Our family had used the same tree service at our homes in Citrus Heights and Granite Bay for over 40 years, but it was a small family company and what with age and other issues with their own family, some of which are across the country, they are gone, somewhat unexpectedly. My trees were getting overdue for a major trimming when I learn Dave Mullen had retired, and sons not continuing the business. I had no idea who to turn to. Like my friends and neighbors, those we trusted for all sorts of work for years are now gone- dead, retired or moved out of CA. I wanted to find someone like the folks we had- doing a good job, utterly reliable, nice to deal with. I feel that I have. I have 2 enormous sycamore trees in my yard, base trunks over 30 inches in diameter and very tall- they are reportedly about 110 years old, brought from Missouri with the family that moved out here back then. They ought to live at least another 100, and many of this kind have lived to be 300, a few to 600. They give enough shade that some years I do not need to turn on AC at all so I explained that I wanted to keep as much afternoon sun protection as possible but not have the leaves so thick as to encourage moss on the roof, and also remove a few very large limbs that were reaching too far out over the roof, and also were redundant to another layer of them in the canopy, then prune small stuff growing downward towards the street level or towards the garage. Darren came out and looked things over. Due to the trees being very large, mature trees, even though they are not protected, since some of the branches were over 4 inches a permit was required- Darren got that in a surprisingly short time, and the job was scheduled for about 2 weeks out. They sent reminders, and 2 nice young men showed up with a couple of big trucks a bit earlier than expected, which was fine. We went over what I wanted, and goals and reviewed what was on the quote and contract to be sure we were all on the same pages, and no changes needed. All was good and they got right on the job. They were not very noisy, considering they were using a large, strong blower, and chain saws, and they finished much faster than I had expected. I was going to go out to take a picture, and found they were already into cleanup, so I have none to offer here. The trees actually do not have that just whacked on look - mostly the places where cuts were made are kind of hidden. In my opinion, this is part of a really good job. If you know the trees, it is very obvious the branches have been shortened up and the canopy raised, and they should not need to be trimmed again for a few years- they just do not look chopped on. I am happy. I know I will be calling on Easy Stumps when the trees do need trimming again, and I have already passed their contact information on to several people. read more

Darren set us up with an estimator (Kyle) for Tues morning 10am. Kyle showed up as scheduled on Tues promptly at 10am. Kyle walked the property with me, took pictures, listened to my priorities and actually heard me. He was super efficient. Kyle told me that he'd have an estimate to me later in the afternoon. Within the hour, an estimate hit my email. I'm still impressed! The estimate was solid. We've had work done in the past and knew a general idea as to what we'd be looking at. So, the job got booked. Darren scheduled us for today (Fri Apr 4th) @ 8am. So, from first point of contact to job complete; 5 days! Yesterday, I received a courtesy reminder via text and email that Easy Stumps would be arriving the next day....Communication is important to me, so I appreciated everything thus far. This morning, 8am sharp, Randy (the foreman) showed with his crew. Randy is very personable, professional, knowledgable and also listened to what we wanted. Randy and I walked the property, discussed every tree, stump and branch to be worked on. Once I approved it all, they got to work. A total of 6 guys were in and out of here in less than 2 hours. Randy continued to communicate throughout the entire job. He made sure everything was well taken care of...and they cleaned up as if they were never here! Once done, Randy walked the property with me again. Pointed out all the work that was done and made sure I was satisfied with the work. Which, obviously, I was! Randy also handled the payment with me and as soon as I paid, I already had a receipt in my inbox. This was by the far the EASIEST contracted job to date. Top notch company! I would hire this company for tree removal again but not for tree trimming. They are very responsive and scheduling was a breeze. Part of a massive pear tree that was scheduled for removal fell down earlier in a storm. Easy Stumps was accommodating to come out earlier and get the job done as the gate was blocked with the fallen branch. During the whole time, the team was punctual (even arrived early), professional, and efficient. We had one tree close to a public road that we scheduled for trimming. I think you have to be very specific during the initial estimate. We have had trees trimmed before and erroneously thought it would work the same way. You know, cut it back from the neighbor's side and street side. I did have feedback on the lower limb of the branches, and the team was accommodating. We have to go back to trim it, but if you're specific from the get go, then your trimming experience will probably go better. We tried to negotiate for a complete tree removal, but the price didn't work for us. I think a final walkthrough would have helped because it would have allowed us the opportunity for immediate feedback. We expected some irrigation pieces to be cut, but we did not expect a shrub by our side door to be missing. We are not sure what happened, but a stump remains as a reminder of what was once there. The quote was outside of our original budget, but we liked working with Easy Stumps. We hope to work with them on removing the giant redwood tree one of these days. read more

We used Easy Stumps for two separate work orders in May 2023. The first was removal of a small and a very large tree stump. This was done quickly, completely and at a competitive price - hugely less expensive than our contractor quoted. You can't even see where the tree was. A week later we had them come out and prune deadwood and extra branches from four Chinese pistache trees of varying height. Initially the foreman and I got off on a very bad foot for a couple reasons. However what's important is the work was completed and I was entirely happy with how the trees look. And the foreman genuinely apologized - not just once but twice - for our initial conversation. I decided to have another tree removed instead of just being trimmed after the crew lead showed me the tree was diseased and would eventually die and need to be removed. There was no pressure to remove the tree it was just a heads up that down the road it would need to be removed. After a very reasonable quote to remove this tree I decided to have it removed. They did such a great job trimming back our neighbors tree. They were also very quick! Would definitely recommend.

We were very pleased with the two trees removed and others trimmed. The crew did their best to grind the stump of one of the trees because we wanted to get a French and surface drain system installed in that area. It was too wet for successful grinding, but they made sure to contact me anytime it was likely dry enough to finish the task. I did not get competitive bids for this work because Darren provided and obviously reasonable estimate and I felt comfortable with their pricing (also another contractor said half the cost they were charging is basically the cost of showing up). I wrote down all the workers names that came by, but I lost the paper with all their names. However, everyone that I interacted with were excellent, including on the phone with Darren and in person, on the phone with Adrian for scheduling and questions, and Kyle that came back with his crew to do the grinding of the stump. I was not home for the tree removals and trimming, but everything was cared for and cleaned up! I was home for the grinding, which was interesting to watch!
