The ground level of this restaurant is very much like a pub. The upper level is more like a…read morerestaurant with a window wall overlooking the street. We were sent upstairs as the lower level was full. There is a stairway to the right of the front door. About half the upper level was occupied but we managed to get a table by the window. The waiter was pretty good and the food decent. Service was fast considering the amount of people in the building. Located across the river from the Castle, and down the street just at the split, you can't miss the bright yellow front. I believe this is a chain restaurant, and serves a variety of foods like burgers, salads and fish. If you want the pub atmosphere I recommend arriving early. If you don't need the ambiance, or arrive late, you will find good, basic comfort food in a quiet atmosphere upstairs.

We went here based on the recommendation of the barkeep at Sean's pub. It's decent pub food, but…read morehonestly of everything I ate, nothing really I couldn't get at any other pub. My fish chowder was also frankly too salty for me, but it was very lovely service so that does go a long way. Oh also, another dinner on my table disliked the potato mash, but apparently the steak sandwich was okay. I'd check out something else if was returning back to Athalone. Could I rank this lower than one star?? I would. For those of you that won't read a long review…read more.. here's the short story: service sucked, they gaslighted me when they got my order wrong, wildly inefficient in ordering made you pay BEFORE the meal and then also kicked us out after we told them their signage for their specials was wrong. Avoid, leave, run... don't go. So many better places to go, I had a large group and none of us will ever go back. First of all... sat down to order which took 20m. They got our drink order, then came back and took our food order, THEN came back to make us pay for our food individually which meant she had to get our food order AGAIN! Took 20m to just get our order. Then, they had 3 specials on the menu... none of which they had available. One special hand out of a burger they don't make, a hot wings challenge they don't do anymore but have signs for and a sign out front advertising a burger they don't have available. I ordered a chicken sandwich and it came out fried. Which was not on the menu. Then they told me the chef made it right and that everyone loves it fried so I should just eat it. When I asked for something different she said they would charge me for it. Another friend had her burger and it made her stomach upset for 3hrs afterwards. We leave, make a comment about the sign outside that said they don't have the specials they are advertising and they said they just don't have it "today". Which means you still don't freaking have it!?! So take the sign down it's false advertising. Then the server just said "it's fine. Bye." And closed the door in my wife's face. Soooooo... never going back. You shouldn't either. If I could give it negative stars I would.

Friendly staff and pretty good lunch. Better then average, and met our needs. We people watched all of the many bicycles going up and down the strand.

Once known ads Brendan's bar, now Charlie Browns - Students and unfriendly locals…read more The bar is well up to standard but the staff are the most ignorant I have ever met anywhere, it must be from dealing with students all the time. It is more or less a campus bar beside the Athlone College. IF YOU ARE YOUNG, you will meet other young mad people there, so it may be fun for you as you will be too drunk to notice the staff, in that case go there!

I visited this pub three times and have had three different experiences whilst there, the only…read moreconsistent things were the amazing drink prices (Pitcher of fosters, 3 pints, 8 euro / 2 shots of Jager and energy drink, 6 euro) and the flock of crazy young people throughout the pub. Luckily the cheap drink outweighs the company as the drunker I get, the less I care. Seeing as the pub is right by AIT I was already expecting it to mostly be serving young students, what I was not expecting was to see multiple people dancing on the tables (and bar staff blatantly ignoring this) on a Tuesday night followed by a significantly older gentleman creeping up beside them for a feel. Smoking area is lovely and big, they have a big screen showing sports, a jukebox which had a great selection of songs including metal/rock and two pool tables. They seem to have a number of DJs on various nights, when visiting on Wednesday night the music was Techno and very enjoyable. Overall, pretty laid back pub, would enjoy more if I was younger (I'm 25) and possibly really really drunk.
