple the price. I kept the expression pedal I bought because I needed it for another use, but went to another music store in town and have decided to not deal with Easy Music again. After all, if the owner is the one puffing out his considerably ignorant statements, and showing his employees that this is how you deal with a customer who actually researched what he was looking for before walking into their store, then there's no winning at this store. And like the old computer stores that had know-it-all nerds placed in front of customers as sales associates, blithely demoting themselves to the lower peon classes to communicate with us newbs, eventually customers grow weary of this and the masturbatory way that they approach sales eventually leads to the closure of a local store. Which is SUPER unfortunate. Because I would pay extra for a pleasant experience, even with products with higher mark ups such as Easy Music. But there is zero incentive to be expected to pay THAT MUCH more, only to be treated as an imbecile who knows nothing by an owner dripping with condescension. Pity. Another one will bite the dust eventually. I, for one, will never set foot in here again to purchase anything even though they may have other decent sales people. Because the rot starts at the top. And boy... is it a pretty strong smell. read more

So I finally pulled the trigger and started buying some DJ equipment. Once again great customer service by the Easy Music Center team. They had everything I needed in stock and Bryce made sure my pa speaker fit in the carrying tote properly. Cielo helped me decide on a proper size monitor and all my needs were met graciously. At the end Bryce made me a great deal and even suggested a 10' XLR cable rather than '6 which is definitely going to work out better for me. First time coming here for anything and I gotta say that this place was packed with all sorts of instruments and supplies. I was here shopping for my oldest sons first guitar. He's been playing the ukulele and piano for a while now and wanted a guitar for his birthday. A friend of mines who also plays the guitar was helping him out play various types of guitars that he owned before we arrived here. My son ended up just going with an electric guitar. The staff member, Daniel was very helpful and knowledgable. He did an awesome job showing my son a thing or two about guitars. So for beginners, I went with the slightly cheaper package deal which had an electric guitar with strap and picks, a Fender brand amp and cord all for $299. It was recommended for a beginner. I also bought a guitar stand for $15 and a clip on guitar tuner. The parking lot is super small on the outside, but there's actually a ramp that goes into the building. Overall, because I don't normally shop for instruments, I felt it's pretty expensive in general, but I'm sure it's considered pretty cheap in the music world read more

After buying it, I realized I had a shipping issue: no one would be home to sign for it, and I forgot to tell them that. They made a change to the order and everything worked out fine. Fantastic customer service and a big selection of keyboard pianos at this store. I came in with the family and loved getting to try the different models side by side. I really liked our sales guy (has a mustache and owns a Roland) as he answered all my novice questions patiently and thoroughly. We ended up buying the floor model as it was the last one available. A sales associate took the time to wipe it down (it was pretty dusty) and this was after the purchase was completed! They helped to carefully load it into our van even though it was past closing, which we felt awful about. They were absolutely so kind despite the inconvenience.
