I found out about the program and had a hard time grasping the concept of allowing my daughter to go away to this place for a minimum of 6 weeks. That would mean I'd have to face the reality of failing her. I could not fix my baby. I could not help my baby and turn things around for her. Neither myself, her dad or my daughter wanted to believe that. It was devastating to us all. She did not want to go. This made me again feel like a horrible parent. But I knew at the point we were at there was not much else for us to do but send her for treatment. By the time we arrived at the center, my daughter was not talking to me. She cried, I cried and I saw my 15 year old daughter who tried to bury her emotions ask me for a hug. I saw her 3 year old self reaching for her momma (Ok, I'm in full out tears right now). And that was in some sense confirmation that she will be alright. She ended up falling in love with the staff and they appeared to fall in love with her. While there she completed all sorts of therapy and we participated in family therapy. Found so much out about our daughter that we had no idea of. Our relationship has grown leaps and bounds. She is now on the other side of her eating disorder. And I have The Center for Discover to thank. I don't know what we would have done with out this program. I could go on and on. But IF you are remotely close to doubtful (I can relate) but in the words of Nike...JUST DO IT! You will not regret it!

SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERNS -- CENTER FOR DISCOVERY, PLANO…read more I am leaving this review because I believe parents and guardians deserve to take a very serious look at who is being allowed access to children at this facility. My concern is that Phillip Vandiver, who works as a housekeeper with Clear Aura Cleaning, has reportedly been present at the facility without other housekeeping staff members present while children are there. If a housekeeper is being left alone around minors receiving treatment, that raises an obvious question: What are the facility's supervision and access policies, and who is actually responsible for these children when this happens? I also have concerns about Mr. Vandiver's reported criminal history, including a FELONY arson charge. I am CONCERNED that this is information I believe the facility should be appropriately aware of and that parents have a legitimate reason to expect thorough screening, supervision, and safeguards when their children are receiving care.  These are children. Parents place their trust in treatment facilities because they expect their children to be protected, supervised, and surrounded by appropriately vetted personnel. Center for Discovery needs to answer some basic questions: * Are housekeepers ever permitted to be alone in the facility while minors are present? * What safeguards are in place to prevent unsupervised access to patients? * What background checks are performed on employees who work around minors? * Who is responsible for supervising patients when non-clinical employees are present? If management believes these concerns are inaccurate, then they should have no problem reviewing the situation internally and explaining their policies. Parents deserve transparency. Children deserve appropriate supervision. And a treatment facility should be able to provide both.
