We stayed here during a road trip vacation. Unfortunately, when we entered our room, it had a strong odor of dog urine and felt extremely muggy, even though the rest of the hotel was a comfortable temperature. The front desk was quick and accommodating in switching us to another room, which we appreciated. However, the first room should never have been rented out in that condition. read more

This is one of the worst hotels I've stayed at. our room was so run down and damaged. It looked like a middle schooler painted it. shower curtain rod looked like it was ripped off. They painted around a mirror but couldn't even take it down first. The TV used to be on the wall but now on the table but just left the mount on the wall. This looked like they cobbled a trashed room together for graduation weekend and didn't care a bit. good luck finding parking later at night, construction vehicles taking the spots. luckily someone was leaving just as we got in not sure where they parked when they got back. Worst of all bedbugs. wish we would have slept in the car. We called for a refund but of course they said "our rooms are clear, we take precautions", yeah right. We were desperate for a place for the night, after driving so long. Cheap. Easy. Always had good luck with Super 8. I am pretty sure we have stayed here before. I don't think I had many good things to say. You first walk in and you are bombarded with the clean scent...bombardment. Well I know why! We walk down the hallway and it smells...so bad. Like cat pee with cleaner on top. It's a bad combo. I get it they are trying. But my goodness..it's bad. I know beggars can't be choosers...but dang! I made sure to only do one trip to our car. So I wouldn't have to walk the hallways. The room had a slight smell of cigarette and cat pee....I sprayed my room spray in hopes to...help. It took me a 1.5 hours of intense non-stop researching/ racing back forth BACK forth between YELP and KAYAK to find a quality CLEAN insect free room At a GOOD PRICE South East of St Louis between the MAJOR interchange of 64 East connecting to 57 South and the dark dense huge National Forest south of MARION, Illinois LATE AT NIGHT --10 pm‼ First, ALL the Towns in this FIFTY MILE STRETCH have almost nothing except camping grounds KOA, and tiny inadequate older motels. The ONLY location in this long 50 mile stretch with places to stay ( almost all brands) is in MARION , IL. (And the last 7 miles going north west on 57 towards St. Louis's is CONSTRUCTION) So if it's late and you are exhausted PLS stop in Marion! ( or if going NW in the town of Anna BEFORE the huge Wildlife Refuge). MARION is of course expensive with the lowest rates in unacceptable one star Yelp rated motels starting at $60-$75!!! The average price is $165 a night. SUPER 8 was an OUTSTANDING 3.5-4 star former motel ( former because new owners Wyndham Hotels who also own Favorite Hawthorne Suites just renovated this location, beautifully!). We were shocked because of the ' old' Super 8 image from long ago. 5 STARS BECAUSE of the incredible warmth graciousness kindness extended by the YOUNGEST employee, STAR, Last night. Kayak told me many folk were also looking at this motel and few rooms remained. So I called and shared w Star my husband's predicament ( he also had 3 back surgeries 3 years ago). All rooms on the 1 st and 2 nd floor were sold out and no elevators . But she gave him the handicap room by the front door and HELD ONTO it for 20 minutes as I kept begging my husband to stop rest book this GREAT room and GOOD rate at 10:30 PM!!! He found the king size bed heavenly the spacious room PERFECT very clean and the mini frig microwave excellent for the cold dog food and ice blocks. PET FRIENDLY for Honey our 11 yr old tiny shitzu and clean is RARE!!! But BEST OF ALL was the truly wonderful care given my poor flat wiped out 70-yr-old foolish husband. He started at 8:30 am from the MN Twin Cities, Stopped at Mayo Clinic for an Ultrasound test then drove south through Waterloo and Cedar Rapids Ipwa WATCHING OUT for the new SPEED RADAR CAMERAS throughout the entire state on all interstates ( Per AAA travel staff/ Trip Tik creators) and DENSE TRAFFIC in those two construction laden city toutes‼ he foolishly.... always refuses to listen ( remember ' Grumpy Old Men?!!) and drove THIRTEEN hours finally stopping st 10:30 pm. Arrived on Aug. 14th was on my way home from visiting family in Texas Super 8 was horrible unkept hotel. The room had a bad smell to it Young kids just hanging outside the main entrance and in the lobby The room i was in was not good, the mattress was very uncomfortable there were bugs flying around. I went to use the bathroom and the bugs were flying about in there so i closed the door and left it closed all night The breakfast is not much to talk about,looks like leftovers I will never stay here again and wound not recommend it read more

This has been a bad experience for my grand daughter and I! We are coming back home to Arkansas from Michigan visiting family. Decided to stop here to rest up before continuing on home... anyway.... we got room 113 double queen room. First thing that was bad was the air conditions.... wouldn't stay on so the room got hot Next, the smells from the carpet mixed with lingering food from down the hall was nauseating! Lastly the noise is unbearable! Paper thin walls, we heard people talking all night and tv playing as well as the arguing plus, constant door slamming! Oh my gosh all I needed was a few hours of quiet and sleep! Not a chance here.. so my suggestion to you is save your money and go down the road somewhere else! Stopped off in Marion on the way to Memphis (instead of driving all the way) and went with the old Super 8 based on all around decent reviews. Not sure if I'll ever be in Marion ever again but would certainly come back to this perfectly pleasant, no-fills motel just a couple of minutes off the I-57. The room is pretty much what you'd expect in terms of decor and comfort, although I actually was quite impressed with the quality of the mattress: not only did we get two queen beds as opposed to the usual double, it was much more comfortable than I would have expected, which was a nice surprise. They're either splurging on quality mattress or had recently changed them, so either way I was happy after a long drive. Bathroom was also fine and didn't have any problems with cleanliness or anything for that matter. Refrigerator worked well, had a slight issue with the Wi-Fi (which was resolved by April, the very nice girl working the front desk) and all of the other little assorted things (A/C, shades, noise level etc.) weren't an issue. The breakfast was pretty basic and a step down from what you'd get at a Holiday Inn, Best Western et al. but that's probably to be expected for what you're paying. It ain't The Ritz and I don't know how comfortable I'd be if I were there for an extended period of time but if you're just passing through and need a place to rest your head for a night, you certainly can't go wrong for eighty bucks a night. read more

A great cheap sleep! For years it seemed to me like a Super 8 was a roll of the dice, sometimes you win and sometimes you didn't win. Since coming under the Wyndham umbrella, the properties mostly seem like winners, and this one is certainly a winner in my book. Easy off and on I-57. the property is located in a commercial area, just off the freeway. Two notes of caution that you cannot hold the hotel responsible for. One, the property is confusing to get to. You can see it and you can see the sign, but it's at the end of a frontage road that isn't easily seen in the dark. The property is just off Deyoung Street (Illinois 13) Turn left on Halfway Road and immediately turn left on Verneil Road, which is right in front of the Pilot Travel Center. Two, be aware that the lobby is on a mezzanine, there are a few steps up to the second floor and a few steps down to the first floor. There is no elevator. If you have a wheeled conveyance, you can enter through the back door, which is on grade with the first floor. The continental breakfast is pretty much what you expect. There is a waffle iron if a hot breakfast is your preference. Farmer Brothers Coffee (meh) is available 24 hours. The rooms were updated and redecorated sometime in the not too distant past, the bathroom fixtures were replaced at the same time, Flooring and carpeting are in great shape. All in all, this is a great value and priced right. Enjoy your stay! read more

We have been staying at this Super 8 whenever we are in Marion for over 5 years. This stay was a HUGE disappointment. We checked in last night tHen walked to our room The hallway REEKED of cigarette smoke. When we got to our room my husband called the front desk to complain then we opens the window and folded up the bedspread & put it on the floor in front of the door. The desk clerk eexainwd thSt there is a strict no smoking policy and they would find the culprit and charge them a $150 clean up charge. Also there breakfast area wasn't clean. To start, hotels.com booked us at the wrong location and we did not found out until we were an hour away. The front desk was so nice on the phone with me. She helped me cancel the wrong reservation and get a refund back even though it was non-refundable! She even gave us the same exact rate as the other super 8 we were accidentally booked at. She really went out of her way to help us and we really appreciated it. We were a little nervous for our stay because of how good the price was compared to other hotels in the area! To our surprise, the hotel was very clean. The rooms seemed newly updated and the beds were very comfortable. The only reason I give it 4 stars is because the walls are paper thin. I could hear people walking above us and people walking down the hall. I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the area! read more

This Super 8 is wonderful! I have stayed there twice now in the past year, and both experiences were great. Located right off the highway, it doesn't look like much from the outside; however, the rooms have clearly been renovated in recent years. The rooms are gorgeous and modern, and everything is clean and well-maintained. The staff has been friendly and helpful during both stays, as well. Add to all of this that the rooms are inexpensive, and the Super 8 is perfect place to stop while traveling. read more

We got the "suite" since we were traveling with an extra person. The room was plenty large, although it wasn't divided into two rooms. Even worse, it came with just one king bed. There was a roll-away next to the bed which was way too uncomfortable for an adult to sleep on. We had to sleep on the couch. No, it didn't pull out to a bed. The hotel shares it's lot with Vern's 24-hour truck garage and the vehicles woke us up in the morning. They do offer a basic breakfast and McDonald's is next door. read more

Beautiful updated room with new, very comfortable, mattresses, flat screen TV, and so forth. One of my favorites since about 2006. Good half-way stop between Charlotte, NC and Nebraska. A little less than Mt. Vernon about 50 miles north. Even better now after the remodel. Clean rooms (non-smoking), good shower and waffles. Found this about 11:00pm after Paducah, KY. There is no life after Paducha. They welcomed me and my Mastiff and and I've been back a several times a year ever since. Edit. I caught the last room one night & the next couple was stuck. The clerk recommended an alternative hotel, made a call, referred this couple by name and provided directions and a map. I thought that was commendable. read more
