I was in area and wanted to try their donair flatbread. It was delicious. We also ordered a plate of poutine they don't use cheese curd but it was delicious. I will definitely come back if I visit Halifax again.

Fantastic place for an adult beverage. Lovely outdoor patio. And the service is outstanding! Our server today, Bailey, clearly LOVES her job. She is so friendly and helpful and simply a joy to be around. Happy Hour here is awesome too. Best deal in town.

So I can't judge Economy Shoe Shop on its food but I can say that it's a gorgeous historical building and an awesome pub and bar for social gatherings, dinners or drinks. It is a fairly noisy spot but I guess that's probably normal for bars. I was just in awe of the gorgeous stained glass, historical architecture and beautiful fixtures. They offers a couple marked vegan options on their menu as well, including the Beyond burger. And the waitress was very good at answering my questions regarding other items on the menu. They also make a mean Shirley Temple. :)

Went to the Economy Shoe Shop (RIP btw...it's closing soon) with several friends during my time in Halifax for dinner and drinks. It's a popular bar amongst Dal students as I was told. Since I didn't have dinner yet, I went for both dinner and drinks. The menu isn't too extensive, but does cover your typical bar food. I had the seafood chowder and the blackened chicken and mushroom alfredo. The portions are not big at all which sadly disappointed me, although the taste was decent. The chowder had a lot of seafood packed in the small bowl, which I liked. I also had the garrison raspberry wheat ale, which was the special the bar ran until 7pm that night. It was okay, nothing to write home about. Their selection is also nothing too drastic compared to other bars I've been to. Service was poor. It took 30 minutes for a server to finally take our order, and they proceeded to mess up one of our orders. Otherwise it was fine.

My sister and I had brunch at the Economy Shoe Shop today. It was a gorgeous day and we sat on the patio. My sister doesn't eat meat and had eggs, toast and wedge fries ($6). I had a burger and wedge fries. It was a good burger! The bun was perfect ... soft and not too doughy. It was a great deal for $10. I saw that nachos are $17 ... that's expensive! We sat in front of the original restaurant. Over the years, it has expanded and has taken over the two buildings to the right also. They are all interconnected. The space is really cool. If you went with a crowd, there are lots of nooks and crannies so you'd be able to find a private corner. We thought it was a cute spot and liked it

Can't really rate the food here but the bar tender was super nice! We came in while waiting for the comedy show next door, and thought to grab some drinks. We had beer previously, so we thought to get some cocktails. The bar tender was very nice and explained what was in each cocktail (most of it sounded too sweet, so we ended up getting something else). My partner got the old fashion, and the bar tender really took her time is crafting it, it was lovely. And I had their spicy cider (strongbow and fireball - tastes just like a cold apple cider with cinnamon).

Best nachos in town? You bet! What makes them so good? They give you a huge plate with multiple layers of nacho and cheese goodness! You can also add chicken or beef, if you so wish. Make sure you're either really hungry or plan on sharing them with a friend. Because when I say "huge plate" I mean it! The staff in the Shoe Shop are super friendly, attentive and witty! It is also on the top of my list for the most awesomely decorated bar/restaurant in Halifax. I just love the atmosphere here!

Dish: Calamari Overall: 4.8/5 Recommend: Yes I figured I had walked this road before. I know what "these places" are like. I know what happens when some place with a snappy name decides they want to try their hand at Calamari. Yup, I had this place all sized up until...I didn't. ... Value: 3/5 As good as the dish is, the price doesn't quite match the quantity here. "Handful" seems to be the standard unit of measurement when doling out a starter sized serving of Calamari; I guess I was just hoping they'd use a bigger hand. First timer: 5/5 Is this pro level Calamari? Not exactly, but it's good, really good, share with the table good. For that reason, it gets a perfect score for first timers. It will certainly allow you to "get your feet wet" and go in search of bigger and better squid. ... They kept it simple. Then they added a flare. Then they backed away gracefully and said, "Yup, this dish is finished. Let's move onto a cheese dip or something.".. You can read the full review at www.squidverse.com

Shop Shoe has been a staple DT for a long time. Going here after work when I was single with the girls on a Friday night was something that they always looked forward to. It is something about this place that never really turned my crank but I went along for the ride. Often trying to squeeze through the crowd to get to the bar was very frustrating. The overall design of the bar itself did not work for me. To cut up and to narrow maybe they did that to bring people closer together. Friday we went down for the nachos as doing this Yelp gig I have actually discovered many things about a place I lived for 41 years that I did not know about and yes they are good Nachos and always followed for a cold beer and that is about the extent of my time now spent in the Economy Shoe Shop sorry.

The Economy Shoe Shop is one of our cities more popular bars. It has a great atmosphere, but it's popularity can sometimes cause orders to get backed up and occasionally forgotten. I love the nachos at the Shoe Shop, and although the prices are a little expensive it can be worth it as a treat every once in a while. That being said, as good as the food can be, there have been times I've waited over twenty minutes for a diet coke! Call me crazy, but this seems like a bit too long. Even worse, I've had friends not receive their drink orders. I know it can get crowded, but this is a problem that should really be sorted out. Despite these problems, the Shoe Shop is a great place to meet up with friends. I've had a lot of great nights start here and am sure I will have more in the future! Hot Hint - Music Trivia at the Shoe Shop is a great chance to test how big of a music geek you are!

Darya's brunch buffet used to be one of the best dining deals in Halifax. It was a genuine standout…read morethat included a generous spread of high-quality Mediterranean dishes, all at a price point that made it feel like a treat without the guilt. We were regulars, and for good reason, sometimes going every week. ...but that's what makes the recent changes so disappointing. The buffet price has jumped from $35 to $42 per person (about a 20% increase) and yet somehow the offerings have gone in the opposite direction. The number of dishes on the buffet has been reduced, and most of the accompanying sauces have been quietly cut back or eliminated altogether. The toum, in particular, used to be a highlight (garlicky, creamy, and addictive) and its absence is genuinely felt. Now, two people are now easily spending $100+ for what is demonstrably less food than before. Since tax and tips are calculated as a percentage of overall spend, you end up paying quite a bit more per person than what you did a few months ago. The food that remains is still good. Darya's kitchen hasn't lost its touch, and the quality of the Mediterranean cooking is evident. And of course, the views are spectacular. But value is about the whole equation, and right now that equation doesn't balance. Paying more for less, especially when the "less" includes things you loved, is a hard sell. We probably won't be back again, at least for a long time . Here's hoping they reconsider and restore what made this special for everyone, locals as well as seasonal tourists, in the first place.

Best Meal of the Trip - Quality Over Quantity Done Right…read more Our brunch at Daryâ was hands-down the best meal of our trip so far. For $35, the brunch buffet is an absolute steal considering the quality of food and the overall experience. While the selection isn't massive, everything they offer is executed flawlessly--and honestly, you don't need 50 options when each dish is this good. The potato latkes were a standout--crispy, flavourful, and probably the best we've ever had. We also treated ourselves to the 12-for-$42 Mimosa Tree, and it was such a fun and tasty addition to the meal. The variety of flavours was impressive, with Cranberry Vanilla, Guava, and Pistachio Pear being the unexpected stars of the lineup. From the elegant atmosphere to the impeccable food and drinks, this place nails brunch. Highly recommend if you're in Halifax and want something elevated without being stuffy.
