Chef Donna cooked for a small birthday dinner party held at our home last week, and all I can say is amazing.

Our teacher was fantastic -- informative, patient, encouraging, and always so helpful. We learned essential cooking techniques, kitchen basics, and so many delicious recipes that I'll continue making at home. The class itself was equally special because we had such a great group of students and truly enjoyed learning and cooking together each week. I will genuinely miss this class and look forward to taking more classes at LA Cooking School in the future. I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to improve their cooking skills in a fun and welcoming environment!

Five days later and no contact from Pam. I was so excited to take my mister to their Father's Day class. We're empty nesters and this was meant to be a special treat for both of us. He's not big on cooking classes but the posted menu was appealing and I promised to do all the heavy lifting. Ribeye Steak -- thought we'd learn some new techniques to elevate our steak prep game. Mexican Street Corn Dip and Homemade Tater Tots -- summer corn is a family favorite and the thought of making homemade tater tots was intriguing. Smash Burger Sliders -- wanted to learn to consistently nail that crispy exterior. Inexplicably, we were paired with another pair -- a single dad with an 8 yo kid. Neither the mister nor I wanted this but we didn't want to make a scene or hurt anyone's feelings. We didn't even realize we were paired with them until the chef pointed out that our mise en place tray was setup for four. Why?? 1. The Mexican Street Corn Dip which I think was supposed to be an appetizer, was completely omitted. However, we did make a grilled corn salad as part of the meal. There was no appetizer served when we arrived. 2. Instead of homemade tater tots we made potato wedges. 3. The team we were paired with was lovely. However the class was well beyond their skill level. So instead of taking on the bulk of the work for 2 people, I did the bulk of the prep for 4 people. The course description says there may be seasonal substitutions but these substitutions utilized the same core ingredients. This was more work than I anticipated and left me feeling a bit overwhelmed and behind schedule. This threw the timing off and my mister enjoyed his steak alone while I was still standing at a hot stove prepping food for 4 people. Not the fun afternoon of "us" time I'd envisioned. Overall this was a subpar experience in so many areas that mattered to us. Left me personally disappointed and apologizing to my mister for the poor planning and execution. Could have spent the same amount of money without the hour+ drive and had a better experience.

There are only a handful of places to take private cooking classes and there were only a couple available to teach us. I found another place through this cozymeal, and they were able to find me a chef but I had no clue where we'd be (location wise - kitchen, house..). I just couldn't trust that we'd be in a location as cute as La Cuisine. So I decided to book with them since Yelp has such cute pictures of the inside.. my only worry was the very few reviews. But I took that chance and when we arrived everything looked exactly what people posted on here..but even cuter! Chef Paru & Sophia were so welcoming and per the group - they were both attentive but also giving us enough space to try on our own. Also, didn't realize my cutting technique was wrong until taking this class haha! I rarely cook, but now I know going forward! I'd definitely recommend this place if you're looking for great instruction and something a somewhat intimate vibes and not within a standard industrial kitchen. GF & Instagram friendly lol Thanks Chef Paru & Sophia!

Along with a few other parties learned to make a Caesar salad, steak, and chocolate soufflé. We were greeted with essentially bottomless pours of wine and a charcuterie board. It was a fun few hours of bantering with strangers and in the setting of cooking. Very low stress with simple instructions (even though I butchered the egg count, but the hosts were nice enough to give me a new bath of eggs). Meal was served thanksgiving style with plenty to go around. We were all left very full and tipsy afterwards. Would def recommend again with a group a friends. And the aesthetic is very cute!

Marc was a great instructor and did an amazing job at teaching techniques in addition toto the recipe and pivoted smoothly if things weren't exactly on track. My husband and I just took a private cooking class with a chef and made a four course French fare…read more First off, it was way too expensive for what it was. We merely went to someone's private house, cooked in her kitchen with her, and ate the meal. I was disappointed that it wasn't in a professional kitchen with other students. We were the only students tonight which was kind of nice, but also not so, because after we ate, we felt rushed to leave the house. The food we made was good though for the most part. The appetizer was okay, but not something I would make on my own as it consisted of baking a whole wheel of camembert cheese and topping it with apples sauteed in butter and sugar. It was good though, but not something we would make. Also, the dessert was not something we would make on our own either. We peeled two pears and soaked them in a whole bottle of red wine. My husband and I both felt that it was a waste of a bottle of wine as when you finish cooking it, you just throw away the rest of the wine. The main meal was chicken sauteed in butter and olive oil first then baked in a caste iron skillet. The chicken could have been cooked longer as it wasn't well cooked and kind of raw in my opinion. My husband who is a very picky eater actually liked it and said it was good, but I didn't think it was cooked well enough for my tastes. The leek sauce was nice and the ratatouille was okay, but I also felt the eggplant could have been cooked longer. Again, this was a very expensive experience for what it was. I think I paid about $270 for the both of us together, almost $300. I feel we could have just sat down at a really nice restaurant and ordered top of the notch steak and have had money left over. In any case, we've been wanting to take a cooking class together for a while, so we have that checked off our list. I just would not do this again with this company, with that chef, or recommend anyone else to waste their money doing it either.

I loved the sheer variety of his omakase. Marinated ankimo, halibut 3 ways, torotaku hand roll, and mackerel were all standouts. The tempura break between sushi gave us a trio of flavors - the tempura sauce, dashi salt, and a curry salt. I will never turn down otoro or uni. Both excellent. His use of charcoal and fire created depth in flavor and a variety of textures that made each dish special. The intimate 5-seater restaurant - though can be 6 if you have one close friend group going - felt cozy and warm. I highly recommend this gem in Culver City. I will be back and will be telling my all my friends.

With no assistants and no separation between kitchen and counter, the chef runs the entire operation alone preparing, plating, and serving each course directly to guests. The result feels less like dining out and more like being invited into a chef's private kitchen. One particularly memorable piece was halibut nigiri topped with a small portion of its own liver. The liver added a quiet richness almost buttery in depth enhancing the halibut's clean sweetness while maintaining perfect balance. Another highlight was king mackerel prepared warayaki-style, briefly touched straw fire which add a subtle aromatic smokiness on top of the mackerel flavor. I brought the Raifuku Choseimai to paired with the omakase, this is an exceptionally Junmai Daiginjo with the rice polished down to just 8%, it shows exceptional clarity and finesse, with a hint of floral aromatics, subtle fruit notes, and a very silky texture. It paired beautifully across the meal enhancing the sweetness of delicate seafood like halibut while refreshing the palate after richer bites such as toro and wagyu. Watching Masuyoshi san execute every detail from slicing fish to finishing all dishes adds a deeper appreciation for the craftsmanship behind the experience, definitely will bring a more variety of wine and sake to do a full pairing.
