My daughter LOVED this camp! Our family had just moved to Alameda and my kid didn't know anyone. Moreover, we had received some bad news, so it wasn't our best week. to top things off, the first day of camp was my daughter's birthday and she did not want to go at all. However, Bonnie and Diane and Dan, went out of their way to welcome her, make her feel comfortable, and make her birthday special. By the end of the first day, she was a convert! I was thrilled for all that, but more importantly, felt more at ease as my kid learned some solid road cycling skills. They even rode to each kid's home then showed them the route to each school. I can't say enough good things about Bonnie's bike camp. Bonnie is a skilled and gifted instructor. She makes learning bike safety fun. Bonnie is also able to ensure that all kinds of students are successful. She is both kind and firm and I trust her 100%. Both of my children have gained excellent street skills from bike camp. We are hoping to get a spot again this summer so that our daughter can refresh and further her skills before riding to and from Lincoln Middle School next year. Don't bring your child here, if he or she is disabled. After making promises that they would teach my disabled kid how to get around on the streets of Alameda, they told her, in front of other students, that she was out of the class early, and that she couldn't attend the next few days. Needless to say, my child was crushed, her already fragile confidence was shaken, and she came home very sad. Easy Street Cycling will not treat your disabled kid well. Be aware. read more

My oldest son took street skills 2 last summer and loved it, and my middle son is taking street skills 1 right now and is loving it. They learn the rules of the road, they have lots of fun, and the In N Out field trip is a highlight in both camps. They had a great conversation about their favorite parts last night. My kids loved the bike camp. One daughter has done it two summers in a row and she now has much more confidence riding around town. They said it was the highlight of their summer! Definitely a must for any independent cyclist in elementary or middle school. The antidote to helicopter parenting because now my girls are safe to have their own adventures. read more

Great summer camp for my son and daughter! My son, now 12 started two years ago and my daughter last year and we will be back! Not only fun for the kids, but a serious educational experience also. The student and a parent attend a short class sometime beforehand, have the bike verified as safe to ride (free) and need some necessary gear beforehand. After one week of camp, you get back a kid who knows more about the rules of cycling that you do (well, than I did)! My son and daughter now bike to locations around town, know the best bike route to get to school from home (they ride each route in class for each student!) and they bike to fun places around Alameda-bowling being my son's favorite. It's nice to get a lifelong skill out of a summer camp. That's why we'll be back next summer! Thanks Bonnie, for bring this to Alameda. read more

I consider Bonnie's bike camp a rite of passage in Alameda. 2/3 of my kids have taken it and you can bet my last will once she's of age. My son that participated in camp the last week of this summer was scared of biking because he felt it wasn't safe, but Bonnie gave him the confidence to roll off to middle school on his own. This is a *direct quote*: "Mom, that was the best bike camp ever. Thank you so much for signing me up and making me go. I can bike to school now." Kid you not. The class is comprehensive - traffic laws, bike locking, tire changing, truly the whole package. Toby the junior coach also is a stellar kid and has a very kind demeanor with the campers. I love when I see Bonnie and the kids, all in their yellow vests, going through town, it's like Make Way for Ducklings and fills my heart up with all of the good empowering skills getting poured into those kids! read more

As my daughter got closer to middle school, we knew she would want to bike, and needed skills on how to navigate the island safely. I was blown away by the skills she learned in this camp. And the skills she has been teaching ME ever since. My daughter went back for a second year, and this summer is on year 3. This is going to be an annual thing for us. One of the highlights last year was the bike trip to San Francisco. The independence gained, the empowerment earned; this class helps our kids grow into responsible teen bikers, and I love it! read more

This 1 week street skills camp was perfect for my 10 year old who has tons of energy, love to bike and wants to explore our town. He learned bike safety (which brought such comfort to me), the best/safest ways to travel around town and most importantly a new love for the sport. Every day he came home beaming with excitement to talk about what they accomplished that day (his favorite was learning how to change a tire). This camp far exceeded our expectations. Excellent summer camp! My rising 8th grader participated last year and learned to much it has impacted all 3 of our kids not to mention me! I am more aware both on my bike and in my car as a result of the information we all have gleaned here. My rising 6th grader is in the class this week and we signed up for next week as well. (Street Skills 1 and 2... well ~ she needs them both)! The kids LOVE Bonnie and she is a motivating, engaging and effective instructor. No matter where the kids go in the future they will take these skills with them. A friend of mine asked me why I am choosing to pay for this course since there is a chance we may move away from here in the near future). My answer, "No matter where we may go, I don't think we'll find a better, more thorough, age appropriate Bike course to find in this whole country! This is the most amazing summer camp ever!! It's seriously our favorite, after years of taking many other summer camps. My daughter LOVED the camp (she did Street Skills 1 and 2), and I loved that she learned the super important and practical life skill of how to safely bike around town! Bonnie is incredible - she kept it fun and engaging as the kids biked around all day, learning how to safely share the road and navigate tricky intersections. My daughter's confidence on her bike soared. Plus, they took awesome adventures, such as ferrying to SF with bikes, riding to a water park and BARTing home with bikes, etc. Highly recommend!!! This is an excellent program, I highly recommend. My kids and their friends took it in the end of 5th grade and it was immensely helpful. All the kids were confident and safe riders going to middle school. They know the traffic rules and routes around town. My kid has since done a followup camp and some other biking adventures with Easy Street. It's easily one of the best offerings for the tween/middle school kids. There is work involved prior to attending the camp (we had to sign up and attend a safety course at the library, had the bikes checked out by a bike shop, and needed to buy a good bike lock and helmet) so my advice is give yourself plenty of time in advance, don't wait to the last minute to get all those boxes checked. It is so worth it!! Bonnie runs a great program, empowering kids to be independent and safety conscious riders. They learn great skills and gain a lot of confidence. Five stars!! read more

My daughter attended Bonnie's camp this summer and it was amazing!! She went into camp timid and uncertain on her bicycle and after one week was knowledgeable, confident, and secure. She now knows the rules of the road, how to be safe and how to communicate with drivers. Though the camp was a bit pricey, I felt that we got full value, especially knowing how much safer our daughter is on the road. I cannot recommend this camp highly enough - it is a MUST for kids who are riding around town, commuting to school or just riding in the neighborhood. Oh - and we LOVE Bonnie! read more

Bonnie is an amazing instructor and dynamic presenter! Her passion and knowledge about biking has created a superior program. My son enrolled in summer camp so we attended the prerequisite education class with Bonnie as our instructor. Not only did my son learn about the road rules/laws, but I gained a new appreciation for bikers with the challenges they face on the road. The class covered a lot of material, but Bonnie kept it entertaining and fun. As for the summer camp, it does not get much better than "BEST CAMP EVER!!!" as quoted by my son after the first day. Absolutely the best investment I could have made for my 11 year old boy entering middle school. This weeklong class taught him everything about biking, preparing him for his daily commute to school while teaching him independence. My son is now able to change a bike tire, repair a fallen chain, proper and correct use of bike locks, and also the rules of the road. I plan to enroll all of my kids in this class as they age into solo biking. Bonnie, the owner and operator of Easy Street is a fantastic and energetic coach, extremely professional and prepared. I registered my twin girls for Easy Street Cycling last year as they were preparing to ride bikes to middle school. While one of my girls was excited about the possibility of riding her bike, my other daughter was simply terrified. She had not been on a bike since she was quite young and never enjoyed it. In fact, it was torture to get her to the first class. I then watched a complete transformation in just 5 days. Actually, after the first day she was thrilled to go back. Bonnie & Team make learning and bikes and the rules of the road so fun she wanted to learn more. Most of all, she felt safe, which was an amazing accomplishment. The confidence she gained by becoming a competent bike rider who felt safe and knowledgeable on the street was worth way more than what I paid for a week of camp. From a very overprotective mom and teacher - I can't say enough good about Bonnie and her bike safety summer camp! Not only did my daughter enjoy the camp, but she learned key safety tips that make me feel more comfortable letting her ride the streets of Alameda. She learned the rules of the road, gained confidence, even pointed out factors to consider when biking that she had never mentioned before. I remember her commenting after the first day of camp something along the lines of "(Riding bikes - It's like driving a car. There is so much to be aware of." I like the fact that this is hands-on training and that Bonnie made it fun by having the kids bike to cool spots - water park, ice cream, etc. Yes, the price is high but for me, it was priceless to equip my daughter with the skills she needs to be as safe as possible when biking. Also want to add that I appreciate all the work Bonnie has done in Alameda to improve bike safety and awareness - she helped get the very bike lanes that my daughter now rides - awesome! read more
