This is a lovely quaint hotel. The rooms are charming and somewhat noise resistant because we rarely heard anything in the hallway and the estate was packed! The customer service was warm and friendly, especially Janelle. They were all very helpful to me and my family. There is also a VERY delicious restaurant connected to the hotel that has great food, cocktails and desserts! The only thing that was unfortunate was me and my family were having such a great time, we wanted to extend our stay but the rates were doubled and the front desk couldn't assist in lowering the rate. I didn't have high expectations for this place and yet was still seriously disappointed. Ants in the room. Bad window blinds that don't go all the way down or block out the light. Weird thing with the tv channel guide where the names of the channels are partly obscured, plus half the channels aren't available. Low or maybe broken lighting in the bathroom. Sliding shower doors won't stay closed. Temperature control at the sink is tricky. Message light on the phone won't turn off. Noisy kids next door after 11pm. Only one plastic cup in the room and it was on the bureau, not in the bathroom. Room door won't easily close behind me because of something weird happening with the lock. No wheelchair ramp at the front entrance (I assume there's one somewhere but I just carried my suitcase up the steps). Good things: Free parking. Grocery & restaurant next door. Mini fridge, microwave & robes in room. But overall this place is shabby and the front desk isn't staffed after 10pm. I've recently stayed in several Courtyard hotels in different cities and that product is much more consistent, even if it isn't always perfect. Part of why I chose this is because it's a national chain, but I was really frustrated with the whole experience, especially because I saw on the Choice app the night before I arrived that my room rate had been reduced from $770 to $525, but neither Choice's 800 number service rep nor the Edgar's staff would honor the discount for my reservation. The Edgar Hotel put a real damper on my Martha's Vineyard trip. read more

This hotel is definitely overpriced for what you get. Our room smelled like mildew, the carpet was dirty and stained, and the bottom of the bathtub was very dirty. We didnt use the shower because it looked so unsanitary. In the halls of the hotel, the walls and carpet were dirty, and the hotel in general had an unpleasant smell. We were only staying one night, or we would have left. One last thing, we felt like the website portrays a clean and recently remodeled hotel. Our room had new furniture, but the bathtub was extremely old and looked nothing like the pictures. Just felt dirty overall. The price for what you get is ridiculous. Would not recommend. read more

DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL. Booked this place for an event, that due to the covid surge, was canceled. I called them with just under a month's notice to let them know I could not make it, and I would like to reschedule for a later time. They told me because my reservation was booked on a 3rd party website, it was out of their hands (the website was the one you are directed to when you book online directly from The Edgar). I contacted the 3rd party website, which had me send proof of the canceled event. After a few days, the website informs me that the hotel is fighting the refund. It's not a B and B but that's OK,that's not what we were looking for! The Clarion is a clean and decent hotel! The folks at the front desk were very helpful and courteous! A typical breakfast bar was made more interesting with the addition of a pancake making machine! Location,location,location! It's just a ten minute walk to the Port Hunter Restaurant and another five will take you to the harbor past dozens of other stores and eateries! There's a small Stop N Shop next door and just a little further is Bad Martha's if you would like to try a local brew! It's probably due to local zoning but the Clarion sign is set back from the road and can be a little hard to see! Great help and a really good location! We DO NOT RECOMMEND this hotel. We were charged over $700 for 1 night in October of this year. This is not during high season, but we didn't have many options for 1 night on the island. We were optimistic that this is a special property and it would be worth it. That was NOT the case. It's your average, old, run-of-the-mill hotel but feels like a motel. There are no good amenities in the room, the soap is the size of a business card, very small cheap lotion, etc. The sheets and towels are old and thin. For $700 you would think there would be complimentary bottled waters, but there are not. They don't even have a vending machine to buy bottled waters or other drinks. We had to walk a block or two late at night to the nearest store attached to a gas station to get water. We contacted the manager by phone and email and never heard a response back from him. DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL. read more

We have stayed here at The Clarion and had family members stay here, as well. We know The Clarion. We have also eaten at their restaurant, The Grill. There's a lot to like about The Clarion but it is not a unique, charming or quaint destination, by any means. It's your standard motel as far as character goes, down to the furnishings, linens and views of the parking lot. There's not any sense of a personal touch. But it can also be cheaper than the swankier little inns nearby, which is a good call. It's clean, located just outside of town and has parking, which is key. You can (and should) walk into downtown Edgartown, which will take you about ten minutes. You can also walk to Sharky's, a popular island watering hole with a Mexican themed menu. And Stop N Shop is literally just out the front door. If you need anything from Stop N Shop, you can get there in about 30 seconds. The Clarion is a basic, impersonal place, and in many ways you could be in Anywhere, USA, but you're not. Fifteen minutes or more brings you down to North Water Street with its gorgeous homes. A bit further and you're at the Edgartown Lighthouse or taking the ferry to Chappy. If you have bikes, or decide to rent them, you're near one of the prettiest bike trails imaginable- a stunning, flat and perfect ride to Oak Bluffs by way of State Beach. Several bike rental shops right nearby. It's a clean and quiet place to put up the family overflow or a wedding party. We like The Clarion, even though it's not one of those gorgeous B and Bs with home made muffins, chocolates on the pillow and a wine tasting hour. Sometimes you just need a basic home away from home like The Clarion. read more

Crabtree and Evelyn apothocaries, really confy soft pillows, clean rooms and a great location made the Clarion perfect for our 2 night reunion. We walked to Sharky's Cantina, downtown and shops. We have stayed at the Clarion in recent years including this summer. We originally chose the inn because it was one of the few places we could find that would let us store expensive road bikes inside, albeit in the basement. Most Bed and Breakfasts make you keep your bike outside. The Clarion is very clean, offers a free serve-yourself breakfast, has reasonably priced rooms with new flat screen TVs, and is only several blocks from downtown Edgartown. There is also a very good restaurant in the hotel open for dinner. Parking is also easy and hassle-free. I recommend this hotel. read more

If I could give it 0 stars I would. I was content to just keep my terrible experience to myself. Then, I opened my credit card statement to find that I was charged for something that I didn't use. To start, the staff at the front desk, when checking in, was rude and completely unhelpful. We had reserved two rooms at the same time, but were put at opposite ends of the hall. We were forced to give a credit card, even though the rooms were already paid for. This was, as explained to us, for "incidentals". When we said we didn't want to put a credit card on file, we were told that it was "company policy" and had no choice (what could we do, we were already on the island). We had to sign a statement saying that we would be charged $250 if we brought a bicycle in the room and $250 if we smoked in the room (the entire hotel was SUPPOSED to be smoke-free). The smoking statement will be relevant in a minute. The room was nice. Spacious and clean. I will give them that. However, not long after we got settled, we could smell cigarette smoke. We couldn't find the source. It wasn't coming from outside and it wasn't in the hall. The only thing we could come up with was that someone was smoking in an adjoining room and blowing the smoke into the bathroom vent. We were told that we couldn't move rooms because the hotel was almost full. No attempts were made to help us get another room other than we were told there "was nothing they could do". One of the night staff, who was very nice and sympathetic, offered to give us the hotels "fabreeze" spray and try to mask the smell. Needless to say, it didn't work. Now, 1 month later, I check my credit card statement and there's a $4.77 charge for a "mandatory safe usage fee". We were told that if we used the safe, we would be charged a fee. But, if we didn't use it, we would not be charged. The overall experience was terrible. I can see why Martha's Vineyard doesn't allow "chain" businesses. Don't stay at the Clarion Inn on Martha's Vineyard. Ever! read more

My fault for not leaving after the first night but I was promised the plumber was on site and fixing the issues. I wrote a letter to the GM expressing my concerns and didn't even get a response! A Clarion, exactly like all the other clarions, with a quaint facade and friendly front desk folks. I know 3 stars is a cop out, but this is just one of those places you stay at without having a second thought about it. The rooms are clean and tidy, albeit a bit spartan in the furnishings department. The shower is one of those big plastic things they drop in an old tub to make it look new. This is a hotel appears to be an older hotel. There is no elevator to the second level, although the receptionist at the front said the new owners are planning on adding one. I was offered a room on the first floor, but I declined, so they are very willing to accommodate their customers. My room was clean and spacious and bright. Plenty of room to stretch out to read a book at night in a comfy chair and lots of room to spread my work stuff out on the desk and other tables. The room has a microwave and fridge as well as a coffee maker. The hotel is right next door to a Stop and Shop, so I could load my fridge with water. The bathroom had a makeup mirror, which I always appreciate, and a hair dryer. The cable had a good amount of channels to choose from. The bed was a little too firm for me, but I wasn't uncomfortable, and the pillows are fluffy. The breakfast is free, which I think is a great option. It is a standard continental breakfast with a pancake machine, cold boiled eggs and the standard muffins, toast, cereal, etc. you won't go hungry. The staff is right on top of keeping the coffee pot hot and full and the breakfast well stocked. Another word about the staff. -- they friendly and helpful. The hotel is in walking distance to a couple of restaurants. I think that the hotel in general could stand some updating, but it is a comfortable hotel and I would recommend it if you are looking for a place to stay. read more

Edgar Hotel is alright, the room I stayed in was clean, spacious, and nice, and the front staff was alright. The refridgerator was broken, it was only slightly cold and yet it was on the highest setting. Even if it was just turned on, it was not getting any colder after a couple hours and the thermostat showed like 60 degrees (fridges should be 45 or less), and was NOT SAFE to put food into. The front desk girl seemed annoyed that I asked for something to be done about the fridge...but they shouldn't advertise that the room has a fridge if it doesn't work. They exchanged the fridge for one from a different room which was the same exact cheap model and which also did not get cold. So we ended up having to fill the fridge with bags of ice just to keep our food from going bad. In the morning, the fridge was still not working so it's a good thing we were able to get the ice. The same thing happened with the coffeemaker, the first one was broken, they brought in another identical one which was also broken, so we just gave up on that. The room was a decent price, much cheaper than other hotels in the area, and it was a nice room, nice bed and bathroom etc. I am not complaining about the value of the hotel or the niceness of it. My problem is that it is very dangerous to have a fridge in the room that does not work, there are many people who would put their food into it and not notice that it's not cold enough, and then get food poisoning from the bad food. That is not ok that the hotel knowingly has cheap nonworking fridges in the rooms which are improperly storing food. It's obvious that they bought cheap appliances to save money but misleading people about something to do with food safety is negligent, and the hotel should deal with this issue before they get a lawsuit from someone. read more

The hotel is old, but was clean. The continental breakfast was an added bonus. The only drawback was that I was not told that the hotel was in the middle of major renovations when making my reservation. As such, I was not aware that there would be noise throughout the weekend. This was a major problem, especially if you are in need of sleep on a Saturday morning. I asked to be moved as far away from the noise as possible, and the receptionist was accommodating. I recommend that you inquire if renovations are still ongoing. Other than that, I would return - once the renovations are completed! read more

one of our technicians stayed and was very disappointed. after a really tough day all he wanted was quiet room and a comfortable bed. The bed was awful, paper thin walls. In the morning tried to make coffee and the coffee pot had mold in it. Carpets were gross and his white sock turned grey after walking on the carpet. Stayed for the Taste of the Vineyard, hotel was great! Right on Main Street, next door to Stop & Shop supermarket . Very convenient if you don't want to eat out all the time. Easy walk to most sites in Edgartown, right on the bus route to get anywhere on the island. Ask the bus driver for a day pass then you can jump on and off and go anywhere on the island Hotel is the cleanest hotel on the island! Comfortable and lowest price I found on the island. Be aware Martha's Vineyard is a high demand resort area, pricey to stay and go anywhere on the island. Hotels on the island do not have shuttles, only taxi service- expensive $25 for a couple. Stayed in the off season. Decent hotel for a great price. Great room size. We stayed in a queen with a sofa bed. There was a fridge and microwave which was convenient. The staff was friendly and helpful. The only thing I would suggest is to stay on the second floor, as the first floor rooms were previously smoking rooms. Though they are no longer smoking, the smell is strong and was incredibly off-putting for a nonsmoker. The upstairs rooms have higher ceilings and no smoke smell! read more

Had bit of sticker shock of the prices of hotels on Martha's Vineyard. Clarion Inn was the best price on the island. Clean comfortable room great bed slept like a baby. Easy walking distance to Edgartown. The restaurant "The Grill" had a great special 2 for 1 Thursday night, not sure if its all the time but ask. Great food and 2 for 1 best price. Clarion Inn offers a continental breakfast, kids loved the pancake machine. No hotel has a shuttle recommend getting bus pass for the time your on island. I love the location of this small boutique type hotel! A short walk to center of Edgartown and the harbor. Lovely and easy walk. Across the street there are several restaurants that add to convenience of this site. The room was clean and the bed very comfortable. The size of the facility and the way it is decorated makes your stay even more cozy and comfortable. The staff and management could not have been more welcoming and helpful! Nothing was an issue. Incredibly average motel. Wanted to charge us $75 to check in about 2 hours early. Staff at front desk was super slow (and weird) during check in, and not very helpful to us or others.
