It was an interesting event and I'm glad to be part of it - thx to groupon.
Too bad it sprinkled thru out the day and it forced a lot of people to be inside the covered bungalow at the Ecole de Cuisine Pasadena (Housed in Chefs Center). I somehow expected this to be an indoor event, so staying "inside" was fine with me.
We tried our first plate of couscous served with your choice of vegetable, chicken and/or beef (cheek?). Each item came with its own broth over the couscous. Vegetable was my favorite one.
Besides from couscous, there were other items that Chef Farid Zadi and his team served that consisted of goat and rabbit meat. But the MUST have was the BRIK. It was the best thing I ate from this festival. It was OMG good~ I regretted not getting 2 the first time I ordered because by the time I wanted another one, the line was just too long.
Each brik was prepared carefully in front of us (that's why it took a long time to order). It was prepared with a thin flour sheet called warka then the chef added shrimps (marinated with lemon/lime juice) + cilantro/parsley + harissa (a chili paste) + a whole egg (each cracked right in front of us). The chef then wrapped it loosely and then fried it... the end result = a crispy + fluffy layered of some darn good stuff called the BRIK. read more
