Clean and convenient location Although the checkin process was ok, the initial front desk person (younger female) was not very attentive. We arrived early so were not able to get into the room (understandably). Upon our return to get keys, Margie was helpful and provided information for things to do in the area. We have stayed at the Vineyard Square Hotel for the past 5 years. The front desk staff, especially Evelyn and Sammi, are so friendly and accommodating. We are always greeted with a smile and they know what we need before we ask. The breakfast, which is included, is amazing! The location is perfect to walk around town to shops and restaurants. The rocking chairs on the front porch help us to relax and people watch any time of day. We will continue to stay here every year for as long as we are able to come to the Vineyard. This was my 2nd stay at VSHS. 1st stay was 5 stars. Only 3 stars this time. Our room was unfortunately above the kitchen. It sounded like the kitchen was tossing empty 5 gal buckets out the door which was directly below our room. We complained to a white woman with long dark hair who did nothing and never got back to us as to whether or not the noise got better. She never told us her name. Shia, Evelyn and Marjorie were lovely hosts and Beris rocked! The empty pails should be placed outside the kitchen door, not tossed every 45 mins. The woman we complained to should have addressed the noise and gotten back to us. Follow through. Make the guest feel heard. read more

Disclaimer: we visited in the off-season. We received an email a few days before arrival that the hotel was undergoing repairs to the front porch and that we would need to use the back entrance of the hotel. This made us a little nervous but we were past the window of penalty free cancellation. The day before arrival we received a message from the front desk staff which was nice asking when we would be arriving so that they would be on site and that the room would be ready. The room was already ready before we arrived which was great especially coming from the ferry. Anywho, we arrived at the hotel. The front of the hotel was taped-off as expected and we were instructed on how to get to the back of the hotel. We walked around to the back entrance and we're a little put off. Not only was the hotel going through exterior repairs, there were interior renovations going on as well. After speaking with someone from the hotel staff, we learned that the hotel had a pipe freeze a couple of months before and there were still ongoing repairs happening. Walking through, the hotel appeared to be in disarray. Clearly things were out of place and disheveled due to the repairs. We checked into our room which was on the 4th floor so we had a few flights to go up. My mistake for not reading the fine print about the elevator. The room was okay. The bed was a little soft. Pillows were awful. The sinks were oddly low- maybe handicap accessible but no complaints otherwise. It had a tv with cable. Other notable things: The ice machine was not working The vending machine was unplugged The restaurant was closed for the season The gallery was closed The salon was closed The bikes were not available The patio was unavailable as noted before Again, I understand that we were there in the off-season but I believe our experience was attributed to the renovations more than it being off season and I wish the hotel would have disclosed that on their website or simply not have been open until they could properly accommodate. I do believe that the hotel is really nice when fully functioning. Sammie the front desk staff was very nice and pleasant to work with. She was welcoming, very responsive, and proactive. My sister was locked out of her room and Sammie was there instantly, after hours. read more

This hotel is good. Couple of complaints is that we did not have a working refrigerator or freezer for our room. It was never installed. The in room ac was noisy. There was no telephone in room. The only ice machine on the first floor was not working as well. Parking is not very well maintained in a shared lot. We felt as though we couldn't leave because someone would park in our signed spot from the hotel. So for the price of the room, and the couple of complaints that I've stated, the price seemed to be over priced. Now, it's only the first week of June. It wasn't busy at all, and I can assume that the prices will rise throughout the summer. Over all, the service was excellent, great hospitality, first time there, and the room was beautiful. If the complaint were fixed either before or on arrival, I would give it 5 stars. But we will try again soon. read more

Covid policy has a continental breakfast delivered outside your door in the morning. Perfect boutique waterside escape! I spent the weekend at Vineyard Square-- and wow, what an idyllic experience! I had high expectations of both the town and the hotel itself, and all were exceeded. The hotel: We stayed in a king room in the hotel, and we had absolutely everything we needed. Immediately I fell in love with the soap, which comes in dispensers (so much better for the environment!) and which smells/felt like vacation. If there has been a gift shop, I would have purchased 5-10 bottles of the stuff to take home. Through the windows in our room we could see the water, and there is pretty much nothing better than that! We also enjoyed all of the amenities, including being able to borrow beach chairs, towels, and bikes. It was so stress free to have everything we needed for recreation, and to be able to drop sandy damp towels off without a care in the world after a couple hours on the beach. The staff were friendly and helpful, and we felt very taken care of. Finally, let's talk about breakfast. WOW. I knew breakfast was included, but I expected something fairly ordinary (eggs, bacon, maybe a few bagels and muffins). What I found was a beautiful brunch where each thing tasted better than the last. The highlights for me included fresh brewed coffee from Dave's (a Rhode Island classic), the ham and cheese croissants, and the Mexican street corn breakfast toast. Okay, this toast-- I will be dreaming about it for weeks. I've never had anything just like it. It was fresh and savory and just the right hint of spice. I've attached a photo, but honestly you just have to try it. I'd love a postcard with this recipe to take with me as a souvenir! The town/location: We were right in the middle of everything-- directly off of the Main Street with tons of shopping and food, and a block off of the harbor with water views. We were also a very easy walk from beautiful Lighthouse Beach, which felt really calm and secluded, even for being a town beach! We enjoyed a spectacular dinner at a restaurant directly behind the hotel called Detante. Next time I'd love to take advantage of all the great shopping in town-- but the weather was way too nice to stay indoors this weekend! All in all, I loved my stay, and I can't wait to go back. Seriously, you will feel like you are escaping into a delicious beach read. Try it, and don't forget to try the Mexican corn toast!!! read more

My family loved our stay at Vineyard Square. The rooms are clean, decorated nicely and the beds are very comfy too. The staff was also kind and helpful. Excellent location, reserved parking just a couple of minutes away included in the price. Easy drop off in front loading zone. Staff was very pleasant and welcoming. Breakfast was way better than anticipated. The only downside is that there is no elevator, we were on the fourth floor! However, there is a small lift to the second floor. The rooms were small but very very clean. Would have liked the A/C split to be on before we got there! I would recommend a stay here as the positives far outweigh the very few negatives. read more

The Vineyard Square Hotel and Suites formally the Colonial Inn is one of the larger Inn's at Edgartown with many well kept rooms and suites. Single King rooms can be small but are perfect for the weekend getaway on the island. I was able to stay in a suite a few times last summer and they are great. The suites are named after different parts of the island and I had the Menemsha suite twice. The one bedroom suite has a super soft King bed, nice size bath and the separate living room area with fireplace, deck, plasma TV and a music system. You may be able to work a weekend rate on the rooms but generally the suites rates do not change during the summer season. The staff there are very friendly and professional. Visitors will not be disappointed with the quality of the Colonial Inn at Edgartown. read more

We had a wonderful experience staying at the Vineyard Square Hotel for a long weekend. The location is perfect with the beach, restaurants and shops within walking distance. The staff was so welcoming and went above and beyond to meet our needs. Our room was very comfortable, especially our king bed! The atmosphere is very relaxing with great spaces for gathering with family and friends. Our group, the Square Wheelers, was there to participate in the annual MS fundraising bike ride. Vineyard Square has been a sponsor of our group for many years, and we really appreciated the many ways the staff supported us which included delicious breakfast buffets and a pizza celebration dinner. Traveled with family Disliked: Staff & service The rooms are specified at least 500sf on expedia, and it turned the 2 queen bed room are at most 250sf, about half of the size specified. We were given the room right by the stairs on the second floor -- the busies foot traffic room. We asked for moving to another same type room or honor the 500 sf spec by upgrading us to a bigger room. The staff flatly lied that it was "full". Super friendly manager. She made the stay great. We were traveling for work and with a 1 year old. They were very accommodating, even heating up his food in their microwave several times over 3 days and storing his stroller in the meeting room. They did have a pack n play as well. The breakfast was varied and wonderful and fresh. Appreciated the local Chillmark Coffee. We had a one bedroom suite on the second floor. Very comfortable beds and great water pressure in the shower. Parking 2 blocks away was easy to get to and you can walk to so much right from the hotel. It would have been a pain with no elevator if we were on a higher floor. Beautiful lobby and nice art.
