I've had this spot on my list for months now but it wasn't until I saw an instagram story tonight (while eating another dinner, no less) saying they were closing after tonight's service that I finally made it. We finished out our dinner and immediately set off for second dinner. Seems like several others had the same idea - people were lined up the block when we arrived. It was chilly, but without seconds, the owner of the truck came out tasty soup samples. It took us about an hour and fifteen minutes, but we did snag two combos with chicken and lamb and one with lamb and chicken chapli for $35.50 total (one combo to split for second dinner and the other two for lunch tomorrow). The chicken came bright red, perhaps a tandoori style? It's perfectly moist and might be some of the best halal chicken I've had in all my years in the city. The lamb is nicely spiced as well, not dry at all. We asked them to go heavy on the white and green sauce and I'm very happy to report they do not skimp on the sauce. It's a real shame they're closing up shop because I could easily see this slotting right into my regular rotation. * * * Turns out they're not closing up, they just upgraded from a cart to a full truck! Food: I tried this place for the first time, and it's now one of my top favorite chicken and rice carts. I would recommend getting the combo chicken and lamb platter. You have a choice of vegetables - lettuce, tomato, corn, olives, onion, and cucumber. They also have either yellow or spicy rice as well as five sauces (white, spicy, BBQ, cilantro and mint, and tahini) to choose from. My preference is all of the sauces except for the BBQ sauce. The platter was fresh and hot. All of the meats were moist and flavorful. We also tried the falafel as a side (2 pieces per order) which was good, but I wouldn't get it again. This is definitely one of the best halal carts in the city and worth the trip to Astoria. Service: The staff are very welcoming and friendly. They were appreciative of our business and made recommendations because it was our first time. Ambiance: This is a street cart with no seating outside. You can get a gyro if you prefer over a platter and prices are reasonable as well .A little bit of a wait as many folks who frequent the many bars around need a bite to deal with all that excessive booze intake. This is a recently upgraded food cart. That is now a truck on 30th Ave. the workers here are super nice and patient while you decide what to eat. There's a ton of options between the proteins as well as the type of rice that you can order. I decided to try the spicy rice with Kafka and also Chicken with regular rice. I also got falafel and some of the dips on the side when I went to pay, the guys were very nice and gave me extras of the dips. With three platters and two sides and ended up costing $37. Everything was nicely packed, and fresh by the time I got home. I do think that the sides of the dips are not really worth it for the price. They are smaller containers, but it was very nice that they gave me extra. They were nothing to write home about so I don't think I would go get it again. However the platters were very delicious especially with the green sauce. Everything was nice and smoky and not dry. I would definitely come here again. read more

A few other details that set them apart -- five different sauces, and for vegetables they give not just lettuce/tomato but cucumber, corn and onions. Saw this place online being a chicken over rice lover I had to check it out. When i went no line or anything but 3 angry workers sitting on there phones in the truck. Its cool i placed my order got the food it tasted HORRIBLE lamb was ice cold the chicken had heavy red food coloring and black pepper nothing was good. Probably the worst chicken over rice i have ever ate. If you're using shah's products i think you should re evaluate your business it was horrible.
