Horrible business with rude employees…read more - Initially I came by and they said I could start my reservation at 12:00PM. - I passed a 15 min course to learn that the boat is actually unavailable due to weather; - the guy at the cashier said -- "I'm uncomfortable putting you on a boat because there is an upcoming storm coming" - come back at 3pm. - I called them multiple times between 1:30-2:30 to find out if the weather is ok to rent a boat or not - nobody answered - at 345 a very angry man called me and demanded that I pay for the boat a full price. Very dishonest practice of doing business. Horrible cancelation policy and borderline fraudulent enterprise. I lost $300 despite being told by an employee that it's unsafe for me to take a boat tour: I'll be reporting them to multiple government agencies and will be seeking remedies. Very unfair and dishonest. Avoid at all cost.

I bought my 2019 Malibu M235 at the end of the season never taking ownership until spring of 2021. I knew nothing about this marina as they didn't have it when I had my last Malibu. My friend had owned this particular boat I was about to purchase so I knew its history. While in negotiation on the price I'm told to transfer the warranty was $1,500, during the negotiation the owner Jim Virgintino told his sales guy to just keep the warranty under my friend who was the previous owner and any repairs needed would be run that way. Shady but ok, as long as he put that in the sale paperwork which he did I had no issues with this. Storage was of course included since I was not taking ownership until next spring. When spring came around I'm told my boat will need two batteries. My friend had told me the boat was having an issue draining the batteries and upon buying it I was told the issue was taken care of and new batteries were put in the boat. After discussing this with the service manager I'm told Jim Virgintino would speak to me. I came to the marina to detail my boat and was approached by Jim. He said to me that he never said new batteries were put in the boat and that "I bought a used boat" Now, I never even took possession of this so he sold me a boat that didn't run. I explained to him I was not happy with how this relationship was starting out and started to walk away when he agreed to pay for one of the two batteries. (so kind) Considering this was well over a $100K purchase I was really dumbfounded by his snark attitude. A few weeks after being on the lake the boat stopped working, and we were stranded. Guess what, battery issue. Called the marina and was told, "bring it over and they will take a look at it, not we will come to get you. I have a disabled boat with something they were supposed to have fixed and they don't come out and service? Their mechanic even lives in my community! "Our insurance does not allow us to do that I'm told" This marina is selling $250K boats and provide no service should you break down on a lake they are on. Unheard of. When I bought my boat previous boat from Eco Bay they came to my dock picked up and dropped off, that's what you expect when you buy a $100K plus boat. Unfortunately, my nightmare didn't end there. Since my boat needed service and my friend that bought his new Malibu boat was having major issues Malibu corporate was asking Brookfield Bay why there was two warranty work on two separate boats still owned by the same person and they tried to make me now pay to put the warranty in my name. Are you kidding me? It was part of my contract! They had to bite to bullet and transfer it at their cost. My last straw was when I dropped my boat off for winter storage on Oct 15, 2020, There were a few small things that needed to be fixed that was under warranty, their service manager walked around the boat with me and had me pull it into a slip. 3 months later I get a call from the service manager that the bow of the boat had been damaged. The damage was caused because they failed to move the boat and left it there most likely for months and over time the bow was hitting the dock. Of course, they would not take the blame, even though when it was dropped off their service manager walked around the boat with me. Clearly, they were negligent. Over $7K in damage. My insurance went up $400 because of their negligence. Jim Virgintino likes to boast how successful he is, in many cases loves to hear himself talk as pointed out by another review here, his ego is that of Donald Trump and in a flutter of emails we have exchanged over the year he knows little about customer service. Jim is right and you as a customer are wrong on every level. I have since sold my boat and moved back to Eco Bay which knows how to serve its customers. I feel sorry for the rest of the staff that works at Brookfield Bay because they seem like nice people but when directed by Jim Virgintino they have to follow his swindling guidance and customers get screwed. Photos show damage to boat and their dock which is claimed never happened there.

The bait he selected was exactly what the fish were biting on that day and we did not run out as Jed would replace bait if it looked like they were not lively enough. He consistently repositioned the boat as he called out the depth of the bottom and how deep we should be fishing. You get great views of the tree color transitions and just great photo opportunities. It does get cold on the water so bring a jacket. Experience is as excellent as last time with beverages and snacks for purchase. If you enjoy fall colors, great scenery and boats then you have to do this at least once.

This tour was definitely a highlight of our trip! Captain John and Charlie were great and all the passengers aboard had a great time! We passed three lighthouses-Peck Ledge LH, Sheffield Island LH and Green's Ledge LH. Charlie, co-captain of Captain John, had just toured the inside of Green's Ledge LH the day before which is listed on Airbnb for $6,000! He went around the ship showing everyone the floor plan. It especially exciting to be on the Long Island Sound and to see the red and white towers from Northport, since I live on Long Island!! We were able to see several different viewpoints of the sunset and osprey nests as well. Definitely recommend to residents of Norwalk AND tourists alike!

Actually I've…read morebeen to a few clinkers which says that I'm apparently I'm also a sucker for a bad lighthouse as well but there's no need to worry about that at Sheffield because it's all good here. So if you want to come you've got two legal options. 1. Show up via kayak (or I suppose boat then taking a short swim) during hours when they are running tours and you will be met on the shore by a volunteer who will ask you to pay a few dollars for the privilege of taking the lighthouse tour/hanging out on the island. 2. Or, you come via the regularly scheduled boat that runs from the dock on North Water Street in Norwalk from late May until the end of September. There are various public & private decks for parking all around the area so it shouldn't be too hard to find a close space. I don't remember what the price is for option #1 but for option #2 the below currently apply: Adults: $22.00 - Children 12 & Under: $12.00 Senior / NSA Member $20.00 Active Military with ID $10.00 Children 3 & Under: $5.00 Family 4 Pack (2 Adults, 2 Children) $55.00 A few random facts: Boats depart weekends only every year over Memorial Day weekend and eventually go daily from July until Labor Day and then back to weekends only until the end of September. Check seaport.org for the current schedule and for special events such as their clambakes. Once you get to the island you get to take a brief tour of the lighthouse which was built in 1868 (downstairs only for now as the upstairs tower portion is being worked on and hopefully tours will be allowed there in the not to distant future once they get the stairs in better shape along with figuring out a way to dissipate the heat which we were told was well over 100 degrees the day we were there in August) and you can also walk through the nature trail via the Stewart B. McKinney Wildlife Refuge. If you are going to walk on the nature trail or along the beach that fronts Sheffield Island Harbor just know that things are "wild" and that you will get eaten alive by flies, mosquitoes and I wouldn't be shocked if the trees had lots of ticks. The lighthouse was relit in 2011 for the first time in 91 years. Why Sheffield Island? The island was named after Revolutionary War veteran Captain Robert Sheffield who bought the island in 1804. He married Temperance Doty, a Mayflower descendant and such started the current lineage of the island's name. The 47 acre island is private property that is primarily owned by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service with the Norwalk Seaport Association depending upon the website owning only three or four of those acres. You will be reminded a few times of where you can and cannot walk. Speaking of an area you can't walk by it would be the dilapidated house on the right near the dock. That house is still owned by the Stabell family who sold the island to the Norwalk Seaport Association in 1986 for 700K. I forget the exact story we were told but it's something along the lines of the "home" (more of a dilapidated shack) cannot be renovated because of Fish and Wildlife Service rules and if they raze the structure they lose the land so the shack stands as is. The island itself is around a mile and half from the dock in Norwalk and the boat is kept at a country club pace in both directions which equals about 40 minutes to make the trip in each direction. This is fine as one of the crew did a fairly good job or telling everyone about some of the various islands & lighthouses & birds in the area and about the local shellfish industry. Past that it's just sit back and relax on some of their picnic benches and have a picnic or don't do a damn thing except the enjoy the beautiful view. Either way it's awesome.

Our captain was fantastic and very knowledgeable about the history and so much many more tidbits of info regarding Bantam Lake and the houses surrounding it. The captain had a last minute issue and called to let us know he will be a little bit late. For that reason the owner took money off the price of the tour. This was unexpected and extremely nice of this small business owner. I will be telling everyone about this tour and encouraging them to go. I will definitely be back in the summer! 10 stars if I could ! Thank you for making my moms 80th a fun and memorable day!!!!
