I can't review much about the hotel itself as we only came to see the largest Navajo rug on display. However! The lobby and gift shop area are absolutely gorgeous! I am torn on this place.. Now granted for the area.. It's about your only option for a nice place.. The Staff are super friendly and the place is old, but well kept to a boutique style hotel.. It's old old school.. If you struggle with carrying your luggage up two long flights of stairs, request ground floor.. There is no elevator.. Just FYI.. We were put in the smallest room they have.. Didn't know that until we were told that checking out.. They weren't even fully booked.. The room was small.. The Clark Gable Room.. Who ever stuck us in that room wasn't very nice, just saying.. The bed was hard and difficult to sleep on and the pillows didn't make it much easier either..Also there is only one outlet to charge phones on. There is only a charger/outlet on the table next to sink area. The air conditioner had one speed and didn't cool very well.. It was only 98 degrees outside.. I will tell you the shower room was seperate from the sink which was nice.. The shower was spacious and comfortable to shower in.. The lavender soap is nice too.. The towels were super thick and nice.. Had we been in a bigger or more comfortable room i probably would have given more stars.. To be honest.. Probably won't stop here again.. read more

This! Look no further than the La Posada. The grounds are stunning. The hotel is filled with beautiful artwork and history. There is a bar and restaurant at the hotel and both are fantastic. There is NO elevator. You have to schlep your bags, all of them, to the 2nd floor. We are not young people, it was not an easy trek. There is no help. The rooms are lovely. Spacious bathrooms, blow dryers, comfy mattress and lots of pillows. There is a train immediately behind the hotel that runs pretty much non stop, day and night. We opted to sleep with the windows open to enjoy the gorgeous weather. At around 10 pm a train blasted the horn and scared me death (hub slept through it lol). After that just the rails, no horn. We will always stay at the La Posada. We will plan in advance for a ground floor room. read more

This is a very interesting historic hotel located right on the train line. Apparently, this building was once one of the Fred Harvey Houses built along the railroad line. It was also designed by a female architect, something that was not common at all at that time (or even now, sadly). Lots of movie stars and even presidents have stayed here and the property has a long, interesting history, you can read about. At present, there is a literal train stop at the back of the hotel, just about 100 feet away. Really. If train noises at all hours--and I do mean at ALL hours--bothers you, make sure you specifically ask for a room far, far away from the train tracks. We were about mid-way from the tracks and could hear trains all night long. Yes, each room has ear plugs but not everyone wants to wear those things. The hotel has a very nice looking restaurant and bar (and they do have a happy hour) and the bar doubles as a coffee house in the morning, which is smart business. We didn't eat at the restaurant, mostly because the dinner prices were off the charts, although I would have liked to have done so. The lunch prices seem more reasonable. The property itself has a beautiful courtyard and a large room they call a "ballroom" and lots of spaces for exploring. They also have many free board games set about which you can use. At the back of the property, facing the train stop, there are chairs set about if you want to relax and/or watch the trains. Apparently, there are roving skunks, too, so keep that in mind. Personally, I would have liked to have seen a wild skunk or two (are there any domesticated skunks?). Our room was delightful. The entire property has a Southwestern theme and decor. During our visit, they had some absolutely wild art hung about here there and everywhere. Perhaps this art is up permanently. I love art but some of it, apart from just being on the weird side, was also somewhat political and, frankly, I think distracted from the beauty of this place. I would stay here again...but only if I was located far, far from the trains at night. read more

After we stood on a corner in Winslow AZ we decided to have lunch at the Turquoise Room as it was supposed to be the nicest place in town. The food was terrific - I highly recommend the "Signature Soup" which apparently was on the menu when it was a Fred Harvey restaurant. In addition to a wonderful lunch, we also discovered that the La Posada was a historic hotel with old Southwest charm, friendly staff and large comfortable and very clean rooms. We liked it so much we decided to stay the night and then decided to extend our stay for another! Skip Flagstaff and follow Rt 66 to Winslow and the La Posada. read more

I've stayed at hotels all around the world and when I say La Posada is one of the most romantic, calm, tranquil, charming hotels I truly mean it. Wow! I was blown away. It's not often I think I'll find myself in Winslow, AZ but I was driving to Dallas from LA and knew I'd stop here night 1. I had my precious baby girl with me and they are a pet friendly hotel. We loved our stay so much! The bar was fantastic, the restaurant for dinner delish, the property - so peaceful! I'd only driven 7+ hours this day but this hotel was the most welcoming slice of heaven on Earth. If you find yourself in this area, I cannot recommend them enough. read more

We recently stopped again with a friend for Lunch. This place is so full of history it has so many interesting pictures of what it use to look like and so many interesting paintings by the current owners wife of current life. The restaurant was not full when we stopped for a late lunch my wife use to frequently stay as a guest when she was working in the area several years ago. This place is amazing! The sprawling grounds has a restaurant, business center, book store, museum and gift shop. While exploring the premises I discovered a garden and an area to sit and relax or a grassy area for kids to run around. The book store was cozy and had an array of books and the gift shop was furnished with a lot of items from trinkets, jewelry, mirrors and pictures for sale. The hotel hallway walls displayed pictures of past dignitaries and Hollywood stars that stayed there decades ago. If I ever go back, I would be interested in seeing some of the rooms and how they are furnished. read more

Comparatively speaking, this is probably the best place to stay in the area. The prices of the room, however, is a little high. There is no microwave or fridge in the room. There are lots and lots of books, which isn't hygienic. Would have rather had a small microwave and small fridge in the room. The food at the restaurant was good, however, a little heavy. The soup was lukewarm at best. It was very good, however probably would've been great if it was hot. The crème brûlée left a lot to be desired. For $13, I could not believe how small it was and there wasn't even the crusty sugar on top. It was all mush. I got five ends of the bread and only three of the inner portions of the bread. Sus. My wife and I were driving from California to Oklahoma on I40 a few weeks ago. Just outside of Winslow there was a dust or sandstorm. A bad accident blocked I40 for a couple of hours. When we finally pulled into town, we were initially just going to grab a sandwich somewhere and go to bed early. But I had read about the restaurant at La Posada before we started our trip. I thought after a long day La Posada sounded better than a sandwich. It did not disappoint. The atmosphere, ambiance, food, nice people and a couple of drinks was the perfect way to unwind and relax. This is a lovely restored hotel and it has a great restaurant (The Turquoise Room) and lots of nice places to gather and relax. But it does have the shortcomings of older hotels, like not enough electrical plugs to charge electronics. (Fortunately, I travel with an extension cord that can handle three chargers). Our room did not have a single place to store clothes - the only drawers were in the desk and they were too small for clothing, and every shelf in the room was taken up with books. However, the hotel was nice enough to swap out some furniture such that we had a small dresser with shelves. Also, be advised that not only is there an Amtrak station behind the hotel, there's a very large rail yard that gets freight train traffic day and night. Fortunately, our room was as far from the tracks as possible. read more

I was looking for a hotel on maps close to "the corner" in Winslow. Saw this hotel and investigated. Made a reservation and here we are. Pleasantly surprised isn't an accurate description. Blown away. The owners bought this abandoned hotel in 1994 and spent 22 years remodeling and they did a great job. Everyone who works here is great - friendly, nice, helpful etc... The grounds are amazing and currently enjoying a drink in the sunken garden. So much better than a holiday inn express. You won't be disappointed. read more

This is a totally fabulous hotel that is simply a wonderful getaway. I've been there a number of times, and shall return! But...a comment to management: Fix the coffee. The rooms do not have coffeemakers, so the hotel provides free coffee in the lobby. This would be lovely if the coffee were drinkable. But it's not. It should not be that hard to get some decent coffee in. Your second option is really not better. The bar has an espresso machine and will serve you a latte. But that has a $10 price, plus tax and tip makes $13. For a cup of coffee. No, $13 for a cup of coffee is not a viable idea. And it sends a message which is not a good message. read more

This is a lovely old historic, authentic southwestern hotel. The room and beds are comfortable, staff is friendly and there is a decent restaurant, small bar and SW shop on site. However, there are no elevators so we had to have staff deliver suitcases to our 2nd floor room as one of us has difficulty with stairs. But, as there is no phone in the room so we had to call the hotel using our mobile phone to arrange this. The only ice machine is near the restaurant which is down a beautiful flight of stairs and across the length of the hotel from our room. No in room fridge. And directly behind the hotel is the local Amtrak station. Trains went through in the evening and before daylight though at least not too loud. read more

Probably the best hotel in town. Its older but has great atmosphere. It is a train hotel and our room faced the tracks and trains come through town all day but also all night. They give you ear plugs. They don't really work. There is no elevator so you carry your luggage up the stairs. The room we had was small and could have used better appointments like better towels and bedding. More electrical plugs. No in room phone. Very small bathroom. There is no bar area where you can sit, have a few drinks and watch some TV. There is sitting around but generally in dark corners and rooms. Did try their restaurant as we ate in the downtown area near the Eagles square. read more

This was our 3rd stay here in and my in-laws 50th stay, so there's no doubt we like La Posada. The rooms, the common areas, the art and the gardens are all lovely, as are the staff. On this occasional we stayed in the "Tom Ford" room and it was very nice. I just wish they had coffee makers in the room. We always have drinks at the bar (the barman is very personable) and dinner at restaurant, both are very enjoyable. I have one thing that irks me about the hotel, despite my in-laws staying here (and always bringing friends with them) 2-3 times a year for almost a quarter of a century, they are never acknowledged at check in. Never any "nice to see you again" or "welcome back". I find it very odd, hotels that my wife and I go back to time and time again always make us feel special and appreciated (admittedly my in-laws don't seem too bothered, they keep coming back). Other than that, this hotel is a class act. read more

La Posada is a magical hotel in Winslow, AZ. It was originally a Fred Harvey House hotel on the Santa Fe Railroad Line. My companion Gabrielle and I stayed there last year and thoroughly enjoyed it. We just completed another stay there this weekend and although the hotel was every bit as charming as last, the high-end restaurant, (The Turquoise Room) was a huge disappointment. I ordered the branzino fish, which was fishy and rubbery (probably frozen rather than fresh.) It came with root vegetables and squash, all of which were tepid to downright cold. My companion Gabrielle ordered the French onion soup and a Caesar salad. The soup came with a shriveled slice of Kraft Swiss cheese on top. The entire bowl of soup was ice cold. The lettuce in her salad was so old that lots of the leaves were brown. It was topped with a dry, chewy piece of chicken which was obviously microwaved rather than grilled. Finally, our cocktails were not right. I ordered a very dry Hendrix martini. Instead, I received a dirty martini reeking of olive juice. Gabrielle ordered a margarita, which the menu said was made from fresh lime juice - it wasn't. It was obviously made from a cheap mix. To her credit, Samantha, our server, did her best to correct all the misfires, but the bad food and drink made the experience less than stellar. Laurence Johnson I have to add to Laurence Johnson's review of the Turquoise Room Restaurant at La Posada. We were both so disappointed. Obviously, the chef is not the same chef that used to draw people from Phoenix just to eat there. In fact, that is one of the main reasons we had made the trip from Phoenix. Laurence described things very well. He did leave out the fact that the all the food that was supposed to be hot was so under heated that we had to send everything back before it was edible. I ordered a Caesar chicken salad. It came with salad leaves that were at least three or four days old. Some of them were slightly brown, with no dressing and with no chicken. I asked the server to take it back and add the add the chicken. It came back with a piece of chicken breast that had obviously been microwaved to the point that it was impossible to cut it with a knife. As you can see, all this was not up to the standard that this restaurant has created for itself. And the next time we come to La Posada, we are hoping that things will be different. We were both very disappointed and hope that they will take this to heart and restore the cuisine that we have had and loved many times before when we came to La Posada. Gabrielle Lawrence. Beautiful hotel! It's one of the few Mary Colter houses you can stay in. Yes, it's outdated, but that's part of the fun. Lovely Spanish architecture. Many famous historical people stayed here, like Amelia Erhart, Shirley Temple, Frank Sinatra, and Harry Truman. There is also a restaurant that serves southwestern breakfast. One star was lost for the Death themed art all over the hotel and the old toilet. But a must stay on route 66. read more

The rooms were exquisite. Not only did we love ours, but on the day of our check out we happened to get a glimpse of others as we carried our bags down the hall. Everything is so perfect in this hotel & you can see the thought and unique details that go into it all. 103 My husband and I have stayed at this hotel once a year for the last four years. We really like the charming ambiance of this restored historic Fred Harvey-era hotel. We love walking the beautifully landscaped grounds, or just looking out the window. The hotel has extensive common areas and sitting rooms decorated with comfortable vintage-style furniture and historic photos. It is easy to find a place to sit down, relax and chat or read. We always visit the two attached museums. One displays the world's largest single-loom Navajo rug. The other offers changing exhibits often focused on the history of Winslow. We have tried a wide variety of guest rooms here. Some are better than others, but they are all attractive and comfortable. The Turquoise Room restaurant is fantastic. It serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. We know Flagstaff residents who will drive an hour one-way on I-40 just to eat a meal at the Turquoise Room. The Turquoise Room has a small bar. You can sit in the bar, or take your drink into the lobby seating areas, or to your dining table. During this stay we also visited some of the shops and historic sites in Winslow. However, La Posada is the highlight of Winslow, which is an economically depressed town. Meteor Crater and its great museum is a half hour away. The Painted Desert Visitor Center is an hour away. It is still possible to take the train to and from La Posada. The train stops right outside the hotel, just like in the old Fred Harvey days. read more

This is an all-around terrific place to stay! Over time, I have developed as what I believe is my succinct method for scoring the merit of each accommodation we have visited. My criteria are as follows and the results are: 1) ease of access to and from public or private ground transportation [Score:4.0]; 2) convenient and safe parking [Score:5.0]; 3) access, accuracy and convenience of check in and check out [Score:5.0]; 4) atmosphere, ambience, public facilities, lounging areas and access to an office center and Wi-Fi access [Score:5.0]; 5) overall customer service - including but not limited to Hospitality, Support Services, Concierge knowledge, communication, attitude and demeanor of staff [Score:5.0]; 6) quality, cleanliness, value, convenience, amenities (i.e., ironing board, iron, TV, charging access, safe, phone, et.al.) and comfort of rooms, beds, room safe and/or valet services [Score:4.5]; Taking all the aforementioned categories in a scale of 1 star to 5 stars with 1 being the worst and 5 being the best a hotel can be! This hotel rates at 4.75. This is probably my highest assessment for an accommodation my wife and I have stayed at in my years of reviewing. Most positive points at this hotel are: the incredible quiet and solitude offered both inside and out. Especially with the vast array of gardens available to lounge, sip, meditate and relax. Most negative points found here are: its distance from major cities, yet this is what makes it both unique, tranquil, and relaxing. I call this, seductive quiet. This is a fun place to stay if you're looking for Kitschy and artistic. Hotel is an historic Harvey Hotel and restaurant with an attached museum. What the rooms lack in amenities (phone, microwave) they make up for in charm. The hotel is decorated in Hacienda style with adobe walls and Spanish tile throughout. The restaurant, the Turquoise Room, is a little pricey but the food is excellent. The interior of the hotel is decorated with local artwork and the pictures and stories of famous people who have stayed there. We try to come here at least once a year to escape the crazy world we live in and there is nothing like it. I could live here forever and ever. Took my teen niece and my dog. The niece wanted to stay in a haunted hotel on our road trip, so I obliged. While we didn't see anything supernatural we were stunned by the beauty and comfort of this place. So much to see inside and outside. We got the Bob Hope room. My niece said her favorite thing was the balcony. Mine was the enormous tub and the beautiful grounds. The room was extremely comfortable and she even said it was the most comfy bed she had ever stayed in! The lawn in the back near the railroad is expansive and was more than enough room for walking my dog. They even had a poop scooper and a can for clean up. The staff were very professional. I had take out dinner from the Turquoise Room and it was delicious. The bar tender who took my order could not have been nicer. The gift shop is really nice too. I highly recommend and I can't wait to go back, I am telling everyone about it! read more
