What happens when Chicago foodies find themselves in Brazil, Indiana? They must go to Honeysuckle…read moreHill Bee-stro! Honeysuckle Hill is only open on Fridays and Saturdays and is a true gem. The restaurant is located amidst the cornfields of Indiana on the owner's family property, which of course, includes a bee farm. The dining room is very quaint and nicely appointed with an Indiana and bee theme. You can get a sneak peek of the desserts on the counter, so you know how much room to leave yourself! There are also a variety of goods for sale, like honey and homemade salad dressings that you know are on demand from customers! We were there on a busy night, but the restaurant didn't feel crowded and we were certainly not rushed at all. The food is all made from scratch from fresh local ingredients and is advertised as "just like your grandma used to make." I didn't have this kind of grandma, but WOW do I wish I did! The menu changes weekly and all entrees come with soup (I got tomato artichoke, which was outstanding) or salad (husband gave it two thumbs up, especially the homemade salad dressing) and fresh made bread with homemade honey butter. We really enjoyed the ordering system where you check off what you would like to order from a very pretty paper menu. We got the pot roast and chicken breasts and ordered different sides (you get to choose two) to try a bit of everything. The food was absolutely delicious across the board and our only problem was my hoarding of the creamy corn, which was the best I have ever eaten. Ever. Dessert was hard to choose, but we went with a slice of lemon eclair and honey graham ice cream, making the tough choice to forego the unbelievable looking s'mores cake on display. Truly a perfect country meal from start to finish. Our server was helpful and as pleasant as the restaurant she works in and suggested we take a walk around the property when we finished our meal. We got to chat with one of the owners who was carving wood out back and stroll down to their little slice of paradise lakefront. We can't wait to go back!

But it is always the best comfort food with super-friendly and caring service. Do not let the steep driveway deter you from going. It's easy access to get inside their wonderful dining room. It's relaxing. We also have enjoyed the "Heat and Eat" frozen dinners. These aren't cheap TV dinners. Definitely all food has elevated flavors.

And this heart always goes back to twist soft serve with rainbow sprinkles. This place truly has it all though! You can get mix-ins, flavors of the month, food, shakes...the list goes on. The vegan flavours are somewhat less interesting than the some of the dairy flavours, but still offers some variety: they always carry vegan vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, and grasshopper. You can also get any of the vegan flavours in your sundae/blizz/whatever, so this is actually a very good place if you can't or don't want to have dairy. Having tried all of the vegan flavours, I thought the chocolate was actually too cloyingly rich and sweet, but I really liked the others. The vegan ice cream is oat-based, which I prefer over the more common coconut. They also have a rotating selection of soup (with a few meat and a few vegetarian or vegan options available at any given time) in what I assume is a bid to stay relevant during the winter. The ice cream is still the main attraction for me at any time of year but the soup is worth getting if you want to make a meal of it, and it's nice to have something healthy to balance out the ice cream. I have tried the cream of asparagus and carrot ginger. The carrot ginger had shredded carrot in it instead of being a totally smooth puree, which I actually really liked. There is also some summery Americana food like hot dogs and mac and cheese, but I haven't tried any of that so I can't comment. The place has lots of seating inside and outside. It seems like they generally get very busy in the evenings but it's usually quieter during the day. The staff have been friendly in my experience. When I ordered a soup and sundae together, they offered to make the sundae and keep it in the fridge for me until I was ready to eat it, which was nice and thoughtful.
