Every day at 8:20 AM the Redmond location releases same day appointments, I was lucky enough to get one of those. FYI every Friday at 4 PM they release appointments for the following week. Otherwise you're looking at booking out a month in advance. I was able to register and secure an appointment very quickly online -- although I will say that the website did not have EDL as one of its first options, which I think it should give the importance of that license now. I had to use the search bar to find it and only then did it pull up. It was confusing trying to make an appointment for a renewal but it wasn't just a renewal I was looking for. What was very helpful was the updating texts that reminded me of the appointment time and gave me the option to check in online. The helpful staff at the registration information desk confirmed my check-in. The waiting area was spacious with many chairs, and there were 19 kiosks which meant very speedy processing. I didn't wait more than five minutes however I had to step out of the waiting area for a moment and it was during that time that my number was called. The saving grace was the smart technology was that sent me a text informing me that my number had been called. Nathan Diamond assisted me. I had my previous drivers license which was then canceled out, my W-2 has proof of address and my photo was taken. I was given a temporary license that would function for 45 days but I could expect my license to arrive in the next 30 days. Organ donation was confirmed and I was given the option of putting my blood type if I had written proof of it, which I wish I had known in advance. I did not however have such a document with me so I was not able to put it on my card but I was told I could update anytime. I chose the eight year option which was about $144 out the door after all fees, etc. The five minutes or so with Mr. Diamond was really educational. I think I was out in 15 minutes total. The parking lot out front was free parking so no stress about parking. The staff was helpful so asked for their names. The two people at registration were informative and helpful as well.

I showed up to my appointment with my passport, my license, and my vehicle registration. The board showed a long wait, even for appointment times, but it turned out not to actually take that long and I was in only a couple of minutes after my appointment time. I strode confidently up to the numbered counter when my name was called, and was greeted with a smile by a friendly person at the counter. I told her I was there for my 'enhanced license'. I handed her my passport and my old license. She says "... and proof of address?" so I hand her my registration. She takes a look at it and says "... and where's your address on this?" My face turned pale. I had habitually removed the address portion because I had vehicle prowls before and didn't want someone who prowled my vehicle in public to go to my house. I said, "I'm so sorry... I can come b..." but before I could finish that thought, she goes "Well, let's see if we can find it online." She spent the next 20 minutes hunting public records. We went back and forth with friendly banter, she talked to her coworker, and eventually found some esoteric document related to my home, and printed it out, and said something like "welp, it'll either work, or it won't." She was nice to me the whole time. It was completely my fault. She could have told me to pound sand and come back better prepared. She did not. She gave me some light ribbing but I never once felt unwelcome, and in truth I felt like I had just accidentally picked up a winning lottery ticket. My winnings? Faith in humanity, restored. I never found out her name. But she did tell me her birthday was close to mine. In the spirit of the day, I'd like to think her name was Julie. Happy Birthday, Julie. Or whoever you are.

What I noticed was that, people who came after me but had an appointment prior mine still get the priority. My number was called at 3:28pm and got my visit wrapped by 3:35pm. A week prior, I tried to walk in hoping to get an appointment. But the staff told me it will take me at least an hour to 1.5 hours wait. So I ended up leaving and stuck with my originally scheduled appointment.

After visiting their website, I was able to reserve a place online via the Skiplino app. Very easy to do and reschedule (as this appointment happened the week of the Bomb Cyclone!). Apparently this place was open the entire time which was impressive. I went in on a Friday morning and was greeted right away. They were really helpful & able to assist me quickly at the time of my scheduled appointment; I unfortunately wasn't able to catch the name of the lady who helped me yet I was able to walk away with what I needed in about 20 minutes.

I went in & out of the site several times trying to figure out if I was doing something wrong (I wasn't - a friend had the same problem yesterday.) and then it locked me out. Today (7/10) I arrived at the office a 1/2 hour before it opened and was 10th in line. However, an employee came out & said we needed to hold our phones up to a barcode and check in. I was still locked out and couldn't check in. This employee was pleasant but there was only 1 of her and dozens of people who needed help. About 50 people who came after me were served before I could get checked in and the woman inside at the first chair to check people in was totally, absolutely nasty. She told me my appt wasn't confirmed (pretty sure she spelled my name wrong) and to go back to the other woman (although there was no one in line behind me and she could have helped me). While waiting in line yet again I found the code I needed and went back to show it to the nasty woman. She didn't speak to me at all until I pointedly asked my status & she snarled I was confirmed. (It may have been a racial thing.) I then asked her several times if they would call my name or notify me it was my turn on my phone and she snarled at me, refused to answer me and eventually told me to go ask the other woman who had more than a dozen people in line. The woman who had started out nice was then very condescending and said they "wouldn't not call me name." Actually, they don't call your name and there's a confusing reader board that says they are "serving" people they are not serving on one side of the board and on the other side of the board your number will flash for a second and then leave the screen. It was horrible and ridiculous! It was much better when you went, got a # and were called when it was your turn. The woman at the first carrel who tested my eyes and did the paperwork was the exception and was very pleasant.
