I went in & out of the site several times trying to figure out if I was doing something wrong (I wasn't - a friend had the same problem yesterday.) and then it locked me out. Today (7/10) I arrived at the office a 1/2 hour before it opened and was 10th in line. However, an employee came out & said we needed to hold our phones up to a barcode and check in. I was still locked out and couldn't check in. This employee was pleasant but there was only 1 of her and dozens of people who needed help. About 50 people who came after me were served before I could get checked in and the woman inside at the first chair to check people in was totally, absolutely nasty. She told me my appt wasn't confirmed (pretty sure she spelled my name wrong) and to go back to the other woman (although there was no one in line behind me and she could have helped me). While waiting in line yet again I found the code I needed and went back to show it to the nasty woman. She didn't speak to me at all until I pointedly asked my status & she snarled I was confirmed. (It may have been a racial thing.) I then asked her several times if they would call my name or notify me it was my turn on my phone and she snarled at me, refused to answer me and eventually told me to go ask the other woman who had more than a dozen people in line. The woman who had started out nice was then very condescending and said they "wouldn't not call me name." Actually, they don't call your name and there's a confusing reader board that says they are "serving" people they are not serving on one side of the board and on the other side of the board your number will flash for a second and then leave the screen. It was horrible and ridiculous! It was much better when you went, got a # and were called when it was your turn. The woman at the first carrel who tested my eyes and did the paperwork was the exception and was very pleasant.

It's usually very easy to get an appointment same day or same week at this location. As long as you have all your paperwork together, they get you right in and out. Today I actually had to do a replacement drivers license since I lost mine in an airport across the country and they were very gracious and nice and professional, and I was in and out of there within 10 minutes. My license was up for renewal in a month so it was just done altogether and with the credit card fee it was $141 for eight years for an enhanced drivers license. The gentleman who helped me today was absolutely awesome unfortunately I don't remember his name but he's the guy from Brooklyn, New York. He was so funny and so friendly and fast and professional, and I was having an awful day, but he turned my day around, so I don't often give a government agency five stars but today this one more than earned it! We got there right at opening (8:30 am) on a Friday and were told we could not just wait if we wanted to, we had to have an appt. But we learned that they release new day-of appointment times each morning so we were able to get an appt for later in the afternoon. I came to get a new license after moving to WA from out of state. My appt was at 1:15, I checked in around 1:05, and I believe I left by around 1:30 pm. They didn't actually look at any of the documents I brought with proof of my new address in WA. I wasn't able to transfer my Cali "RealID" to a WA "enhanced ID" unfortunately; so if you need that, make sure you bring a passport or birth certificate (NOT social security card). ALSO BRING CASH OR CHECK if you want to save yourself fees associated with using card (even debit card.) It was clean and quiet inside with ample seating.

You initially have to come in to check in with counter number one and get a number. That is probably the longest wait which was about five minutes when I went there at 8:35 AM on a Friday with an 8:45 appointment. After getting my number I was called up to get processed after about one minute. It took about 4 minutes to get processed, my photo taken, and issued a temporary driver license. I found the staff to be very welcoming and friendly.

I showed up to my appointment with my passport, my license, and my vehicle registration. The board showed a long wait, even for appointment times, but it turned out not to actually take that long and I was in only a couple of minutes after my appointment time. I strode confidently up to the numbered counter when my name was called, and was greeted with a smile by a friendly person at the counter. I told her I was there for my 'enhanced license'. I handed her my passport and my old license. She says "... and proof of address?" so I hand her my registration. She takes a look at it and says "... and where's your address on this?" My face turned pale. I had habitually removed the address portion because I had vehicle prowls before and didn't want someone who prowled my vehicle in public to go to my house. I said, "I'm so sorry... I can come b..." but before I could finish that thought, she goes "Well, let's see if we can find it online." She spent the next 20 minutes hunting public records. We went back and forth with friendly banter, she talked to her coworker, and eventually found some esoteric document related to my home, and printed it out, and said something like "welp, it'll either work, or it won't." She was nice to me the whole time. It was completely my fault. She could have told me to pound sand and come back better prepared. She did not. She gave me some light ribbing but I never once felt unwelcome, and in truth I felt like I had just accidentally picked up a winning lottery ticket. My winnings? Faith in humanity, restored. I never found out her name. But she did tell me her birthday was close to mine. In the spirit of the day, I'd like to think her name was Julie. Happy Birthday, Julie. Or whoever you are.

I had a very disappointing experience at the driver's licensing office today…read more I was standing next in line waiting to obtain a disabled parking placard following a recent craniotomy. While I was waiting, a couple walked into the office. They did not get in line. Instead, the employee with the long brown hair saw them as they entered, asked them from the doorway what they needed, and they replied that they needed a new license plate. The employee then told them they would be helped right away. She looked directly at me--the person who had been waiting in line--and told me that I needed to wait. Another employee beside her pointed out that I had been in line first, but she again stated that the couple would be helped before me. I was shocked and confused. When the next counter became available, the employee who had spoken up looked at me and told me to go to that counter. I left wondering why the established line was ignored in this situation. Why was a couple who had just walked in offered immediate service before someone who had already been waiting? As a minority, this experience left me questioning whether I was treated differently. If there was a policy that justified this, I would appreciate an explanation. If not, I hope management reviews this incident so no one else has to leave feeling the way I did.
