This was my first adventure teeing off outside my home state of Florida. It was simply breaktaking (probably had a tiny bit to do with the weather). From the entrance to the 1st tee was amazing. Didn't think it could get much better, but it did. Got to spend some QT with my brother. We finished alot faster than we had anticipated so we got to enjoy lunch on site. Logan took exceptional care of us. Drinks and food were both on point. If you find yourself in Alpharetta, this is a place you want to check out. You're welcome. read more

Very nice , challenging golf course. It's pretty so early in to the season, I can imagine how nice will be later when grass will turn green. The course was under aerification alert and the price was right. Great value. The club restaurant is open for lunch and food is available till 3:00pm, but bar is open and drinks available. Great service and the outdoor seating has great view. read more

Echelon Golf Club is a 4-star golf facility, but it's not without its caveats. Golf Magazine and the Atlanta Business Chronicle once ranked Echelon the #1 public course in metro Atlanta. Indeed, the course is great. It's challenging - one of the most difficult in Georgia - and it was in excellent condition when we played. However, the value of a round at this high-end course is questionable when compared to other upper-tier public golf facilities in metro Atlanta. At the time of writing this review, a non-twilight weekend/holiday round at Echelon costs about $90 after tax per person. That's steep when you consider the standard going rate at comparable courses like BridgeMill, Cherokee Run, Cobblestone, The Frog, and Woodmont is about $60-70. Those courses are better values with generally equivalent (and at times, better) practice facilities, clubhouses, and amenities. Bear's Best charges about $100-120 per round, but at least they offer discounted tee times through websites like GolfNow and TeeOff.com. I haven't been able to find any discounted tee times for Echelon. Echelon originally opened in 2006 as the Georgia Tech Club. It was designed by well-known golf architect Rees Jones, the son of Robert Trent Jones and brother of Robert Trent Jones, Jr. Shortly after the Georgia Tech Club opened, the recession hit and the development fell into foreclosure in 2009. It was sold at a fraction of its value in 2013 and reopened as Echelon Golf Club. In order to make more money, the club went from private to public (or "semi-private"). The club operated without a clubhouse until April 1, 2017. The new clubhouse and cart barn look great. It's not grandiose, but still very nice. The cart barn is definitely a nice touch. There's a big circle in front of the clubhouse where you can pull up and drop off your bag to an attendant. The clubhouse is classic and traditional in design, but feels fresh and modern. It's very woody. The restaurant, bar, and grill is spacious with plenty of tables and TVs. There are lots of windows and a covered patio (with fans and TVs) that overlook the 18th green and fairway. At this point in time, the clubhouse still feels bare as far as furnishings and decor go. The men's restroom is refined with a fully enclosed shower and stalls and TVs above the urinals. There are not, however, amenities like toiletries nor an actual locker room (at least, not one that I could find). I did notice they provided free coffee, but there was no free ice nor water. Also, they did not have a golf-shoe-cleaning air gun that I could see, only the manual brush scrubbers. These are the little things I'd expect a $90 course to have, especially when some of the aforementioned less expensive courses have them. The staff is polite and friendly from the cart attendants to the beverage cart lady to the guys in the golf shop to the starter to the greenskeeper (except for when he accidentally turned on a sprinkler and doused us with water). The practice facilities are good. They are located far from the clubhouse with the first tee in between. The driving range is big. It's divided into two sections, one for members and one for non-members. As far as I could tell, the members' range had better club stands and hitting station dividers. There were no benches, water coolers, nor club cleaners. Range balls are included with your round. I expected the quality of the Srixon range balls to be better. The practice short game area is one of the biggest I've seen for a public course in Georgia. There are two large bunkers with greens as well as a third green for chipping and pitching. There's one practice putting green. Overall, like the course, the practice facilities were in terrific shape. As for the course itself, it's a beast. It's Tour-tough from the tips, measuring 7,558 yards with a rating/slope of 77.8/154 -- the toughest public course in metro Atlanta. I do not recommend this course for beginners nor would I recommend it for a leisurely round. This one is for true golf enthusiasts looking for a challenge. That said, play from the appropriate tees. My friends and I are high handicappers (20+). We played from the white tees and really enjoyed our round. From the whites, the course measures 6,025 yards with a 70.0/129 rating/slope. This course has big fairways, big greens, and big bunkers. There are two scenic lakes to contend with on the front nine. The back nine has several holes that play either uphill or downhill practically the entire way. The signature hole is No. 13, a downhill par 4 with a dramatic elevation drop similar to No. 1 on the red nine at Bradshaw Farm. If you've never played this course before, you should play with someone who has or buy a yardage book (if they exist). The fuel-injected Yamaha golf carts do not have GPS and the scorecards and hole markers do not have hole layouts. Course restrooms consist of portable toilets. Curiously, the course is devoid of ball washers. What's up with that? read more

Nice golf course. Not many amenities because the clubhouse isn't fully up and running but the people are great. Easy check-in. Great practice area for putting, chipping and bunker shots with three greens available. One of the best in the city. The downside is that the area is pretty far from the clubhouse, requiring some time management with your tee time. We actually had three carts at the practice area but they said just leave one there when we drove off to start our round. Very accommodating. Starter was great - explained some aspects of the course nicely. We spotted marshals on the course a few times, which is good. We actually let a two-some play through even though we weren't slow. Tough, hilly course. I enjoyed the challenge even though the front nine (the easy nine) slayed me. I did better on the harder back nine. Go figure. Greens are in very good shape and roll true. Very fast. Beverage cart showed up often. No course layout brochure. Some courses have them and at this price, I expect it. Nice golf course. read more

Very well conditioned course, the 1st 9 holes are very scenic and well laid out. The back 9 is a completely different course and feel. Way too many elevation changes, and you can be in the middle of the fairway but have a major lie problem with all the slopes and elevation. Wasnt too fun. Range is decent, there is no clubhouse, just a trailer in a million dollar subdivison that got hit by the real estate crash. Overall the course is nice, but the front 9 is great..and the back 9 is below average but worth playing overall read more

Simply a beautiful track. Not necessarily for a beginner still shooting 102-108 but it was nice being on a well taken care of course. It was very challenging and physically demanding particularly the back nine. Plays long and requires both power and touch as well as strategy for the uphill series on the back nine. No clubhouse and I never saw a beer cart. Once I can consistently play under 90 I will return to conquer this beast. read more

Great condition. Fairways, tees, traps, and greens all in great condition. Best greens in Atlanta area. Well designed course and very challenging. One of the best in the area. I played Echelon along with my son in law on 6/27/18. The pace of play was excellent. We didn't have to wait to tee off and no one was behind us. The staff from the pro shop to the restaurant are polite and service was top notch. The fairways and greens were in great shape. The back 9 has some surprises for you. Update - the new clubhouse was recently finished and is now open for business. This will certainly help the image of the place going forward. The facility is nice but if I were being super critical I would suggest there is a missed opportunity here. The views around the course are simply stunning but the conifer trees at the back of the clubhouse pretty much block everything out, including a view of the 18th green directly below. It's still early days so maybe the management at Echelon plan to do some felling and additional landscaping in the future. I hope so. The course is spectacular and deserves all the trimmings. The course remains the same as before and is possibly the most polarizing of the ones I play at least somewhat regularly. Personally I love it though it beats me up almost every time I play here. The high slope rating is for real so expect to shoot at least 4 or 5 shots more than normal. I have met several golfers who just hate the course at Echelon. I can understand their concerns as trouble can spring up on any hole for even slightly wayward shots. However, if you want to experience a "true championship golf course" and not just one that has been the victim of over zealous marketing, Echelon provides that at a price which will not strain the wallet. read more

This is a great track - especially for public access. If you are within 30 minutes we'll worth the drive. Not many of the houses are built so far so it's a very peaceful trip around a great piece of property. Conditions are good - other than bunkers. My only other compliant would be the routing of the cart paths. Very far from the greens. I played during weekday morning and flew around, but I suspect when busy on weekends it's close to a 4:45 - 5:00 round. Be sure to play the correct tees and if anything err on the side of playing up a tee. Blue tees were a handful. read more

I played this course in March, the greens had been recently aerated, and it had rained the night before. So the course was not in peak condition, and yet we paid $69 plus tax. Ignoring the lack of amenities, I'll focus on the golf. The range was closed due to the rain, they claimed the balls plug, and it's bad for the range, so no warm up. The course was fun and challenging, but some holes were pretty ridiculous, especially on the back nine. The elevation changes were too extreme, either dauntingly up hill, or pointlessly down hill. Also, you're in the middle of no where, and we heard gun shots for most of the back nine. I would not rush back here. read more

Great condition, great greens. The front side is a great 9 hole golf course I would like to play twice. The back side is built on a piece of land wholly unsuited for golf. It has massive elevation changes on nearly every hole, and its not handled very well. Many holes are straight up steep slopes, so much so that you can hit the middle of the fairway and have a steep uphill stance on the next shot. One hole in particular is a 600 yard par five, requiring a strong second shot to get within short iron or wedge distance. The problem is that it is extremely difficult to hit a long solid shot of a strong uphill lie. Its all very strange, given than it is in a high end housing community in the middle of nowhere. It wants to be a private club, which will never happen because it is the type of golf course that you want to play once a year at most, not every day. It also won't happen because the kind of people who want to live in the middle of nowhere are mostly retirees, and retirees don't want to play a golf course this difficult. Simple great course. No pressure to be a pro golfer, just relaxing afternoon hacking at the ball.

I love/hate this course. When my game is on, it is a real test. When it is off, I can't bring enough golf balls. I briefly considered joining, but it is in no way walkable. Maybe for a mountain goat. Not for a golfer. I do like it as a change of pace from my normal track, but I really have to be in the mood for it. Kind of like sushi. The course has a couple of quirky holes that can ruin your day, so tee selection is vital. Just reviewing yardage on the score card is deceiving. 6,552 yards from the blues is a typical good length for me, but over a 10 handicap should really consider the whites, regardless where you play on your home course. The elevation changes make the carded yardage almost meaningless. The new clubhouse is a welcome addition. The gas-powered carts should have speed governors on them and don't, so you can really fly down some of the downhill holes. Be careful. They are a lawsuit waiting to happen. The practice facility is in a weird location, far from the clubhouse, and past the 1st tee. So, if you're a member just coming to practice, you need a cart to get to the practice tee, which I think is inconvenient. It's also really hard to tell how far you've hit your shot, because of the terrain. The service from the staff is excellent. Club house staff knows me and what I drink, the course staff clean my clubs after every round, and I don't really play it that often... Other clubs in the area could learn a thing or two (cough cough... Woodmont), but you just got pretty well beaten up by the course, so I guess a little TLC is warranted. read more

Echelon has opened their private course (now managed by Affiniti Golf) for a limited time to the public. All I have to say is WOW! The course is immaculate. I could not find a blemish on the tee boxes, fairways, or greens. A beautiful and exciting layout makes this course a must play. The course has a 32 acre practice facility and is a great place to work on your game. The only negative I could find is they have the pro shop in a trailer which is not a big deal if you are not hung up on amenities. The course is similar to Barnsley Gardens in ways, but is in my opinion more scenic and in better condition. read more

$90 rate in early spring was way too much for course conditions and service received. Aerated greens (normal). Starter told us wrong pin location. Cart path only on this very hilly course was unnecessary as the course was generally dry except for a couple very low areas (I work at a course, so not a novice at this restriction). I ended up taking my bag and walking a lot of holes. No service at clubhouse at turn, nor any beverage cart on the course. Saw one ranger the whole round and he was no help. Worth $90 if paid cart was able to go to ball, starter had good intel, greens grown in and beverage/snack service. read more

I've played Echelon about 15 times. In my opinion, the is the best public course in Atlanta if you are a 15 handicap or better. If you have a higher handicap, you may not like this course if you don't play from the right tee boxes. Staff is always friendly and the course is definitely a challenge, especially if you are playing from the blues or further back. It is always in good shape, although sometimes the sand traps look like they have been neglected (I know the are working on this). It is great to see the new club house finally finished. read more

The golf course itself is a great layout. What a test from the tournament tees! Greens were very nice. I'm a scratch player from Ohio and this place was tough and really long since it was wet. 7500 yards felt more like 8K. Range was closed when I played. Do not play here if it's cart path only. The paths are 20 yards away from the fairway and you'll sometimes be 100yds away from your ball. I quickly got tired of lugging my bag back and forth from the cart. I would've rather just been allowed to walk. Yardage markers are nonexistent and/or difficult to find, so bring a range finder. I would have preferred white flagsticks on the course. The yellow sticks were really hard to see against the trees in the background. I realize that it is November, but I'm making a suggestion. There is no clubhouse, just a trailer... So also no food and beverage. Overall, it was a great golf course but left me wanting more. read more
