We got to our room #326, and it was huge, truly the size of 2 rooms together, with a King bed and a pull out couch. The problem is, the room is so large that the space isnt used wisely, si the room comes off sterile and cold, not the warm, cozy feeling you get from most Hampton hotels. It was very Liminal Space -y. The echo was noticeable because there wasnt enough furniture to soak up the sound. The bed was VERY comfortable, the shower and bath were tops. We originally booked this SpringHill Suites location as our overnight stop. As our drive progressed, we realized we could safely make it farther up the road, so we booked another SpringHill Suites by Marriott location instead. We did not cancel our trip, switch to a cheaper hotel, or take our business elsewhere -- we intentionally stayed loyal to the Marriott brand and paid for another Marriott property. I completely understand that we booked a prepaid rate with restrictions, but I reached out asking if they would consider a goodwill exception since Marriott still received our business. The initial response simply repeated the cancellation policy. I politely explained the situation further and asked for reconsideration, but I never received a follow-up response. Policies are important, but so is customer service. Sometimes taking care of a loyal customer and looking at the full circumstances is what separates an average experience from a great one. A simple acknowledgment or willingness to help would have gone a long way. Unfortunately, this experience left us feeling like the reservation policy mattered more than the customer relationship.
