I would give 0 stars if I could. This place is absolutely disgusting and I don't know how it is even operating under safe and clean standards. Upon arrival there was a small roach crawling on the wall the building was excessively hot smelled like smoke everywhere. The room had dirty linens, sticky surfaces, outlets and devices that did not work, multiple flies, overall not acceptable. The staff was unpleasant and not helpful in getting a refund. This place is an absolute armpit! The only reason I gave it one star was because of the staff...everyone was super friendly and helpful. We were in a bind and traveling very late with dogs. This was the ONLY hotel in the area that had a vacancy. The place ought to be razed...there was no collimate control in the main areas of the hotel. The exterior window at the end of our hall was missing and was covered by a piece of cardboard (with about a 3 inch open gap). The carpet in the mail hallways is disgusting. The rooms are beat to $&@%. There was a homeless guy roaming the halls when we got there...he was hanging out in the parking lot the next morning, I'm not sure I've ever stayed anywhere as awful as this place! Attempted to rent a room here this evening.. Paid almost 130 dollars for this room. First off was given the wrong room key. When given the right key and got to the room. Walked into the room, smelling of cat pee, and the ceiling looked like it was crumbling.. There were dust bunnies on the walls.. My main complaint was when turning on the lights cock roaches ran up the wall, and there was smashed roaches on the wall to.. I grabbed my things and went to get my money back.. First off. I've stayed a lot of places. This room was $130/night. Ridiculous. Second worst hotel I've ever stayed in. The whole place smells like cigarettes. The smoke detector in our room had a bag over it. They replaced a window in our room prior to our being there. They left all the broken glass on the roof below us. And there were piles of old junk there as well. The tv was, honestly, at least 35 feet from the bed and it was a 32". Didn't even attempt to watch it. There was a couch in our "suite" that hadn't been cleaned under in years I would imagine. You could see the stuff under it from the bed. Speaking of the bed. The one pillow had brown spotted stains all over it and was beige. And, last but not least! I was laying in the bed talking to my wife as she stood at the foot of it. Her eyes got really big and she said "oh my g--! There's a mouse!" It ran behind my head and disappeared into the bed we had just previously slept in. $130/night!!!! Are you kidding me!!!!! Awful!! Our room had a leak in the ceiling. The entire room spelled like puke. The place looks like a meth lab. I'd rather sleep in my car!

Owning a franchised motel requires some trust on both sides. The franchisor hopes the franchisee will keep the motel in accordance with their operating contract and up to date, and the motel operator hopes they get the correct support from the parent company. I don't know for sure, but one would assume the franchisor sends people around to check franchised operations every once and awhile. All that to say, I can't imagine that this motel lives up to the contract. Although inexpensive, the rooms are dirty, there is updating needed throughout the motel, and the exterior entrances (and there are a number of them) are unlocked 24 hours. On the plus side, they have the standard free breakfast offerings, and that room/operation seemed pretty clean. Waffles, breads, fruits, cereal, coffee, cocoa, oatmeal, and so on. This motel is off the north frontage road of Highway 13, just off I-57. If you're driving around in the dark, in a strange city or pouring rain, good luck locating it, as it is behind the auto parts store pictured below. The motel in the foreground (right) is an "America's Best Value" Inn, and those can be inconsistent too, from superb to disgusting. If you;re blowing through Marion, and just want a place to run in, sleep, shower and get out, Econo Lodge might be ideal for you. If you're traveling with the family or staying an extended length of time, probably not. This location is also handy if you're visiting the Marion Federal Prison, just a few miles south of town. read more

All I could do is laugh, I stayed there last weekend with my date, and I'm still laughing when I think about this place. It was Homecoming weekend, all of the better-reviewed hotels were taken up very quickly, this was the only one that was available. We had a wedding to attend in Marion. After a 5 hour drive from Chicago, we pull in around 1:30am. We park next to the back entrance and there are two very large men smoking something by their car just glaring at us, very sketchy, actually "sketchy" was the word for the whole weekend staying here LOL! BUT, I want to give credit where credit is due, with that said, TWO stars for you E-Lodge for not giving us bedbug bites nor for us being a witness to a roach or ant infestation ~ YAHOOOOO! The woman at the front desk was pleasant, the room was clean and, might I mention super sanitized because it was 147 degrees in the room when we walked in!! Come to think of it, that must be how they keep the bugs away (I may change this to 3 stars now...hmm). Oh, rest assured, they wash those towels and blankets, I know for a FACT because the laundry is sprawled out all over the couches on the first floor outside of the public elevators, I mean laundry is e.v.e.r.y.w.h.e.r.e. I love how there is a make-shift table outside in the parking lot, which consists of an old door placed over the air conditioner, in case the smokers on Floor 3 finally decide to go outside and not smoke in their non-smoking-rooms. They must not have realized that they have a table to gather around. There is a phone mounted on the wall in the bathroom, which oddly comes in handy when you need to call the front desk to ask if they have bandaids because you accidently sliced your finger open with your tactical knife and it won't stop bleeding. They are located right off the highway - PERK! And, last but certainly not least, we were sent off on our journey by a consistent banging on the paper thin walls as we were leaving - too bad we didn't understand morse code, our kind neighbors were probably telling us to have a safe trip home. :) read more

But this hotel was the second time in my life that I booked, paid, spent five minutes in the room, and then left to find another place to stay. A feeling of neighborhood riffraff in the parking lot. Not your harmless winos, but more like unsavory folks from around the way looking for something to do. Some sort of vague prostitution situation outside the front door. Of course you don't need any ID to check in (it's a no questions asked kind of place). Plenty of hair on the sheets to garnish the cigarette holes in the counterpane. Hot. Smelly. Heard the entirety of the two gentlemen's' spirited an expletive-laden conversation in the room beside. Drugs. It's not a place where I felt in danger per se but maybe a place where I could wake up with my car window smashed in, or the proud new owner of a case of pink eye. I might make do in a blizzard, or if there was no other hotel within a 45 minute drive, but unless you're faced with one of these exigencies I would not pay to stay at this hotel. read more

OMG! This place is soooo nasty. NOT at all like the photos. Photos missed the two sketchy men sitting on the front bench smoking and glaring at us as we passed through on a long driving road trip. Greeted by two very friendly former carnival workers, super tattooed out with a partial liquor / beer selection in cooler behind them. THEN, another thing website photo missed was the large cockroach sitting on the bathroom counter, staring me down, daring me to enter...Roach won that battle. The room stunk like cigarettes. Very worn down furniture that Goodwill would not accept for donation. We pulled the sheets to inspect the mattress. The one and only good thing was NO bedbugs (fully expecting to find them). Got a quick sleep, hot shower, grabbed some breakfast -- ooh, did I mention the "hot" breakfast was scrambled eggs (not bad), but the biscuit gravy was cold :( Hit the road running. Did I mention the beat up old pickup truck loaded down with stolen scrap metal and flat tires parked in the "Diamond" members only parking spot? VIP baby!! Oh boy, had we not been SO tired from driving and forced to sleep for a bit - the ONLY reason to stay here would be if you were just released from Marion Prison and that was your free voucher was for. As mentioned by other reviewers, the place could use some remodeling. The wallpaper in the bathroom is peeling in spots, there are cigarette burns on the sink in this nonsmoking room, the draperies are very wrinkled, etc. So why did I give it more stars than others? Because my room was clean and did not have a bad odor. Also their continental breakfast included hard boiled eggs which is something my husband with his many food allergies can eat. This isn't an issue for us but many would not like that there's no coffee pot in the room. On the plus side there is an iron and ironing board and the mini fridge is about 4' tall with a separate freezer section. While it's not the place to stay for a luxury vacation, I would stay here again while on my way somewhere else. Oh! Also there is an indoor pool; I didn't go look at it but people seemed to be using it. read more

I wish I could leave a review of zero stars. It's been nearly a month since this incident, and it still rattles me to my core. We placed a reservation through hotels.com, and in short, the reservation was lost, and the hotel (the entire TOWN) was sold out. I was told it was hotels.com's fault, and I needed to call them. I did so from the lobby, meanwhile my husband started making phone calls from his phone to find a new place to stay. We were no longer engaging in conversation with any of the employees at this point. The manager kept approaching my husband and I, reiterating that it was not their fault and we shouldn't be upset. Mind you, we just completed a seven hour drive with an 8 year old in tow. We're exhausted. The manager continued to make angry comments about us saying that it was stupid for us to use a third party website and so forth. As I was on hold with Hotels.com, I said "we haven't stayed in a hotel in nearly a decade, how the hell were WE supposed to know?" The manager proceeded to tell my husband AGAIN that we had no right to be upset. My husband told the manager that he had no right to tell us such a thing, and we were kicked off the property. And it wasn't a simple, "why don't you leave?" It was "F**k you, you ignorant Americans! You should be ashamed of yourselves! Get an education!" and things of the like. In front of our child. He followed us to our van and continued to scream obscenities at us while my daughter and I are crying our eyes out. Based on another review read here, the manager clearly has a temper problem, and I am contacting corporate. Let's see, where to start? I'll begin by saying I never stayed here myself. A friend of mine came to town to visit family and friends with his girlfriend. He noticed this hotel had a great price on rooms along with an indoor pool, so he rented a room. I picked him up to do some shopping. Maybe 20 minutes after I had picked him up, his girlfriend calls and says the hotel manager was flipping shit over her uncle coming to visit her at the hotel. Since the manager refused to speak with her because it was in my friends name, he calls up to the hotel while still in my car. Obviously confused, he tells the manager that he didn't know they weren't allowed visitors (because obviously it's a hotel, not a prison). I could literally hear her over his phone when she started screaming at him about "not having people come to sleep there" (it was in the middle of the day) and that he didn't make the rules, she did. She accused him of threatening her because he asked to speak to a supervisor and then hung up on him. When he got back to the hotel, she had called the cops on him. The cop promptly put her in her place (thank you Marion PD!) stating that every time he had taken a call at this hotel (which I'm assuming by the sound of his conversation had been a few), it was the management that had been aggressive, not the customer. Nowhere in the contract my buddy signed did it say he couldn't have visitors. I'm assuming these morons rip people off for fun. When he asked for a refund he was told that the "owner's son" was in India and he would have to wait for him to get back to get a refund. I don't usually Yelp, but this needed to be said. After this happened, I heard quite a few more stories about issues with management at this establishment. read more

To begin I made my reservation through hotels.com. I informed them I had a pet and they found me a pet friendly room and said that I was paid in full want to give them a credit card. I show up to the Econolodge and come inside to find no one at the front desk. I wait for several minutes I open the door and shut it several times for the Doorbell to ring, still nothing. And then pulled my phone and call the phone number and call the phone number three times the first time somebody answered cannot say anything second two times no answer. Then I called the cell phone number on the business card at the front desk again no answer. 15 minutes later my sister goes and finds a worker who was somewhere in the back. When he comes to the front he asks if I have a dog to which I say yes and he tells me there will be another $20 fee. This hotel is hot and smells terrible, in addition to the bugs, the lack of service is very unimpressive! There are many many hotels at this exit, I would choose a different one. read more

Most everything in the room was broken, the housekeepers are nicer than the any other employees. Not to say that makes up for the mess throughout the hotel. Seriously.. disgusting. My family stayed at this Inn last weekend. We were there for a Graduation in Carbondale, Illinois. We had 3 separate identical rooms. We were all charged different rates, but made Reservations at the same time. The Inn is not well-maintained. The rooms reap of sewer smells and urine.This Inn also houses transits, which was unsettling. I would not recommend this Inn to anyone. read more

Very nice place for a great price. Lobby and hall are decorated nicely. Rooms are nice sized and clean. I like the refridgerator, was a little larger than most hotel fridges with separate freezer door. Very helpful!! Pool is great!! Water was actually warm and hot tub was wonderful also. They obviously don't believe in A/C throughout the hotel common areas either. WiFi doesn't work properly. I managed to connect to someone who's nearby. Definitely needs updating! Bad Bad Bad Place!!! Not only is the place dirty but its noisy too. You could hear every step upstairs as people walked around. Floor was popping so loud it woke us up at 2am and again at 4am. There are no coffee pots in the room and the TV didn't work. They leave the outer doors open and like wide open and even when they are closed they are not locked. Its in a shady neighborhood and very unsafe!! I can't believe they charge the money (over 100.00) they do and they dont even lock to doors. When we got up at 4 I went in the bathroom to find a mouse dropping/turd on the counter. I told the front desk and it was no big deal. (foreign owners!!!) Stay here for bed bug bites! Unfortunately after a 13 hour drive, I couldn't make the remaining 4 hour drive home. After passing the isolated inns near southern IL, I decided to stay at Econo Lodge since I did not see any other hotels around (I blame it on being over tired). All I needed was some sleep before driving the remaining hours. I blame myself for not checking reviews first. Slept about 4 hours and woke myself up by profusely itching my arms. I opened my eyes and ran to the bathroom. Bites all over my arms and neck! Took a Zyrtec and ran out of the room. Drove away as quickly as I legally can. I called to let them know there were bed bugs in the room I stayed in over night. The woman who answered stated they were working on it. I told her I wasn't informed last night. She said it was people checking in today. Doesn't make sense. No apology. She is obviously aware of the infestation. I understand this isn't a five star hotel but this property should care for their rooms. I don't mind it being outdated. The guy at the front desk whom I checked in with was friendly.
