Very friendly and helpful service as I was quickly seated at bar and provided with some awesome recommendations with the miso salad and ragu. The ragu was phenomenal with perfect combination of fresh noodles, combo of meats and a bit of spice that gives it a little extra kick. First time in Prov and found this local gem just around the corner from my hotel. I ordered the PVD Chicken ramen and a milk tea iced. Both amazingly delicious! The broth was rich and perfectly portion with oodles of noodles. The chicken was savory with a perfect miso egg. I think I would've liked more bean sprouts, but overall a good choice for dinner. The teas are usually served hot, but you can request them iced. I recommend ordering that first with appetizers since it takes time to brew. I went as part of a group of 4 for dinner. We shared some tempura shrimp, salmon, and dumplings to start. The tempura shrimp was delicious! As a main, I got katsu pork and it was delicious and a good size. I didn't even eat the rice that came with it. The presentation was also beautiful. I tried my husband's ramen, and really enjoyed the flavors in that dish as well. We finished with sesame ice cream, which was served on a very cute fish dish. We also had some Yuzu Honey tea, which was a lovely addition to the meal. Splitting a pot between two worked well, but it could also be easily finished by one. If you're a vegetarian, I'd suggest skipping this restaurant. Went in last night for dinner wanting a soup because it was cold out. The server said there was really only one option on the menu for vegetarians which is what I ordered. The food is served luke warm and for $15 I'm pretty sure I could have made this same dish at home for much cheaper and probably better. It has a spicy chili oil on the side that you mix in along with the pickled radish which was more salty than pickled tasting. One bunch of noodles wasn't properly cooked and clumped at a section. I consider myself pretty good eating with chopsticks and the slippery noodles proved to be quite difficult to eat. Not a good option if you're on a date and maybe concerned with how you will look eating this dish. Probably the saving grace of the dish was the mushrooms which allowed me to give this place 3 stars. There's convenient street parking right near the restaurant, and if that's full, there's also a garage close by. Hubby and I went, here on a whim before seeing a show at PPAC, and I feel like we hit the jackpot! We alerted them as soon as we sat that we didn't have a lot of time, and they were very helpful guiding us towards dishes that wouldn't take as long to be ready. While we waited for our food, I enjoyed some house sake and my husband had a Japanese beer; both pretty good. I ended up getting the spicy scallion noodles and my husband got the chicken Ramen. Can't say enough about how delicious it all was. Probably the best noodles we've had in ages. I guess my only complaint would be that the name "spicy noodles" was a little misleading because it definitely wasn't spicy at all. Now, people say my "spice" is broken, but I had hubby take a taste, and he agreed that there wasn't nearly enough heat to this dish to be called spicy. But regardless, it was delicious! I highly suggest getting the runny egg with it as it definitely made it so much better. Staff is very friendly. Service was prompt. Never disappointed with the food at PVD Noodle Bar. Their Agedashi Tofu is literally the ONLY tofu I will eat... in fact, I actually crave it sometimes. They have an assortment of starters, all delicious, and both cold and hot noodle dishes for every taste. They also have add-ons, like tempura shrimp, to elevate your meal. Dessert consists of two types of ice cream, black sesame seed or green matcha. They serve sake and and have a relatively large cocktail list. Prices are extremely reasonable for the quality and quantity of food received. Service is always good. The restaurant is cozy and their serving dishes are beautiful. I would like to see a larger selection of wine, as they currently only serve Prosecco. read more

Had to try this place. I have read the Yelp reviews and it is so close to PPAC. My wife and I decided to have dinner before the show. We had no reservation but we sat at the bar around 6 PM on a Saturday. I will say the conclusion first - I definitely recommend the Sumo Katsudon. As the name suggests, the portions are huge. I was able to finish only half of it. The rest became my lunch the next day. The presentation is interesting and new twist to a popular classics you find in Japan. The next time here, I will try other dishes. The katsudon dish came with a big portion of thick cut, very tender pork cutlet, served over egg brown sauce and rice. The presentation was similar to "omu rice" you find in a restaurant in Japan, where seasoned rice is wrapped inside omelette, sits in a shallow bath of brown sauce. Perhaps, that is where the inspiration for the Sumo Katsu came from. I think it is a clever and great presentation. The only thing that subtracted from the perfect 5 was the condiments on the side. I was not wild about the grape tomatoes, pickled onion and some sort of chimi. Those condiments came with every dish - sort of shame because we did not like them. My wife had the chicken ramen. The broth was very flavorful with lots of umami, but the noodle was so so in my opinion. This is just my personal preference to have Sapporo style noodles. Some folks I am sure will like the noodle that came with this ramen. One thing I did expect and I am not sure if it worked - the chicken was presented to us like yakitori in a skewer. Also, the toppings were on separate demi dish. I guess if you want to pick and choose which toppings you want, it is clever presentation, but inconvenient when you just want to dig in and slurp your noodles. Last Providence food review for a while, but I had a blast going to Providence Noodle Bar located at 187 Mathewson St, Providence, RI 02903. For a cocktail, we tried their Strawberry Seoul ($8.00) . It includes Rooibos Tea, Vanilla Bean Syrup, Lemon Juice, Strawberry Purée, Ginger Ale, and Soju. You can choose your sweetness level: low, medium, or high. It's also available as a mocktail. I loved how refreshing this was! For food, we got the Ika Ponzu Salad ($7.00) . It features blanched calamari, edamame, marinated cherry tomato, pickled red onion, cilantro, spring mix salad, ponzu sauce, and yuzu kosho. Everyone loved this dish--an easy 10/10. We tried their spicy scallion noodles --these were sooooo good! I need to know where to buy these types of noodles. Easily the star dish, 10/10. We got to try their PVD Chicken Ramen ($16.00) . It includes confit chicken, ramen noodles, chicken karaage skewer, house-made shoyu chicken broth, onsen egg, scallion onion, wood ear mushroom, toasted seaweed, and spicy miso paste. Loved the ramen, and the chicken was delicious. 9/10. We had their Chashu Don --pork belly chashu served over rice with spicy shichimi aioli, lemon, and pickled ginger as sides. The pork literally glistened and had amazing flavor. 9/10. Finally, we got to try their soba noodles . Loved this, and the broth had great flavor. 8/10. LOCATION: Street parking only with a few garages close by, Pvd is located in a quiet side street but easy to find. SPACE: A cozy restaurant with a few tables and bar seating. There is a large table for either large groups or serves as a table to share with other small parties. MENU: As the restaurant name suggests, they offer many noodle dishes; from soba to udon to ramen. There are also a few apps as well! FOOD: I ordered the udon with egg and shrimp tempura. The udon was too hard for liking - I think they needed to cook it 30 seconds longer. My partner liked his spicy scallion noodles. My favorite part of the meal was the marinated egg so I highly recommended adding that to any dish. For apps, we went with the potato croquette and it was very flavorful. PVD Noodle Bar is a fairly new restaurant that opened in downtown Providence. I came here on a Saturday evening at 5:00pm though we had reservations for 7:30pm. I was hoping they would take us earlier. The host said we can have table as long as we finish in 45 minutes. It was easy to make a reservation by sending a DM through Instagram @PVDNoodleBar the day before. They responded very quickly. Good thing we had reservations though. Some groups were turned away because they didn't have a reservation. We started with the potato koroke and agedashi tofu. The potato koroke stuffing was filling and it was very good. The sauce of the agedashi tofu was very good. The outside of the agedashi tofu was soft and fried. However, the filling of the agedashi tofu wasn't very flavorful. We shared the spicy scallion noodle. It came in a big bowl. The pairings are seaweed, mushrooms, bean sprouts, and the spicy sauce. The pairings are unlimited. The dry Shanxi noodles reminded me of lasagna noodles. It also comes with marinated tempura portobello. I didn't really enjoy the tempura portobello. I definitely want to come back to try their ramen. Service was wonderful. read more

Probably the best noodle shop in Providence. Got the PVD chicken ramen. It was amazing and one of the best I've tried in the US. The shoyu broth wasn't too overwhelming or salty, and the chicken pieces were mostly nice and tender. Some of them came a little dry. It also came with a chicken skewer, something that most other ramen places don't offer. The shoyu broth is better than what's offered in Hironori. There was a lot of noodles, and one portion is pretty filling. The noodles were on the thicker end and had a chewy texture. The spicy miso sauce is pretty intense so don't add too much at once. The server was nice and even let me borrow a phone charger line. New restaurant in town, right next to Ellie's. I love the story behind the restaurant. The interiors and ambiance are lovely. We came here on a weekday, and the restaurant was packed. Appetizers are not 50% off anymore. We got the karaage, spicy scallion noodles, and chicken ramen. They didn't have the sumo katsudon when we went. The karaage was delicious; the chicken was moist and perfectly cooked, and the dipping sauces were excellent. The spicy scallion noodles were pretty good; I appreciated that Nicole also told us how to combine the different sides into the dish. Not sure about the tempura portobello though it's a good option for vegetarians. The flavors and the noodles in the chicken ramen were delicious. The ramen also comes with chicken karaage. I also got the gin cocktail which was refreshing, light, floral, and not sweet. Overall very good experience. Service was ok, though there's only 2 or 3 employees doing everything. Visited PVD Noodle Bar late night. Pretty simple menu and really reasonable prices. I had the Spicy Scallion Noodles (Shanxi) with grilled mushrooms, which comes with a side of Hijiki seaweed, bean sprouts, and chili oil. Vegan friendly. Dry noodles, no broth. Just how I like it. Delicious. Also added a chicken yakitori skewer on the side for some protein. ($5) The menu does offer drink pairing suggestions with their entrees - but I paired my meal with the Strawberry Seoul. Service was fast. It is an open kitchen, so you can see the chefs crafting your meal. It is a small space, so reservations are usually required. Absolutely incredible food! The portions are enormous. I would say one entree could be comfortably shared between two people. Their prices are insanely affordable for the amount of food you're getting. The menu is focused and specific, which shows that there is attention to the quality of each dish. There are pairings with every dish (sauces, scallions, onions, tomatoes--all within your control over how much you want to top your dish). The Sumo Katsudon (the name matches its portion: 16 oz of meat) of pork was enormous, juicy, fatty, and lightly fried in its breading. The agedashi tofu was piled high with toppings and the sauce was so flavorful. The marinated tempura portobello in the noodles are also delightful in texture and flavor. The restaurant fills a hole that Providence has in experimental Japanese/Asian food, since the recent closings of other well-known Asian restaurants. I would say this is easily one of my favorite food experiences here in Providence and I'm excited for more people to try it. read more

We came at 11pm for a late dinner; this place gets an extra point for being open late. The tonkatsu was sold out for the day, and so we ordered the Pvd Chicken Ramen, Spicy Scallion Noodles, and Karaage Chicken. I like the many mini side dishes that came with each item. The ramen was ok, but it didn't hit the spot for me. I felt that the broth was a little lacking in flavor. But also, personally, I do not like chicken in soups. I like the spicy scallion (rice) noodles! It's like dipping noodles, but the noodles are warm. I got to use as much (or as little) of the sauce with the noodles as I wanted. I didn't read properly, so this was a vegetarian dish. While the crunchy deep fried mushroom was yummy, I was left wanting dark meat or more mushroom to go with it. The karaage was very delicious. Nice and crunchy on the outside, with a nice juicy and soft texture on the inside. We also ordered a green tea ice cream mochi for $2 for dessert. It was really not good... (the ones I get from the grocery store are much better.) Customer service was good! Vibe is casual. Overall, I think the food was decent even though I wasn't wowed by it.
