I can't believe this place... I took a dress to have the hemline altered and it turns out they didn't even alter it at all. I picked it up my dress when they said it would be ready and it was in packaging. I tried on my dress for my event and thought it seemed long. When I took it back to be looked at, the alterationist was looking at the hemline in a confused way as though he'd never even worked on my dress, I noticed he wasn't pinning it to correct it. The guy at the front desk then said "we'll give you your money back" - admitting they never even did the job I had paid $70 for. I am so furious that this place would #1: act as though they had altered it and 2: take on a job they couldn't do. It was such a waste of my time going there twice, and now needing to get it done correctly elsewhere. Beware of this place for your alterations. read more

Always been happy with them with dry cleaning. Prices seem appropriate. Usually quick turnaround, and they are flexible if you need it sooner rather than later. 4 stars only because for sewing sometimes the prices seem a bit much-i.e. I just left 2 patches to be sewn onto a jacket and after leaving realized I was being charged $8/patch. I'm clearly going to opt to hand-sew my other jacket. In the shop, always helped by young guy, seems like the son, pleasant/friendly/efficient. Dad seems to be doing the tailoring in the background (lots of mannequins around for that purpose.) The weird pricing may be because the son manning the counter is just making up prices but not actually doing the work/considering what would be appropriate. You think drycleaner reviews are BORING!? Well, they are. But, outside of doctor/dentist reviews, quite helpful and necessary, and so I will forge on in the hopes that someone, somewhere reads this and thinks "FINALLY, I have found my drycleaner in Brooklyn." It will probably happen. When one relocates (me), they (me) need somewhere to have their shirts (ok, boyfriend's shirts) laundered and dresses pressed (those are mine!)...perhaps someone to tailor the occasional hem or stitch on a wayward button. Admission: I do not have a working iron or ironing board (it sits behind the closet). I cannot sew (I don't even have the correct stuff). I have never sewn a button (why!). I cannot iron. I do not stitch. I cannot iron on a patch. You see, I do not do these things myself. Not out of laziness, but out of honesty and realism. I suck at these tasks. And the fine folks at Mario's French Cleaners are quite good at them, and in a bustling metropolis such as this...there is stiff competition, and thus the prices are low. It just economically makes more sense for me to drop it off, pay for it, and be happy as opposed to doing it myself, cursing, picking myself with a pin, wasting precious time and ending up taking my clothes to them anyway...now with tiny blood stains. Mario's has won my heart for a few reasons: *Great location: right off 4th Ave/10th street, right by the train. Drop off by 9am, and they can have it done by the time you commute home! (after 5pm). Typically I don't request same day service, but they have it. *Very friendly service, the counter man (son) is always friendly and timely, there is very little language barrier, and he is sweet. *Things are always done on time, every time. I'm the duchess as of this writing and have dropped off countless boyfriend shirts...they are always done when promised. *Take credit cards without disapproving looks. The prices aren't basement cheap, but on par with the usual. *Great hours: Open early at 7am weekdays, and on weekends. Closed Sunday. -1 star for the little pins they poked my taffeta dress with to hang it. It left...well, little pin holes. Not a big deal, but with a heavier dress those holes do not work themselves out of taffeta. It's the only misstep so far though, and otherwise everything has been golden. Super friendly - clothes always very clean. They've done my shirts, pants, suits (even my wedding suit), along with a bunch of my wife's favorite clothes. Never had a single issue and been using them for a year now. I think they're a little pricey, but I'm from a small town where dry cleaning is dirt cheap - I've been to a few other cleaners in the area and their prices are actually on par. They do close right at 7, possibly a few minutes sooner on occasion - so if you think you might be a minute late- just forget it. I've arrived at 6:58 (by my clock) and the shop has been locked up - I double checked to confirm they were open till 7 on that day - but honestly that's not a deal breaker, they do great work, they can go home 5 minutes early if its slow. I've not used the tailoring, need to get some shirts tightened up...so we'll see if they can keep their 5 star review. I'm sure they'll do fine. read more

I can't comment on the cleanliness of the clothes entrusted to them, but they did make it so the sleeves of my jacket don't engulf my hands for a relatively reasonable quantity of green paper exchanged. So, they've got that going for them. Which is nice. read more

This is the best place around! They got out ***hot chili oil from my polyester pants (STOP AND THINK ABOUT HOW CRAZY THAT IS) and oil based marker from my boyfriend's cotton shirt (also VERY IMPRESSIVE). Oh not to mention a bleach stain from white pants that had turned the denim yellow. Yes, my boyfriend I are garbage people but these guys help us fool everyone by keeping us looking very very very clean :p read more

Quick, easy, and close to my house. Most of the time I'll drop stuff off on my way to the subway. The staff is really friendly and knows their repeat customers, so it's always something I'm not intimidated by. And they do same-day service (ready by 5) if you get your clothes in by 9.30. read more

I think I'd really give this place 2.5 stars, to be honest. To test out their alteration services I brought in two pairs of pants: one needed a refastening of its hem and the other a patch. While both jobs were done well, I feel like I was overcharged at $18 for both. Perhaps they threw in a dry cleaning with the alteration job? Since I was pleased with the result, I gave them a bigger job with taking in a dress I hadn't worn in ages. I put the dress on in their very small little changing room and reentered the main part of the store (there is no other place to stand). The tailor started pinching at the dress and pining it with safety pins (not straight pins). Once he was satisfied with the proportions I changed out of the dress and was given a ticket for a week later. (Seemed like a long time.) Went back a week later and they handed me the dress. In retrospect, I should've insisted that I try on the dress before I got home. Because when I got home and tried it on my arms were so pinched from the tiny armholes. My arms are by no means large so this was a little unnerving. I brought the dress back, with the receipt, the next day and explained that it was too small. Back into the tiny dressing room and under the scrutiny of the tailor. He pulled at the dress a bit and then said something to the clerk. Again I was told to come back in about a week. However, they were doing the second alteration without charge. Makes sense as they did not do the job correctly the first time. Picked up the dress later and made sure to try the dress on this time. Fits better, thankfully, but I wouldn't say perfectly. And while I briefly considered asking them to alter it further, I realized they probably still wouldn't get it right. Moral of the story? Good for small alteration jobs. According to others, decent for dry cleaning. Go somewhere else for actual tailoring. They get points, though, for trying to fix their mistake without trying to charge again. read more

This is not my closest option but I bring things here for minor alterations and repairs and I've been pleased. They recently reinforced all the seams on a vintage skirt for no extra charge. They've done a better job with mine and my boyfriend's dry cleaning than our other local place. I agree they may charge more but i think it's worth it. read more

This place is ridiculously expensive compared to other french cleaners in the neighborhood. My husband and I inadvertently dropped off a plethora of items once, and got stiffed with a near $200 bill. We've since been taking things to another french dry cleaners on 5th Ave which charges half as much. read more

I'm really not too picky when it comes to dry cleaners, here's all I need: 1) Close to my house/work 2) Fairly cheap, just don't rip me off 3) Be on time Well, this place hit all 3. It is across the street from my subway stop so I usually just drop off my clothes on the way to work, then pick them up on the way home. They've always had them done on-time, so I've got nothing to complain about. I've never been wow'd be any dry cleaner that I've ever been to, but I have been disappointed many times. So far, this has not let me down so I'll continue to go. read more

Really bad experience. I normally don't post negatives unless they warrant one, and this place did unfortunately. The young guy who works there had a very bad attitude and charged me $73for below-average alteration of my dress, even though I had to return a second time due to a mess up, and, they left my dress dirtier than when I brought it in. My wife got me going back to Mario's. It still has the advantage of being the closet place. I started laundering my own shirts before bringing them in. Basically, I'm paying the laundry price for shirts to have them pressed. Am I lazy? Maybe. But it's money well spent and I avoid the issues with having them not clean my clothes. The tailoring is awful. Do not get anything done there. They butchered a jacket. read more

I was a repeat customer for three years until I moved away. For basic dry cleaning, although they are a little pricey, they do a good job. Hell, I even gave them my wedding dress to clean and box up, which was both well done and significantly cheaper than most places. read more

I've used them for cleaning as well as alterations. They are a bit on the pricey side, hence I'm taking off one star. But they do a good job, they are very nice, and I've brought a fair number of things in for alteration with good results. read more

Mario's is great and reasonably priced! I especially love the tailoring for men. I bring suit pants and every day shirts missing a button, and the dad does a great job. He often gives me little deals and interprets what I want even if I can't explain it correctly. One drawback: The bitchy, condescending Park Slope richies who come into the shop with their dogs and belittle the owners. Today, this horrible woman came in and said she would never come here again because she had to have a silk blouse reweaved in Paris because of a stain Mario's could get out. The clerk was polite and asked to see the blouse or her ticket, but she didn't have it and left in a huff saying she was going to ruin them and made racist epithets under her breath. Ugh, I wish Mario's would move further into SouthSlope/Sunset where these aristocrats fear to tread. read more
