When I (the bailor) leave my clothes at a dry cleaner (the bailee), I receive the benefit of clean clothes, and the dry cleaner receives monetary compensation. I'm entrusting this store with custody of my items (worth exponentially more in total than the amount of the bill for services) that could potentially be lost, damaged, or not cleaned/hemmed sufficiently and/or properly. (For the record, none of my items have ever been lost or damaged or not cleaned/repaired to my specifications, but other recent reviewers have had a different experience. And it sounds like this store only offers redos, not refunds, in the event customers do not receive the service for which they paid). If the store had wanted to charge for two small sewing jobs up front (a small fraction of the pile I dropped off), that would have been fine. But I am left perturbed.

Stumbled upon Boerum Hill Dry Cleaners and felt like it was the one thanks to its high rating and proximity. Went last Thursday and the woman there was SO NICE which is so important to me. I was sad to leave my old tailor as we had built a good rapport over 10 years, but she really helped me feel comfortable as I tried on the dresses and she pinned them. I dropped off three dresses for simple shortened hemlines and one zipper fix. She told me to come back next Thursday (yesterday) and charged me $70. perfect. In the city I was paying 60$ for ONE HEMLINE so this was a dream. I pick up my dresses and must say they are absolutely perfect. The hems are impeccable and the man there was so nice! Cant recommend this place enough to people who live in the area or neighboring areas. They are definitely going to be my go-tos!

I was a loyal customer of San Toy for years and always thought they did an adequate enough job, although the store is dusty and my clothes would often return smelling musty as well. A couple weeks ago, I bought them a vintage Versace striped shirt that had some very minor ink bleeding in a few spots. I asked the man who generally works in the front if, in his professional opinion, this could be fixed and he said they would give it a try. When I came to pick it up a few days later, they had completely and utterly ruined the shirt. What had been some minor bleeding in a couple discrete spots was now all over the shirt rendering it, a completely irreplaceable item, totally unwearable. While he offered to "try again," I no longer trusted them and instead, found a higher end, designer-focussed dry cleaner to see if they could possibly fix what San Toy had done. As any good business should, they assessed the shirt and let me know that it was, unfortunately, unfixable and any further work would only make the bleeding worse. I then brought the shirt back to San Toy as I believed I should be compensated for them having ruined the item. I personally think they should have offered to pay for the entire cost of the shirt, but I would have accepted pretty much anything as a gesture of good will. I walked in to calmly speak about this with the man in the front and who, as I mentioned, I have brought clothes to for years. He immediately flew of the handle, yelling at me to bring it back to the store (I told him it was a vintage piece from The Real Real so there was no store), that there was no way he would pay me a dime, that I could pay HIM to try again (LOL!) and then ultimately started screaming repeatedly, "TAKE ME TO COURT I DON'T CARE!" I am flabbergasted not only by San Toy's hack dry cleaning but also by their lack of accountability and care for their customers. I've never had an issue with them: never a single delay, never a problem. Items were ready for pick up when they said they would, and some times even earlier. Their service has been impeccable. I still think that $3.50/shirt is a bit steep, but their prices are lower than other nearby cleaners (Goody Cleaners and HMS Cleaners). And something has to be said for a service that is consistently good year after year. I'm definitely a fan.
