After an incredibly hot visit to the Roger Williams Park Zoo, I was craving something salty and satisfying on a spiritual level. With that in mind, there's nothing else I could imagine other than a hot bowl of ramen. Located about 1.7 miles or a 7min drive away, I was excited. Upon pulling up to the front of the building, you can drive slightly further down SE and park in the small lot with several spots. I actually don't remember anything about the interior to comment much. I was laser focused on getting food in my tummy. We ordered; Tan Tan Men ; a bowl of ramen with spicy pork miso broth. this absolutely hit the spot. it was deliciously salty and full of umami, and the toppings were just right, and I inhaled it in minutes Fried Calamari ; another excellent dish. the calamari was nice and crispy and the meat was tender. couldn't have been done any better. the mango chili puree sauce was also very good and something I haven't had before Tako Yaki ; I'm not sure if I need to say anything about this. it's about as yummy and expected of a properly-done tako yaki as you would expect Karaage ; this one was actually pretty upsetting with how bad it was. the chicken seemed like it was very overcooked - the skin was hard and crunchy instead of crispy, the meat was not juicy, and honestly the portions of these chicken bites were pitiful. I even sent a snap to a friend and she felt bad for me. the flavor was also immensely salty. it came with spicy mayo (which was actually spicy! that never happens!) and a tonkatsu sauce, but honestly I was desperately in need of something sweet like ketchup or honey. Wife and I ate a total of 3 pieces. Our waiter was very apologetic and asked multiple times if we wanted it re-done or if we wanted something else, but we were already pretty content by the time we could air our complaints. I am downgrading my rating to 3. I remember giving a five or 4 at least. Not this time. I am very disappointed with this place. I have not been to this place in a while so I decided to stop by tonight. Literally, everything we ordered was "meh". Edamame - over cooked and dry, not enough salt. Pork Buns - chewy with not enough deep umami. Takoyaki - perhaps this was the best of all appetizers, creamy consistency but not enough octopus flavor, other than the sauce that comes with it. Then, what used to be our favorite - ramen was a real disappointment. Miso ramen - it came luke warm! A ramen should come hot! Not this one. The broth was neither miso or shoyu or anything else. Broth was cloudy or murky color soup with no real deep flavor. I did not want to finish the soup. I usually finish the entire bowl of ramen including the broth. The noodle was also "meh" this time. I am not sure if they changed the vendor but it was not great quality. It lacked certain "bounce" or koshi, when I bit into the noodle. The topping - chashu was thick and the portion was generous, but the pork did not have the combination of melt in your mouth and deep braised or roasted port flavor. It was too chewy. The bowl looked like hastily put together with not enough love and care. I have eaten enough ramen all my life since I was a little kid. I am now approaching retirement. Thats a lot of ramen. Three things that are critical in ramen broth, men (麺 noodle in Japanese), and the toppings. Combining all three creates an experience. This ramen was not a great experience. Something that looked like a good attempt, but will not win any prizes. When the place opened first a few years ago, I raved about it. The place has changed as if they fired the original chef and replaced him/her with someone who does not know how to make all of my favorite dishes or still learning how. Real disappointment. I probably will not come back again nor bring any of my Japanese friends or relatives. Maybe only good places left are Toritomo in Providence and Sakuratani in Bristol if you want better ramen. read more

It came with three shrimps with a thick batter not the same as the veggies batter. The veggie batter was a bit more light and flaky. We ordered two spicy miso ramen with chashu. Firstly the ramen noodles are not authentic. They are like frozen sun noodles. Soft and not chewy. Miso broth tasted like miso soup without depths of flavors. Very diluted and not delicious. Came here for the first time on a Tuesday evening. I had made a reservation, but didn't really need it. It was quiet at the restaurant. We started with the Taiwanese Pork Belly Bun, Spicy Honey Chicken Bun, and Crab Croquette. The pork belly was juicy and tender and the bun had pickled mustard green, peanut with sugar, and cilantro. The katsu chicken with spicy honey sauce, romaine lettuce, and scallion was crunchy and flavorful. It was also the first time we saw buns branded with the name of the restaurant. The crab croquettes filled with crab, mushrooms, corn, and onion were fresh and hot. The spicy mayo sauce is also very good complement. We also ordered Thai Iced tea and matcha latte. The Thai iced tea was good, but the matcha latte was very sweet. The shoyu tonkatsu ramen was delicious and very filling. The broth was very flavorful. I also enjoyed the whole soft-boiled flavored egg, stiitake mushroom, bamboo shoots, spinach, and fish cake. My husband had the katsu chicken curry with kimchee fried rice with bacon and crispy brussels sprout. He had leftovers to take home and it was very good. My friend ordered the Nagasaki chanpon and it was a very good broth. Usually ramen has pork, so she enjoyed that this ramen had seafood (shrimp, scallop, and squid). Horrible experience. This place used to be a staple for me and my friends, we would always stop here if we were out in the area. I haven't been in almost a year and I decided to take my girlfriend for a date here. Instead of the normal relaxed lighting and calm background music I was used to, it was bright LED lights, loud music, fans on, and just didn't feel like how it was. That however was not the issue. I've always been a huge fan of Ebisu. I started coming here about 13/14 years ago. I introduced my husband to this restaurant and we usually get take out. We decided to dine in for dinner on 7/24/2024. Our server was incredibly enthusiastic, friendly, attentive, and thoughtful. I wish I remembered his name. He made our experience an absolute delight! For drinks, my husband ordered a Japanese beer (I forget the exact one) and I ordered the Spicy Thai martini with Thai chili infused vodka! It was a very well balanced cocktail and I would order it again. I'm excited to try their other cocktail offerings during future visits. We started with the Geso (sauteed squid tentacles in teriyaki) and Korean pork belly with spicy miso sauce & kimchee. They both came out quickly and were delicious. My husband is a chef and was raving about the kimchi. He says it's some of the best he's had and I agree! For entrees, we both went with the 'build your own ramen' option. We always get their ramen here because it's so good. I love that they offer gluten free options as well. There was an abundance of toppings. Their portions are huge too! My husband almost finished the entire bowl in one sitting! We both got the 30+ hour Tonkotsu broth. It's seriously some of the best ramen and broth I've ever had. In the past I've also tried their shabu shabu (hot pot) which is so fun to do with friends and is absolutely delicious. For the quality of food, drinks and service, we expected a decent sized bill but their prices are so incredibly fair and well worth it! Their quality of food is very fresh and flavorful. You can tell that the chefs know what they are doing and care about their craft. I'm considering coming back this weekend to try some more apps and entrees! Their ambiance is very relaxing. I love that they don't have blaring lights. It feels like a cozy lounge where you can hang out and enjoy assorted apps with friends without the hustle-and-bustle that a lot of other restaurants tend to have. The music is the perfect level to hold a conversation as well. Their bar is set up nicely and it seems well organized overall. I would highly recommend Ebisu. They have some of the best Japanese cuisine I've had on the East Coast. They have remained consistent for over a 13+ years I've been coming here whether you dine in or order take out. Headed out for dinner last night at Ebisu without knowing much other than what I read on YELP! The place itself is fine, nicely set out and clean, but the service and the food were exceptional! First, I cannot say enough about our server, maybe the best ever in that they were willing to indulge our multiple questions, seemed to give real thought to their feedback and had a charming and dramatic flair when describing different beers and dishes. The food was incredible; memorable, excellently prepared, generous and delicious. I was with two people who shared a hot pot. They went with the Surf and Turf; with bowls of tofu, vegetables and noodles, a ponzu and a sesame sauce, and a big platter of thinly sliced steak and a great variety of fish...and they loved it I ordered chicken katsu over curry and chose an edamame and potato crouquet and a green salad as sides. The katsu was a big and generous cutlet, and the curry sauce was excellent, but touches like each and every vegetable in this dish, from zucchini to carrots to yellow squash were cut in fanciful heart and flower shapes did not go unnoticed. Completely unnecessary, but indicative of the love and care the kitchen puts into each dish. We shared a fried green tea ice cream for dessert. It was fantastic and definitely big enough to share, we all LOVED it. I found Ebisu through Yelp and I couldn't have been more pleased with my experience. The waitress was very friendly and was able to tell us about the different options on the menu. We started with the Spicy Honey Chicken Buns....OMG! The buns were warm and super soft. The flavors of the sweet and slightly spicy sauce was incredible. The crispness of the chicken on the outside and juiciness on the inside paired with the soft bun!!! I would go back just for these! The Ramen definitely rates with some of the best I've ever had. We got the level two spice and it was fine. The spice was more at the back of your throat and if you drank the broth slowly you didn't cough. The pork was served on the side and was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The chicken wings were another good choice, different from the typical chicken wings we are used to and the Ika was something I have never heard of so we gave it a shot. The IKA was tender and had enough flavor, but I added some of the soy that was on the tabletop to give it a boost, which is how I think it is traditionally served in Japan? The chicken wings were also cooked to perfection and I liked how they garnished with the jalapenos. I tried the warm house sake and the Green Hornet with our appetizers and then transitioned to the Japanese IPA, in which I was really impressed with. Decent food here! My friend just got the karrage and it tasted great and paired well with the sauces provided. My other friend and so split shabu shabu (hot pot) and it was just decent. We got the meat combo and the portions were good, and the veg add ons were good too. I wish the broth was a little more flavorful and there were sauce options for dipping but it was otherwise good. The food was so comforting and made with pure love. I know this because every single bite I put into my mouth was exploding with complex flavors and textures. From the Vietnamese pork buns and chicken wing appetizers to the customers ramen bowls- everything was good! The portions were plentiful and we left very full. We also had the miso donuts for dessert which were served warm and fresh.
