Ordered their tonkatsu ramen -- broth was rich but a bit heavy on the ginger flavor, miso ramen was a bit salty, and their yaki udon was delicious. My girl and I went to the restaurant since it was close to the convention center in RI! It was just a 5-minute walk to get there! Great location! It might be hard to find parking if you're not parking at the CC. Their ramen isn't authentic (it doesn't really taste like traditional ramen). More of a contemporary fusion Japanese/American ramen. But they tasted GOOD!!!! I liked how they made these taste. My girl liked her ramen so much. Their service was great. Super friendly & deaf-friendly for sure. I've eaten at many ramen noodle restaurants. Unfortunately the ramen here is just 6.5 / 10 for me. The noodle texture was correct. But the broth was a bit watery and lacking in flavor. My husband makes better pork belly than the restaurant. Don't get me wrong, the pork belly was still good, but I've had better. Also they only give you half of an egg, which was a little stingy, considering the price of the dish. Similarly the takoyaki was 6/10. Yes, I'm spoiled from having eaten better ones in New York city. Tori Tomo is a hole in the wall Japanese eatery located in downtown Providence. It's casual and decorated with popular Japanese animated movies and anime. There's a few tables for large groups on one side and tables for two on the other side. The menu has a large focus on ramen. They have vegan and vegetarian options, as well as gluten free noodles. Other than ramen, they also serve donburi (rice bowls), katsu sandwiches, and your typical appetizers like edamame, gyoza, and karaage. They even sell liquor! I don't know too many casual ramen spots that serve sake cocktails, wine, and Japanese beer. We ordered the Szechuan wontons ($9 for 6 pieces), Tom Yum Ramen ($16), and Miso Ramen ($16). The wontons were filled with shrimp and pork. They were topped with Szechuan sauce, corn, spinach, shiitake, and beansprouts. This app was average tasting. The filling wasn't very flavorful. The spicy sauce overpowered most of the other ingredients. As for the ramen bowls, the portion sizes were more than enough. All bowls come with half of a soft boiled egg, spinach, bean sprouts, scallions, spice and sesame seeds. Protein choices include chicken, pork belly, beef, or shrimp. The broth for the Tom Yum ramen was very good and tasted exactly like the classic Thai soup. It packed a lot of heat, spice, and tang. There were notes of mushroom, caramelized onion, lemongrass, Thai chili, cilantro, and lime. The broth for the Miso ramen was savory and umami - but it wasn't as rich or deep as it should have been. The pork belly was tender, but needed more seasoning or longer marination time. I'm disappointed with the noodles. They looked and tasted like they came from the cheap Instant Ramen packages. As I sit here thinking of what to write, the words "good stuff" come to mind. There is nothing mind-blowing about Tori Tomo, but at the same time, I don't have any complaints. I ordered the pork belly bun and the miso ramen. Decided to keep it simple today. The pork belly bun was likable with great savory-salty flavors, but a little sauce would have been welcome. The meat was tenderish but did not melt in your mouth. I also liked the pickles that added crispness and acid and would have loved some more. Also, a quick note: I ordered these with the tea egg (there is an option without), and while great on its own, together with the bao, it seems extra and unnecessary. The ramen was similarly solid and had a very flavorful broth with a pleasant texture. The noodles were great, and the pork belly pieces within were very tender and did melt in your mouth. While I would not have minded a bit of extra protein (who does?), it was well-balanced. It had a fair amount of vegetables in the form of bean sprouts and very flavorful mushrooms. The broth's heartiness made me forget that more pork would've been welcome. As for the service, I found it to be attentive and speedy. The location, meanwhile, is small but inviting and trendy (goodness, I hope I'm using this word right). While I may not return to Rhody for this place, do take notice of Tori Tomo if you're nearby looking for a solid bowl of Ramen at a reasonable price. read more

Honestly such terrible service. Boyfriend and I went there for the first time and it wasn't very busy. Waitress sat us down next to her station, and another table right after us. We looked over the menu for 5-7 minutes and it was very obvious when we were ready because we were right next to her and she could see and hear us, but she was dancing around and on her phone. Then, she went and closed out another table which was fine until she immediately went and took the order of the table that came after us--never even acknowledged us. She took their order and started bussing the table right next to us. I finally spoke up and kindly asked if we could order, and she ignored us. Mind you, she was not even a foot away from us. I'm sold. I stopped by for lunch to satisfy a ramen craving when I was too lazy to walk a bit further and uphill to another ramen spot I had previously tried. I'm so glad I did! Not only is it a cozy and cute spot, but the menu is quite dynamic, and the food I tried so far was excellent! I opted for the miso ramen and it was absolutely delicious. I'm pretty particular about my pork belly too, and I found it was a perfectly melt-in-your-mouth texture and I would happily order this dish again in the future. I found many other menu items appealing as well, and I definitely plan to come back to try more of the menu, although I'm pretty sure I will be tempted to just keep ordering the same ramen I so enjoyed at today's lunch. read more
