    Chicken bones from previous guests
    Kay J.

Inspect carefully before you put down your bags! This room had obviously not been cleaned. In addition to the stained bedspread and bones, there were stains on the chairs. One bed had been neatly made but not cleaned. There was a used towel in the bathroom . We called the front desk to see if they would send someone to clean it and she said nobody was available and offered a refund. Before we could give an answer she hung up. When we were leaving the motel, there were cleaning staff busy cleaning rooms! Maybe they are having staffing problems, but honestly, if that's the case, why not just say something instead of being rude?

    Broken toilet seat

Okay when I went to check in the receptionist had the personality of a ........ The toilet seat is broken. The toilet seat does not stay up for males. Get there and sign saying at reception, no pool, no hot tub, no function center and no fitness centre. So many times we tried to get the shower to work no luck water only come out of tap over bath. TV remote only the power and volume buttons work. Bed rock hard Room was ok Washing machine is great Dryer is great Breakfast is fine Requested non smoking room which was granted shame about the smoke smell across from us we had to deal with.

This place was cheap but disgusting. The hallway smelled terrible and was hot, the rooms were filthy. My sheets clearly weren't washed because I found three short black hairs and a couple of dead ants in my sheets. There were also a ton of stains on the sheets and dirt as if someone put their dirty shoes on the bed. Sheets didn't even smell clean like that had been properly washed. I had one towel and dirty sheets. I called the front desk for new sheets and more towels and was told there was no housekeeping until morning... why would I have to wait for housekeeping when their should be extra clean sheets and towels somewhere they should be able to provide? I didn't sleep in this bed. Luckily for me and my husband we had extra blankets and pillows from out travel. Absolutely disgusting place to stay.

Easily the worst motel I've been to. And this coming from a guy with low motel standards. An outlet plate costs $1.50, and they can't even replace it. And yes, they used a goddamn "paper plate" to cover the hole in the wall. Plus they can't even be bothered to hang the curtain right. No tissue paper too. AND HOLY CRAP IS THIS PLACE SO DIRTY.

    Cockroach.

Found a cockroach in a room. Avoid this place. Also, walls had mildew, room smelled like B.O., lights flickered weird.

    Wet stain

Horrible service from front management . One of the beds has a wet stain on it my husband went to tell them he said "there's no way there's a wet stain and we don't have other sheets to give you at this time they also can't move us. He also said we have been checked in for 4 hours which is not true. We checked in at 7:21 p.m unloaded a little bit of the stuff and seen the stain right away the picture is time stamped at 7:23pm. I told him to explain the pubic hairs and the other hairs on the bed bc I'm blonde and these are dark hairs. He can not refund us bc of hotel policy. So I guess a dirty room is hotel policy.

    Bedbug we found

THIS PLACE HAS BED BUGS!!! My husband found it right after we had already been laying in the bed for a while. After taking it to the front desk, the lady seemed to not care whatsoever. That's on top of the room being dirty in general. Don't bother wasting your time or money

Plenty of room for my husband and I, and our twins on their cot beds :)

The grounds were a delight to wander around. You can catch the Amtrak there as well (it's actually a stop!). The largest navajo rug... it was really something to see. The Staff are super friendly and the place is old, but well kept to a boutique style hotel.. It's old old school.. If you struggle with carrying your luggage up two long flights of stairs, request ground floor.. There is no elevator.. Just FYI.. We were put in the smallest room they have.. Didn't know that until we were told that checking out.. They weren't even fully booked.. The room was small.. The Clark Gable Room.. Who ever stuck us in that room wasn't very nice, just saying.. The bed was hard and difficult to sleep on and the pillows didn't make it much easier either..Also there is only one outlet to charge phones on. There is only a charger/outlet on the table next to sink area. The air conditioner had one speed and didn't cool very well.. It was only 98 degrees outside.. I will tell you the shower room was seperate from the sink which was nice.. The shower was spacious and comfortable to shower in.. The lavender soap is nice too.. The towels were super thick and nice.. Had we been in a bigger or more comfortable room i probably would have given more stars.. To be honest.. Probably won't stop here again..

Instead, I broke up my stays between two hotels. The Winslow appears to be a newer hotel in the area. Since I was busy with the tournament, I didn't get a chance to explore much of the hotel. My room was clean and had a king bed, flat screen TV, small desk, mini closet, and more. It was plenty spacious for me and would be spacious for two people as well. The bathroom featured a large shower and large sink. Like one Yelper mentioned, the bathroom fan stays on the whole time. I've never experienced that before, but once I closed the door, I couldn't really hear it anymore. The hotel includes a hot breakfast with your stay which I took advantage of right before checking out. The buffet offered eggs, sausage, potatoes, pastries, fruit, juice, coffee, and more. There's also a bar that offers drinks and food. I slept well and had no issues during my stay. Every staff member I encountered was pleasant and helpful.

It was nice that we didn't have to drive somewhere to have dinner and a cocktail. The hotel was recently remodeled, the rooms were decorated nicely and the bed was comfortable. The reason we will not return is because the fan in the bathroom cannot be turned off, it is very loud. So we had to shut the door to block the sound, that could be ok except when it's dark and you have to find your way to the bathroom. The second reason we would not go back is because the air conditioner unit is very loud. Every time it came on it would wake us.

It was very affordable ($45 a night) and the bed was SUPER comfortable. Each room has small fridge and microwave. Soft, fluffy white towels and is cozy. There's also a wardrobe and a comfy chair and soft sheets. I was pretty shocked the room was so nice cause the outside isn't so great. It's also located quite a bit off the freeway, which is nice because you get a decent night's sleep. Right across the street is small lounge and restaurant. Had cocktails that night in the lounge (no food there after 8pm) and a pretty typical diner breakfast in the lounge the next day. The Desert Sun Motel is a nice little oasis in the desert.

Being able to not take interstate highways for a lot of the trip AND having no clue where we were going to spend each night was something we looked forward to. Arriving late afternoon in Winslow we drove slowly past the Desert Sun Motel. The rooms were in a semi circle around a huge pea gravel parking area. We checked in to room 22 and I must say that it was one of the nicest budget places we have stayed in a long time. At $40 including taxes, this was not the cheapest place we stayed in, but the room was one of the best. It had recently been remodeled and the bathroom was just like home ... spacious, nice tile, well lit ... really clean and roomy. The bedroom had a most comfortable mattress and armoir, sitting chair with ottoman and TV. The room had a very neutral odor ... no cover ups here ... and very quiet during the evening. Driving through Winslow might scare most people off from stopping, but take the time to walk around, have a cup of coffee and definitely stay overnight at the Desert Sun. Nice managers and nice motel. You will think you are back in the 50's again.
