Horrible business with rude employees - Initially I came by and they said I could start my reservation at 12:00PM. - I passed a 15 min course to learn that the boat is actually unavailable due to weather; - the guy at the cashier said -- "I'm uncomfortable putting you on a boat because there is an upcoming storm coming" - come back at 3pm. - I called them multiple times between 1:30-2:30 to find out if the weather is ok to rent a boat or not - nobody answered - at 345 a very angry man called me and demanded that I pay for the boat a full price. Very dishonest practice of doing business. Horrible cancelation policy and borderline fraudulent enterprise. I lost $300 despite being told by an employee that it's unsafe for me to take a boat tour: I'll be reporting them to multiple government agencies and will be seeking remedies. Very unfair and dishonest. Avoid at all cost. read more

Rented a boat here and then from another marina on the same lake the next day. The people at the other marina were more professional and prepared, but the boat at Echo Bay was better in every way. I would choose this marina for renting a boat on Lake Candlewood over any other marina that rents boats on the lake. the staff are kids, plenty nice, but just not as on top of stuff. but totally fine. read more

Revised review: Should you run into any problem here, you should reach out to Drew Davies whom is in charge. Be very careful of where you park if you are there for a rental, the gravel area is off limits. It seems that you need to park across the street and then cross to get to the rental office. Some of the staff is young and may not be able to assist you as required so again, see the name of the person above and work with him instead. My experience left much to be desired however, I hope this helps others in the future. read more

I can't say enough about this marina. We had zero experience boating/owning a boat/buying a boat/living on a lake. Every single person in this establishment is fantastic, friendly and helpful. They go out of their way every day to help people that live near the marina. I walked in today for help with a dock (something they do not sell or service) and was given guidance and support (as usual). My husband and I have always had a stellar experience at Echo Bay! We joined the boat club a couple months ago and it's fantastic. You pay a fee up front and get discounted hourly rentals - it's definitely worth it if you plan to go again and again. There's almost always a boat available for us, especially during the week. The boats are always always in great condition, clean and fueled. The staff is always super friendly, fun, and helpful. Sad the season is coming to a close but we will definitely be back next year! read more

picking up our rental was a great experience we even commented on how easy breezy it was & that everyone was nice. when we returned we pulled back in towards the slip where we picked it out & was rudely confronted by the office manager (I was told this was her title). We were supposed to leave the boat @ the beginning of the dock but no one advised of us that. It was an communication error but she spoke so rude to us & the stern tone took with us was mortifying when we got off the boat she actually hid not to speak with us after I asked her to stop being so rude. read more

I cannot express how East it was to do business with Echo Bay Marina. The parking lot is next to the water and then walk down the stairs to sock under first tent on left is the check in. A bunch of young folk have pads and check you in - check the boat - explain basics - and provide other tidbits so don't hesitate to ask them they are all locals. Sure they look 12 but their professionalism is better than most adults. We were loaded and going from the dock in fifteen minutes. Best thing to do is familiarize yourself with where your anchor is, the first aid kit, the ladder, and the cell number of you need to call for tow or help. We rented the 7 person ski boat with tube and knee board. Tube holds two adults. It worked well. The knee board was bad don't waste your money. The boat was great power, excellent steering, easy to use though you will stand most of the time to get a better view. Tying off the tube for pulling was easy their is a center hook. We brought a cooler and a box for music. Also we brought our own life jackets but they have ones you can borrow. Rented from 1 to 4:30. We left chicken rock at 4. Took one tube soon and ended back at the marina by 4:25. Get there with ten min to spare as everyone is coning back that rented the boats and the parking lot gets busy. Overall $300 with tax. $30 for drinks and ice. $20 for snacks and sandwiches. $350 for 3 1/2 hours of the lake? It's well worth it. Echo Bay. Well done. read more

We joined this Marina's boat club last August with a one year contract. This summer when we went to rent a boat we were told we had cancelled our contract, which was not true. They would not honor the contract, nor did we receive any refund. The manager then said he would give us the price of last year's contract off the price of a new contract this year in May, which was double the price of last year. So basically we were out 3 months on the last contract and out around $250. We had good experiences last year and it has been a tough year for everyone, so we went along with this even though it seemed unethical. Since then we have only been able to get a rental boat once. Even trying to book 2 weeks out there is nothing available. So, the contract price doubled and they don't have the capacity to meet the needs of those contracts. Poor business and a huge disappointment. Be aware when joining the boat club that they do not have the capacity to make good on the contract promises they make. We will be looking at other options for next year. read more

We had a great time on the boat but unfortunately need to give them a negative review. Not a single employee wearing a mask in the midst of a pandemic. The young kids working the boats jumped on for docking and there was no attempt at social distancing. Even when encouraged to wear a mask, there was no response. No manager on site to speak to. This place is awful..we called the morning before we went and they quoted us $210 for a half day..let me first say that when we got there they treated us like dumb teenagers .. they gave us a boat with no canopy .. we bought the fun pack which included a tube and water skis but we couldn't take the water skis bc the kid couldn't open the compartment on the boat...we had a great time on the boat but came back to a $400 bill! They not only lied about the price but they altered a signed contract while we were out and changed the price that was initally written as $210 to $270...thinking they could get away with it...they use a 3 page carbon receipt, one to take on the boat with us and they kept the other two...when we came back we noticed that an employee took a pencil and wrote a 7 over the 1 to change it to $270...what they obviously forgot is that we had our signed copy on us and you better believe we got a full refund...we were all in complete awe that a company would alter a legal signed contract and try to steal money from there customers...before we had proof of the mistake they treated us like idiots when we said we were quoted the wrong price..the one girl working was like "well look.in the brochures, your wrong" .. needless to say I would not recommend going to.this place, there's better marinas in the area with honest workers. read more

Im going to give 4 stars because the boat and the lake was awesome. However, I dealt with a lovely worker when we first arrived there, I wish I would have took everyone's names. The 2 females I dealt with on check out however I could not say the same.. While I was speaking with one worker on why I was charged $175.00 late fee charge.. The other female(says she was a supervisor) felt the need to answer all my questions that I was asking the female employee in front of me. If your going to speak to customer you should speak to them directly and not with a nasty attitude from behind the other employee. So I paid the late fee charge because they were giving me no other option when the the employee from the morning had already told us as long as they saw us in the bay coming in we were good (she was very nice). Anyway we ended up speaking to a manager ABOVE her and he took off $125.00 as a first time courtesy and we ended up just paying $50 late charge which was way better than almost $200... We want to Thank him so much for his hospitality and working with us to fix the situation. We will definitely be back again because of him and the female from the morning. Boats and lake are great! Hopefully next time that "supervisor" female will be having a better day and attitude :-) read more

I have bought 4 boats from Echo Bay. Marc and Bart are top notch guys. They are very professional and knowledgeable. The stigma of the "typical sales person" is not what you get at Echo Bay. They don't push things on you and won't let you buy the wrong boat. They realize that good business starts with a relationship and trust and they certainly have mine. I buy Mastercraft and have two local dealers within an hour's drive of me. I go right past them and drive 3 hours just to do business with these guys. I will not buy a boat anywhere else... I recommend them to anyone and everyone! read more

Called this place Friday morning, Asked How much it would be to rent a boat half day, they told me 210 over the phone. Got there and Agreed to get the "fun package" which is a tube and water skis. They could not open the compartment to put the skis in so didn't get to bring them, the boat that was missing the canopy. Went out had a great time, but when we came back the bill was $387. they forgot to mention that on weekends it is 270 to rent, and we had to pay for gas...@ $5 a gallon. So we paid almost 400 for a sunburn and a shitty boat for not even a full half day, never going back. read more

We just spent a great weekend in Candlewood and rented on both days from Echo Bay. We've had too many experiences in the past with boat rentals that have broken down, but Echo Bay has a great reputation locally so I was sure to book well in advance to secure a reservation (they only have 10 boats; their predominant business comes from the marina). Both boats (a ski boat and a pontoon) were clean and in good working order. The "fun package" (tube and skis) was a bit pricey at $50, but what can you do. If you have members of your group that are 190 pounds or above, you may want to upgrade your horsepower or you may have trouble getting up on skis. Pat (I think she's the owner) was an absolute doll. So friendly, and you can tell that she really loves seeing her customers happy. We're thinking about making Lake Candlewood a regular trip, and we would definitely make Echo Bay a part of that. read more

I've decided to write this review because it isn't too often that the good gets appraised. My boyfriend and I were looking into purchasing our first boat the summer of 2011. We found some brochures from a boat show in Hartford and decided to take a drive down to Candlewood Lake to check out some of the marinas. Our final stop was Echo Bay Marina. We browsed through and ended up working with Mark Medrano. He is an excellent salesperson. We felt that Mark was a very genuine and honest person, not to mention easy to talk to. He provided us with all of the information we were looking for as far as brands are concerned. He offered to take us out on a boat to give us a true experience of what it would be like if we purchased this brand. To our surprise, Mark and others even hung around with us after closing hours which we weren't aware of and didn't feel the slightest bit of pressure to leave. Even though we decided to purchase a different brand than the ones Echo Bay has for sale we want to commend Mark on his excellent customer service! Two years later we are at the Hartford boat show again and we see Mark. We approached him to let him know how much we appreciated his time and service even though we didn't purchase from him. Again, Mark was very sincere in our boating abilities and offered services to us that no other marina has! If the marina offered Larson's then I'm sure our purchase would have been made at Echo Bay. We would consider renting a dock slip for the season if it wasn't for the 1 hr commute. Please ask for Mark if you are considering any business from Echo Bay, I'm sure you'll be taken care of remarkably! read more

This place is awful. The boat we got was a piece of you know what. It kept stalling after an hour of being on the water. We went 15 min over the time we were supposed to be back and got atleast 5 calls from them demanding that we return the boat. We did not think it was a big deal because when we were signing the contract they told us its an extra $50 for every half hour we go over. Since it was only $50 and we had a few family member with us we decided to go to the rock to jump off and decided we can all easily pay the extra $50 because we were having a good time swimming. When we got back they treated us like criminals and told us that they all have lives and dont want to stay past 5:00. If we knew that they all had plans right after work we would have been back, but since they told us its just $50 if we go longer we didnt think it'd be a big deal. I had friends and family in town and was completely embarressed that i took them to a place that does not care about their customers. All they care about is getting the money and treating people like crap. I should have listened to the "filtered" comments but instead thought i'd give them a try. NEVER again will i go here and i will make sure to tell my friends and family to avoid this place at all cost. read more
