My wife Jan and I met Ed towards the end of 2018...He had done our next-door neighbors kitchen so it was very easy to see the quality work that he did. Our neighbor could not have spoken more highly of him. Upon meeting him we felt a sense of comfort. He listened to our needs and wants and was very patient. We didn't realize all of the things that go into designing and putting our plans from paper to construction. Hiring Ed was the easy part... now the challenge was to put it all together so we could create a kitchen and living space of our dreams. We were designing a kitchen island, replacing the countertops and backsplash in addition to refacing all of the cabinets. There was lots to think of. The kitchen island was the most challenging as we had certain space limitations and the size of it was going to be critical. Ed suggested that he make up a template, install it and see how it felt. After living with it for approximately a week we realized it was too big. Ed came back and resized it making it a little smaller. We lived with it for a while and he modified it one more time. It would've been very easy to just assume that we knew the proper size and go with it. Had Ed not suggested to cut it down each time we might have had an island that would have felt too big for the space. Good call Ed! Once we got the island figured out it was time to select the style, color and texture of the doors. Again this was quite a process. With Ed's guidance we completely did an about face and selected a cabinet color that we weren't even considering. Wow! Again, good call Ed! Through each phase of the kitchen remodel I always looked forward to coming home and seeing the progress. As an aside my wife and I developed a kinship with Ed as we felt we had made a new friend. He did all that he said he was going to do and more. Ed's associate David was great. His attention to detail was superb. Every once in a blue moon I will text Ed and say...you know what Ed? I love my kitchen :-) I would refer Ed again and again and again. The quality is evident in the materials and his workmanship. Thanks again Ed! It was a pleasure. Tyler and Jan C

Range hood and clean, elegant cabinet doors

We hated our kitchen cabinets from the time we bought our house. After 5 years, we saved enough money to get them refaced. From our first interaction via email, I liked Ed J. Roualdes. He presented as honest, forthright, and flexible. He informed us that he does one job at a time, so it might be a while before he was able to do our kitchen (it ended up being about 2 months). His bid came in lower for better materials than the big national kitchen refacing company. He also listed out each option as a separate budget line so we could decide whether to spend that money (new drawer boxes were a yes, new crown molding was a no). As choices were made, he communicated with me about how to buy a range hood, what cabinet doors we'd need, and how to choose door hardware. The job took about 3 days, with David providing quiet, professional assistance. Everything is hung straight and true. In an instance of true integrity, when Ed realized that the range hood went in faster than he'd anticipated, he didn't charge me for installing the pendant lights that were a late addition to the project. I expected to incur an additional cost for that-- what contractor ever charges you less than the bid? The project was a pleasure from start to finish and I'd definitely hire Ed again.

My extremely dated brown & yellow kitchen.

When I bought and moved into my first house I was a few weeks pregnant. I guess I really wanted a place for my baby to grow up with her own room and not in a dining area of our one bedroom apartment. Once I brought Perry Home from the hospital I think I realized just how hideous the interior of my house really was. We had already redone a bathroom but I couldn't stand the site of my yellow & brown kitchen. I turned to the app "Nextdoor "for recommendations in Marin. After about 8 interviews, my very last one in fact, happened to be Ed Roualdes. Not only was he the kindest of them all, he seemed the most professional. We started working up plans for my kitchen/dining area and before you know it dreams started becoming a reality. I think my favorite part about Ed is that he is a "yes" man. I came at Ed with new ideas all the time and throughout the entire renovation process I never heard the word No! Ed & Steve transformed my dream kitchen into a reality in just a few months! The quality of their work is flawless. They went above and beyond to ensure that everything was done with the future safety and well being of our 19 month old daughter. Things I never would have thought of! We've always heard that renovations can cause lots of fights and stress. Well I'm happy to report that my husband and I made it through just fine. Ed and his crew made everything pretty enjoyable and stress free from start to finish. They cleaned up everyday before leaving, which is a big thing for me. As happy as I am to have my beautiful kitchen back, I will say that we will all miss seeing Ed around here everyday. He really, truly has become a member of our family. * I've attached lots if pictures. I believe their work speaks for itself!

The Eikos studio, with Keri and Linda, is great at helping you figure out what materials fit the design you have in mind. When permits are involved the company ensures they are applied for and the work has no problem passing the inspections. I appreciate that they stick to their word and start work at the agreed time as well as following through to the end. Even after the walk through and final payment was collected, there was a minor plumbing issue that Chris and staff promptly came out to fix. They really stand by their work, which I find trustworthy. Because the extent of the dry rot wasn't known at the start, Kimo kept us informed every step of the way as work progressed. He clearly explained what was being discovered, what needed to be done, and how it would affect the scope and cost of the project. We always knew what to expect, which gave us tremendous confidence and peace of mind. Kimo and his team are always professional, friendly, honest, and completely trustworthy. It's rare to find a contractor who combines such high-quality workmanship with excellent communication and integrity. Whether the job is large or small, Ohana Construction approaches every project with the same dedication, attention to detail, and determination to do the job right. We have come to trust Kimo completely and would not hesitate to hire Ohana Construction again. We highly recommend Ohana Construction.

We can't believe this is our house! We've had a couple of friends hire him now to do their projects! Travis walked into our patched-together 50 year old house and understood our vision for opening up the floor plan and letting more light in. He worked within our budget to draw up a quote that met our vision, while also recommending items that could easily be isolated and saved for a later project date without having to re-do any of this initial work (like refacing the fireplace, re-doing the back patio). He was patient and helpful through the architect and permitting phase and had great recommendations for local cabinet, tile and plumbing stores that allowed us to get great quality finishes within our budget. Every sub-contractor that he brought in for specialized pieces like our master shower tile, shower glass, flooring and insulation were friendly and did absolutely top of the line work. He is also very clever at figuring out solutions to curveballs that our house threw and could take our crazy Pinterest pictures and piece them together to build custom solutions like the bench in the master shower. Overall our project included a major overhaul and upgrade to our electrical panel / electrical service to the street, major plumbing upgrades, new windows, a master bathroom addition and a complete interior paint/flooring refresh and remodel including a complete kitchen remodel (with removing load bearing walls to create an open concept) and hall bath remodel. Our house of 16 years is now a sturdy, safe home we can spend the next 50 years in - Travis didn't cut any corners and understood that this needs to be our dream home that will last "generations" as he put it. He's an honest guy with old fashioned values and you just won't find a better team to take on your project.

Today, with a different contractor we started the work of replacing the 2,500 SF driveway plus we are adding a patio and replacing our 50 foot public sidewalk and street curb for less than the total from Sonoma-Marin provided for just the driveway. I hired Mark for a medium-sized remodeling project (about 6 weeks) . He provided a low estimate…read morecompared to other bids. He then said that his workers were all covered by Worker's Comp, among other benefits, and that he paid a fair wage, and that he was the most ethical contractor in the industry, resulting in his workers' being highly productive and efficient leading to shorter project times. This sealed the deal for me. Furthermore, he claimed that the extra 30% or so that he was billing for his workers, was due of the worker's comp insurance, which only he provided to his workers (as opposed to the many unscrupulous other contractors that were around). As a property owner, you could be held liable for workers' injuries if the contractor did not carry worker's comp, and so, I agreed to Mark's deal. Within a few days, Mark had exceeded the estimate he had quoted, and was very difficult to get hold of. Furthermore, his workers would come and go at all times of the day (between 7:00 am and 8:00 pm) and I simply lost track of how many "cooks" were in the kitchen. As of last count, I noticed some 15+ names on the invoices, and some would appear for a couple of hours, and then disappear. But Mark would send me invoices claiming that his workers spent the entire day at the property - which was simply untrue. Mark would not be interested in even listening to me or investigating my grievances. Instead, he would brag that he did me a big favor by accepting my project, and that he typically only did multi-million dollar gigs, and not pittances like mine. Long story short, the project budget exceeded the estimate by more than 100%. Mark became extremely aggressive and feisty, and it was impossible to work or reason with him. I hired a Private Investigator to find out who this person really was -- like a Dr. Jekyl Mr. Hyde. Turns out that he had been sued for fraud, but more importantly, the whole worker's comp, fairness, ethical contractor, and so on, charade, was ALL ONE BIG LIE. It also appears that Mark may have left the Better Business Bureau due to bad reviews and that he may have hired a reputation defending company to increase his Yelp reviews to 5 stars by questionable tactics. Good Guy Builders license has been suspended for Worker's Comp violations and is under investigation. After my PI reported this, I found on the CSLB site: "License is under suspension for failure to comply with Workers Comp. A workers´ compensation certificate or exemption statement may have been received by the Board but not yet processed. Once the certificate or exemption statement is processed the suspension will be lifted retroactively to the effective date of the certificate or exemption statement. Ask the contractor for proof of worker's compensation and contact the insurance company to verify coverage." Here is the URL: https://www.cslb.ca.gov/OnlineServices/CheckLicenseII/LicenseDetail.aspx?LicNum=1016932 Please see image below. This is one of the greatest betrayals where I was charged an arm and a leg, and told a romantic story of workers being taken good care of, and so on, all the while, when Mark was simply pocketing the money that was supposed to cover his workers' safety and well being. Such greed, deception, and dishonesty, in my opinion, does not deserve a second chance. You decide whether you want to hire this company and deal with Mark. --- Addendum to Mr. Santosh R's note: 1. I am a real person. I was threatened by Mark that I would be sued if I posted anything negative on Yelp. 2. Yes, I did edit my posts before finally settling on one. Anyone in my position would do the same. 3. Finally, the facts remain unchanged. Good Guy Builder's license is under suspension and this may be independently verified on the CSLB website (see link). Likewise, the lawsuits against them may be independently verified. People like Santosh and Mark are the real culprits who boost their yelp ratings in a manner that skews it in their favor - by attacking anyone who posts negative reviews, and threatening those in dispute with defamation lawsuits. Do not believe anything Santosh or Mark say. The suspension is more than ample evidence that Good Guy Builders is a crooked business and not one that you should be patronizing.
