The owner asked me to do my own imposition for booklet. This makes no sense. Either the owner is unprofessional or unwilling to pay some basic printing software. While I was adjusting my pages there, the owner started blasting out rock music and stopped couple minutes later, seemingly trying to kicking me out. Econoprint delivered in 5 minutes what 3 other copy places I tried the day prior did not. Paul worked with me and I am so grateful. Not only was he great with me but also with the two customers before me. Very patient. I was sent an email of a driver's license photo of someone who had died to paint a portrait from. Prior to Econoprint, one shop told me, "It is impossible." The second shop severely distorted the image horizontally and told me it was not distorted. The third place distorted the image color-wise and told me "That's the best you're gonna get." Paul got it better than I could have imagined within 5 minutes. Don't waste your time at Econoprint. What do you think of when you see the name "Econoprint"? Econo = economy, right? Wrong! I visited Econoprint with the impression that I could get a good, affordable deal on business cards. I had already done research on the price of cards so had an idea of the cost, but wanted some cards for my new business FAST, straight from the printer. After talking with Darwin, one of their representatives, we finalized an idea for the my business cards. After some negotiation, we decided the cost would be $35 for 100 cards - sort of more than I expected since I could have ordered that amount through Office Depot for $19.95, but that was cool, $35. Two days passed without hearing back from Econoprint on the design of my cards. After emailing and phoning, I finally received a call back on the 3rd day...bad customer service having to chase them down to find the status of my cards! After working with a graphics guy on the design, we finally got a working print. I was then informed that my cards would be ready in about a week. What? They do printing right there on the premises! Why so long? After my reaction, he then said he could print them in one day. Wow, I had to complain to them before receiving the FAST service I was expecting from an on-site print store? Not cool. When I finally got my cards, I was told the price was $70. What? I was then informed that the design cost was an extra $35. What? I was never told of a design cost and I was already paying more than I expected for a measly 100 cards. Darwin then explained that I was told this very clearly, and either I pay for the cards or he will not do business with me again because "I don't trust you." Wait, he doesn't trust me? After some heated discussion, I paid him $35 for those crappy cards. The design turned out poor and the cut of the cards made the print look lopsided. As a result, I ended up ordering a whole new set of business cards online (try www.uprinting.com), 500 cards for about the same price. Hmmmpphhh. read more

I love how helpful and knowledgeable Econoprint is! I know someone who works at an extremely high-end printing company in the area, and I asked who to go to if I couldn't afford his company's services. He referred me to Econoprint. Yesterday, I came in with my PDF file and ream of linen paper in hand, knowing exactly what I wanted to get - my wedding invites nicely offset-printed in black or gray. However, Paul at Econoprint looked at what I was working with and suggested that offset wouldn't be the best method for the results I wanted. I had very thin type and a high-resolution image, and their usual, economical method of making the plate wouldn't get the fine detail. They would need to make the offset plate with a more expensive, exact method and it would be an extra $60 charge. We did try one of my linen sheets with their black and white laser, and it actually came out very well, so I went with the laser print instead. Cheaper too, by a lot! I really appreciated that he looked at what I had and was eager to help me get the best results at the best price. They got the job done by the next day. They are fast and want to help you get your stuff in on time! That said, I had to dock off a star because they do things very casually. (As if it wasn't obvious by their storefront. It really does look like an antique furniture store!) At a more high-end printing company, everyone is awash in signed contracts and proofs, to make sure that everything is 100% approved before it goes to press. Not at Econoprint. They will print out a proof for you to make sure the file works on their computers, but that's it. Paul suggested I do a little reformatting to decrease on cutting costs, and we didn't print a proof of that version before it went to press. Big mistake. The layout got a little off-kilter and I realized it waaay after they had closed for the day and already printed my order. Paul was happy to to reprint it for me, and did the reprints and cutting while I waited. The cutting also wasn't perfect, but he kept redoing it until it was. They may not be perfect, but they REALLY want to help you. In a printer, this is invaluable. However, the reprinting was an extra cost because it was my mistake. Also, I was sure I told him 50 copies of the 2-page file, but they did 100. I'm actually not sure if they charged me for 100, but I did the calculations and it would have been $0.35 a copy if they did, which is equal or cheaper than any other printer around here anyway. (Their service, knowledge, and helpfulness is worth WAY more than the 7 cents a page you save by going to Kinko's!) He didn't get it in writing, which is something Econoprint is lackadaisical about. You'd have to ask for a formal quote to get anything in writing or itemized there. It turns out they had to feed my paper one at a time into the printer, and envisioning them hand-feeding 200 sheets tempered any offense about being possibly overcharged! I had hoped to have more paper remaining, but honestly, I'm somewhat relieved not to be left with half a ream of fancy paper after doing all my wedding stuff. If the paper had been very expensive, it would have been a different story, though. That said, if it is 100% their mistake, they will re-do it for free. I had my friend's wedding invites printed here in offset a year ago, and there was something wrong with the plate so there was a blotch on every one of the copies. The cost of making another plate was free, but they still used my paper to re-do it. It still only took them 2 days, which is a fast turnaround for offset. All in all, I would definitely recommend Econoprint for printing or copying pretty much anything. No matter how you slice it, they're 1000x better than Fedex Office (eff it, it's always gonna be Kinko's) and more affordable for everyday folks and small companies, than the higher end offset printers. Knowledge-wise, there's just no contest with Kinko's. They really want to help you out, and while Paul was helping me, other people came in and seemed to be long-term customers given by how friendly they were with him. They're just a little too casual about things. Definitely get things in writing when you work with them, give yourself a bit of extra time if it's complicated, and bring extra paper, just in case! Good rules to have when printing in general, though! They're also much better on the phone than email, and best in person. The ONLY reason to go to Kinko's is because they're 24 hours. That's it. If it's not 3am with a 7am deadline, there's no excuse. Go to Econoprint! read more

I spent the better part of a day searching L.A. for someone who carries A4 sized paper (European standard) for my daughter's visa application to Russia. I soon found out that nobody carries it in stock. I needed it today, so the other solution was to custom cut the paper. I tried Kelly Paper and they were going to charge me a minimum of $20 to cut roughly a dozen pieces of paper. Without going into how absurd that is (and I understand their policies are their policies), I will just continue with my review of Econoprint. I called Dave up at Econoprint and he told me to come by and they will take care of me. So, I get there and he quickly researches the exact measurements of A4 paper and within a couple minutes brings me a stack of 40 sheets of perfectly sized A4 paper. How much did it cost you ask? I'll never tell. But I will say this... NOBODY could even scratch the surface on the cost. It was well worth my time and energy to drive out to Pasadena (from east side of L.A.). Will definitely go back when I have one of my real printing jobs I need to do. Econoprint is EVERYTHING right about small businesses and these other corporate stores with their policies are everything WRONG about business. Thank you Econoprint for making my day!!! read more

I needed to order a handful of test prints of paper goods for our wedding, and hence called Econoprint to inquire. Paul's customer service was thorough and good- he gave us transparent, reasonable pricing unlike other places we called. Because we submitted the designs via email near closing time on Friday, the prints were ready by Monday- Paul even gave us a reminder call for pickup. I hate to do this when a business has good service, but the main reason for the 3 stars was because the printing quality was subpar unfortunately. The blue background color that my designer worked so hard on to nail came out with a greenish tiny (not the true color), and the detail on the calligraphy font was pixelated (even though it was a high quality file). I decided to verify if the colors and pixelation were true issues at a nearby Office Depot, in which the prints were true to the color seen on the digital files and there was no pixelation observed. Again, I'm sad to give an average review for a seemingly honest business, but the inaccurate prints... Can't reconcile that :T read more

I'm not sure what happened when Music went to Econoprint - I had a very different experience. All of their staff was very helpful and spent way more time on my invitations than I paid them for. They sent proofs back and forth over e-mail, let me come in and design "over-the-shoulder" to fine-tune things... all-in-all my wife and I ended up with beautiful invitations for our anniversary party at an unbeatable price. I'd have been happy to pay extra for the design work, but didn't have to. Also, they keep many different types of paper in stock so I was able to see what they would print on before ordering, and my order was done in a couple days. I called and gave clear details that I was leaving this evening and needed a small job (12 place mats laminated) done on the spot, if that was possible. Guy said sure, he'd warm up the machine and it'd take 15 minutes to do once "the boss" got back from lunch. Spent 15 minutes driving, ten minutes waiting for the "boss" on the phone, then he said they couldn't do it today. 45 minutes wasted on a day when I don't have it to waste.
