So here's what's sad about Key West. They suffered through a pandemic dependent on tourism and when tourism returns they treat tourists with utter disdain. A small amount of kindness and respect could go a long way but not fighting with a handicap person trying to park in this mess. My husband tried to park in a handicap spot. (He IS legally handicapped) We were over by 3 inches. THREE INCHES. The employee or owner came out as I was getting out to check our lines. We had planned to move on anyway and my husband hadn't even gotten out of the vehicle, but instead he chose to get in a fight with me and take multiple photos. Threatened to turn me if I posted a negative review. He could have handled it much differently. If he handles his bicycle shop the same way he handled us, it's not likely he cares for anyone but himself. We moved on but he said he would turn us if we posted this. He even questioned my husband's ability to drive since he is handicapped! read more

The bikes are good, the people are friendly. They do have stroller options, but they don't have helmets for children 15months or so (about the youngest you should put someone on a bike per the information I read). I think the only concern is that no one on key-west wears a helmet while biking. What are these people idiots? yeah, no helmet I love the idea of a head injury. I wonder how many tourist a year end up with that gift on vacation. All it takes is a rock, unfamiliar road, unfamiliar bike. . My husband and I came in and rented two bikes. These people were so fake nice. I paid for a Key West bell, which they insisted on putting on the bike. This must be part of their scam. I am sure most people in Key West renting bikes are in vacation. I went to remove the bell the night before, but did not have a screwdriver. I had to leave early the next morning and texted the company to ask if they could remove the bell and I would pay postage to send it to me. The reply, we don't do that and I could come back and get the bell. I was already off of Key West. Then the douchebag said that they would give it to a women's"s shelter or someone in the military. I am sure this bell ranks high on Maslow"s Hierarchy of needs. I think that they owe me for the price of the bell. They are complete douchebags who are chastising g. I do not recommend this place and hope they go out of business. They are thieves and I would not recommend crossing the threshold of this business I would give negative reviews to these piece of crap people. read more

My husband and I rented bikes on two occasions from this shop. Our first experience was lovely. We are a military family and were pleased to hear they offered a military discount. Issues began to arise upon our rental return. We were directed by the front desk staff to leave the bikes at a public bike rack and additionally take a photo of the bikes so they could identify where they were located and they would pick them up. We had rented the bikes for 24 hours. Once finished, in the allotted time, we did exactly as asked and sent photos of the bikes. The rental company responded ensuring we were finished and stated: "Certainly. Your rental pick up has been scheduled, you do not need to be present. Please ensure your ride stays LOCKED. We'd love a picture of your EB Key West adventure https://g.page/eatonbikes/review. For next visit, complimentary pick up is AT YOUR ACCOMMODATION. Thank you for your service and for choosing Eaton Bikes!" My husband and I both were so pleased by the convenience and ease of their offer to pick up our bikes at our accommodations at the next visit. It turns out the above text was a demand instructing us to leave the bikes an our accommodation and not being courteous/offering convenience because after sending photos of the bikes at a public rack on our second trip we received the following text: Mr. Martin, please get them back to your accommodation. By city ordinance, we are not permitted to pick up from public spaces. See previous text. I promptly called the company to inquire and clarify. The gentleman whom I'd guess is the owner was immediately disrespectful and demanded we return the bikes back to our accommodations. I attempted to rectify the situation and clarified that the prior instructions were confusing. I was met with pushback. I called the gentleman out for being a jerk and mentioned I would be happy to leave a bad review. He proceeded to tell me I was threatening him with a bad review and demanded to speak to my husband. I declined stating I am a capable adult worthy of navigating the situation. The gentleman hung up on me. I called back to kindly clarify that my intent of the call was to make it clear to the business that their customer instructions were misleading and that I did not mind returning the bikes to the desired location but that I would appreciate respect and kindness in the process. The gentleman continued to ask for my husband stating that him and I could not handle a conversation. I asked him to confirm the return time and kindly made it clear that we would return the bikes promptly. We chose to return the bikes to the rental location as it was closer than our base accommodations. The gentleman greeted my husband but would not speak to me. Only after I asked him to speak to me also would he make any sort of eye contact. He was very defensive but did eventually apologize for miscommunication. I would encourage you to consider your options well. If you value respect and kindness there are many bike rental shops who would be very happy to have your business and their appreciation would be evident even amidst confusion and tricky communication. read more

The Very Best Way To See Key West!!! Well run, organized shop, has bikes of all qualities. I got a well maintained Cannondale Hybrid just the right size. It came with a lock and lights. I kept the bike an extra day and that too was easy. a quick call was all that was needed, It really took 10 seconds. I sure was glad I kept that bike. There is so many streets that all have something to see and with a bike you get around so much faster then on foot and not confined to a car and worse yet parking! Had a tire down on a bike that we brought from Louisiana all the way to Key West. Not happy to say the least as it slowed our roll on getting to Happy Hours. They were very nice at check in and got right on the service of the bike. He explained the rules of the road as well with a smile. Sold us bike lights as well for safety. We visited Key West last year and walked everywhere. Doable, but this year I'm battling plantar fasciitis and cannot walk as far. I can, however, ride a bike. What a game changer! I went all over the island on my bike from Eaton Bikes. The delivery and pick up service was very helpful. The bike rode well and even though I haven't been on a bike in years, I felt like a kid again. I felt like the drivers on the island were repectful of the biker riders. But watch out for those pedestrians! They'll walk right out in front of you without warning, especially on Duvall St! Thankfully I didn't hit anyone. My husband is an avid biker, he rented from them recently and they only negatives; they don't deliver road bikes. A suggestion, even though we were notified of return rules they should send out text reminders for return days and times. It's a resort town and easy to forget shortened hours. My sweet yellow Schwinn had a roadside flat on our trip to key west. My first call was to Eaton bikes and they were super friendly on the phone and went out of their way to help me. In less than half an hour Chris came by to pick up my sweet ride and get it fixed for me. After breakfast I walked over to their shop and I was all good to go. They were Super friendly, extremely responsive , and gave me a fair and honest price for an quick repair. It seemed almost too good to be true. And it wasn't even their rental bike. I had a day alone in Key West and wanted to bike around the city. So I gave my bag to Paradise Porters up the street for $12 for the entire day. Then I came here and quickly got a rental road bike for a reasonable price with this amazingly attentive staff member who helped me test out the bike, gave me a lock that was easy to use, and attached a repair kit. I had a glorious day on that bike - I went all the way out to Cudjoe Key and back, swam at the beach, and explored all of downtown Key West. Bike was also very easy to return quickly. One star off because the other staff member who serviced me indoors wasn't wearing a mask while talking to me and that made me feel less safe. Everything else was perfect. read more

Fantastic experience renting from Eaton Bikes! We were able to get two solid cruiser bikes for 24 hours at a cheap rate, and the staff at the store was super helpful. Even better - when one of our combination locks jammed and we were not able to free our bikes that was locked up on Duval, the management staff graciously took time out of their non-business hours to go out of their way and free the bikes, with no-hassle whatsoever. Huge shoutout to their flexibility and reputation as a service company. Next time, we learned to not lock two bikes together on one lock! read more

Love this store and the people in it. Always helpful and kind. I just went by and picked up a Key West cycling shirt for my husband as a Christmas gift. I believe there are three different styles to choose from. They are hanging in the window out front and were all available and in stock! They fit true to size (I made him try it on), with the added pockets on the back for your fuel snacks. Each time we visit here whether it is just to browse, for a bike tune-up or to pick up an item, we always leave satisfied. Eaton Bikes also has a pick up and delivery bike rental service for out-of-towners in need of some wheels. In addition, they host bike rides up the Keys for the avid road bikers. You can also rent a loner road bike for long distance rides if needed. "I've only seen a shop owner get angry at a customer on TV. It was on Gordon Ramsay." -My wide-eyed 14 yo UPDATE: We needed a Key West Police Department escort to retrieve the rainbow circus themed bike belonging to our autistic son. The police officer that served as our escort became extremely irritated after a phone conversation with the owner of this shop. We own three rainbow painted adult tricycles. We originally bought them from Eaton bikes four years ago. A local artist, Lady Outrageous, did a custom paint job on each of them for us upon the recommendation of Eaton Bikes. We opted for tricycles because our autistic son cannot balance on a Two-Wheeler. We didn't want him to feel left out so we all ride the same style bike. Our autistic son's trike needed a new tube. We dropped it off at Eaton Bikes and took him for a spin around the block as he was having a meltdown over the bike. Anytime we came back near the shop he would get very upset and start to hand flap. We eventually took him home and did our best to settle him down. We missed the opportunity to pick up our bike before we flew out the next morning. In the past whenever our bikes have been at one of the Eaton Street shops, primarily the one over on Southard, they would simply charge us a $20 fee and drop the bike off to our home and lock it up for us. Our bike combination code is the same for all three bikes. After we flew home from Key West back to California, I received a call that the Haitian orphan we are in the process of adopting was in the hospital. I immediately flew to Port-au-Prince. Spent the next several months in Port-au-Prince with my soon-to-be son. Apparently Eaton Street bikes called my cell phone several times trying to figure out what to do with our trike. Now everybody has iMessage or Wi-Fi based messaging in this day and age and nearly everyone I know has a smart phone. Why this shop would not diversify their communication methods is beyond me. A simple text would've solved everything. SIDENOTE: After reading some other reviews it seems like other customers have had trouble with phone communication. To be honest most people don't answer their phone any longer. But most people do answer texts. I would recommend as a take away from this experience that text messaging be used to communicate with customers. Anywho fast-forward nine months and we were back in Key West. The kids and I walked through the parking garage at Truman Annex where we live and didn't see our third trike. OHMYGOD. In the stress and rush of life I had completely forgotten about that third tricycle. We went upstairs and I called Eaton Bikes. The girl who answered the phone said there was not a rainbow tricycle outback. I thought to myself, it must be stolen! So instead of panicking I piled two of the kids into one trike and I rode the other one and we stopped off at Eaton Bikes on Southard. They made a call and after a very tense discussion I was informed that I needed to go speak to Chris at Eaton Bikes on Eaton St. This felt like I was being sent to the principals office. The kids and I arrived and I was immediately patronized by Chris. I apologized multiple times and offered to pay a storage fee. He would not accept payment. I offered to give him a nice tip to make up for the snafu. He refused. I then offered to pay 150 to 200 bucks to cover a future customers repair as a way to pay it forward and provide a positive ending to this saga. Absolutely not - they would not accept anything from me. Additionally he stressed several times that we would not get our bike back until it was convenient for him. So this means that this bike shop is holding my autistic son's bicycle hostage and he cannot spend his vacation riding his bike. What a shame. Since I felt so unwelcome at their shop I returned to our home Eaton Bikes on Southard purchased two art bells, had them installed on our bikes and rode the kids down to the beach to try and salvage the afternoon. As soon as we get our trike back we will start to use a different bike shop. One, perhaps, that has more compassion and understanding for customers leading busy lives with a large extended family of children with all different needs. At the end of the day we come to our condo in Key West to relax and ride bikes and enjoy each other's company. We do not come to Key West to be patronized by overly indignant shop owners.
