Husband has taken up a new hobby and I was glad it wasn't acoustic drums this time. We came here to shop as he had received a gift card for his birthday and the staff was super attentive and he found what he needed. I was stunned at the size of this place, they have all kinds of stuff - I am not a musician so i was duly impressed; they even had the bongos I wanted a long, long time ago (long story). Drumsticks of all shapes, sizes and weight; guitars on the walls, sound systems, a room you can practice in (nice to listen to other players trying it out), accessories, albums, gifts, and more. Excellent customer service- I had not used my Guitar Center credit card for a year so I embarrassingly found out that my card was closed and was rejected and I had no credit for the items I brought up to the counter. Unfortunately, I had a very small bag without my atm card or another credit card so I just reapplied to the Guitar Center credit line. I returned with my card info and bought my items. i wanna start off by saying if you ever plan to visit the store anytime soon, dont waste your time and gas since they are temporary closed for weeks now. i am giving one star because i really feel so sorry for my 12 year old brother... he is so passionate and excited about getting his first electric guitar, went in to the store at the beginning of march, bought and paid the electric guitar with his own money with cash that he has saved up from his allowance, he got told he needed to come back in 2 weeks to pick up the item. he got the receipt & everything was good to go. cool. he was scheduled to pick up on march 18th, we arrived, and noticed the closed sign at the door. we would've appreciate it if someone just tried to send us an email, or text, or a call that my brother wont be getting his guitar anytime soon due to idk just say unforeseen circumstances.... but we got nothing at all. up until now, it is april 1st, they have my brother's money, he doesn't have the guitar, and he is patiently waiting and waiting until idk when? he calls the store every day hoping to talk to someone and if to see if they are finally open. this is frustrating. if someone could just please give is a call or send us an email or something that would be great. read more

Besides obviously being understaffed and some implied customer profiling by the staff that is there, the biggest problem is the website. According to the Guitar Center website, this store has nothing in stock of any type. No strings. No instruments. No music. No accessories. Nothing. Basically, on the site the store seems to be nothing but a sort of catalogue showroom where you go in and order stuff. As for the profiling, apparently seniors are basically invisible to the staff in the store. I waited for nearly an hour and never once got any assistance or asked if I needed any. Went in for an acoustic guitar and left with nothing but a note to self to never return there again unless I was really desperate. As another reviewer stated, calling the store is a waste because you never get an answer most of the time. And have you noticed how virtually every response from Guitar Center is the same no matter what the problem. Don't even go there with your canned generic virtually useless reply since I know from personal experience that NOTHING ever gets done to rectify the situation. read more

I like the staff. But both basses I bought here were broken. First bought the ash body wooden sterling Ray 34, stripped tuning gear for the G string. Couldn't tune it properly and returned it. Exchanged it for a blue sparkle Ray 34 bass, D string gear almost just as stripped and truss rod was broken. Wouldn't move at all. had to return it.. When I returned the second bass, they had the first one I bought on the wall again. I checked it.. same tuning gear insanely stripped.. when I told them it was. They're just gonna put the other one on the wall again broken. And someone will buy it. GC if you're reading this, fix those basses before selling them again! read more

I want to be upfront and this review is about LESSONS / BILLING and not about the products they offer at Guitar Center. I started lessons for my kids back in January/February time frame with each kid taking lessons at $142 (roughly) for 4 lessons. It was going good for awhile up until recently. This past May, June, July we ran into billing problems not really knowing why because Guitar Center automatically does recurring charges. My kids' father offered to pay for their lessons and gave his credit card information so that it could be charged and also be charged recurringly. The lead lessons woman helping me, using initials N.B., began to call me about the lessons not being paid and the credit card was not valid because they were not receiving payment. I had spoke to the kids' father and he said it was charged and even showed me the charges. As the days passed, I would get a call from N.B. at least every week then became every other day saying they STILL did not receive payments. Guitar Center would continue to charge the kids' father's credit card. (See the charges in the photo). Finally, these past 2 weeks, I had enough because I would be called every other day by N.B. trying to get payment when I had already tried to explain the charges are pending because we cannot control when and how the credit card/credit union charges. I understand she's just doing her job, but when I would explain to her in person, she continued to stalk me and call me, leaving messages and email. The emails I was getting from Guitar Center would state that my charges were pending then cancelled then pending then cancelled again. Maybe that's why it was always pending. Nevertheless, not going back to lessons there. The lessons were ok, not as strict as I would like and the kids said the lessons were ok, nothing really exciting. The lessons were not structured, but I guess it's based on the instructors. There were a couple of times where the instructors had covid/gigs and Guitar Center would rearrange our schedules the day before. It was a bit inconvenient to rearrange some of activities due to covid/gigs the day before but was asked to be flexible. I get it, it's just the business, but you would think there would be some kind of call ahead to give parents heads up. Overall, we as a family didn't have the best time with Guitar Center and their lessons team. Hope this review helps someone. Thank you. read more

A few days ago I went looking for a bongo stand for seated & standing playing. Prices on Oahu are ridiculous for both & more expensive to buy individually. In my search I found the 'Guitar Center' at Pearl Highlands & I had the pleasure to meet employee Jesse Bayot. He showed me two stands & one of them, a Pearl brand sold for $119.12 (total which I bought) for seated & standing bongo playing....$119.12!!! Awesome price! The Baja brand was for seated players, BUT it sold for only $80.00!! I couldn't believe it! Jesse informed me that the Guitar Center is the largest music instrument store in the USA. That being said, the prices are more fair for us Hawaiian residents. Good Aloha, eh. But what got me about Jesse is that you can tell he really loves his job & it definitely shows. He went out of his way to show me how to install my bongos to the stand. I walked out a very happy man & I definitely recommend the Guitar Center to get better & more fair prices for our music needs. This was the first time I have walked in here with hubby and daughter. Hubby bought daughter a guitar here awhile back. She really wanted it. Hubby came back and wanted an electric guitar he saw last time he came here but he said it was gone. It was cool to see all the guitars and keyboards. Keyboards are pretty cool. There was one on sale. Nice sound. In the back, there was drums you can beat on. One of the employees offered to help us but we were just looking. They offer lessons here inside the store. I have been to Guitar Center in Pearl City multiple times this year, and each time I've been there, I've been fortunate to have Jesse help me. On one visit, I was helping my friend look for a keyboard and was also looking for some gear for myself, which ended up taking over an hour. Jesse answered all our questions very patiently and even went back and forth between the store and the warehouse many times to help us with options. What was refreshing was that you never got the feeling that it was an inconvenience to him to make the trek back and forth. My friend ultimately decided to buy the floor model of a keyboard since it was the last one in stock and she really wanted it. Jesse noticed it was dusty and went to get a Swiffer duster so he could clean it off. This was a nice attention to detail and all of these things are great customer service from a manager. On another visit, both Jesse and Aidan went above and beyond to answer all my questions and help me purchase an amp I was looking for. I also returned an item purchased during my previous visit that didn't work for me and the return/refund process was seamless and no hassle. As a side note, when I was browsing the store waiting for Aidan to check if the amp I decided to get was in stock, two different employees came up to me to ask if I needed help finding anything. One of those employees later went to help someone purchasing a keyboard carry it out to their car and he did so with such joy that it deserves mentioning. I made a reservation to sell my Yamaha Arius. Loaded the heavy thing up and went to the store. I was informed that this store doesn't buy items and that it's only the mainland that does. I was further told that the Hawaii store computers don't link up with the mainland computers. However, they did have my phone number so I'm calling BS on that statement. What is truly annoying is that the store couldn't be bothered to call me and let me know that they don't buy used keyboards. I can only speculate that the salesman sold her a damaged guitar and wanted cash because the instrument was either written off or paid by the company's insurer creating a double recover. She didn't know better until I conducted my personal investigation. Not only will my wife never come to this store again but she may never surprise me with another instrument for my birthday. I have never heard of similar complaints made against other competitors. Currently standing at the register with two handfuls of items waiting to pay for now close to 20min. While waiting I watched a younger guy with curly hair go behind the counter to grab an amp cable without acknowledging the fact that I'm there, he then proceeds to take a amp out near by, set it up, plug it in play. Again, all while I wait to pay. Two other workers which is a female restocking things on the shelves on the opposing side of the store so not her fault. 2 stars because the older gentlemen with longer hair thanked me for waiting and said he would try and get to me as soon as possible. As I could tell he was pin balling around the store attempting to help multiple people. Lastly, the phone had ringed no less than 10x all within hearing range of the young guy ignoring me. So... First of all - I'm a very annoying and picky customer. I have had an experience with a guitar center. Not a pleasant one. I won't go deep to the details, but a phone customer service there sucks. Yet. I came to this particular branch and my issues were solved there with extreme care. Amazingly professional team with a great leadership. Managers Tim and Frank were greatly helpful. They really did give their time to listen what I have to say, they solved the issue and they also helped to get the right equipment. And what is the most important - they CARED. They really did. So I absolutely recommend to VISIT the store. Online shopping is great, but in this store sfaff- are music professionals, who can put you in the right direction and suggest on what you need. Went to this location to find good quality RCA cables which they had. While there I saw they had some vinyl records which I like and enjoy listening to. When it was time to pay the guy offered me insurance on the two vinyls that I wanted to purchased for a few extra dollars. I found the offer weird since no one offers insurance on brand new records so I declined. I have never ever had any problems with brand new records with the exception of minor press problems rarely so I didn't see why paying more for an insurance. When I got home I opened one of my records and it looked like it fell out of a truck bed, fell on the floor, sit in the sun for a few minutes until someone picked it up and put it back on the case and re-plastic it to be sale on the shelve. If this was a vehicle, it would be a total by the time I drove home. Tomorrow, I'll take my wrecked record to exchange for a new one. If they exchange it, I will update this post to a five stars. If not, this is my final review. Avoid buying records here, not worth it.... And if they offer you insurance on anything, be suspicious about merchandise damage they know about but they don't disclose to you, walk away immediately. If I was the owner of this business I would not risk my credibility by offering insurance on questionable merchandise. I would take bad product off the shelve and return it to my suppliers immediately as there's nothing worse than selling crap. Update 12/15/2021: Updating my rate to 5 stars. I went to the store with the defective record and my receipt and explained what happened. The sales person at the front called the manager and they exchanged my record with no problem. The sales person though (young boy) asked me this question: "You didn't leave the record in your car didn't you? A free piece of advice for you young boy. I was spinning records when you were not even remotely in the works of being born. When you ask a customer my age a question like that you are calling me either a liar or ignorant about how things work. You have a lot to learn about customer care kid. Don't allow your mouth to expose how dumb you are about your job they pay you to do. read more

Shame on you, Guitar Center. I have been a loyal customer for almost three decades. I am also an active duty 25 year, military combat vet, that has been to countless Guitar Centers around the country. I am also a longtime Gear Card member, and have bought more items at Guitar Center then my Wife has cared for. I was so excited to see this Guitar Center open up on the Island, and we even went to the Grand opening (fantastic concert by the way). However, in my never-ending search for another guitar, I went back today to go bass guitar shopping. I found a bass guitar that I really liked, but it had a ton of damage on it. There were numerous areas with paint chipped off. The fretboard edge was badly scrapped. One of the tone pot stems was bent. I went to the checkout desk right by the guitars, and asked the guy what he could do for me with this guitar. At the end of the day, it still played really good. He checked the system and said a new one was coming next week, and I could order that one and wait. I didn't want to wait, and asked if we could work a deal out on this one. Sometimes you like what you like, but because of the damage it was not worth the new price it was listed for. When he asked where the damage was, I started with the fretboard. I knew from his response, things weren't going to go well. He just looked at me like I was some idiot and didn't know guitars. It wasn't a big deal to him but I'm sure it would be if he were to buy it. When I showed him the multiple paint chips, that got his attention. When I showed him the bent pot shaft, he didn't find that a big deal but I'm sure the 100 bucks to repair it would be for a customer that buys it. The guy said that he could take off 10% which was 50 bucks. I was floored. This guitar had at least five areas of damage that would require repair work (which needless to say, would be in the hundreds of dollars). But...he's the expert, and I'm just a dummy. At least that's the vibe I felt from this young adult who was reeking of "power trip". I'm pretty sure that I've been going to Guitar Centers, and playing guitars before this guy was born, but what do I know about guitars. I even talked to another Guitar Center employee, and he could not believe that the guy only would knock off 10% but he said he couldn't say anything because that was his boss. I was also with a Gentleman in the Bass area who I spoke to after this encounter (who also wanted to buy it) and he was in shock. He said it wasn't worth all the damage. This is the best part, despite all the damage, the guy just put the guitar back on the shelf like no big deal. I guess I was just a greedy customer and someone worthy will buy my items, said the Guitar Center Guitar God behind the counter. So some poor unsuspecting person will buy it and not realize all the damage or be offered ten percent off thinking that's a bargain. If you knew it had all that damage? Wouldn't you mark it, or take it off the shelf? This experience made it even worse, because the guy just had a very nonchalant, he's the expert attitude, and treated me like I'm just a greedy customer. I've attached one photo of the guitar back on the shelf, with one area where the paint is chipped, there are additional areas where the paint is chipped, the fret board is scraped along the side, and the pot stem is bent but I was too disgusted to take more photos (I know...I should of). This happened Sunday afternoon, on the 11th of May. I did not catch the guys name, but he was short with reddish brownish hair and a beard I do appreciate the other gentleman who who helped me earlier and who also felt the 10% was ridiculous but of course due to job security, he could not speak out.
