This was a great end to my work trip! I came here yesterday with the hopes of renting something to get on the water but was a bit too late after my work day. Taylor at the front was so helpful! Since i wasn't going to get the full use of my time I decided to come back the next day. But Taylor pulled out the map, and started to give me all tons of local things to do, which I did that same night!Hiking trails, parks, and hitting the Worlds Largest Dairy Store! I then came in the next day to rent the kayak, she remember exactly who I was. The staff was all so great! Everyone here is light hearted and has such a great attitude and Nothing beat being on this lake being a Florida native! It was so peaceful and tranquil and just what i needed! I contacted the marina wanting to get information about either a renting a boat for the summer season, or for information about purchasing. Jay, the professional who helped me most, was wonderful. He gave me a thorough explanation of my options, gave me some suggestions about being successful on the lake because I am a new boater, and he was very responsive. When I first contacted the marina, I did speak with someone who was pretty obnoxious, because I didn't realize that there was a webpage that had an email address on it that I should've used, instead of calling. The gentleman who answered my call was very condescending, and clearly did not want to be burdened by speaking with me. Fortunately, my experience with him was brief. Once I got to Jay, it was a pleasure. I would definitely contact them again in the future. read more

If you want to get extra charges and spoke to in a rude manor then this is the place for you! It does not surprise me that this place has such bad reviews and low ratings. I've used this place a couple times in the past to rent boats. I decided to try again this summer and will NEVER return! The boat had so many things broken on it, the radio did not work, and either did the dial that is supposed to tell me the speed I am going ( you'd think that's important). When I brought this to the attention of the front desk I was told not to worry about it. When getting onto the boat with friends we had coolers and bags with us as most boat renters do. It was never told to us that we could not have alcohol on the boat. Anytime I have rented a boat we have had food and beers and had a safe fun time out on the water. I don't see why this is a problem as long as the driver is not drinking but apparently they have a no drink for anyone on the boat rule. About three hours into using the boat, The engine died on us in the middle of the water. And then it began to rain. We called the marina about five times over a two hour period asking for someone to get us. They told us they would come but no one ever came to help. The weather was getting so bad that it was actually dangerous on the water. Another boat going by offered to tow us back so we let them. What other choice did we have? When we finally got back to the marina this horribly rude woman decides to charge us for having alcohol on the boat, for the dial in the boat no working (which we mentioned the second we got in the boat and they said it was okay), we were charged for the boat breaking down which was not our fault at all, plus a charge for tying our boat to someone else's because apparently that is also something you can't do. Basically this place sucks in all aspects when it comes to renting a boat. they will squeeze you for a lot of extra money at the end. We were not the only group there having a problem like this at the end of the day. People who dock their boats there regularly were sticking up for us as well, agreeing the way they were treating renters was disgusting. The people who work here do not know customer service at all. I asked to speak to the manager who apparently refused to come out of their office. I will never suggest this place to a friend nor will I return myself. Echo bay has a much better group of people working there, no ridiculous rules, and their quality of boats are far better then here! I made an appointment with Jay to see and buy Four Winns boat. When I came there Jay was coughing and met us without a mask. I asked him to wear a mask and he just refused saying that wearing a mask is against people freedom. I turned around and left their business. I'm sure I can't trust such people in any case. So this was my second-year returning to the marina and it only got worse than the previous year. Each year we rented 3 boats from them that could seat a total of 22 people. The first year they rented us a pontoon boat that had a broken gas dial. As a result, the boat ended up running out of gas but not far from the docks. My friends were stuck on the lake for over an hour when they could see the docks and the people either didn't leave yet or somehow couldn't find them and bring them in. This year we again rented 3 boats - 2 ski boats and 1 pontoon. Although the pontoon boat didn't break down this year BOTH of the ski boats broke down and wouldn't start up again. We had to call them from the water and have them come and replace both boats. Even though we rented 'Premium' ski boats the boats they replaced them with were better - Why we didn't get better ski boats that worked from the start idk. As a result of having both ski boats break down, it resulted in a lot of issues that ruined our day on the lake. When we came in and spoke about this issue and how we've rented 6 boats in the last two years and had issues with 3 of them (50 % of our rentals with them) They claimed that their boats never break down - obviously not true. This also came after the fact that their own employees on the dock told us that they know certain boats always have problems with break downs and they continue to rent them out. Why 2 of these boats were rented to one group idk? When the employees at the front desk brought this to their manager and shared that we were obviously upset by this and wanted to work something out he loudly said 'f*ck em' and then proceeded to yell at us to pay or get the hell out. This also comes after a lot of other ridiculous insults to myself and my friends. Be careful with this place. We rented a boat for the day, and we were very easy with it. When we got back, the guy spent a strange amount of time checking the prop and said something was broken. He got another guy who told me that we had broken the cavitation plate. There was no chance it was our fault. I had taken pictures in the morning that showed the piece there before. Somehow, the same guy did not see it when he checked us out, but he saw it when we was looking for damages. I read reviews about Gerard's trying to scam people, but I did not believe them until then. My friends and I choose to rent a pontoon for the entirety of the day. We didn't have any issues with boarding the boat and the staff was friendly. After disembarking the boat, we were told that we destroyed an item under the boat. It seemed strange that novice boat renters would be held accountable for an item that would inevitably be beat up by items in the lake. We had not taken pictures of the item before and after, so it felt we were being advantage of. The staff then became irate when we refused to pay the additional cost. NEVER, NEVER AGAIN. We have been traveling to Candlewood Lake from NY for almost a decade. We are a very honest, respectful, appreciative family. We were just told upon requesting to rent a pontoon, as we do from Gerard's every single year, that we were on their "BLACKLIST." The girl I spoke with there on the phone interviewed me like I was a criminal with something to hide. Last year we were stranded with a pontoon that had a faulty starter. We were stranded for quite a while on the lake. They came to rescue us and we were polite and appreciative. Two days ago I was told that she would "allow" us to rent again if I promised that we were polite to the guys who rescued us last year. She repeatedly grilled me about how we treated their employees. I've been going here for boat/tube rentals for a while now with my family and we really liked it. However on my last visit we ended up getting lost on the lake(its quite big) and arrived 44 min late. They charged us $250 extra for being late for getting lost!! So basically using their boat for a few hours cost us close to $700!! They were tremendous sticklers! They kept saying 'well its in the contract we should've charged you more'. Really?? Is that how you want to run your business. They gave us no grace period and we left very very unhappy. VERY BIG WARNING: if you go here bring the boat back on time unless you like spending $700-800 to use their boat. I made a reservation for a Premium Pontoon boat on June 9th with Nicole. She explained to me that if I cancelled or moved the reservation 3 days prior to the reservation date I was responsible for the $50, If i Cancelled or moved the reservation 3 days within the reservation date I was responsible for the full amount. I asked that if I called before the 3 days I would not be charged the full amount. She said yes. This is where things get tricky and quite honestly confusing because their written policy and knowledge of it does not coincide. NOTE: My reservation date was for Sunday, June 15th I had a major family emergency on Wednesday night June 11th. It was late and the Marina was closed. I set to call them 1st thing Thursday Morning (4 days within my reservation date, 3 days prior to my reservation date). My first call was at 10:10am to let them know I had an emergency and wanted to make sure that my penalty was only the $50. Nicole proceeds to let me know that I am responsible for the full $450. I cried. A lot. Because I did not have that money now that I had an unexpected Family emergency. She did not care and the conversation ended in me telling her that I was going to call her back. I tried to get others to go on the boat and reimburse me so that I would not loose that money. All of this mind you, before I realized that I had cancelled with MORE THAN ENOUGH TIME TO NOT GET CHARGED!. I called at 10:36 am to let her know I was going to try and find some folks to get on the boat. Anyway, the weekend comes along and no one can get on the boat. I start going through their site and the email confirmation and realize,: "wait a minute I cancelled with in the time they allow for me to NOT GET CHARGED!" They do not voice and or understand heir policy at all! This is the Policy copied and pasted from their site: "From the moment the boat is reserved to three days prior to the reservation date if the rental, for any reason, is cancelled or rescheduled for another date, $50.00 will be charged to the credit card of the renter. If the rental is cancelled or rescheduled within three days of the reservation date, the FULL price for the rental will be charged." 3 Days Prior: Sunday Saturday (Day 1 Prior to Reservation Date) Friday (Day 2 Prior to Reservation Date)) Thursday (Day 3 Prior to Reservation Date) THIS IS WHEN I WANTED TO CANCEL $50 apply here 3 Days Within: Sunday (DAY 1 with in reservation) Saturday (DAY 2 with in reservation) Friday (DAY 3 with in reservation) Thursday ( NOT WITHIN THE RESERVATION DATE POLICY TIME) THIS WAS BEFORE THE POLICY TIME FRAME TO CANCEL. I was told ) had to play the full amount... not true. Please do not rent from this place. ECO BAY is so much nicer! The boats and the people are much much nicer. I was shocked that they did not even sympathize with the family emergency and that they till the very end, argued that I was the one in the wrong. I wanted to come to an agreement to pay less because we couldnt make it Sunday. But Nicole kept saying that it was policy and this is how they have practiced business for years.... I suggested they revisit their contract language and attitude! I cancelled my debit card to not get charged and am proceeding with legal action in case they do. Rented a pontoon boat on a Sunday. They say rental is from 9am-5pm. Their doors don't open until 9am and with their unsystematic method of checking you in I didn't get out on boat until close to 10am. I was 4th person in line when they opened their doors but staff let the first person in line have their 5 friends cut line even though they were separate rentals on separate credit cards. When they have a line they should have a better method of checking people in by the order in which they are in line--just a basic societal guideline. Their idea of parking is to have renters park in small lot for Pikes Peak, a recreation area open to public. When it filled up at 9:15am they have you park nearly half mile away with no shuttle. This is something they should let customers be aware of prior to renting. Pontoon boat had garbage under seats that was not cleaned out from previous rental. Less than 30 minutes into ride across lake boat began to shake. Since we were about to anchor for the day and already behind schedule due to check in, we enjoyed the rest of the day and didn't bother to call marina. (Learned that even if I had called when noticed the shaking, I'd still have to pay for whatever needed to be fixed, so at least I didn't lose more time on my rental by calling them). Driving back to marina was slow going, definitely something wrong with boat. Upon inspection while returning it was missing one blade of propeller and the welded fin at front was missing. These pieces were there upon inspection leaving marina, but mysteriously gone although boat did not hit anything. One blade gone with no damage to other two on prop, and a welded piece of metal ripped off from simply driving the pontoon. I'd be very curious to see their repair log on that boat. They were very friendly considering they were thinking I damaged their boat. Will I rent there again--probably not. Other reviews I found online reported some prop issues. What should have been a $515 day (after gas and tax) turned into over $850. read more

We've rented a pontoon boat from this company for the last several years. Some very rude and not pleasant people that work their. They treat you like garbage. Every year when we returned the boat they would try to find a reason to charge us extra. Ie-seats had juice spilled on them, returned 15 minutes late, used too much gas, etc. every year it was something else. And they try to charge you anywhere from $50-$500 extra depending on the reason they come up with. Since they have your credit card, they 'tell' you what they are going to charge and it's not an option. We only went back since they have a large selection and good availability. April came and went- may came and went- Memorial Day came and went and they still tell us that our boat is not available. Worst customer service I have ever experienced. I rented a platoon boat with my family for a full day. We were told that the regular platoons were sold out and only a premium platoon was available which we booked. This boat cost 100 dollars more but held the same number of people and had a bigger engine. Upon checking in the lady said to switch the boat from one premium to another but did not say why. We were given a boat with scratches and dents all over the boat, a whistle for a horn, and both a broken front and back door. We were also given an anchor that was much smaller than the regular platoon boats and the anchor would not catch. We called for assistance and after an attitude and a lunch break for the staff we were given a new anchor. Upon arriving back to the dock, the staff tried to say we broke the door but they finally found the employee who said yes it was broken to start with. When we did say that we felt the price increase was not warranted we were told well no one else has a problem and the boat is a 2013. I'm like just because something is new doesn't mean it isn't damaged. With out even offering an apology the manager I guess since he never stated who he was caught an attitude and said well your paying for the engine to go faster. I said I had my five year old on the boat and how can I possibly go faster with the front and back door flying open. All he said was its your job to watch him we gave him a life jacket. What happened to the customer is always right. I paid for this service so you didn't give me anything but aggravation and a bad review. read more

We actually had a great day out on candlewood lake this past weekend. The boat was not the newest boat but worked just fine for waterskiing and tubing. We had an issue with the anchor provided with the boat. It did not work at all. Here was the sequence of events once we knew the anchor didn't work. 1. We drove back to the dock and told the guys on the dock the issue. They said to keep trying so we did. 2. We tried all day and it was not working. Because of this, we had to keep the motor running the entire day and shift around when trying to anchor near the rope swings - therefore spending much more than expected on gas. 3. After returning the boat and telling the guys on the dock about the anchor again, they said to let the front desk know. 4. We calmly told the women at the front desk - who were more than understanding and very kind. One said she had to get Jeremy (assuming he is either the manager or owner). 5. Jeremy came storming to the front desk and blew up at us (we hadn't gotten a word out). The absolute worst customer service I have ever seen. I literally had to tell him to take a breathe and calm down - this wasn't a life or death situation. He yelled that he could not do anything, this isn't his fault, we should've called him and that the guys on the dock (who work for him) do not communicate issues to him. Conclusion: We had a great day out on the boat, however I will never return to give Jeremy our money. He has the worst customer service. If he had just calmly approached the desk and calmly said he is sorry but there is nothing he could, then we would have left content. He clearly was never taught manners and should not be the face of the business. read more

Enjoyed a great day on Candlewood Lake yesterday! The staff at Gerard's we're very friendly and helpful getting us out to start the day. Taylor at the desk helped us manage a large group for two boats and coordinate a time to get back that worked better for the group. Austin at the marina dock was instrumental in making me feel comfortable driving the boat and reminding me of all the controls. The Boats we had were in great condition and my family, friends and I had a great day! Everyone kept saying they can't wait to do it again! My only wish, was that i could have brought my dogs. We rented 3 times from Gerard's and this is the last! I agree with the last person who wrote saying they rent from 9 to 5 but you can never get the boat at 9 it's always more like 10, we had the same problem and they don't seem to care. Now that's only one reason we are not going back. This week we rented on a Tue so it was slow. It threatened rain in the early afternoon but we figured if it did rain we would go back and they would credit us for the unused hours and come back later in the week. That is what they told us when we called two weeks prior to our rental. Well we had a great lunch at Down the Hatch and it began to rain. So we got on the boat and headed back, wet. On the way back about half way before reaching the marina it poured again and then stopped. We were wet and unhappy. We had 2.5hrs. left and the owner said, "no one else came back". That didn't matter to us, we were soaked! We tried to negotiate saying we'll come back later in the week just give us a small credit for the unused hours. The response was, "the owner said we are not giving anyone credit today". The one thing that kills business is when owners and managers don't care. Unfortunately this is the case with Gerard's. It will catch up with them. If they are tired of dealing with the public they should sell out. There are some really nice employees there but the manager or owner definitely has an attitude! read more

If I could give no stars I would. This place has no management, intelligence and is just plain bad business. Rented a premium boat with 5 of my friends. You pay more than $100 more for a premium, compared to a regular ski boat. So we would expect to get what we paid for. NO WAY!! There was garbage in the boats, beer in the cup holders and the stereo didn't work. The staff took over an hour trying to get it to work, after an hour went by we just said screw it, time is money. We tried to talk to the owner and see if she would give us some kind of break considering the trouble and lack of quality and time lost. She completely lost it. Starting yelling at us and said if you don't want the boat go home!!. I mean, is she serious??? Worst owners I've ever dealt with and business. Never going back. Go to echo bay. Much better marina. The boats were great, the lake was great. The service at this business is horrible. We were a group of 26 spending almost $3000 for the day. Instead of having the boats ready to go they spent almost an hour (of our rental time) checking for damages etc. There were about 6-7 people working but would only assign two employees to help us get life jackets, tubes etc. I think this is the only game in town so they realize they don't have to have good customer service. read more

What a disaster. Buying a boat from them was, in my opinion, a catastrophic mistake. I would never patronize this business again. The entire process was a sloppy, disorganized mess which has left us extremely upset. At one point things were so bad we engaged a lawyer because we thought we would have to sue them -- and we still may. If I was thinking about buying or even renting a boat I would ask myself if I want to go to a business where people are considering litigation against them. Since we may go to the courts, it will be hard to get into details here. I would run away, not walk, run. The owner by the way is, again in my opinion, a totally strange person, hard to communicate with, fast talked everything to us, and from the way I see it, took virtually no responsibility for anything. We had a great week working with Gerard's! Lots going on at the marina so you have to be patient especially at check out. However we found the staff very professional and courteous! The premium ski boats were awesome! We had 6 people in the boat and it pulled skiers and tubers just great. The marina is in a perfect location on the lake! We also loved Sadie - the marina dog. Scammed by the guys on the dock. Rented a pontoon for 9 and had a great day. Unfortunately when we brought the boat back the guys on the dock told us it was dirty - water on the floor and some dirt from waves coming into the boat and coming back on from swimming. He said he would have to report it as dirty and we would have a $75 cleaning fee ... or we could pay him some cash and he wouldn't report it. The boat was NOT dirty but we were in a rush so I gave him $40 and left. The guys on the dock are looking to scam you so beware. Who knows what they will hit you with. He even told me not to mention anything to the front desk - great employees. There are other places you can rent from that you don't have to worry are going to try to rip you off. read more

Been using them for years, both for docking in the past and now rentals. Their owners are rude and dismissive, and their staff of young guys stand around often doing little to nothing. On our most recent rental experience we arrived at 9:30am to pick up the boat but did not get on one until close to 11:00am as they had only 1-2 staff members doing paperwork for at least 6 different rental parties. When they finally did give us a boat, the dockhand off handedly mentioned it had just been used that morning. We asked that it be topped up with fuel, which they never offered to do. $15+ later... Bottom line, you got to be firm with the people at this place, and know that they will try and squeeze every penny out of you. I recommend going to Pochono Point, Echo Bay, Candlewood East or any of the other marinas on the lake rather than have to deal with the incredible incompetence and rudeness these people show their customers. read more

People working at this marina are very unprofessional, rude and nasty. We just bought our first used boat and for some reason could not start it although it had a new engine put in. We brought it in to Gerard's marina since we knew that they specialize in jet boats to run the diagnostic. On the fourth day they call and say that there is nothing wrong with the boat, that they took it for a ride on the lake and charged 125 dollars for the diagnostic. We started the boat but it still does not run and it still has no power. Obviously they did not check anything or they even hurt it in some way. Because the boat we rented had problems we tried to speak to the owner about getting some sort of compensation back or getting on a different boat and she screamed and cursed at us and told us that if we didn't want the original (damaged) boat we should get out and go home. STAY AWAY!!!!, This is the worst boating company in America, they are so unprofessional and rude. ECHO BAY MARINA IS SOOOOO MUCH BETTER. They rented us a premium Pontoon boat with the gas gauge reading full, 20 minutes into the trip the boat stalls out and will not restart, we called the marina and they said we will send someone out to help us out. 4 HOURS LATER someone arrived, only to tell us it was a faulty gas gauge, the boat actually was rented to us on an empty tank. When we got back to the marina, they were rude, would not take anything off the bill and totally unprofessional. My 3 small kids were very upset and sunburn, I can keep going on and on, trust me STAY AWAY!!!!!! read more

The worst!!!!! I was trying to buy one of 2 boats they had listed on line. Tried multiple times for 4 days. Simple questions, Do they both have bimini tops and hardware, do they come with covers, are the trailers in good shape, since I was coming from 5 hours away? No returned emails, no returned phone calls. Got one person to, at last, tell me both were ready to go mechanically but one trailer would need some work. I said I'm still interested if they could look at trailer and give me a price for running it thru their shop, we would just add it to purchase price. AGAIN never got a return call. So I called again. That person got angry when I said I could not get a return call, I did not need to speak with same person, just anyone who wanted to sell me a boat. Put me on hold for 10 minutes obviously hoping I would hang up and I'm sure complaining about life, his job and this guy holding on the phone (that would be me) who called them out on what terrible business people they were. So he eventually picked back up and was surprised I was still there. Said hold on I got a salesperson to help you. Few minutes later a guy picks up and says "Yeah!" I said I'm looking at 2 boat and I gave him the stock numbers and explained I was looking for info about Tops and trailer condition. He said well this one doesn't come with a trailer. I said that's the one they told me trailer needed work and I was trying to get what repairs were needed and a price from you guys. Without taking a split second he said, "Yeah its sold!" I said, Really???? It just sold in our 10 seconds of talking. I laughed and said what about stock number (the other boat I had been looking at) I didn't even get the stock number out of my mouth and he said, "Yeah that's sold to!" That was a couple days ago and both boats are still listed on line for sale. Complete AHoles!!! Must be nice to have the complete corner on the market, because obviously they must, to treat customers with cash in hand the way they do. I know I wouldn't spend a dime with them nor would I suggest anyone else does either. With no cash flow maybe they would go out of business and someone with some business ethic would take over. If it puts it into perspective, I am almost 50 years old and have never written a review good or bad for anything. I most time just make a mental note of poor service and never return to that place. Life is to short to do things like this. BUT this was such a horrible and negative attitude that dwarfed other events I have dealt with, I didn't want people wasting their hard earned money with a place that didn't deserve it. read more
