Every day at 8:20 AM the Redmond location releases same day appointments, I was lucky enough to get one of those. FYI every Friday at 4 PM they release appointments for the following week. Otherwise you're looking at booking out a month in advance. I was able to register and secure an appointment very quickly online -- although I will say that the website did not have EDL as one of its first options, which I think it should give the importance of that license now. I had to use the search bar to find it and only then did it pull up. It was confusing trying to make an appointment for a renewal but it wasn't just a renewal I was looking for. What was very helpful was the updating texts that reminded me of the appointment time and gave me the option to check in online. The helpful staff at the registration information desk confirmed my check-in. The waiting area was spacious with many chairs, and there were 19 kiosks which meant very speedy processing. I didn't wait more than five minutes however I had to step out of the waiting area for a moment and it was during that time that my number was called. The saving grace was the smart technology was that sent me a text informing me that my number had been called. Nathan Diamond assisted me. I had my previous drivers license which was then canceled out, my W-2 has proof of address and my photo was taken. I was given a temporary license that would function for 45 days but I could expect my license to arrive in the next 30 days. Organ donation was confirmed and I was given the option of putting my blood type if I had written proof of it, which I wish I had known in advance. I did not however have such a document with me so I was not able to put it on my card but I was told I could update anytime. I chose the eight year option which was about $144 out the door after all fees, etc. The five minutes or so with Mr. Diamond was really educational. I think I was out in 15 minutes total. The parking lot out front was free parking so no stress about parking. The staff was helpful so asked for their names. The two people at registration were informative and helpful as well.

Compared to California, this place is pretty organized and efficient. You don't have to wait long…read morehours. The facilities are clean probably bc it just opened. The board showed a long wait, even for appointment times, but it turned out not to actually take that long and I was in only a couple of minutes after my appointment time. I strode confidently up to the numbered counter when my name was called, and was greeted with a smile by a friendly person at the counter. I told her I was there for my 'enhanced license'. I handed her my passport and my old license. She says "... and proof of address?" so I hand her my registration. She takes a look at it and says "... and where's your address on this?" My face turned pale. I had habitually removed the address portion because I had vehicle prowls before and didn't want someone who prowled my vehicle in public to go to my house. I said, "I'm so sorry... I can come b..." but before I could finish that thought, she goes "Well, let's see if we can find it online." She spent the next 20 minutes hunting public records. We went back and forth with friendly banter, she talked to her coworker, and eventually found some esoteric document related to my home, and printed it out, and said something like "welp, it'll either work, or it won't." She was nice to me the whole time. It was completely my fault. She could have told me to pound sand and come back better prepared. She did not. She gave me some light ribbing but I never once felt unwelcome, and in truth I felt like I had just accidentally picked up a winning lottery ticket. My winnings? Faith in humanity, restored. I never found out her name. But she did tell me her birthday was close to mine. In the spirit of the day, I'd like to think her name was Julie. Happy Birthday, Julie. Or whoever you are.

What I noticed was that, people who came after me but had an appointment prior mine still get the priority. My number was called at 3:28pm and got my visit wrapped by 3:35pm. A week prior, I tried to walk in hoping to get an appointment. But the staff told me it will take me at least an hour to 1.5 hours wait. So I ended up leaving and stuck with my originally scheduled appointment.

After visiting their website, I was able to reserve a place online via the Skiplino app. Very easy to do and reschedule (as this appointment happened the week of the Bomb Cyclone!). Apparently this place was open the entire time which was impressive. I went in on a Friday morning and was greeted right away. They were really helpful & able to assist me quickly at the time of my scheduled appointment; I unfortunately wasn't able to catch the name of the lady who helped me yet I was able to walk away with what I needed in about 20 minutes.

They really don't know what they are doing here. So, I'm going to list some things why the DMV/DOL really SUX here: 1. It's called the DOL and not the DMV 2. Registration is half of that of California. 3. Multiple offices in any given town. 4. Wait time is less than 10 minutes. 5. Some offices are open late. 6. Many offices are open on the weekends. 7. Drive thru service is available. 8. Absolutely no forms to fill out. 9. Office people are nice and friendly. 10. If you do not have your renewal notice or registration with you they can look your vehicle up by driver's license. 11. Office staff actually are knowledgeable. 12. Time at the business window is less than 5 minutes. 13. On a good day you can be in and out with in 10 minutes or less. 14. No lines. 15. Absolutely no penalty or fees if your registration renewal is a few days or several years late. As you can see the DMV/DOL is absolutely HORRIBLE here in Washington State. They need to be a proper DMV/DOL where it's fame make it into TV and movies.

I had an appointment to update my EDL as I realized it expired next year on my birthday (in early April, when I'll be out of the country). I looked online and they had multiple same-day appointments or ones roughly 3 weeks out, so I decided to do a same-day appointment about an hour and half later. I grabbed all my documents (I ended up not needed them since I already had my EDL and was just renewing but it was unclear based on the DOL website), then headed to Kent. My appt was at 10:45 but I showed up at 10:37. I checked in via text, then walked in. The front desk worker confirmed that it was indeed me and I did indeed check in online, then directed me to the waiting area. My number was called roughly 90 seconds later, and then I was able to get my eyes checked, take my picture, and confirm my information within the next couple minutes. I was back out at my car to leave at 10:42, before the time of my actual appointment. Huge shout out to the main representative I worked with, Ashley, who was kind, efficient, and fun in an environment that is typically perceived as none of those things. She also had the cutest pink keyboard and was a great representation of the WA DOL.
